Super cute and charming ice cream shop in College Park. They have a hot dog side, but I've never tried them. The interior looks like a classic old-school ice cream shop with limited seating. The chairs are a bit uncomfortable, so it's not conducive to sitting and chatting, but I've always been able to find a spot. The ice cream options here are yummy with lots of options. They don't have a lot of "trendy" flavors, but do offer alcoholic ice cream options, which is super fun. When we were about to check out with a $35.00 order, my daughter showed me a couple of gnats in her drink. I informed the clerk and showed him the drink. He apologized, and my daughter ordered something else: two scoops of sorbet ice cream in a cup. I ordered black cherry ice cream on a waffle cone. Draft Review: The Soda Fountain Disappointing end to a 10-year family tradition. My family has visited The Soda Fountain countless times over the past decade. My child even had their very first scoop of ice cream here. We've always loved the location, the great selection of toppings, and the quiet, inviting atmosphere. Unfortunately, today was our absolute last day visiting, and management needs to know why. While my wife, our 4-year-old, and I were sitting down to enjoy our ice cream, two families walked in (two men, three women, and two children). It was immediately clear that they either newly owned the place or were close friends with the owners. While I don't care if people serve themselves, what happened next was entirely unacceptable: almost the entire group, including the children, went behind the small counter at the same time to scoop their own ice cream and make milkshakes. Not a single person washed their hands. They touched everything from the sample spoons to the ice cream scoopers, and reached into the serving jars. The children were hovering directly over the open ice cream freezer, breathing and talking right over the food. It was incredibly unhygienic. It felt as though they had zero regard for the customers watching them--or worse, that we didn't matter because we are Black. If an owner is willing to let people walk right off the street and handle food behind the counter without any regard for sanitation, it makes me wonder what other health and safety standards are being neglected here. Having adults and small children behind a commercial food counter without washing their hands is a health hazard and just poor business tact. We will be taking our business to Kelly's Homemade Ice Cream up the street from now on. I hope the owners take this as a serious lesson and adjust immediately. read more

I have driven by this shop many times and have wanted to stop by, this was my chance! It was definitely slow season, I know this place is packed when school is in session and it's warm out. It was just me and my little one popping in for a scoop. The gentleman who was at the counter didn't acknowledge us when we came in, fine, but when I had questions seemed bothered to answer them. Too early to close on Fridays!) and ordered some of their sinfully scrumptious "adult" beverages...I had the Almond Joy with ice cream, almond liqueur, coconut, milk and chocolate syrup topped with whipped cream and my friend had the Bananas Foster made with spiced rum, banana ice cream, caramel, bananas and also topped with whipped cream. Both of these were AMAZING! The Soda Fountain is under new ownership and connects with the hot dog shop next door. I was disappointed that they close at 10 on a Friday night- there were several groups of customers who came by after 10 who would have spent lots on these shakes and all the other sundaes and ice cream floats they make by hand! Another friend with us had the coffee ice cream with fudge served in a cone and it was yummy, too. They also have VEGAN and gluten-free options which is HUGE! I've got to say, my boyfriend and I were really disappointed with our visit here. We came across town to try out "the blacklist" alcoholic milkshakes because I had read some great reviews on Yelp, but the experience was definitely underwhelming. We walked in and thought this cute location had potential, but after asking about the blacklist milkshakes, we were informed that they were out of kahlua, Irish cream, and bananas... which means that they couldn't make more than half of the items on the blacklist. I still wanted to try something, so I got the salted caramel boozy milkshake and it was not great. It was very salty and while I could see potential, it was just not quite right. I really like the idea of the boozy milkshakes, but the implementation was truly lacking. My boyfriend ended up with the brownie sundae and nothing in it was even warm (including what I assume should have been hot fudge). We both agreed this was not a place we would be returning. The Soda Fountain offers around 20 different flavors and the staff was really patient when I was trying to make my decision on flavors. I ordered the brownie sundae, you can choose up to four flavors of ice cream and I totally took advantage. I ended up with Palm Beach, which was chocolate ice cream with basically a turtle flavor of carmel walnut topping. I had basic strawberry and cookie dough. My favorite was the strawberry basil sorbet. It was so refreshing and unique. It was my puppy's first birthday, they don't really have dog ice cream but the watermelon sorbet was a good option. I went in to wash my hands and the soap dispenser was full of a verrrrry watered down soap, or at least I hope it's a form of soap. You have to do better, don't stretch out the soap. The Dog House is in the same small building so you also have the option of grabbing a meal there and afterwards taking a couple of steps to the left for some ice cream. My husband and I decided to forgo a cone and both went with a cup of snickers and coffee ice cream. Both flavors taste creamy, fresh and delicious. We loved the ice cream and will return often. This ice cream shoppe was delicious! We stopped into the other side (Doghouse Orlando) and stayed for dessert. I want to try all of the Blacklist menu, holy cow those look great! As you can see in the photo, anything on the Blacklist comes in a glass mug, so you can't take it with you, but regular milkshakes come in plastic cups you could easily walk out of the store. We stopped in on a nice Sunday afternoon. We spent the morning at aoftball game and treated ourselves to a nice cold treat.
