Brisket Mac & Cheese Bombs - inside
    Brandon W.

Passing through town on the way to Charlotte, we were in the mood for BBQ and Yelp led us to Jim 'N Nick's. Honestly, was pretty skeptical of finding something of good quality near Concord Mills, but decided to trust the good looking pictures. First impressions were good, with a wonderfully smoky smell as soon as you walk in that makes me believe the food is cooked fresh on site. If they're trucking it in from somewhere else, they absolutely have me fooled and I'll choose to remain ignorant. We were seated at one of the little elevated booth style seats and promptly met by a friendly waitress. She was kind and attentive our entire visit, though I failed to catch her name to shout her out. Right off the top, she brought us a basket of the cheddar biscuits and we were quick to take her up on refills because they were *fantastic*! The menu is comprehensive and it was hard to choose. When we did order, we were shocked at how large the portions were and ended up taking almost all of the food home with us. We got the Brisket Mac & Cheese bites and these things were amazing, with large crispy portions of exactly what the name entails. They were honestly a meal on their own and fantastic. Dinner was the Brisket Chili for my wife and the loaded spud for me - Both delicious with very generous portions. No complaints here. I've got this place bookmarked for another visit when I'm in the area again, and would encourage others to try it too! You'll be surprised how fresh and authentic the food is when many of the restaurants in the neighborhood give that "generic mass produced" feel.

Decent BBQ with Solid Food, Average Service I recently ate at Jim 'N Nick's BBQ in Concord and overall had a pretty decent experience. The food was definitely the highlight -- everything tasted fresh and well-prepared. The BBQ had good flavor, and the sides were solid too. We.ordered a platter to share with ribs, shredded chicken and lean brisket with the coleslaw and potato salad. You can tell they take their time with the smoked meats, which is what keeps people coming back. Common areas were clean and the vibe was family friendly. The service, however, was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't anything special. Staff were polite, but things felt a bit slow and not very attentive compared to what you'd expect at a place like this. Overall, I'd still come back for the food since that's the most important part, but improving the service would definitely make the experience better.

Chicken Tender Dinner with collard greens and Mac and Mac & Cheese

I really come for the cornbread muffins and the chicken finger dinner. The muffins were a little cold which was a little disappointing. Besides that, the server was friendly and quick. The tenders were fresh, hot, and big. The collards were sooooo tasty and the Mac was good. I also ordered a Southern Peach drink that had bourbon and a peach puree-- it was so good. I'll be back

We stopped in at Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q and were not disappointed! We started with the deviled eggs, which was such a fun surprise--I don't think I've ever seen deviled eggs on a restaurant menu before. They were creamy, flavorful, and the perfect start to the meal. Then came a basket of their cheese biscuits... oh my goodness, those are to die for! I ordered the pork with their house barbecue sauce and chose collard greens and mac and cheese for my "trimmings" (that's what they call sides). The collard greens had a nice spicy kick, and the mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. Two of my colleagues ordered the brisket and said it was the best they've ever had--I was almost wishing I'd ordered that too! We wrapped things up with banana pudding, and let's just say the plate was practically licked clean. If you're anywhere near Charlotte, Jim N Nick's is definitely worth a stop--great barbecue, friendly service, and those cheese biscuits alone make it memorable.

I don't remember being this disappointed the couple times I've been here a few years ago. Something must have changed in management or staff, but we were very underwhelmed. Lots of tables available but still had to wait 20 min (which we were told would be 10-15min) so probably not enough servers. Our server barely came to check on us, and even though we ordered immediately after being seated, things were still so slow. The brisket was dry, not much flavor, and definitely not marbled, despite confirming with our server she ordered marbled for us instead of lean. It's hard to mess up pulled pork, but this tasted like nothing. Best part of the meal was probably the corn and the cheese biscuits. Even the second batch of cheese biscuits took a while. Our mistake for coming here instead of any of the much better bbq options in Charlotte.

After that other place across town that's not worth mentioning - we sped away from that shop - JNN made me feel like we made the right choice. I felt bad pushing my friends but we needed food and the other place just didn't give a mac. Well, at JNN, the server actually greets you, brings you water, takes your order, and checks on you! Normal server things! Yay. JNN feels like Mission BBQ inside - rather bright, music playing, but not overly kid-oriented (no loud birthday celebrations for example, I heard a waitress wish someone a happy birthday and that was that). Good southern taste. Those cheesy corn biscuits that came right out to the table, oh. my. goodness. I'm so sad that we drove out past the drive-through and it said you could order them by the half-dozen or dozen! I so could have taken another bag of those home with me. Creamy, fluffy, sweet, perfection. The special mac n cheese balls - very good, maybe a little too greasy and over-fried on the outside. Kinda masked the taste inside. As for the entree? My first bite of chicken was a little tough, but it got better as I ate into it. If you can handle a little twinge of heat, ASK FOR THE HONEY HOT BBQ SAUCE. One of the best sauces I've ever come across. It went on everything, though the chicken honestly stood on its own merits. Of the sides, I think I overdid it with the mac and the app. The collards are tasty with their meat included, but not quite cooked down enough - still crunchy. My friend enjoyed the baked beans and their meat. Well, with good service, atmosphere, and food, I had to walk out of there with the dessert. Dark molasses, pecans all the way through? That's my vibe. And of the many north Charlotte BBQ places, I vote that this should be yours as well.

No complaints! Delicious food- moist chicken, ribs were okay my husband said middle was delicious but end was a little hard and the Mac n cheese was delicious! I always enjoy a Mac with a crust! My favorite has to be their cheese biscuits! Our waitress was nice and attentive but not in the way lol which was perfect. The place is fairly large which is nice especially if you have a small group you won't have to wait long probably. The music was nice all in all a nice spot to eat.

Everything we ate was delicious! Bbq, brisket, onion rings, and smoked turkey. They are busy, but it's because the food is so good!

Best, most meaty ribs I've ever had. Will return when we are next in North Carolina. Wish we had one at home.

Cheese bread and brisket were amazing, I would stick to the marbled brisket as the lean doesn't have the flavor or texture the marbled has

Amazing food at amazing prices. Costs less to eat here for 2 adults and 2 kids than it did at Chick-fila.

You already know Auntie D loves putting her dollars behind the sisters. But let's be clear: the food earns every bit of this praise. I have yet to leave disappointed. My chicken-fried chicken and French toast were absolutely worth the drive. My daughter had pancakes and chicken-fried chicken, and those scrambled eggs? Light, fluffy, and deserving of their own little round of applause. Mama thoroughly enjoyed her lunch and brought leftovers home. Took a quick nap, woke up, and finished them off. That to-go box never stood a chance. ...i Crack myself up.  Now, let's discuss these FRIED PICKLES. Light, crispy, airy, with that just-right dill tang. You get a good pickle inside a lovely crisp coating. And the ranch! Full of fresh, herbaceous flavor and on the thinner side, which I actually enjoy--it works beautifully on the salad and with those pickles. I don't need my ranch standing at attention; I need it tasting good! Crack of Dawn keeps giving me a reason to make that drive. Good food, a family business I'm happy to support, and three generations at our table leaving satisfied. Five out of five fried pickles from Auntie D! C'est si bon!

A must stop for both dinner and Southern breakfast enthusiasts…read more On my way home from Charlotte, I used Yelp to find me a classic diner to start my day off right. I choose the Crack of Dawn Diner in Concord. I am so glad I did. Crack of Dawn Diner is the real thing--a local Concord breakfast-and-lunch spot serving traditional Southern fare at reasonable prices. The menu caters to local tastes, the dining room is filled with regulars, and the atmosphere is comfortable rather than trendy. Parking is somewhat limited. The private lot surrounding the restaurant was fully used so I parked in the lot next door that had signs that said private property, but it looked like other patrons were parking there also so I took the chance. As it turns out, it was safe to park there. The entrance is very welcoming, as well as the staff. Amanda was my very efficient and nice waitress. There is great teamwork here, and Amanda was well supported by, I believe, the owner who ran my food out and talked a bit with me. The menu is fascinating. A distinctly North Carolina menu. Several things jumped out: * Breakfast special for $6.59 weekdays * Breakfast plates mostly under $12 * Grits included as a side option * Livermush available * City ham and country ham both offered * Pork chops available for breakfast I ordered the country-fried steak with white gravy (essentially chicken-fried steak), along with two sunny-side-up eggs, perfectly prepared grits, a large buttermilk biscuit, and a delicious diner coffee. The restaurant occupies a stand-alone building with a warm, "come on in and rest a spell" atmosphere. Inside, you'll find counter seating, an open kitchen, and tables throughout the dining room. I chose a seat by the window overlooking the parking area. This was a great breakfast, that was reasonably priced, in a great atmosphere, with very nice people. It stuck to both my mind and ribs all day long. After breakfast, I continued on to downtown Concord and spent some time exploring one of North Carolina's most charming revitalized downtown districts. The breakfast was the perfect start to the morning. Crack of Dawn Diner has earned a spot on my repeat list whenever my travels take me through the Charlotte-Concord area.
