This is a classic charlotte staple with a long history in the Queen City dating back to the 1950s. It is onto its third generation owners in the same family and was even featured in the Green Book permanently cementing it in history. If the long ties to the city don't make you want to check it out, believe me the food will seal the deal! It is a take out spot with picnic tables if you want to eat on sight. Burgers, hot dogs, barbecue ribs, fried chicken, it is all there. It is one of my favorite spots to go for lunch when I have the time and I really don't have too much else to say that hasn't been said already by the legions of adoring fans who has supported the over the years. Stop in for some delicious and affordable food that is cooked with love.

Loved this local spot for good food served hot and quick. Menu has a good selection of burgers, chicken, fish and assorted sides. All pricing is reasonable. Quality control is excellent as they are very clean and quite organized. Service was warmly provided along with getting recommendations. Had a large Arnold Palmer which is a sweet tea and lemonade mix that was awesome. Interior seating is small. Orders are placed and cooked to order. You get a text message when your order is ready for pickup. Everything was good and I'm going back soon

It was crowded when we went, so we expected this place to be super bomb. The place is small and seems like an to-go order only type spot. Our order was wrong unfortunately when we got home. The food was just average. We had the perch and chicken wings. I don't think I'd try this place again but I can't say the same for my hubby!

Stopped to get a pork chop sandwich for mom she said it was great and fried perfectly. Rib snack for my nephew with a salad he loved the ribs and BBQ sauce. Salad was very fresh. Lots of items to choose from on there menu. I loved this place before going vegan. Service is always quick and great! There is no dine-in but you can sit outside at the picnic tables. Stop pass and check them out!

Just a little chicken shack on the near north side been dishing out food to the locals and tourists alike for 70 years if it's been a day... chickens, ribs, sammiches, fishes, and all like that. If you're at all clever you can call ahead and when you show up you get your food... otherwise you go in, order, leave, and come back in about fifteen or twenty minutes to get your food. I didn't know I was coming here until I got here and wound up doing the order, wait, and pick-up on my way to the airport to collect the cutest of chicks. chicken & rib meal thing with greens and potatoe salad and a beverage; took a bit longer than twenty minutes but there was people coming and going the whole while so yeah, that happens. got my food and got on my way to the CLT overlook to enjoy while watching the planes come and go: two piece dark was still hot and crunchy and moist when I tucked into it, pork ribs are just crazy good and meaty; the pig-sickles were dripping sweet red stickiness everywhere. potato salad was a pleasant distraction and has little colorful bits in it as well. really could have used a dash of red pepper vinegar on the greens, but when that's my biggest complaint I have no complaint.

I noticed this spot because I have to pass it on my way to campus & it seemed like a real mom & pop restaurant so I was really eager to try it. It's a very small restaurant, the ordering area can maybe hold 6 people comfortably. There is outside seating that seem like it could be very cozy on a good weather day. I ordered a Rib & Wing dinner combination. You could choice between Pork or beef ribs, light meat, dark meat or 3 wings! I chose the pork ribs & 3 wings with my sauce on the side. For the side I had French fries & collard greens! I love the crinkled cut fries and how they were seasoned. The collard greens didn't have enough unique flavor for my liking but they were not bad. The chicken wings were good & the ribs were nice & meaty. I tried the homemade lemonade & it was perfect. I have tasted nice sweet lemonade that good in along time. I would definitely go back to try other items off the menu. The two ladies at took the orders (Neveah) both were very nice & answered all my many questions about the restaurant and the menu. Both ladies made my visit welcoming.

Great place for carryout. I ordered the fried chicken and as others have stated, it's cooked to order so it is boxed fresh and hot. Well-seasoned and crispy. Service was nice and fast with a smile. Will def be back to try the ribs and sides.

Demolished !!! Had the six wings , mac & cheese with collard greens. Definitely you should try. Traveling through seen this gem to try.

The ribs seemed boiled. Sauce was good, but you need bark on ribs. It was super busy and hard to park

After striking out at two other BBQ spots on a Saturday night, I landed at Mac's Speed Shop around…read more8:30 p.m. and ended up having a surprisingly enjoyable experience. Mac's sits in the heart of South End and shares the neighborhood with several busy bars and nightlife spots. Parking can be a bit of an adventure, but they do have dedicated lots nearby. Once you're there, the setup is great: a large dining room, plenty of picnic-table patio seating, and my favorite option--a seat at the outdoor bar where the inside bar opens through a service window to the patio. The bartender, Alyssa, was fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable, and patient while I stared at the giant menu trying to figure out what I wanted. When I asked for recommendations, she immediately suggested the burnt ends, BBQ baked beans, and Mexican street corn. Excellent call. The blackberry seasonal hard cider she recommended was delicious and paired beautifully with the meal. My only surprise was the price. At nearly $9, it was more than I expected for a cider, and I wish I had asked beforehand. The burnt ends arrived with bright pickled red onions that added the perfect acidic balance. The flavor was excellent--smoky, rich, and satisfying. That said, they leaned heavily toward the fatty side. The deeper I got into the serving, the more rendered fat I encountered compared to meat. Delicious? Yes. Light? Absolutely not. The BBQ baked beans were exactly what you want from a barbecue joint. The Mexican street corn was a standout and a refreshing contrast to all the richness. My only critique was that the burnt ends weren't served quite as hot as I would have liked, and by the end of the meal, the richness became overwhelming. That's probably more on me for ordering burnt ends at 9 p.m. than on Mac's. The final bill came to about $37 before tip, which felt a little steep for a solo barbecue dinner and cider. Looking back, I'd probably visit during lunch. Their weekday lunch specials around $10 look like one of the best values in South End. Would I come back? Absolutely. The service was warm, the recommendations were spot on, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the food delivered exactly what a barbecue craving calls for. Next time, I'll arrive earlier, bring a bigger appetite, and maybe save the burnt ends for lunchtime. Life is too short not to eat well, Charlotte. If you're exploring South End and craving barbecue, Mac's Speed Shop is worth a stop.

Meh. When you need…read moreto be aggressive with a knife to get thru a rack of ribs, things aren't great. They didn't promise "fall off the bone" so I can't expect that, but most places I get ribs they just tear apart. This took work, and the mass of BBQ sauce slathered on makes the surgery a mess. So, that was a bummer. The tots lack creativity or any sort of seasoning which seems like an easy upgrade and a crowd pleaser. Oh well. Maybe I got there in a bad day, but if this is standard then I can't see not going to Noble Smoke next time I need ribs.

The pot liquor on the collard greens is done right but they don't cook them down long enough, FOR ME, or offer a mix (e.g. add some turnip and/or mustard greens in there). The other meats are just okay but service+ brisket and packaging that helps make this long, out of the way trip worth it because I made it back to University area and everything remained hot. You can order online via Toast tab (I think) but I enjoy restaurants that go to known platforms so I don't have whip out a card and pay when it's already on file. P.S. those burnt ends are beef and they're super salty. I want to enjoy them with less sodium. We are aging now so I don't need to add to contributing factors for stroke and heart disease via salt because I'm not giving up on good Que and you'll get that here.

It's absolutely loaded with meat -- not skimpy at all -- and the flavor is unreal. The brisket is tender, juicy, and packed with that smoky richness you expect, but elevated. The caramelized onions take it to another level. They add the perfect touch of sweetness that balances the savory brisket so well. And the bread? Perfect choice. It pairs beautifully with the meat and somehow doesn't get soggy, even with how juicy everything is. One thing I really love is that it comes wrapped in foil, and you could easily reheat it right in that same foil without losing quality. It holds up that well. Honestly, if they ever made brisket cheesesteak fries -- like this same brisket and toppings over crispy fries -- it would be an instant hit and such a great appetizer option. Third time trying it and it's just as amazing as the first. Definitely a must-order.
