Initially, the plan was to get takeout and grab a spot along the Charles River (cambridge side) for the July 4 fireworks. Usually we sit in the Esplanade but we wanted to try something different. A sudden downpour and thunderstorm & evacuation of the Esplanade changed that. We ducked into Sweet Cheeks, thankful to see available tables. We weren't greeted by anyone in particular and a server told us to sit wherever. We picked our meats and sides, and the server strongly recommended the mac n cheese and the pulled pork. I understand we are spoiled by Lil Barbecue & Grasslands in Oregon, but we really didn't expect to taste such bland BBQ here. The Mac n Cheese was the best thing we ate, only because it tasted like old skool Velveeta - not sure if there's any in it but the texture and taste was like childhood. The "famous" biscuit is worth skipping. Appearance wise it looked great! But it was cold and on the dry side. We still hold out hope to find decent BBQ in Boston. We went in on Sunday night around 7:30. The place was empty except for one table so we just sat at the bar. The bartender was awesome. She was full of personality and went right into recommendations after we told her it was our first time. We started with the bucket of biscuits, and maybe it was just because it was the end of the night, but they were cool and kind of hard. I ordered the dry rub pork ribs with Cole slaw and Mac n cheese. The portions were decent with pretty good flavor. They offered three sauces all made in house which honestly were all pretty good. We started with the World-Famous buttermilk biscuit with honey butter, being for the south this was right up there with the best of the best biscuits and the honey butter was the kicker. Had to go with the fried chicken and it was a winner winner fried chicken dinner. My grandma from Georgia made iconic chicken this was close. The perfect crispy skin and juicy meat. You get four or eight pieces of perfect southern fried chicken. Being right down the road from Fenway park and having a sandwich called the Big Papi makes it a must try. Great call on this sandwich because it's out of the park goodness. Great smoked tender brisket with a tasty jalapeño cream cheese that took this the next level, add the crispy onions, pickles and pickled jalapeños for the perfect punch of flavor. The Cita's broccoli cheese casserole was lights out goodness with amazing flavor and texture. Very clean and well maintained place that welcomes everyone. We went to this place after the Sox game. Reservations were relatively easy to get. Atmosphere is casual, and the place gets busy and loud at peak hours, but it's a cool-looking spot. Our host and server were extremely nice and attentive, which really made the biggest impact on our experience. We ordered the bucket of biscuits appetizer, which is a popular item and a big standout: biscuits were fresh and warm, right out of the oven, and outstandingly good. While Sweet Cheeks Q hasn't been around for quite as long as Fenway Park, it's still an institution! The barbecue here is just plain amazing. Our table of four had 4 amazing lunches including platters with tender sliced brisket, pork belly, pulled pork and pulled chicken, and fried chicken sandwich. Everyone raved about their meals! The biscuits are amazing and someday I won't end the meal stuffed so that we can have one of theie amazing desserts. The decor is classic BBQ joint with some huge tables for groups, big TVs, plus quite a number of outside tables. The staff was pretty busy, just what you'd expect on a Saturday afternoon, plus they were dealing with internet problems, but they performed well in spite of everything. Absolutely amazing place for BBQ in the Fenway area, let alone Boston. I am in complete regret that I haven't tried this place sooner. My girlfriend and I stopped by for lunch on a Saturday without reservations, and were seated immediately. We started off the feast with some freshly baked biscuits and butter-- WOW. A must have for the table. They were so soft inside, crispy on the outside, and paired so well with the salted butter. For our entrees, we each ordered a BBQ meat and picked two sides. My girlfriend ordered the pulled chicken with potato salad and coleslaw. I ordered the St. Louis dry rub style ribs, Mac & cheese, and BBQ baked beans. The entrees were also WOW. Double WOW for the two, actually. My girlfriend's chicken was perfectly cooked and tender, and her potato salad was incredible. Some of the best I've had, comparable to the one you find at the Cape. The Coleslaw was okay objectively (though I've never been a huge fan), but was unique in its presentation, the veggies were chopped very largely. For my entree, the STL ribs were to die for, and fell off the bone seamlessly. The Mac & cheese was also great, super flavorful, cheesy, and I loved the breadcrumbs. The BBQ beans were also super great, and had chunks of pulled pork which were absolutely delicious. Should have turned around when I saw the Guy Fieri sign. I haven't been to one place recommended by him that's been good. Biscuit good but tasted like it was baked early in the day then reheated. It was hard on the edges. It was ok but not great. Plus you have to pay extra for a little cup of jam. Wtf? The brisket was recommended over the pork belly but was just ok. The worst part are the bbq sauces in the table. The brisket definitely needed some sauce but couldn't eat any of the three. There was enough for two on this plate and it could have served as a meal! I ordered the giant smoked short rib. When they say "giant" they were not kidding! LARGE mason jars of sweet tea (which were pretty tasty) and the Dolly Parton themed bathroom with a sticker machine?! Yes! Tiffani has won me over. First time to sweet cheeks. I love brisket, so have it a go here. Ordered takeout. For the brisket platter, it came out to $33.60 after taxes, before tip. While the taste was very good, the portion was lacking! I'm used to blue ribbon where you get seemingly twice as much for $10 less. Plus the to go bbq sauce was tiny. Do they really need to skimp on the sauce? I think you're paying for their premium location rather than getting a great bbq value. Have been here a few times now and have ordered with lots of stuff to share with fam, and also individual meals - first time coming here was meh, a bit pricey sadly and the sides were okay (got mac and cheese, potato salad, beans and butternut squash - I did really like this one). Second time was better - got the brisket which was super tender, and the farm salad/baked potato as sides both were delicious. The bottled sauces are also a good addition, I like to mix the small and large bbq bottles to make a medium spicy sauce. Overall I liked Sweet Cheeks! The sliced brisket was very solid, and I also got the Mac n cheese and broccoli casserole. I've never had broccoli cheese casserole like this, but I thought it was very tasty. The Mac tasted good, but it was quite liquidy and soupy which I wasn't a fan of. We also got the biscuits which are amazing--very soft and flaky with delicious honey butter. We waited over 30 minutes each time for the app to be remade and instead they literally just picked the onions off of our app and reserved it. The service was great, the appetizers were pretty decent, huge biscuits, great nachos. Now let's talk about the main attractions, the barbecue. I had the pork ribs and the brisket. This is a Texas style restaurant so the brisket should be the signature dish, but it was disappointing. It was a bit dry but lacked seasoning and smoke. I can deal with a lack of smoke, but if I have to ask for salt and pepper AND barbecue sauce, then there is an issue. The ribs did have a dry rub but it lacked salt so it was out of balance. It was better with barbecue sauce but not my favorite. I believe barbecue should stand on it's own before the sauce. The interior is pretty nice, very wide bar area, outdoor seating, and inside seating. Our bar tender was pretty nice and made us some good dirty Shirley's. For food, we got wings and Mac and cheese. It's strange that you can't do a mix and match of the wing flavors. Most wing places I've been to allows a mix and match. The wings were crispy and juicy. The Mac and cheese was very heavy on the mustardy taste but it was still very good. The bread crumbs are always a nice addition. I hurried home to lie down as honestly felt sick and assuming the overcooked egg rolls with minimal ingredients with nasty sauce started me off bad. This place is super cozy and we got seated right away. It allows for big groups and you can make reservations easily online. I heard so much about this place and was super excited to try it. I will definitely be back! 1. TEXAS NACHOS (10/10): This was so good as an app to share for the table. it was large and instead of chips it came with potatoes. We also got pulled pork as the meat. It was delicious. 2. Bucket o' biscuits (9/10): Loved the butter that came with the biscuits. They were so soft and big. For our entrees, I ordered a chicken tray with coleslaw and potato salad and my girlfriend went with ribs, mac and cheese, and baked beans. We were trying one another's plates left and right -- the ribs fell right off the bone, the mac and cheese was PERFECT, and the beans had a unique touch of pulled pork directly inside! We both loved the pickles, and my potato salad and chicken, too - the three sauces complemented everything beautifully. You have your choice of a vinegar-based sauce, a spicier, or a tangier sauce. My favorites were the first and third options, my girlfriend loved the second. The coleslaw was also super good, I prefer my coleslaw shredded versus chopped but that was honestly just personal preference. Everything is great. Well, they totally hit it out of the park, tonight!! The BBQ is just fantastic and the hot & cold sides also stellar. The meats are all quality and perfectly done. Even the salads are a hearty satisfying meal in themselves. The farm salad which I love in summer, changes with the seasons. Today's "big farm salad" included smoked chicken breast. I detest dark meat, so that's just perfect for me. When I received it, it was all dark meat. Yuck!! I asked the waitress who said it is a shredded mix. No way! I showed her the menu stated specifically "breast", but all the meat I received was dark. Well, she gave me a brand new second salad, all white meat!! (Served with a smile) WOW! I came to Sweet Cheeks craving a biscuit and after seeing raving reviews for their "World Famous Biscuits" I thought my craving would be satisfied, but sadly it was not. When the biscuit arrived, I was first struck by how pale / not browned it look, it was barely warm. Only the very top cap and bottom flat surface were mildly browned and crispy with some flavor - the inside of the biscuit had no nostalgic buttermilk flavor at all! It looked and tasted like a tall bread rather than a flaky buttery biscuit. The poop-shaped honey butter was also severely lacking flavor, it didn't taste like butter or honey, if only there was some flaky salt on the side that would have solved something! 1/5 The brisket was pretty standard, nothing extraordinary, and got cold and dry quite quickly as we sat outside. I did enjoy the farmhouse salad, refreshing, well dressed, and many non-lettuce components (and I learned hazelnuts are delicious with watermelon)! The broccoli casserole was a pile of comforting mush, but even as a mush lover myself, I would have hoped the ritz cracker topping would be crunchy, but it was soggy. 3.5/5 The Motherclucker sandwich was massively long! It's filled with chopped chicken tenders, which were so heavily sauced in the pimento cheese that it wasn't crispy anymore and you couldn't distinguish it from the smoked chicken as being fried. I did appreciate how well the bread held together structurally throughout the eating experience even though it was soooo filled. 3/5 Overall, I guess Sweet Cheeks is a good choice if you want a decent portion of food but I am confused by the whole "world famous" biscuit situation. My family came into Boston for a show at the opera house and I made a reservation for 5:45. Which I thought would be plenty of time for the show at 8. It took an hour for our food to come out. The food itself was really good. I had the pulled pork sandwich with Mac and cheese and I really enjoyed both of them. We also had gotten biscuits for the table and the butter was delicious. Our server did not like us and she made that very clear. I think she came over to our table 3 times within the 2 hours we were there. We had to go ask the host for to go boxes and napkins because she would not come back over to the table. We needed to leave as it was approaching the time for our show. We tried to get her attention and she looked at us and continued to ignore us. We had to ask the person cleaning off our table to get our check. The order was nicely packaged but check your bag for utensils and condiments because there weren't any, so we had to go back in and ask. We got a bucket of biscuits with honey butter-- these were perfection! Really good quality, tall and fluffy! I had a Cuban sandwich-- great flavor, light smokey touch on the meats. My side was the watermelon salad. This was not a "salad"-- I expected chunks of watermelon, instead it was a wedge with feta, cilantro and mint on top -- did not care for this preparation. Hubs and neighbor got the pulled pork sandwiches-- good amount of meat, def add some sauce! We also shared a 4 piece fried chicken-- I ordered Spicy-- I expected the spice to be in the breading but instead it was sprinkled on top.
