I can imagine it's also great for renting to big parties - there's an area downstairs that seems like a pretty cool little venue to rent out. Had my first visit yesterday. Went for Sunday brunch. The place looks really nice. Classic black and white tile. There's a patio and a bar and walls open up to the outside. If you order off of certain parts of the brunch menu, you get either a free juice or a free cocktail! Super deal! You could select from 4 different cocktails. It was a nice variety and they all looked delicious. The average price of the brunch was $20 and the cocktails are $14.50 so a great deal! I ordered the Potato Waffle Benny, a waffle made from hash browns with poached eggs and smoked salmon. It was meh. The hash browns were overcooked so it killed the whole dish. My free cocktail was the rose sangria. SO good! These may be free cocktails, folks, but they don't skimp on the booze as a result! Although my benny wasn't great, we ordered the skillet roasted Mac + Cheese and it was BOMB! It totally made up for my lackluster benny. Our service was great here. The restaurant is pretty big and has lots of tables and seating. We went in on Monday morning with reservations and it was empty - about 3 other tables. Despite this, the service was terrible. Our server was inattentive and slow. The coffee was never refilled. If we needed something, we had to wait until we saw him reappear after 10-15 minutes. He had put in our order incorrectly, which normally is not a problem, but here it took way too long. Although the service was not great, the food was really good! They give complimentary biscuits - absolutely amazing. They were so soft, buttery, and fluffy. I loved that they had the option of half orders for entrees. This made it easier to try more things off the menu. - chicken sausage benedict (7/10) + served with potatoes (10/10) - goat cheese omelette (9/10) - burrata toast (10/10) - toffee pancakes (12/10) Overall, ambiance and food are great. I stopped by the Smith for an impromptu outdoor lunch with two girlfriends. We were #blessed with perfect outdoor dining weather, which set the mood for a great meal. Our server was the best - so attentive, accommodating and would hop into our conversations when she stopped by to check on us. The entire menu sounded enticing. However, I had just rolled off of a 3-day conference where I had gorged myself, so I ordered the kale + quinoa salad with grilled shrimp. It did not disappoint. The salad was filling and the shrimp were grilled to perfection (there's nothing worse than overcooked shrimp). I also sampled the mussels and fries ordered by a friend... yum. I ventured inside the restaurant to use the ladies' room and realized that the restaurant is huge! In addition to plenty of indoor seating on the main floor, there is also seating downstairs in what look to be private dining rooms. I bet this would be a great spot to host a private event. The vibe inside was modern, clean and trendy. Sadly I didn't sample the cocktail menu, but that provides reason to make a return trip next time I'm in Chicago. read more

I cannot speak to the ambiance or service since I ordered takeout. I will mention that if you order it through Uber Eats, it told me it would be 20 minutes and took 1 hour and 20 minutes. So I definitely do not recommend ordering on Uber Eats. As for the food, I got the kids items because it was a lot cheaper. The kids Mac n cheese was $15 and the flatiron steak was $19 (included broccoli and fries). Because of the long delivery, the fries were awful and soggy. I would have never ordered fries for delivery if I knew it would take an hour longer than they said. The steak and broccoli were good and the only thing I really liked. I didn't like the Mac n cheese. I am not 100% sure what cheeses they used but it might have had too much gruyere, because it tasted funky. read more

Got to try a bunch at team dinner! Great service and super cute place. For apps, the max and cheese is super cheesy and yummy. The Brussel sprouts were also really good. The salmon tartare was better than expected and not too spicy. The burrata was just average. But there's table bread! The gnocchi is super heavy, but really creamy and good. We decided to come here with our friend while she was visiting for a few days. We came on a Monday at around noon for brunch since we all had the day off. We did have reservations, but it wasn't necessary since the restaurant was basically empty. I like that you have the option to order half servings of everything, and that's what we did for each of the plates except the omelet and pancakes. I have nothing bad to say about the food. In fact, that was the best part of the trip. The omelet had just the right amount of goat cheese to not be overpowering, the chicken sausage was the savory and flavorful, and the pancakes with toffee drizzle and maple butter was perfectly delicious. One of the big standouts was also the complimentary biscuits, side potatoes, and burratta. The biscuits were served hot and fluffy, the potatoes crispy and coated in a perfect spice blend, and the burratta's sundried tomatoes were a great standout. With all that said, I can't give a perfect score because even though there were only like 3 or 4 tables being used, service was pretty slow. It took quite some time after we were seated and decided what to get for someone to finally come to our table. Also, my coffee remained pretty much empty throughout the meal until we were almost about to leave. I thought this place was so good!!!! I normally don't love "American" restaurants because the menus normally bore me, but this one did not!!! First off, my entree Honey Crisp Apple salad was by FAR one of the best salads I have ever had. The dressing on it was light, but still very flavorful. I loved the big flakes of cheese too. I added salmon and it was a generous portion size, I ended up having leftovers. We started with the potato chips with blue cheese fondue and they were SO GOOD. One of my favorite appetizers I've ever had. We also got the calamari, but would order the potato chips over the calamari when I go back. The atmosphere felt like your typical fancy restaurant - dim lighting and more on the quiet side. It wasn't sure upbeat, but I liked that about my experience. Great place to bring family or a date. During a one day trip to Chicago I booked a reservation through Resy for The Smith Restaurant. At first there were quite a bit of availability and openings but the day of the restaurant booked up quickly. And it was a Tuesday night! The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a typical Chicago downtown restaurant feel. When we got there the staff greeted us in status at our table right away. Our server was super friendly and attentive. I ordered the bone-in ribeye. The meat was tender. If I was at home I would have not the meat off the bone, but had to be civilized in public. The Smith Redemption! Our experience from The Smith DC's Brunch to tonight's dinner in Chicago was a full 180. The restaurant shares interior finish aesthetics across both restaurants featuring black and white tile, frosted globe lights, leather booths, etc. The Chicago location overall was a lot bigger offerings indoor dining, a lounge/bar that opens to outside, patio, and what looked to be a downstairs private event space. My husband and I sat in a more secluded area which we enjoyed. The tables are always given still and sparkling water which was such a nice touch! The cocktail menu has a tasty twist on classics (example being my basil lemon drop). Our appetizer was the perfect portion for two to share. The burger was cooked perfectly medium and came with enough fries to share! The pasta was also portioned well and came with sesame seeds on top for a surprising yet pleasant crunch. We ended the night with a birthday dessert, the sticky toffee cake, which was a sweet, warm cake paired with ice cream; the ideal pairing. We both agreed it was worth the splurge to add dessert on! Our waitress was incredibly sweet, paced our meal well, and made sure we were always tended to: asking if we needed anything more/how our food was/refilling our water. Highly recommend ordering the grilled chicken sandwich - basil aioli and a tomato jam. It was by far the best sandwich I have ever had! The order came with fries, reminded me of McDonald thin cut fries but more crispier. We also had the avacado toast egg, that was prepared cooked instead of poached. This Thanksgiving we decided to stay out of the kitchen and let the experts cook for us. We went to this brasserie in the city which had a special menu. They tried to seat us downstairs but (un)fortunately the elevator was not working and one of our guests had a mobility problem so they seated us upstairs. We shared some of the chips with a blue cheese sauce, which was delicious and the blistered shishito peppers. There was something for all of us (even the picky ones). I selected the kale salad which was diced very thin, and it was green and aromatic and delicious. I could eat this salad every day! The short rib was melt-in-your-mouth tender and with a rich and flavorful gravy. It was outstanding. I had a bread pudding for dessert -- it could have been moister. This was a very nice meal -- our party was pleased with their choices (a lot of short ribs, salmon, turkey pot pie) -- and the service was very friendly and professional. I think the short rib is a mainstay on the menu -- I would definitely come back and order it again. Lots of other menu items looked very promising. Came here with a friend who was visiting town and we had a feast. Started with oysters from Wellfleet (my favorite) and ended with the sticky toffee dessert. Food was fantastic. Get the grits! I will definitely go back for brunch and want to also go back to try their dinner options. Service was impeccable. Rachel, our server, was friendly and attentive but not instructive. Came here with coworkers and it was around 3 pm and was not that busy inside. The interior of the place was very calm and nice. It looked like they had a back area that they were opening up around the time we were leaving. I had a Matcha lemonade. It was really good since I wasn't drinking at the time. I am vegan, so it was limited options for me but my coworkers had a lot of food and they all said it was pretty good... The soba noodles that I had was OK. It was cold and I don't really care for cold food very tasty so I got fries too just in case I didn't like the actual meal... their bathroom was nice and clean. You did have to walk down the steps though to get to the bathroom so I was wondering if it was like an elevator I didn't ask about it, but I just thought for accessibility reasons it'll be nice to see if there's an elevator. The staff was nice. They did take a while to service us, but I think my coworkers were pretty indecisive what they want so they was giving us time to choose from stuff but got her food. That's a pretty big deal to me. The seafood platter that I got for the table was OK. I got the middle sized one and it was pretty meager quantity on a very large serving tray tower. It was aesthetically not appealing and made me feel like it was not worth the $$$. The chicken I got was fantastic. I mean, really delightful and I would get it again in a heartbeat. The s'mores jar dessert was too sweet. It maybe needed something salty and something crunchier and maybe a dark chocolate element. But it was beautiful. This is a hip place with some great veggie options! RSVP'd for a group of 16 for my sister's bachelorette party. Given the large size of the group their service was really good and fast! They had a bunch of awesome looking options. I went for the cauliflower tacos with no pineapple. They brought the tortillas out separately then I got to set up the little tacos. The veggies were so fresh and flavorful, loved the salsa. The meal had a hint of spice without it being overly spicy. My sister got the bibimbap and loved it! A lot of the girls got pasta dishes and enjoyed them. It was a bit noisy in here, but it was a Friday night so it makes sense. Cool, dark ambiance here. Pretty expensive but it is a nicer place.
