I work in Bothell and Cody works in downtown Seattle, so we had to take time away from work just to come by. I thought we got great service at first from sales associate Sara. But there has been zero follow up. We went in looking for an engagement ring and wedding band. We brought in Cody's mom's old ring to see if we can reuse the diamonds in it for a new setting. Sara even took all the measurements of the diamonds. I tried on a few bands, told her what we were looking for and she said she will do her research and contact us with what she finds. Cody and I don't know much about pricing, cost of diamonds, and just rings in general. So we mentioned we wanted to keep it around a certain price, and she said ok. But now I feel like we might have given too low of a price hence why there's been no follow up? If so though, she should have educated us more about the stone cost while we were in the store. She took down both our names and phone numbers, asked if she could text us, and we said yes. No follow through whatsoever. We really wanted to buy from a local jeweler and support local business. But apparently they don't want our business. We stopped by here on Friday 7/12 btw, its been over 2 weeks, so we have given them plenty of time to contact us.

When she came home, she told me about this little shop on 5th with this really nice fellow that KNOWS ALOT about gems and such. He did give her an estimate of the repair and explained the issues clearly. I then decided to up the anty and surprise her with a bigger diamond, so I snuck down and met with Brent. He showed me three different options and clearly explained the different grades, handing out a very gentle re-education to loose stones. I had an absolutely extraordinary experience here today. SUPERB customer service. SUBERB. I came…read morein with a watch bought on Etsy. A "refurbished" Seiko Alpinist. $188.00, $50 in shipping, $34 in tariff fees, (thank you very little you know who). I knew it was a gamble. It gained four or five minutes per hour. I hoped an adjustment or some work could at least make the watch serviceable. Walked into ARC, no appointment. Kelsy greeted me, directed me to Masami, who stopped his work to look at my watch, he politely identified it as a counterfeit, and said he would adjust the watch (NO CHARGE) to make it as good as it could be. "Would you mind waiting 15 minutes, sir?" What, really?! While Masami adjusted my Fakeo, Kelsy showed me about ten watches that I liked, (an hour), answered my questions, had great acumen, demeanor, and professional poise without projecting attitude or qualifying me, treated me like I was the only one in the store, and confirmed a thing or two she wasn't 100% sure of. Excellent. I don't trust anyone who claims to know everything. I wound up buying a beautiful and very reasonably priced (less than $350 out the door) Seiko and identified another that I will buy in the future. IT GETS BETTER! I asked Masami if installing new guts in my Fakeo would be a good idea, as I don't care about the status, I just like the looks of the watch and want it to keep time. He said he could do that, gave me an estimate, and said that just buying the authentic model would be a better financial path for the long term. I agreed. Always buy the best quality you can afford. Also, as I was checking out, I saw a watch that was beautiful, but redundant, with respect to my purchase, and as I asked a question about the band, Kelsy, being honest, wasn't quite positive about the answer... So one of the store owners, overhearing, (sorry I cannot recall her name and spelling), came over and explained the details to answer my question! AND she interrupted an in person interview to do so! AMAZING. So, the price of an education in a field where money can chase unlimited ends was, for me, a value and a lesson learned for not a disasterous price. And, I found a business that I can TRUST, and recommend. Readers, this is where you should take your watch, engraving and timepiece repair needs. Sam at Arc Watch Works is an absolute legend. I wanted to modify my Casio Duro and called just…read moreabout every place from Seattle to Lynwood, they were the only ones to take on the job. The parts I supplied were not perfect and Sam was able to modify them so I could end up with my desired end goal. Removing the bezel from the duro is notoriously difficult, and some say impossible without damage to the watch but he was able to complete it (old bezel was bent but that's expected). Very happy to recommend their workshop but please call ahead to see if they are willing to accept the request.

Wow.... I've been going to Alexanders Bead Bazaar for years and was really surprised at the…read morenegative comments. I wish we had an Alexanders on the South End and I really dreamed about the store when I lived back East for 3 years! I could not find any stores with decent prices. Trust me when I tell you that Alexanders is heads above their competition - and not just in the NW. When I lived in Seattle ABB used to be the place I wanted to shop more than any other store, and have recommended it to at least a dozen beaders. Even when I taught classes at a different store. They beat out Bead World which is too expensive and predictable in their bead selections. Glad some of y'all have deeper pockets than I do to shop at BW. If you have a business license you want to get signed up to save moreat ABB where you have to have a minimum sale of $20 to qualify for the discount, which is easy to do. ABB's goal is to find moderate priced items for the Scottish souls, which I admire. Even their rough gem strands for $3 that I put into some of my more eclectic work. They have a lovely selection of $3 pearl strands too. Occasionally markdowns on $1 strands that I scarfed up and wish I'd bought more. And I l-o-v-e the 25 cent charms. Such fun! I over-do those every time. But once I overbought something and they kindly reimbursed me. No hassles, and no telling me it had to be store credit, which would be okay too. (unless the customer was POd) As for staff - I have enjoyed talking to the owners over the years, Sam is passionate about being able to give a good deal for those of us who are thrifty beaders, but they also have the high-end gems on strings that I enjoy just gazing at and dreaming of what I could make. You know that 'zen' state you go into while gazing at beads? And I actually broke down and bought a couple of the pricey ones at different times. They also put half price sales on those unique and expensive beads - so you need to keep an eye out. ABB is certainly more accessible than gem shows all year long - and I need to feel the bead so I get a 'feel' for the texture and colors of my designs - cannot do that with Fire Mountain, which often disappoints me when I receive my orders. Scrawny beads for supposedly cheap prices. (rolling eyes) I go to most of the gem shows around the NW and in Oregon, Texas and Ohio... and still enjoy going back to Alexanders to see what Sam Savar has managed to dig up in his travels. One of the owners is a wonderful beader and teaches classes. Their artwork and fine beading examples are around the store to peruse, and they don't panic that you might want to know how something is done - ergo, 'copy' their beadwork. So check out their website and blog - get on ther mailing list so you know when the sales are coming up. Only staff negative I can think of - sometimes the ABB clerks talk about things that are too personal, and not related to beading, and it is a small store so you can hear everything. Their lack of professionalism disturbed me once or twice, but overall I don't see it as a reflection of the store or the owners. I also had help when I asked for it, and they let me browse - and visualize - to my heart's content from the moment I walk in the door and pick up a basket - showing my ABB shopping savvy. Otherwise they'll ask if you want a basket. The only thing that really bothers me is that they are not open on Mondays. Seems that every time I go visit my family North of Seattle for a weekend and come back by Alexanders they are not open. I even went by bus one day taking an hour trip just to find them closed. Frustrating. I wish they would change that. I was serious when I offered to work there just on Mondays. LOL! Owner suggestions - besides opening on Mondays - please seriously consider moving the cash register about five feet closer to the door so they can see the front door better, and relate to incoming and outgoing clients so the clients feel more connected. Why not have a Suggestion Box so one could make proactive comments privately, or request different items? One could sign up for the mailing list there too.
