What an amazing new ice cream place that you can feel good about eating!!! We went in on Sunday evening and it wasn't too crowded! There is one person taking the order and one making the ice creams. The cone is literally the best cone I've ever had and they make it right there! The delicious aroma fills the air as you walk in and you know you're in for a treat! We ordered and vanilla and sprinkles for the kids, hubs got a chocolate covered strawberry and I got the peaches and cream. My peaches wasn't sweet, at all! The strawberry had a bit sweetness to it, I would love to try the chocolate next time. I like that everything is dye free and dairy free. The staff is very nice and gives suggestions. My daughter dropped her ice cream, but it fell straight on its cup bottom. We were still able to eat it, but the employee making the ice cream asked me, which I thought was very thoughtful. As someone who is lactose intolerant but loves ice cream, I was so excited to hear about Fragaria. This newly opened ice cream shop specializes in plant-based, non-dairy ice cream, mixed with real fruit. Their base ice cream is made from cocoa butter, oat milk and coconut, and comes in vanilla, chocolate or coconut. To that, you can add real fruit such as strawberries, cherries, raspberries, blueberries or bananas, and then add toppings. The toppings are fun such as pistachios, dye-free sprinkles or honeycomb toffee, that is known as hokie pokie in New Zealand. Then, you can get your ice cream in a cup or a waffle cone. The first time I went, I got vanilla base with cherries, topped with hokie pokie and melted chocolate. To make the mixed fruit ice cream, the servers put scoops of the base in their special cone like blenders, then add fruit and turn on the machines. This creates a soft serve that is then swirled into your cup or cone. The honeycomb toffee was sweet but not too sweet and crunched easily in my mouth. The melted chocolate hardened when it hits the cold ice cream and creates a nice webbed shell. I will say with so many toppings, I wasn't able to taste much of the actual ice cream. And, the bottom seemed like it didn't mix well so was just vanilla. The next time I went, I got the berries (strawberries and raspberries) with vanilla base in a cup with just melted chocolate. I felt I was able to taste the sweetness of the strawberry with the tartness of the raspberry better this way. Also, I appreciated that the server decided to run my ice cream through the cone blender again as she noticed that some of the fruit didn't mix in all the way. What a cool & unique concept! I've never had ice cream like this before. You pick a type of ice cream and then you can pick up to three fruits to mix with it. My boyfriend got guava sauce on his and I would most definitely do that next role because it was delicious. They also had a bunch of cool toppings and some unique seasonal menu options such as an adaptation of a pineapple upside down cake that I would be interested in trying. New Zealand Ice cream has alwyas been one of my top tier soft serve spots because of how it's prepared. They are so difficult to find around Orlando , but really glad I got to stop by and try some of their delicious signatures and fruit infused ice cream ! Stopped by Fragaria and immediately saw the sign stating "Better than soft serve" painted on the windows. Described as a New Zealand ice cream concept restaurant, and upon entry they have nice visuals and choices on the screens. You can't see the ice cream options but we asked for explanations and the young lady working the register was super-sweet and polite and offered great explanations. Because we could not really see the ice cream choices it made it hard to know if we should build our own or pick one of the monthly favorites off the board. The cup sizes are kids, regular and cone. The cones are in the visual and appear to be giant, so much so that I thought we might need to split one. We opted for their favorite options. It was explained that the ice cream would be mixed with fresh fruit to order. I got the chocolate strawberry which had a vanilla base. I got a kid cone, and it was T-I-N-Y. My grown boys got regular and theirs was bite-sized as well. We expected larger portions for $7- $10 a cone. It was the flavor that surprised us. The chocolate was pretty good but the strawberry was less than sweet. It was a little bitter and tasted like it had no sugar in it. Maybe I accidentally ordered sugar-free? My husband ordered the chocolate strawberry option and the photos show it drizzled in chocolate but his was barely visible. He had to ask for more chocolate. Welcome to Maitland! "Better than soft serve" per my son. We will definitely be back. The ice cream was so smooth, buttery and delicious! The flavor was spot on! As a family we ordered the strawberry kiddy cup, a regular chocolate covered strawberry cup, a regular Berry Pistachio Crunch and a regular Triple Choco Banana. I would get each one again but the raspberry ice cream was the best and I would get that just on its own. If you are looking for something different to beat the Florida heat than this is the ice cream for you. The soft serve is actually blended with fruits or other toppings of your choice. The machines that do the mixing are fun to watch and you can see all the action from behind the counter. I loved the seasonal flavors that they offer. I went for the traditional pistachio chocolate in a waffle cone and a spicy mango in a cup to see the difference. Very tasty ice cream but a bit high on the price point for the size you get. You're paying for that fun little show. They also use KOS coffee which is a fantastic brand and that was absolutely delicious with the ice cream. A perfect match. Ran across this food truck tonite at Lake Eola's Merry Market, and decided that it was the universe telling me that it was time to taste "New Zealand Ice Cream". The nice gentleman said that the berry combo was the most popular flavor, so why not. Now, I was leaning towards cherry, and maybe should have gone with that, because blackberries and raspberries aren't really my fave. The fun thing about low expectations is how easy it is to beat them, and I liked this way more than I expected. What I liked most was actually a teeny bit of the plain non-dairy ice cream base that was hiding under all the berry infused parts. I would definitely eat the "plain" - there are hints of the ingredient flavors that put it a solid step above plain old vanilla. We got here around 12:20 and were upset they don't open till 1pm on Saturday so we drove around for a bit and waited. A few mins before 1, there were a few other people who walked up and it was busy just like that! They make each one individually and it melts pretty quickly so don't worry about waiting for anyone else! I love the choices they had so I got one of those, but you can also build your own. 3.5 stars - I saw the signs of the soft opening but was never really in a good way to turn into the mini mall area until today. Went in, was greeted and took a look at the offerings. I decided to go with a cup of vanilla with blueberries swirl ($7.46) with not additional add ons since I wanted to taste it. The ice cream was intensely blue which was cute, small bits of blueberry skin came through and there were one or two bits of sugar which was frozen too. Flavorwise, it was a nice treat with a smooth creaminess to the plant based ice cream. The area had six tables inside and three benches outside, it was a cozy little shop. Fragaria is a really interesting concept combining non-dairy ice cream and fruit with a unique process. The whole experience felt exciting and it's cool to see some innovation on ice cream. We did visit during the soft open, so potentially they were still working out kinks, but our ice cream was not properly mixed with half of it being super sour/fruity and half having no fruit at all. They also only have the ability to make two ice creams at a time, with each taking some time to press through the machine. Makes the line go very slow during a peak time, as they're simply limited to how many they can make. The space itself is very nice and updated, with a decent amount of seating. Parking lot is not busy in the evening as it's the only business open later. Overall, I love seeing new and unique concepts coming to Orlando, but for a $9 ice cream I probably won't be frequenting here. read more

Found Fragaria on the lawn of the Florida Fringe Festival this past year. It was super hot out there, so seeking out a cool, refreshing treat was bound to happen. We saw this place, had never heard of New Zealand ice cream, so of course we had to try this novel, new concept. I forget exactly what we ordered, I think it was just their signature offering, and man, it was so delicious. The berries were so wonderfully integrated into the ice cream, and it was natural, not berry extract with extra sugar, so it was subtle, not in your face. Just lovely.
