Had an amazing lunch here. I got the 2 meat combo with the Brisket and Smoked Sausage and it was delicious. The atmosphere reminds me of your typical barbecue place that I've seen many times. The ordering of your food took a few minutes which is definitely not bad considering how many people were in line to order when we got there. The server quickly replaced it however the standard of cleanliness must be equal to or higher than the taste of the food. No one wants to see a hair in their food when we go out to eat. We have been to Salisbury NC location and the Monroe location and both restaurants exceeded our expectations for sure. But I don't really mind paying more money for good quality food and that's what they were still providing until I stopped by this past Saturday. They have changed how they make the sweet potato casserole. It has gone from being an amazing side dish to wth is this! When I saw it and saw it had bigger pieces of nuts in it and none of the brown sugar stuff, I realized there had been a change. Unfortunately for me, it was not a good change. Man Listen! This place was a very hidden gem but well worth the drive. We did a mini vacay to GWL and didn't want to spend a lot of money eating at the resort everyday and not getting full, so I did a quick Yelp search and found this spot. We came on a Wednesday I believe and it was "extra side" day which if you think about it it kinda balanced the pricing out. Well we both ordered the choose two meat, I opted for pulled chicken and 3 whole wings (extra charge) and the hubby had 1/4 chicken with ribs (extra charge). Sides we had baked potato, fries, sweet potato casserole and slaw. Certain sides were extra charges and others I didn't eat. The wings came with your choose of sauce so we tried the dragon sauce. It was really good. Kinda reminded me of a sweet and spicy sauce. The quarter chicken comes with a sauce (I forget the name) but we opted to have it on the side bc we weren't sure how it would taste, but it ended up being really good. I love the Smoke Pit. We've been here for lunch or dinner a few times now and it has been consistently delicious. Both the chicken and BBQ are great. However, I think the sauce makes a huge difference. They have about 4 flavors to choose from. I like the sweet sauce most but my husband loves the lexington sauce. We've tried all of their sides and have no complaints at all. The sweet potato fries and Mac n cheese are amazing. The service is great. Everyone has been friendly and helpful during each of our visits. The line can get a little long at dinner time. Luckily, they always keep things moving really quickly. She found The Smoke Pit which was just a short drive off I-85 as we drove North. The place is located in what looks like it used to be an old convenience store or small grocery store. There is plenty of parking out front and they have some outdoor seating in the front. As soon as we walked in we smelled the delicious smoked meats. The order line is to the left but if you have a to-go order, you walk just to the right of that. We waited in line and looked at the menu on the wall to make our choices. My wife decided to try the blue chicken salad and I decided to try the pulled pork sandwich which comes with one side, I chose the baked mac and cheese. The side special of the day was Texas style green beans and we decided we needed to try those as well and agreed we would share them. They gave us a table number and we were told we could have a seat. A short while later our food was brought out to us. Everything looked amazing. The serving sizes were also great for the price. My wife was really impressed with the salad. The pulled pork was delicious. I tried a couple of their sauces and could not decide which I liked better. The Texas style green beans were also amazing. We would love to get our hands on their recipe - they were incredible. We only wished we had more! The baked mac and cheese was just okay and I felt it lacked significant flavor. The service provided was amazing. We even left a tip on the table for the person that took care of us in addition to the tip we left when we ordered. She was very friendly and efficient. Overall, this was a really good stop and the steady stream of people in and out of the place as we were there is a testament to the good BBQ and service. I always judge a BBQ place by their sides and by their brisket. I typically like everyone's pulled pork, grilled chicken, and ribs. But if a place does brisket really well, then you know they're doing everything really well. And this place has amazing brisket. I ordered the brisket and wings, plus max and cheese and hash brown casserole. The brisket was the perfect blend of fatty and lean, with a beautiful crust and it was super flavorful. The wings were also grilled perfectly. And the sauces I had were both delicious. As far as the sides the hash brown casserole was amazing, but the max and cheese was a little disappointing. I feel like most bbq places lean towards a dry max and cheese. I'm all about the cream and sauce, I want the cheese sauce dripping off the macaroni when my fork lifts it. Unfortunately this was not the case at The Smoke Pit. The mac and cheese was pretty dry and boring. The flavor wasn't bad, but there was nothing special about it. I came to this place for a road trip to North Carolina! All of the locals pointed this place as a must stop. And once I got there, I knew they weren't lying because there was a line straight out the door. We probably waited a good, 30 minutes to order food. There is a small indoor area to sit down in right next to a meat store where you can buy their meats. Once we sat down, we waited a good 10 minutes before the food came to the table. They had tons of sauces for us to smother our barbecue with, and everyone was super kind and helpful. There wasn't a single thing on my plate that I didn't like. This barbecue place is absolutely to die for. The pulled pork was definitely my favorite. I wish the ribs could've been a little bit more tender. But the mac & cheese could've eaten me. I wish I had gotten two things of the sweet potato. And the potato salad was better than my grandma could've made it.
