Tonight we made our way to The Social Goat in Covington, Georgia. Before we even get to the food, this is the kind of restaurant that has a personality all its own. Goat-themed artwork is scattered throughout the restaurant, including some fun paintings that immediately caught our attention. The atmosphere feels more like a cozy tavern than a traditional taco restaurant, with dark wood, booths, and a comfortable setting that invites you to settle in and stay awhile. One interesting piece of local history is the building itself. We learned that in 1906, this building housed an antique market. Think about that for a moment. If someone was selling antiques here in 1906, some of those "antiques" might have been from the 1800s. More than a century later, the building is still serving visitors, although these days the focus is tacos rather than antiques. Covington itself is worth mentioning. The city has become known as Georgia's Hollywood of the South, with more than 100 movies and television productions filmed here over the years. Fans of The Vampire Diaries and Sweet Magnolias will recognize many locations around town. If you're visiting the area, there is plenty to see before or after dinner. Our server for the evening was Jordan, who provided friendly service throughout the meal. The menu features eleven different taco varieties, which immediately created a dilemma. Narrowing the choices down to just three was not easy. We ultimately chose the Fried Fish Taco, the Philly Taco, and the Sesame Ribeye Taco. The tacos are available as a trio, allowing you to sample three different varieties on one platter. The meal also came with chips, salsa, and queso, making it easy to share and compare flavors. Let's start with the Fried Fish Taco because it ended up being my favorite of the three. The fish itself had excellent flavor and was cooked just right. The taco was topped with a sauce that brought a unique flavor to the experience, and the crunchy slaw added texture that worked beautifully with the fish. Every component contributed something to the overall bite. This was the taco that surprised me the most and ultimately earned the top spot in my personal ranking. The Philly Taco finished a very close second. If you're a fan of Philly cheesesteaks, you'll immediately understand the appeal. Loaded with shaved ribeye, peppers, onions, and cheese, it delivered exactly the flavors I was hoping for. It was rich, satisfying, and packed with flavor. Sometimes simple combinations work for a reason, and this taco proved that point. The Sesame Ribeye Taco was the most unique of the three. The sesame-soy flavor was bold and immediately noticeable. I enjoyed the flavor profile and appreciated that it took the taco in a different direction than what I typically experience. Rather than trying to imitate a traditional taco, it offered something distinct and memorable. Anyone looking for a creative twist on a taco will likely find this one especially interesting. One thing I appreciated about the trio platter was the opportunity to compare very different flavor profiles side by side. The Fried Fish Taco offered a balance of fish, sauce, and crunch. The Philly Taco delivered familiar comfort-food flavors. The Sesame Ribeye Taco brought a bold and unique flavor profile to the table. Each taco had its own personality, which made the comparison part of the fun. The chips were crisp, the salsa was fresh, and the queso provided a nice complement to the tacos. Combined with the trio platter, it was more than enough food for a satisfying meal. The Social Goat manages to be more than just a taco stop. Between the historic building, the goat-themed decor, the welcoming tavern atmosphere, and a menu filled with creative options, it offers an experience that stands out from the typical restaurant visit. This is a very spacious tavern-type restaurant in Covington Square. The place is really big with plenty of seating, and all of the staff from the hostess to the waitress were all really sweet and helpful. I started with the goat cheese pesto bruschetta for appetizers. The flavors paired well together and it was a decent size. For lunch, my friend and I shared the taco platter, which comes with 9 tacos, chips, salsa, and queso for $35. It's a great price and it was more food than we could finish. The fried shrimp tacos were the best. Shoutout to our waitress for that suggestion! They were crispy, large shrimp pieces, and flavored nicely. We also got the fried fish tacos and the ribeye tacos which were very underwhelming. Unfortunately, the entire taco platter was extremely salty. Even though we drank water throughout, we both left feeling super parched due to how salty it was. This place has potential but I'm not sure I would come back. Met friends for lunch at 1p. Parking was available but filled up by the time we left. One friend arrived early to a twenty minutes wqot. When I arrived at 1p they had just sat him at our table. I ordered the Old Man Dam which was a great pour. I had the Smokehouse Burger with fries. It was a satisfying meal burger with swiss cheese and bbq sauce. The bun held up nicely. The fries were ok. Some of them were weak and soft and some were crispy. Others in my party had the Smokehouse Burger and the Philly cheese steak. Service was attentive. The lav was clean. Food, service, value, and ambiance made for a 5-star visit. For $13 I was given 3 normal sized tacos, chips, salsa and queso! The chips were thin, crispy and warm. The queso and salsa were good and the taco were delicious. A+ Service was friendly and I enjoyed listening to karaoke and the DJ spin some music. I highly recommend the Blood Orange Margarita too! Table for 2 for dinner We have been to downtown Covington before and know there is street parking everywhere. This particular time the spots around the actual town square were taken, so we had to find an available spot on a side street. It was a short walk to The Social Goat Tavern and we entered without a reservation. A host guided us to a high-top table toward the back of the dining room. Right away, we noticed the extensive beer selection and a large menu to match. The space itself is much bigger than it appears from the outside--with sizable front and back dining areas, plus a few outdoor tables near the entrance. I also heard there's an upstairs section, but it was closed off that day for a private event. The interior had the feel of a slightly elevated dive bar-- a little dark but casual and comfortable. There was a QR code on the menu to pull up the full beer selection, but I couldn't get any phone signal inside, so the menu never loaded for me. I couldn't even do an online check in. Luckily, one of the staff came over, asked what styles of beer we liked, and mentioned that the full selection was also listed on the board behind the bar. We could also see all the taps, which helped. Wifey spotted one of her favorites--Fall Line Brewing's Daily Rind Wheat--and ordered that right away. I asked to sample a couple options and eventually landed on Glittery Eyes, a hazy IPA from Creature Comforts. Goat-themed artwork covered the walls of the interior dining room, tying in nicely with the restaurant's name. Food-wise, Wifey ordered the fried shrimp with sweet potato fries (which could've been crispier), and I went with the pulled pork tacos--which were well seasoned. As we hung out, the dining room started to fill up, and we could tell this place draws a good crowd. At one point, we noticed a few flies and gnats buzzing around--not ideal and a little distracting during dinner. One highlight: they seem to host live performers on rotation, which would be good to catch one evening. Our server, Augusta, was nice but clearly juggling a lot--it seemed like she was covering the entire bar herself. We had to flag her down to get the check. Overall, it was a decent experience. Was looking for something new to try and this place was a hit! Our waitress was so nice and had a really great vibe. My sister wanted a drink off the brunch menu, however they were no longer serving it so the bartender made her something similar and she loved it. We both got the wicked goat fries and they were my favorite. Great flavor with a nice touch of sweetness. My burger and drink were also very good. The place is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside, there's plenty of seating and it gives off really cool tavern aesthetics. I definitely want to come back to try their brunch menu and other items they serve. They also do live music and different events here and it's located right in the downtown area. We went for dinner and we had to wait, but they got us seated sooner than we expected. The restaurant was full, but not chaotic or loud. The decor was charming. The food was lackluster. Tried chicken fingers at the food truck during an Arts and Jazz event and had to go to the restaurant at get them again. They were really that good. Chicken tenders can be basic to some, but these were so crispy and juicy! The restaurant is cute and cozy. They have great specials through the week and brunch on the weekends. I kind of liked how simplistic the decor was- mostly blank walls- not a lot of unnecessary clutter on the tables and floors. And the food... did not disappoint! We ordered the taco platter with the fried shrimp, steak & Philly tacos and they were perfect! The steak was tender. The batter on the shrimp with the slaw was done right. And the Philly was a unique twist for a taco but the meat was very tender and flavorful. The platter comes with chips, salsa and queso. I am a huge fan of queso and this queso was really good- but the salsa was amazing. Better salsa than most actual Mexican food restaurants. We don't drink, but there are several adult juice box options that looked fun. This was an excellent experience and since we'll be in town another week I am sure we will be back. read more

I'm not crazy about Cracker Barrell, but the grilled chicken sandwich I recently had was infinitely better than my sandwich at Social Goat. Yeah, it photographs nicely but the chicken was dry, basically a big lump of breast on a dense roll with bacon, melted cheese, tomato and a leaf of decorative lettuce. The fries however, were a different story. Nicely seasoned, crisp and really good! T's fried shrimp po' boy was, according to him, nothing special. His coleslaw looked creamy, which it was. But it lacked oomph; little more than shredded cabbage and mayo. I was curious about Covington, the location of several popular films and tv shows. With its historic flavor and homes dating back to the Civil War, I was hoping to find a charming cafe with an interesting menu. Nope. Restaurants around the Square offer variations of the same basic bar food. We chose Social Goat because of its balcony. I'm a sucker for al fresco dining. But to tell you the truth, plastic utensils, disposable cups, a ridiculously long wait for mediocre food, and the mandatory 20% gratuity (with no waiter service!) make this place a one shot deal for me. This place is awesome, it was pretty busy so we had to wait, but once we got in we got excellent service and the food was fantastic. Even during a rush our server came to check on us multiple times and was very polite and kind, I ordered the smokehouse burger with a side of mac and cheese, I thought bbq on a burger sounded interesting but might be kind of weird, man was I wrong, they didn't overdo the bbq sauce and all the ingredients worked perfectly together, the food came out quick and was fresh and delicious, the mac and cheese didn't taste like it had been sitting under a warmer, it was so good. We went for the Dueling Pianos show on 4/11/26. The show was fabulous! The wait staff was terrible. We had a group of 12 so we weren't expecting lightning fast service. Our group arrived before the crowd yet it took 45 minutes to get drinks. Mine came even later as our waitress forgot about mine. Our appetizer orders were duplicated. As we were eating, a 2nd order of them came out. We told her we already got our appetizers. Then, everyone's main dish came out except mine and my husband's. 15 minutes later I asked and waitress asked me what we ordered and said the kitchen forgot to cook ours. This went on for another 45 minutes of me getting up, finding waitress, her telling me food was coming. I asked multiple staff if they could check on our food. Meanwhile, we saw other people's orders coming out. When our food finally came out, the waitress threw it onto the table and stomped off. A manager came to talk to us and said the delay was our fault bc we changed our order. WE DID NOT. Our waitress obviously didn't turn in our order to the kitchen. The manager made all kinds of other excuses making it look like we were impatient with a busy restaurant. She acted like we had a complicated order. It was 2 cheese burgers! We also had to hunt our waitress down to pay our tab. Nothing was comped on our bill, no apology. We've never experienced such terrible attitudes and rudeness from a restaurant before. read more

Was in the area today for my daughter's dance recital and decided to try The Social Goat based on a recommendation plus my yelper community and it did not disappoint. We were greeted and seated almost immediately upon entry. While our waitress was very professional and polite she didn't give us her name. Our drinks and food came out in record time. The food was good, great portions and well seasoned. I really enjoy the wicked goat fries which was just enough not too much therefore no waste! Our waitress did offer us to take some to go drinks but we were stuffed. Our table and benches were clean and so was the establishment. We didn't use the restroom so can't comment there. All and all great experience, we will definitely be back. Response to owner: yes we were there on 5/18 at 3pm. She was great she had on a gray sweatshirt I believe oh and she also allowed my daughters dance mate to sit with us so they could chat while the friends family sat at another table and ensured her check went to her families table and not mine. A great restaurant in Townsquare that has a good variety of delicious foods and creative cocktails. Even though they don't offer reservations we were seated fairly quickly on a busy night at a prime time. I loved the atmosphere and decor, it fits the name perfectly and is fun. Our service was spectacular. Savanna was our server and she went above and beyond to make our dining experience amazing. She was so personable, friendly and had great recommendations. For starters we got the Cheese Bites and they were a good choice to start our meal. The bites had the perfect breading and the fries had the right ratio of crunchy and soggy. For entrees we got the basic build burger, gyro tacos, bruschetta grilled chicken sandwich and the philly sandwich. The basic burger was cooked to the perfect temperature and was nice and juicy. The Gyro tacos had the authentic flavors of a traditional gyro and the lamb was very well seasoned. I personally got the bruschetta grilled chicken sandwich with the vegetable medley as the side and I highly recommend it. The sandwich was delicious and the chicken was cooked perfectly. The vegetable medley was buttery and had a smoky flavor to it I really enjoyed I t. The Philly sandwich is a good option, it's very flavorful and I highly recommend getting it with jalapeños. My daughter got the Mac and cheese off the kids menu and it was really good. Very cheesy and creamy. I would personally get it for myself. I would describe this place as bar food served in a rustic & quirky setting. Things you should know: I. PARKING Downtown Covington has street parking everywhere that's FREE. Very convenient and easy. II. SERVICE Slow. The waitress was phenomenal but it took a while for our food to come out for what it was ~ why I gave this review less stars III.
