Steak Tips and Mash are like no where else. My husband got the shepards pie and he said it was just as good as that place in Squantum. Best poured pint of the G. The energy is clean and happy. So I've been to the snug many times and it's always been great so I convinced my folks to go there with me. The waitress was horrible. People next to us ordered after us but somehow got their food before us (different waitress). When we finally got our food the chowder was lukewarm at best ditto for the chicken quesadilla (thx Ashleigh because I've no doubt it was ready but just sitting waiting for her to bring it out). Great beer selection and food....quaint and intimate. We had the pretzel to start and the homemade Guinness sauce was awesome. I had the Shepherds Pie and girlfriend had the fish and chips.....both were solid recipes. Atmosphere was extremely welcoming! We were with friends who have a toddler and the woman I've read about in negative reviews came over......and couldn't have been SWEETER!! She made sure we had everything we needed (two different times) and was a supreme host! Lovely..... The other wait staff were overly accommodating.... not just to us but, to all the other tables as well.....above and beyond I'm not from the northeast but will definitely come back to The Snug and recommend to all.... read more

My wife, daughter and I went here for a late lunch today. This place is pretty "snug" in the amount of space it offers, but the food is terrific. The reuben was about the best I've ever had, and the short ribs we got literally slid off the bone with how tender and well cooked they were. We will definitely return if we make it back to Hingham. read more

This had a great pub atmosphere. The food is good and the staff pay attention to what customers may need. Especially welcome was their authentic Irish music. Very experienced local residents and younger players participate in producing a live music experience which is not common anywhere else nearby. The furnishings fit the pub atmosphere. It must be close to fall because we were back at the Snug the other night to sit at the bar and have a couple of beers. For some reason, we only come here in the fall and winter. As teeny tiny as the place is, and me with claustrophobia and being forced by space issues to sit cheek to jowl with other patrons, I still really like it here. Go figure. We mostly pop in for a couple of beers at the bar but we have had both lunch and dinner here on occasion. The food is good although I mainly stick to fish and chips. People rave about the steak tips, shepard's pie and burgers.. Typical pub fare for the most part. The website will give you the details on the entertainment they have most nights...We've heard some great music here. Everyone gets into the spirit of things with one another likely brought on by the small quarters where strangers end up friends pretty quickly. You kind of end up chatting it up with everyone. Even if you have to stand because there are no more seats it's still fun; maybe even more fun actually. They pour a perfect and luscious Guinness too. I think they still have traditional Irish session music on Monday nights. Bring your fiddle or bodhran and you can join in. The Snug makes for a fun time. Have been to the Snug for dinner a couple of times and it was a bad idea, both times. This just isn't really a place to go for dinner. It's a bar. It's a great place to go for a pint. Breakfast is ok here. I usually get an omelette. I notice that I gave it 4 stars a while ago, but I'm dropping it to 3. The last time I was there for breakfast I was told that the chef was on vacation so the owner was cooking. I think maybe the owner should stick to owning. read more

*This review is for the bar only* Came here on a Saturday evening around 7 with a group of 9 people to have a few drinks at the bar (was not impressed with the selection of beer/liquor - just your standard stuff). Upon entering the establishment, I noticed that the place itself was packed to the seam! The bar was especially packed and the whole place was really loud! Have I mentioned that this place was TINY?! Luckily for us, 4 patrons left the bar and our group took over. The bartenders were awesome! Service was fast and friendly. Here's where it all ended for us, within 10 minutes into standing and drinking, the hostess (older lady with shoulder length dark hair) approached our group and told some of our group to quiet down. You literally can't talk with your inside voice at this place, the whole place was extremely loud. What didn't go well with our group was to be told and reprimanded in a manner like we were 4 year-old was definitely not cool. You can imagine how well that went over with everyone. We immediately took our money elsewhere and vacated this place. Tip for those that have any group larger than 4 people that's seeking to have a merry o' good time, skip it. Tip for the hostess - you can certainly brush up on your people skill Tip for the owner - maybe reconsider your establish name from The Snug to THE SNUB! read more

Simple pub style food done well. The Snug, was as the name suggests, snug. Tables are close enough that I could pick off the plate of the neighboring two top. Self proclaimed home of the perfect Guinness pour, we happily obliged with a pint. We had the pretzels with Guinness mustard sauce. The sauce was potent, heavy on the mustard seeds, and onto trace of beer was effectively masked. I had the Cape Cod reuben and the boy had the sirloin tips. The sandwich was fried haddock with Swiss cheese, Russian dressing and coleslaw on a bulkie roll. Sirloin tips were cooked to temperature, nicely charred in a flavorful marinade. Portions were plentiful and we found the table next to ours throwing in the towel early to save room for dessert. Solid choice for an easy night out. We'll be back! read more

This is one small pub! I had a couple of proper pints of Guinness at the bar (seats about eight), then decided to stay for dinner. Although I am not a steak fan, I tried the steak tips, fries and cole slaw. I am still not a steak fan. I found the tips a bit chewy and stringy. In their defense, I did order them medium well. I was wondering why they claimed to be an Irish Pub when I arrived at 4:00 on a Sunday Afternoon (NFL on TV and no Irish music). But the 5:00 pm shift change brought in new staff who cranked up the Irish Music. The place got really loud around 6:00 pm when it started to fill up. The Craic improved although it was hard to hear conversations. The staff is nice--even friendly once you open up to them, and the regulars were fun to chat with. I'll definitely stop back in when I am again in town. But I'll probably try the fish. read more

This place is aptly named. The bar itself is very handsome, and the area near it is neither so large as to feel cavernous nor so small as to feel cramped. It is, well, snug -- very cozy, and conducive to conversation. There are many fine beers on tap, from pale ales and IPAs to brown ales and wheat beers. Something for every palate, both domestic and imported. The dining/seating area is comfortable as well, and while I have not yet eaten here, the atmosphere is great for watching live music on the weekend. The Snug... I'm not sure if they came up with the name due to it being snugly and home-like or the mere fact that fitting more than 10 people in there is a snug fit. Anyhow, no matter which way you slice it, it's a great place for a pint or two (or maybe three). I'd steer clear of the Greek Salad (which I find an odd choice to be served at an Irish Pub anyway). The salads in general have large portions of lettuce, but lack substance in other ingredients. Stay with the warm, yummy pub food and you'll love it. Try the Shepherd's Pie... just like Grandma used to make. The place is jammed on Monday nights for their traditional Irish sessiun (yes, I spelled that correctly) and is a great time to be had by all. I particularly enjoy the quaint, old feel of the pub, the bar and the building in general. There aren't many places where you get the distinct feeling you're walking downhill in places (especially on the way to the restroom)... on second thought, maybe it was the three Magners. read more

Our first visit to The Snug on an August Monday early evening/Late Afternoon @ 4:30pm with hungry kids in tow. A small local Irish type bar in Hingham surrounded by outdated wood work for walls and floors, dim lighting with wobbly tables and chairs (part of the charm one may say) There were no active waitresses on duty yet....but the female bartender was very attentive as we sat ourselves. The bar itself was small and pretty much all stools at the bar were taken by what seemed to be....local neighborhood patrons getting off work. Nacho's were basic with no guac. and to go containers filled with sour cream and salsa. Burgers were Generous, cooked perfectly, fries and onion rings Fantastic! Pinot Grigio was warm and acidic at best, tap beer cold and basic. Water refills were plenty and food was quick from ordering time to arrival at our table. By the time we were leaving there was an acoustic guitar player setting up in the corner for live music. I just can not imagine how cramped this place must get on a busy weekend night with live music....the thought of trying to eat a meal at one of the small wobbly tables with folks packed in like sardines seems like a nightmare to many yet perfection for those who enjoy slinging back a few cocktails and appetizers who enjoy that type of Packed Subway Atmosphere.....(FYI for those busy nights.....only one stall restrooms) read more

The Snug is just that. A snug, comfortable, small, cozy space that makes you feel like you haven't ventured further than your living room. Yellow walls covered in plaques and awards, small screens tucked into the corners showing the requisite sporting events, and piped in Sinatra on a Sunday...the first thing JT said was, "this will be a great spot to come in the winter." Amen to that. The Snug also features a surprising craft beer list on a European draft system (Taffer would be proud). You could tell the pours were going to be at the correct temperature just by looking at the slight frost on the draft tower. Not just your typical Guiness here (though if that's what you're looking for, they have their Gold Standard Award from Guiness!). We started with a special - the Patriots Pick: fries, mini tacos and jalapeno mozzarella sticks. Truth be told, we just wanted to try those jalapeno mozz sticks! They were good, but not something we'd order again. It was pure novelty that particular order...so now we can say we tried it. JT ordered the Turkey BLT wrap and sweet potato fries and I ordered the Traditional Turkey Club. Both were awesome. And the sweet potato fries were excellent. We agreed that, based on lunch alone, we would be coming back to try other items off the menu. The food was made very well, the service was excellent, plus the prices aren't outrageous and with the selection of beers on tap...The Snug is going to be a staple in our local restaurant rotation. read more

Five stars for that funky mirror that I wish I'd thought of. They took broken Belleek cups and china, broken strings of pearls and jewlery and the like and just kind of collaged it onto a frame and it really looks cool. My cats have broken just about everything Belleek I've ever owned. Why didn't I think of such a clever idea? Excellent hamburgers, and they play lots of Van Morrison. The snug is everything a pub should be. Comfy, very good food and they know how to pull a pint. When I walked in on a rainy day and heard 'Into the Mystic" playing I was immediately hooked. We took our mom here for lunch on a trip home. The waitress was very quick to greet us and friendly throughout. We all ordered the Guinness burger which had swiss, grilled onions and bacon topped with a Guinness barbecue sauce. Delicious. The fries were just meh. They have Irish sessions here every Monday night and I wish we could have checked that out because from what I've heard they are great fun. If I lived in this area, I would be here all the time. read more

Meh. Servers are nice here but it's just a run of the mill Irish tavern. It's in one of those centuries old buildings in Hingham center but somehow lacks all of the charm usually accompanying those buildings. Place is dirty and very outdated. I did know all this walking in and came specifically in search of fish n' chips. They were just okay. Fries were fine but just not my style. Some of the fish was good and some of it was very poorly executed and obviously rushed since the batter was thin and perfectly golden in some places and on others it was caked so thick that you got batter dust (not sure what else to call it) when biting into it. The portion is massive. Got about six pieces of fish for $20. Both my girlfriend and I ordered the same thing and it was only lunch so I would've appreciated a heads up about the size and we could've split one and a small app. Slaw and tartar sauce are predictably from a massive plastic jug. Oh well, not mad but I won't be back. read more

this place is one of my favorites! Such a great little Irish pub (i'm a bit biased toward Irish pubs!). Its very comfortable, friendly and unpretentious (unpretentious is harder and harder to find in Hingham - sadly). Great beer selection and the food really is quite good - for lunch and dinner. The shepards pie is fantastic and so are the steak tips. The Guinness is ALWAYS the perfect temperature... Agreed with the other reviews - this place gets NOISY when a band is playing - which is ok to, but maybe not while you try to eat dinner.... read more

Real pubs in the US are hard to come by, but The Sung is the closest thing possible. Warm and friendly service, regular crowds, and fun live music occasionally. Most importantly, it is one of the few places that know how to properly pour a Guinness. Went for breakfast once, wasn't that impressed. I've had dinner there, and steak tips are the only thing worth your time. I would recommend this place for a proper pint. read more

I grew up in hingham and have come to the snug many times with family and friends. The food is amazing and I have always had a great experience. Unfortunately I went there last night for Saint Patrick's day and the female manager Jeannie? was extremely rude to my cousin and myself for no reason. From the moment we walked in to when we left, she was rude to us and made it seem like we were the reason they were so crowded and crazy. Our waitress was very nice and even apologized for her being so rude to us, when we had done nothing wrong but be respectful and have fun along with every other customer in the restaurant. I was extremely disappointed by having my Saint Patrick's day ruined by a manager of a place I have grown up coming to and do not want to return to because of her. read more

Went last weekend for the first time and was thoroughly impressed. Best onion rings I've ever had, the honey hots were also delish. Everyone in my party of four really enjoyed our food. The only complaint I have was it is very small and the hostesses sat people who had definitely came in after us and incomplete parties which is annoying. Regardless, I will absolutely be back for the delicious and well priced food!!!! read more

The Snug is a small, friendly Irish Pub in Hingham center. There are two especially good reasons to visit here. One is the cool European Draft Beer System, the other, better reason, is the Irish session that takes place every Monday from 5:30-8:30. We stopped by while looking at an open house in the area for lunch. It has a very warm atmosphere as most Irish pub restaurants do. It's pretty small. They actually seemed to have a good amount of awards on the wall. The staff was friendly and attentive. I took some Yelp advice and got the Shepards Pie. It was excellent. Not too runny, not thick. Taste was great. I highly recommend it unless your looking for something light. My fiance got the Snug salad with turkey tips. She enjoyed it. Not too expensive. I would recommend! read more

I've been coming here off/on for the last 10 years, it's always been good. Tonight my hubs and I went for an early dinner w/the minions. We ordered the buffalo chicken wings extra crispy. Only half were crispy - I guess that saved us from devouring them b/c the crispy ones were good. I ordered the fish sandwich and it was very good - fried perfectly and it wasn't heavy or greasy. Only draw back - I like more than one measly piece of lettuce on my sandwiches and had to ask for more. The tartar sauce was lacking in relish and kind of runny. My husband had the cheeseburger club - and became part of the clean plate club. My 8 year old ordered the meatloaf - it's a huge portion, he took a few bites and was done but he shared and let us try it - it was good. My 4 year old had a grilled cheese - it's hard to screw that up. Overall - I wish they had a french onion soup on the menu - it's cozy in there and makes me want french onion soup but they don't have it on the menu. The salads are sparse in veggies - lots o'lettuce (that must be why they skimped on my sandwich!) but too few on the veg. read more

My husband and I are visiting Boston for the first time and staying in the Hingham area. We have been here four days so far and have been to The Snug twice already! Went here Saturday night on what is a very rare night out. There was a short wait for a table for dinner but bar service while we waited was immediate. Ordered fish and chips and asked if they had gravy which they didn't. But when my food came, our waitress Darcy, took it on herself to give me a serving of beef stew gravy in its place. We just experienced the most frustrating and ultimately insulting experience at The Snug. After quite a long wait for lunch, we noticed that a table which was seated long after ours received their order. Fifteen minutes later (at this point at least 45 minutes waiting) we saw our waitress speak to another server who then came over to tell us that our order never went in. My finance voiced her disappointment, I received an eye roll from the server and then we were told our beer would be comped and we could leave. EXTREMELY disrespectful.
