BBQ and Bourbon in one place? What's not to love?!? My buddy and I came in here on my most recent trip to Boston. We ordered some brisket spring rolls to start. These were delicious and came with a great bbq ranch sauce. We then split a 3 meat plate; wings, burnt ends, and pulled pork (they were out of brisket) it came with cornbread, beans, mac and cheese and potato salad. The wings were phenomenal; smokey and crisp. The pulled pork was good and paired well with their sauce. The burnt ends came already sauced and were swimming in it. They weren't my favorite. The sides were just ok to me, but I really liked the cornbread. The whiskey selection was huge! I got a pour of the Heaven's Door Private Selection which was a 127.4 proof and delicious. As said by one of the people in our party, its pretty mid. Had a chance to try most of the sides and the meat because of the size of our party. The good to very good: Pulled chicken - good flavor! Came here last night for dinner. When you walk in the host was very welcoming. But I decided to sit at the bar. The bartender gave us menus recommended drinks. And as looked got us waters. I've been back to this location a few times over the years and have felt they've improved in their quality control for the most part. The food wasn't an off temp and their sides are pretty much the same. However, their fries were not as seasoned as I've had before and their spicy n sweet coleslaw had zero spice and tasted just like regular coleslaw. I still think their brisket is the best protein they have and I've had the chance to try their pulled chicken and jalapeno cheddar links which are both decent as well. I haven't been able to try the ribs again since I was so disappointed the last time I tried it and am reluctant to pay for another bad experience. The wings are better, but still nowhere near the same as I had it years ago. They were still somewhat dry depending on the different sized pieces and the wings needed more seasoning. Customer service was meh. We were seated and waited. No one came by to at least tell us that they'd be with us or will come take our order soon or anything like that. We saw a sign on the table about ordering on the app so we figured maybe we are supposed to order on the app. Not too busy, normal chatter for a bbq joint, a few office workers and small families were dining. This continues to be the best location of the bunch. The drinks are never perfect, but they are well done. We always start with the wings. The ranch is like nothing I have tasted. For entrees with go with the pulled pork, brisket, and the ribs. They are all outstanding. The hot streak is my favorite bbq, and the sweet victory is my wife's fav. I've never made it to dessert but I'm sure they're excellent. The service is OK, I'm not sure on the 3% kitchen fee. I feel like that should be an option, not a necessity. We ordered BBQ delivery from this establishment. I wish I could give a good report about the pulled pork sandwich but cannot. While the sauces were interesting, and I requested 3 which arrived in thimble sized portions to taste the variety, the basic problem was dried out meat. The first bite was ok, but the interior of the sandwich was dry--and I did not finish it. The base for good BBQ is moist, tender meat, and what I received had lived under a heat lamp until it expired. I've been to dozens of bbq joints, big and small, New England to Texas, so I know of what I speak (check my earlier reviews).The bun was fluffy, the baked beans quite tasty, but the main event was disappointing. read more

Fast service, great BBQ, inventive sauces. It's a testament to the quality of AK BBQ that a chain in Boston can blow everything we offer out of the water! I'm not sure what particularly style of BBQ they are going for here, but they have two of my favorites: Collard greens: usually found in Southern BBQ Burnt ends: usually found in KC BBQ I got both, and it was the perfect combo. I love collards so much that I used up both of my sides with double collards. Fun fact: I once asked an owner of a BBQ restaurant if he was planning on offering "greens" and he said "people don't come to a BBQ place for salad". Whoof. read more

He only came over when he saw someone else at our table. He never predropped condiments. Had to wait 20 minutes for fries that he never put in. Bathrooms were also disgusting. Located in Boston's nice Seaport neighborhood, I enjoyed the ambiance of this decently-sized restaurant. Service was really friendly as well. Ordered the Pit Boss - 3 meats (brisket, burnt ends, hot links) and 3 sides (mac & cheese, fries, texas toast). I wanted to get Brussel sprouts but they were out at the time. Although, I do wish I got cornbread instead of the toast since it looked like the brisket already came with a slice. Loved the brisket and hot links. I think it's my first time trying burnt ends and I thought they were just alright. Out of the three sauces they had, my preference would be that I would go Sweet Victory (1st). Wow! What a great surprise for our first night in Boston. We walked over to the restaurant after signing in to our hotel early on a Sunday night, so It was not very crowded. Friendly staff made us feel welcome and the restaurant itself is casual and comfortable. Then came the food! Another wow! We loved the hot chicken sliders, the barbecued chicken sandwich, the fries - crisp and good; the cole slaw very tasty; the smoked chicken - "outstanding"; the cornbread "over the top'' the full slab or ribs - "amazing" and the beans - "excellent". Lunch one afternoon in May: If you only like greens the way your Mother makes them, then do not come here. These are not your Mother's greens. I never had anything like "Bacony Collard Greens" before and they are great. This was my side item with my sandwich order the Dr. Franken Swine (Pulled pork, cheddar‑jalapeño link, slaw, on a roll). This sandwich is too large to pick up, and even if you could your big mouth is not big enough. You would not pick up a stack of pancakes would you? It is knife and fork time. And the corn bread taste better than cake. And the 'Signature Dessert' "Seasonal Gooey Butter Cake" taste better than your Mother' cake too. The place is clean and beautiful. Set by the window and watch the people walking by wishing they were having lunch with you. And be nice to the staff. They all are very nice people so please be respectful too. read more

I'll preface this review by first saying that I LOVE the FOOD at the Smoke Shop BBQ. Usually, I get one of their combo plates; either the Pit Boss or the Pit Crew. My favorite meat is easily their brisket or burnt ends. Their BBQ is always so flavorful and the meat is nice and tender. Their wings are really tasty as they're smoked and tossed in a sweet yet spicy sauce. I've never been disappointed by the food, it's always delicious! I've been to this location a handful of times as well. On my most recent visit, I was incredibly disappointed by the service we got. Reading some recent reviews it seems like other Yelp-ers have had some disappointing experiences with the service as well... so perhaps it's something with this location. We went to the Smoke Shop on a Saturday at around 2:30 pm and it wasn't busy. There were only 2 or 3 other tables and they were on their way out. However, once we got seated, it took about 15 minutes for us to be attended to... and it wasn't even from our server. We were seated near the bar so I think it was the bartender or maybe the barback who gave us our water. At that point, we were ready to order and I mentioned it to the person who gave us our water. He originally said that he wasn't our server but he'd take our order which I appreciated because we never got officially greeted by our server. At the end of our meal, we didn't even know who to ask for the bill! We got our food delivered by two different people. Once someone stopped by to ask how our food was, we were almost done eating. It also took a while to get our bill since they got busy once we were about to leave. I understood that since it was busy, it was going to take a minute, but it was impossible to flag down literally anyone. At one point, I was debating on just going up to the host stand and asking to pay there since it was taking so long. Overall, I think the Smoke Shop BBQ has fantastic BBQ that is incredibly flavorful and tasty. However, based on my recent experience, the service doesn't match up to how good the food is. The vibes here are very family-friendly (there are usually a good amount of families here) and can get on the louder end if you're coming for dinner. Parking is tough because it's in Seaport, but that's to be expected. read more

I've had some less-than-stellar experiences at some other TSS locations. Add to that the heavenly BBQ at Goodstuff Smokehouse (In Blackstone - 100% worth the trek), and TSS had some big shoes to fill. While not S-Tier, this location left me pleasantly surprised and honestly somewhat impressed! Perhaps the 'secret' is when I ordered the Brisket Plate, I requested it fatty. True to my request, the cut of brisket was on the fatty side, tender, flavorful, and savory! The sides of pickles and cornbread, while not mind-blowing, were very good! The plate also came with some pickled veggies (onion and jalapeños), a wedge of watermelon, and a slice of Texas toast (making the cornbread extra). We decided to get the Pit Boss so we can try more of their menu offerings. The brisket was super tender, smokey, and fatty. The 3 sauces which were each described as sweet, spicy, and mustardy complimented the meats well. I particularly enjoyed the sweet one. The burnt ends were doused in sauce which made it hard to enjoy the burnt ends for what they are. It's usually a sweet, smokey, and almost candied. The sauce it was in was so overpowering that I couldn't appreciate the burnt ends for what they were. The sides were also pretty mediocre. The crinkle cut fries were fresh, salty, and crispy while the mac & cheese and cornbread were both pretty dry and lacked flavor. I liked the pickles which added a fresh, crisp contrast in taste. I could've used a lot more considering the amount of meat there was. The Add-On Wings are a must if you want to try their Famous Wings without getting a full order of them. These were smokey, juicy, sweet, tender - just a beautiful burst of flavors in every bite! This is a must-order here. No BBQ is complete without a pint of beer! We also tried the pulled bbq chicken, St. Louis ribs, cucumber salad, and the two potato salad. The interior of the restaurant is really spacious and they have many TVs with different games on. Food was very good. No doubt about the food here. Now the service and management that's a different story. No draught beers at all because the "cooler was hot" been like that for several days. Then we ordered some bottled beer and a few minutes later we were told there were only 3 brands of bottled beer available. Our order was delivered with 2 items missing. By the time our server came back to check on us we were basically done so we asked that she just take those off all together. Our server was very nice although on the slow side. Struck me as odd, 2 of the sauces were on the thicker side, but the "sweet" sauce, which I would have thought would be thicker? Nah, super thin. If you eat here, get the collard greens....they were phenomenal! The beans were different but good. The cole slaw was just meh. Nothing special. This was a really good meal in Boston. One of my favorite places for food and drinks in the area. This resturant is located in a busy district filled with different corporations. It's one of the few places that really delicious lunch that is worth the bigger price tags in the area. I got the brisket sandwich today with a side of collar green and pork belly burnt ends sandwich for a total of $31. It's also great after work because the bar is awesome.
