Had a great time Friday night at dinner with my friend! The service was excellent, and the restaurant itself is spacious and lively. To start, I had the Cucumber Loco cocktail, which was refreshing & obviously very cucumber forward. The food was 10/10. We ordered the crispy rice salmon tartare, and I absolutely loved it. We also had the burrata, and the accompanying crostini was perfectly crunchy. The tuna dish was our favorite. It was incredibly fresh, and I wish I could have it again right now lol! We also ordered the skirt steak and truffle fries, both I would definitely recommend. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit and would say this spot is absolutely worth trying!
Love to see the smith is the same across the board and various locations in the city. The food is amazing, the set up is great, and can't complain about the service. I love the chips and blue cheese app and the Mac and cheese is always to die for. We tried a salad with shrimp in it and it was absolutely delicious!
Dinner at The Smith is the perfect preamble to an evening show at the Lincoln Center. It has become tradition for my husband and I to come here. We begin our meals as usual: drinks with shrimp cocktail to split. We then segue to our main courses of the usual: a burger for him and the shrimp scampi for me, although the formula for the latter dish has changed during my last two visits, so for tonight I opted for the pasta in vodka sauce instead. It was delicious, and I decided to make it my usual going forward. Then, we end with the sticky toffee pudding, my favorite of its kind in the city. I haven't tried anything at The Smith that I didn't like. The burger is delicious and the accompanying fries are wonderfully crisp while still retaining that soft, potato-ey interior. Their shrimp cocktail is delectably plump and sweet. The pasta a la vodka is creamy and imbued with so much garlic flavor. The pudding is so decadently sweet, yet you can't help but feel like you can indulge yourself to another helping. The Smith, once a convenient pre-show place to dine, quickly became one of our favorites.
I hadn't been to The Smith in years and was excited to return before a show at Lincoln Center. I was very confused upon entry as there was a large amount of people waiting at the Host desk. Lots of people were waiting on their reservations to be met and some had been waiting up to 20 mins past their reservation time. The staff told us that their turnover was slow tonight, meaning tables were hanging out a bit after they had completed meals and paid the check. My party sat just 5 mins after our schedule reservation. I think they handled it well and that didn't go in to my rating. I think restaurants will have those nights. We got to our table and our server was very sweet and working so hard. I must admit, I was a bit underwhelmed by my pasta dish. It was good but was expecting a bit more rich flavor from a braised short rib pasta. It was a tad bland. My mom ordered a burger which she very much enjoyed. Finally, I will say this...that restaurant is so very loud. Because it's so crowded, conversations feel like they are on top of you and it's hard to hear. Would I go back? Sure. But I'm not rushing.
Popped in to the Smith after a night at Lincoln Center around 9:30 on a Friday and was very happy to snag seats at the bar. The place was buzzing, and I hadn't made a reservation. The bar was perfect though considering that I was craving snacks and a cocktail. I ordered a dirty blue cheese olive martini along with the black truffle arancini and a side of fries. Exactly the kind of warm, cozy food you want to cap off an evening out. The staff were friendly and efficient, and our food came out quickly despite the crowd. It was the perfect low-effort, high-satisfaction stop before heading home. A solid post-show move.
Exactly across the street from Lincoln Center and in the heart of the Upper West Side, The Smith is filled with everyone from pre- and post-theatergoers to neighborhood families to global travelers, where we decided on brunch last Saturday. The reservation was easily made with OpenTable. Each location of this establishment boasts a unique ambiance, blending modern design with classic elements - a nod to old-school New York. Upon entering, the interior is characterized by open layouts, communal tables, and a lively atmosphere, making it suitable for everyone. My partner and I were greeted by the host and got a table in a private room usually held for special events. Their menu features a variety of classic American dishes, emphasizing fresh, locally sourced ingredients. As an appetizer, we opted for the Mac & Cheese and Crispy Calamari. As a main meal, we decided on Avocado Toast and a French Dip Sandwich accompanied by Fries. Complimentary sourdough bread with salted butter and one bottle of spring water and one of sparkling water started our meal. The Mac and Cheese served in a mini skillet was phenomenal. The cheese was dripping, and the noodles were perfectly chewy, with the top having that crust, too. The food was fresh, well-prepared, and perfectly portioned. The cost didn't break the wallet. We had the pleasure of having Adonis as our server, and the service was quick. He was fantastic and would check on us. This place provides satisfaction.
Met with a friend in the city for a late lunch/early dinner. She grabbed a burger and fries, I settled for the avocado toast and 3 French 75s. The service was excellent, the food and drink were good and the day was beautiful.
Made a reservation here on a Monday night given we had an event to attend at Lincoln Center but it was extremely busy and crowded given it was the wicked: for good premiere and everyone had the same idea. So I don't know how busy it gets on a normal weeknight. I made a reservation for 5:30pm and was seated right away. We only wanted to come for a quick bite so my daughter ordered Mac and cheese and I ordered crispy chicken pillard. The chicken was well seasoned, crispy on the outside, moist on the inside. Placed on top of a bed of garlic whipped potatoes, which was smooth and creamy. The lemon caper sauce balanced out the greasiness from the fried chicken. The portion size was very generous and I was super full even though I shared half of my chicken with my daughter to go with her Mac and cheese and I only had a couple bites of the whipped potatoes. My 10 year old daughter thoroughly enjoyed her Mac and cheese and claimed it's cheesy and al dente. Our server was awesome as she was friendly, quick and efficient, and gave us just the right amount of attention without overwhelming us. It was loud given how busy it was but it didn't bother us as we were still able to have a conversation without losing our voice. Overall, this is a great option for a presume meal since it's so close to Lincoln center. It's also children friendly as it has kids menu available
First time dining at this location of The Smith. The location is bigger on the inside than what you see when you enter from the street. There is another dining area in the back for customers to dine. We were there on a weekend, so it was busy. We had a little bit of a wait, so we got drinks at the bar. The ambiance for dinner is a little darker than the Nomad location we usually frequent when in Manhattan. So those who have trouble seeing in low light may have problems reading the menus. We sat in the back area and sat at a table where it was half chairs and half bench seating. We had plenty of space at our table. The Smith has daily specials that rotate thru the week. Since it was Saturday I got the baby back ribs special which had a sweet glaze, kale and a potato salad slaw. I liked the potato salad slaw which was a refreshing bite that worked well with the tender baby back ribs. The bathrooms were located downstairs where like in other The Smith there are communal sinks where men and women share then separate areas for the women and men toilet rooms. We had a good time and will return in the future.
We came to The Smith for dinner on April 1st before attending a play at the Lincoln Center. This restaurant ambiance was just what I expected for a New York experience - full of life and hustle, bustle. The location is perfect for a meal before attending an event at the Lincoln Center. We were seated quickly because I had made a reservation. (It was busy so I definitely recommend making a reservation.) We ordered drinks and food, which arrived quickly. Both the drinks and food were absolutely delicious!! Especially loved the Manhattan drink!! My first Manhattan in Manhattan!! The only downside was we never saw our waiter Denny P after we order our food until he brought our bill (someone else delivered the food). We definitely would have ordered more drinks if he had come around again to check on us. All-in-all it was really nice but I had to knock off a star for the service.
This location was PACKED! However we didn't feel it as customers. When we didn't see our server another server was attentive. This was my first time doing brunch. I had steak and eggs the steak was a decent size and the eggs were good fries were BOMB. As a starter I had mac n cheese if you love a nice cheese layer like me order it ! So good. For drinks i had a cucumber drink which tasted more pickle than cucumber so i prob wouldn't get it again but overall we had a good experience. I do wish the tables were more spread out but I understand trying to get as much customers in as you can. Not a deal breaker for me
This place was so crowded so make reservations. My dining mates liked their food. Mine was the grilled chicken sandwich. For me it was overly doused with the pesto topping. It was just okay. Waiter was very nice.

I visited the Smith in Washington DC and remember loving the experience. It's an American modern yet casual restaurant. I came here with a friend and the wait time was 45 minutes. It was super busy, but this place is usually crowded. Luckily, there were a few spots available at the bar. If not, we would have to wait a long time for a table. There were many bartenders working, thus service service was speedy. I popped in on a Saturday and they are serving brunch. I think it's a great place for brunch! I ordered the Smith Burger- cheddar, bacon shallot jam, crispy onions, house pickles, sauce, potato bun. It was a combination of sweet and savory. I barely touch my salad though, I should have ordered the fries instead. The ambiance was great - trendy and calm. 5 stars. read more

Came here with friends for brunch. I was skeptical because the menu wasn't that interesting to me and it was pricey. The place was packed and noisy. Despite that service was great. It never felt like we had to wait long or were forgotten. Our food came at around the same time we ordered our meals. Maybe about 10mins later. I ordered the Smith Benedict and a friend ordered the calamari for the table. The calamari was great. It may very well be the best I've ever had. The aioli will live in my head rent free. I would love it on the side or on a burger and fries! The Smith Egg Benedict was great as well. It was well portioned. I ended up not eating everything leaving behind home fries. The biscuit actually surprised me. I had low expectations for it but again, it may be the best biscuit I've had! The ham was good as well. I'm not really interested coming back. It was good but the price scares me! That being said, I'd come back! read more

Their prices are on the higher end, but they are all in great locations and their portions are on the larger side for most dishes. The ambiance is nice and consistent across all their locations, but it does get a little loud with a lot of people. I always have a nice meal with no complaints when going to The Smith. The chips with Gorgonzola cheese sauce... amazing way to start the meal! We were visiting the area and found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We both started with a cocktail to enjoy with the chips, recommended by our waiter. My husband ordered and burger and I got the pot pie, and we were both very satisfied with our choices! We chose outdoor seating on a drizzly summer night. The location was nice, there were still people walking around and cars driving by at 10pm on a Friday night. The sticky toffee pudding was amazing I would come back just for the pudding!! The peppers were too salty (and greasy) for me at times, it was a hit or miss. I didn't try the salmon, but my boyfriend said it was "not bad." Overall food was meh until we got to the pudding. read more

We came on a Friday night and they were very busy - even after 9 pm. It took a while to get service, and then we had to wait a really long time before we were able to ask for our bill. I had a burger, which was a bit undercooked, but still good. My friend had the mussels, which were really yummy. The sauce was excellent. UPDATE: the restaurant manager contacted me about my review and the burger I had, offering a refund. I have to update my review because I have NEVER experienced this before. It's incredibly good customer service to contact me and offer compensation. I am impressed. read more
Came here for brunch. After a 30 minute wait we were seated all the way in the back in a very crowded room where the back of my chair was hit by each person who walked by. If you come here with one other person you are seated at a table where you are elbow to elbow with strangers. The people at the table next to us were so loud we couldn't have a conversation during the entire duration of our brunch. It was such an annoying experience that I wouldn't come back here just for that reason. Moving on to the actual food... we ordered the goat cheese omelette and the Benedict Johnny. Honestly the goat cheese omelette was good, not great, nothing special for the price ($19). The Benedict Johnny was really good but I still don't think it's worth coming here. It's too packed and everyone is seated way too close together. The experience I had here made me so uncomfortable that I wouldn't return. read more

I have come here many times but recently I came to meet my friend for lunch. This meal was great; first let's start with the hostess. He was very friendly and polite. He told me there would be a wait for the table. We waited and we were seated within the allotted time. Secondly our waiter was amazing; he was friendly and helpful. I ordered the crispy salmon and my friend order the burrata. Both of these appetizers were delicious and memorable. Thinking about them makes me want to go back. Also they give you both sparkling and still water for the table. We ordered sandwiches for our entrees. My friend ordered the burger which was delicious and I ordered the sandwich of the day which was also good. I liked the flavors of the sandwich but I believe the bread was not sturdy enough to hold the short rib nor the sauce of the short rib. This sandwich was flavorful but the bread was soggy. There was no way l I could hold this sandwich with my hand. To me this was as more of an open faced sandwich. I would recommend it but if you don't like soggy bread; I would say for them to put the sauce on the side and ask if you can change the bread. The place was very full and yet we never felt rushed or crowded. This was a casual open space restaurant with good lighting and ventilation. I will be back to order my own burger. read more

The menu drew me in. This restaurant was across the street from my hotel. It was quite busy on a Saturday morning. Reservations are a must. However, the outdoor patio had some availability on a crisp, chilly morning. After being seated, I ordered coffee that was pretty strong for my liking (just me). For my breakfast entree, I selected the Simple Scramble with scrambled eggs, apple smoked bacon, home fries, and mixed greens. The dish was what I expected and satisfying. The greens lacked dressing so I left them. Otherwise, the bacon was crisp and tasty and home fries were good (wanted more than were served on my plate), and the eggs were well prepared. I like that the restaurant has many non-standard food options available along with drink (inc. alcoholic) selections. This makes for a great family breakfast! Allow me to add that the interior (in the back past the prep walk-through) is quite beautiful. I enjoyed observing the wood ceilings and elegant fixtures. Saturday Brunch, Open table reservations for 11:30 a.m., for a party of 4, the restaurant was packed when we arrived both outside and in. We were seated right away when our party had all arrived. Service was very good. We ordered Bloody Mary's and believe it or not the 3 of us all ordered the Smith Burger with Fries and the Smith Eggs Benedict. All the food came out made to order and all tasting great. I would definitely recommend this place just make sure you make reservations in advance. Atmosphere: open, airy, good for brunch. We always relish a quick lunch or dinner at The Smith. Since my partner's office is nearby, it was perfect for a quick lunch date. The wait staff was attentive, and we were promptly seated on this particular occasion. I opted for the crispy sesame calamari and roasted tomato soup. The calamari arrived with gochujang aioli and Thai basil, which added a delightful kick along with a side of lime to squeeze on the calamari, perfectly balancing the flavors. The roasted tomato soup, topped with melted cheddar, was creamy and bursting with garlic, elevating an already hearty soup. I can't wait to try out other dishes on their menu read more

Friday night was our second time at The Smith (the first was when we got out of KGB Bar at 9 pm on a Wednesday night 10 days earlier looking for a nearby place for a late dinner. The service, the ambiance, and the amazing food drew us back faster than to any other restaurant we've tried lately. On our first visit, we had the RIcotta Gnocchi and Spaghetti Bolognese, and both were uniquely prepared and delicious. We had the non-alcoholic cocktail City Bird (pineapple / pomegranate / hibiscus / NA aperitif / lime) and a ginger beer. On our last visit, I was able to get the salmon they'd run out of the previous visit, and it was a perfectly roasted steak on a bed of onions, mint, harissa, and olives and a froth of yogurt and hummus. We also got the very generous Pot of Mussels (chardonnay-dijon broth with tarragon) and a side of french fries. I ordered the City Bird again, because it was so yummy, and my husband got the Other Half Green City IPA, which was refreshingly unique. What was different? The first time, we went in with no reservation on a Friday night, and they found us a quiet table in a corner despite the crowd there. The manager and the server were amazingly calm and polite despite how busy they were, and the food came fast. The second time, a tad earlier, still really packed, the stress was showing on the manager and server, but other than getting our drinks a few minutes after the asparagus appetizer the service was fine. Would we go back? Of course. There are a number of tempting and unique menu items we haven't tried yet. For reference, The Smith also has restaurants in Chicago and DC, and in NYC's Midtown, Lincoln Square, and NoMad (north of Madison Square Park, on Broadway). read more

We got the Smith eggs Benedict and the Benedict Johnny for our entrees. The eggs were well cooked and the home fries were fried and seasoned well. The cornbread on the Benedict johnny paired well with the savoriness of the sausage and the egg. The shishito peppers were well seasoned. The burrata was a cacophony of sweet and salty flavors. The service was a little bit lacking, as the restaurant was completely filled, so we felt slightly under attended by our waitress. That being said, when she did come by she was very sweet and welcoming. Related to the previous comment of the restaurant being completely filled, we felt slightly cramped in our space as our table was shoulder to shoulder with our neighboring tables to the point where we had to move the table to get into the inside seat. read more

Indoor and outdoor seating available. There is generous seating here, which can be good for large groups. However, it is quite loud. Service was ok, but the restaurant seemed really busy. The mac and cheese is $21, and can serve as a generous entree. However, there was not anything special about it except that it was served in a cast iron pan. The taste was good, but not something I would say is worth the price tag. The brussels sprouts had an interesting taste to it. It was oddly sour, so the flavor combination was a little off-putting. The sprouts themselves were well roasted though. Overall, this is a pretty average place with typical American fare with slightly higher prices than expected. read more

I haven't been to the smith in a long time. I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture. However, I just got the smith burger and fries. I walked in and was seated right away. The waitress gave me a menu and a few minutes later asked if I had any questions she didn't tell me the specials which I noticed she told everyone around me. I stated I'll have the Smith Burger don't was fine, I suppose. I don't eat many burgers and haven't had theirs in years but I know for one they changed the bacon, that I was sad about. The burger was a bit greasy and overcooked. I asked for medium, I received med well (I guess). It was well done in actually for the most part. It's a good thing I'm not hard to please but I was a wee bit disappointed again. The restaurant itself was clean but it is noisy. I notice that each time I visit, it's just that sort of place. Don't try to make a phone call there. Hehehe read more
We enjoyed grabbing brunch at The Smith near Lincoln Center (as I know they have many locations). I saw pictures of their smoked salmon toast, but unfortunately wasn't on the menu at this time, so was a bit bummed by that. We ended up getting egg scramble with bacon, greens, and home fries (def worth asking for the well done), and also a spicy salmon tartar on crispy rice. Unfortunately the salmon didn't taste as fresh as I would've liked, but was still a nice compliment to the egg dish we had. Service was attentive and overall restaurant was huge (plenty of comfortable seating)! Will def give it another go next time I'm in the area (that burger looks delicious!) read more
Came here for lunch with a friend and we were quickly seated. I ordered the oyster of the day and the kale & quinoa salad with salmon. The oyster had a great fresh and briny taste. The salad on the other hand was disappointing. There was very little flavor in the dressing of the salad and the seasoning of the salmon. The salad would do better to have a stronger cheese instead of ricotta as the overall taste was very bland. The salmon was cooked well, but the lack of seasoning ruined the experience. Service here could also do better. Before we ordered, our server was very attentive. Unfortunately, after our meals were brought to us we were not checked on and neither was our water refilled. We had to request our check from a different server so we could leave. Overall the place has good ambiance, but mediocre food and service are reasons I wouldn't suggest this place. read more

I had an amazing experience at The Smith. We went on a Thursday night and we're able to be seated immediately. The inside was a bit noisy, but it wasn't too bad where we sat on the patio and the weather was perfect. We ordered some cocktails and had oysters and truffle arancini. The oysters were extremely fresh and delicious! The truffle arancini were soooo good that I could've eaten 4 orders of them. They were cheesy, hot, and perfect. First time trying this place for brunch. The place is lively and busy. A good sign. There were outdoor seating options but we opted for indoors. We were surprised as there was ample space inside with plenty of tables. I had the delicious Shrimp + cheddar grits with poached eggs topped with shoestring potatoes.. a wonderful combination. The Benedict Johnny was also awesome and we left nothing on the plate! Delicious maple sausage on top of cornbread. We appreciated the bottle of complementary bubbly water along with regular tap water on the table as well. We will be back again to try their other menu options. Overall, a solid spot for brunch. It certainly hit the spot! read more
