I went solar with Barnes Solar, Inc. in 2021. My contract promised a 25-year service warranty and 25-year workmanship warranty, covering both parts and labor. The contract clearly says service calls and repairs will be handled at no charge. After Barnes was sold, bought by "LA Solar Group", two of my Enphase inverters failed. The manufacturer provided the replacement part, with the help of "LA solar Group", but the new company "LA Solar Group" refused to cover the labor, even though my contract says otherwise. They told me they would not grant "Barnes Solar, Inc." warranties and labor wasn't included -- which is simply false. A cost of $650.- for the visit. This leaves customers like me stuck with bills for repairs that should be covered for decades. It seems the new company "La Solar Group" took over Barnes's customers but not the warranty obligations. If you bought from Barnes Solar, know that your 25-year warranty may not actually be honored. I'll be possibly filing complaints with the CSLB and considering small claims to enforce my rights. Update- I have resolved my issue regarding Service Warranty with LA Solar. They have made me a LA Solar Customer. I have had a SolarEdge EV Charger commissioned by LA Solar. I reached out to Barnes Solar to get a quote for my townhome. I ended up speaking with Mike and he was fantastic in reviewing the entire process, pricing, warranty, etc... He provided an initial quote based on a Google Earth view of our roof, then sent out an installer to get an exact measurement of how many panels we could fit and what percentage of our electric bill the solar system would offset. The pricing was great and Mike worked closely with our HOA as we were going to be the first owners in our community to add solar, so we had to follow / create the CC&Rs to include solar. Unfortunately, due to the design of our roof and the requirements of panel placements not being allowed to be too close to property lines or roof pitch changes, we were not able to design a system that would offset enough of our electric bill. Instead of pushing me to still buy the system, Mike was honest and straightforward and agreed that it might not be the best time for us to add solar. As of right now, the panels are I believe 400kwh each? ...once they become more efficient, we may be able to generate more power with less panels and pursue this again. If we end up moving to a place that has a better roof design, we will definitely go back to Barnes Solar to have them build out a system for us!! Thanks!! Eric & Jen read more

I've been looking into solar for about 8 months before I chose BARNES. I didn't know anything about solar going in. So just started making calls. After calling the first company, the salesman smelt me right off the bat. Came over reeking of the 1st class business model, "how to drill it in deep to customers." With his pressed shirt and his brief case, he came in like his shit didn't stink. He was so tuned in to his own bull shit. How he was the best, best panels, best inverters, how nobody else had warranties, nobody else installs the way they do. He was so pushy. Tried to have me sign his contract right there. After telling him no, I'm gonna get another estimate first. He then tried saying I only had till tomorrow for his price. Whatever dude. That guy got walked right out. After that, he kept calling... and calling... and texting... and calling... And texting... Non-stop. It was so bad, he actually put me off looking for a while. Ok, finally I got over it. Did a lot of research and made more calls. More quotes. Six of them in total. When I got down the list to BARNES SOLAR, I talked to Mike Lemaire. Search is over. Yes!! He is OUTSTANDING, extremelly knowledgable, and VERY personable. Needless to say, he was my last call. He gave me a couple quotes on two different systems and gave me lots of informative aspects of both systems. No pressure. You can do this over the phone. His price is very reasonable. Inexpensive compared to most of the others. BARNES SOLAR uses a better panel and inverter than the other companies I came across with too. Which is top shelf to consider. GREAT customer service. GREAT product. And a staff whom has GREAT PRIDE in there work. I have 2 HOA's to get approval from, and Mike Lemaire went through extreme lengths to get BOTH signatures from each one and had only ONE day to do it before the hearing. WOW!! And you kept your cool the whole time!!! Amazing!! I'm still stoked on that move Mike! Very, impressive! So... We got the approval within a couple weeks from the HOA's. Another approval from the city. And installation was scheduled in about a week after that. In turn, it was about a month from signing to install. *FIVE WEEKS sooner than expected because of Mike's remarkable effort on getting those HOA papers signed before the hearing. The crew took a quick 2 days to install. They were very clean. Pretty smooth install for 16 panels. No hold ups. The installers were really cool guys too. The new conduit was routed structurely, and they matched the paint nicely and cleaned up after themselves when they were done. Looks very slick. I would highly recommend BARNES SOLAR if you are considering going solar. Please note that Ricky Barnes - former owner of Barnes Solar (CSLB license 943909) - sold his business to LASG (L.A. Solar Group - CEO/Founder Ara Petrosyan CSLB license 974115) in early 2022. As a result LASG is marketing and upselling through the Barnes Solar name - posing as "Barnes Solar", yet have no intention of honoring the 25 year service warranty contract that Barnes Solar signed with former Barnes Solar customers! I have several documents and actions that confirm LASG's initial position that they will in fact honor former Barnes Solar customer service warranties. Yet they conveniently changed the story with time to state they only serviced "as a courtesy", and prefer instead to gaslight and demean any further inquiries requesting clarity for their inconsistencies. Interestingly Barnes Solar still exists and operates today as a company, BUT any call to them, or the supposed "Rickey Barnes" (they've cunningly left the Ricky Barnes voicemail active to dupe you into thinking he's still affiliated and will "call you back") - is only rerouted to LASG for the upsell - but not the contractually obligated warranty service! Nefarious to say the least. LASG will do just about anything to censor these factual observations and attempt to mute and rewrite the script, rather than deal with the issue as is often disingenuously suggested with Yelp responses herein. I have neighbors who installed Barnes Solar systems on my referral, and they (like me) are now relegated to deal with this disreputable company LASG. The only thing any of us are seeking is clarity on the topic of the 25 year service contract signed by Barnes Solar, and repairs necessary. Why that seems to be so difficult for "Barnes Solar" to answer is disturbingly curious. Stay tuned as LASG will no doubt pressure Yelp to remove any of these review that speak to the truth of LASG and Barnes Solar. We were referred to Barnes Solar by a colleague who is known to be hard to please. We did our diligence and obtained other quotes. Barnes Solar blew the other guys out of the water, not just on pricing, but service. During the quote process they just asked for 3 electricity bills and turned around a quote very fast. Over the phone they walked me through how much I should oversize my system based on estimated future power needs, and didn't try to upsell me on a battery like the other guys. They said if I still wanted a battery they could add it, however, they told me they believed the prices would continue to drop and it would be a much better deal in a few years from now. All the other guys were pushing batteries hard, but came up short trying to show me the numbers of how it was "better." A week later their site engineer comes out, introduces himself and promptly got to work. A few days after that I had my site plans ready to go. Barnes took the initiative to obtain permits, and because they are a local company, they were able to walk me through what was needed by our HOA for approval. After that, they scheduled my install date, which they warned could change due to upcoming rain. It did rain and my install ended up getting pushed back 2-days. No biggie. The install took 1.5 days and what impressed me most was their installers double checking with me the placement for the solar equipment. Due to a narrow walkway, the equipment would be sticking out further than I had thought (something you can't see on 2-dimensional plans) and would make getting by a hassle. Instead they proposed a new location which worked out perfectly. They ran all the wires in conduit and took care to run the conduit in a way that would hide it best. They even obtained paint that matched my house and painted the conduit to make it blend. They then walked me through setup of the gateway so I knew how everything worked. They came back the next day for the final inspection with the city and it passed with flying colors. Mike Lemaire then emailed me to let me know everything was done, he answered some final tax questions I had, and then told me I would get an email from my utility in 7-10 business days and to call him when I did so he could walk me through turning the system on. Service like that is why you should opt to work with local small businesses who know the market they service and avoid the big guys who are only driven by corporate greed and profit. I chose Barnes Solar solely based on Yelp customer reviews and they didn't disappoint. Mike was easy to work with on the business side of the house & was patient answering all our questions. We live in a heavily wooded area so we weren't sure if solar would be right for our house. Even though the testing didn't comeback as good as we were hoping, Mike didn't hide anything and wasn't pushy. We went through with the installation and I couldn't be happier. We get a bit less production in the winter, but the spring and summer months provide enough to keep our bills low. The production is just as Mike & team said it would be Final note on the integrity of this business. During the installation a worker accidentally cut our cable wire. We installed Solar with Barnes over 7 years ago. It was one of the best decisions we have made. Ricky and his team were exceptional and we have referred them to many of our friends over the years. Recently we noticed our system went down so we called Barnes Solar and they came out the next day to assess. Turns out our inverter crashed and needed to be replaced. Apparently this is very rare but we were relieved to learn we had a full warranty and Barnes Solar took care of the rest. Barnes Solar recently removed and re-installed the solar system on our home to facilitate a re-roofing project. Communication was excellent. The crews were prompt, polite, masked, and neat. They coordinated well with our roof contractor. There were a couple of issues with our system and they promptly resolved them. We used Barnes in lieu of our original installer as the original company chose to leave this geographic market. Barnes Solar has gone out of their way to have us a customer. I've been in the construction business for over 40 years and Barnes Solar is a company I would be proud to have on my contractor list were in this part of the industry. read more

We contacted Barnes from a positive referral. And so the initial sales contact (Jake Cosmo) didn't have to pressure us. Jake laid out the designed based on our utility bills and gave us a bid. We also got a bid from Peterson-Dean. Barnes was significantly less money and their warranty appeared to be the same. The installation was efficient. We had an issue with the way the grounding cables were run and Jake sent the foreman (Mike) out to handle the problem. They had to go into the stucco wall to find the ground, but they cleaned up the flex cable and repaired the hole in the stucco very nicely. Another plus: I like the ability to see my solar production online in real-time and am very encouraged by our new solar system. I give high praise to Barnes Solar. read more

Working with Jake at Barnes Solar has been amazing! The entire process of getting solar can be confusing, complicated and scary. There are so many scams out there and if you're not careful, you could end up with roof problems, trouble selling your home or paying WAY MORE than necessary. There's also issues with companies that go out of business or that sub out everything leaving the customer hung out to dry if they have problems. We did our homework and chose a local company (after we met with 3 other companies) that uses the best panels on the market and that we know will be around in 10 years or longer. Their prices are fair and the service was impeccable. Jake was there to answer our questions whenever they came up and always timely with his response. Ricky Barnes installed our system two years ago this month. After getting three other bids we found the sales and installation process quite easy as he took care of all the permits and requirements with the electric company. Everything went without a hitch and on schedule Initially we contracted with a different company, (Solar City) but after we signed the contract we read a bunch of horror stories in their yelp reviews. We canceled our contract and went back shopping and that's when we found Barnes solar. Have been looking at solar for about 4 years and finally made the move. Was introduced to Barnes by Freddy my contractor. Had 4 seperate companys out for competitive bids; Solar City, Horizon, Sea Bright and Barnes. Jake @ Barnes won me over and we went with the Panasonic panels - 20 in total! Jake was knowledable, laid out a nice 3d design and did not use hi pressure tactics. 2 of the other 4 companies tried to sell me insulation, windows and upgraded can lights so they lost me right off. Then came the installation crew- "Super Chief Adrian" was amazing and would not stop until the job was done. They broke out the lights when it got dark so they could finaish the panel installation. We included an upgraded panel box and all the wiring and ducting was so aesthetically nice looking when finished and that meant the world to me. "Super Chief Adrian" was good at expediting the installation and managing the crew. It was like he had the guys on gps, while wiring like gangbuster he "knew" where Tito and Alan were and what they were doing.... I was amazed - walks by and directs this and that - great field guy and multitasker. I want to give a shout out to Tito and Alan too - they were so very clean, tidy and respectful of my home - thank you guys! They even put the shoe covers on and plastic down when they accessed the attic! Can't say enough about Barnes Solar! read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! Everything seems great until you have problems. Then you find out that their customer service is atrocious. Their sales manager Mike will lie to your face and is rude to boot. And their salesman, Pete Correo, only wants to make a quick sale, failing to tell you of all your options for solar. Mike's excuse for this is to blame the customer (me) that I did not do enough research - in other words, do not rely on his salesman for correct information!! Do not trust Pete's smile and easy going attitude. You will regret it like I do! I will post more details when I have the chance. Just want to warn anyone considering Barnes Solar - I read the good reviews and thought "sounds good", and now I regret that decision. My sister met Pete and was not impressed with him and how he smiled and minimized her concerns/questions. She did not trust him and so used another company who is local to San Diego, Cosmic Solar, and got GREAT service. I am so sorry I didn't use them instead. This company also has had BBB complaints - something I unfortunately did not see before I hired them. More to follow! Update to Mike's comment below: The mere fact that you are now debating me on Yelp after berating/yelling at me on the phone this week is very distressing. I am NOT happy with the system that you installed and that is the entire problem. I had no idea about how much Peter Correo screwed up until a month ago (that is when I spoke to Jose and Megan about needing more panels) - so yes, until I realized how he had made incorrect recommendations and to get the right number of panels for my EV (which I had told him I was going to get in the 6 months after the system was installed), I was going to have to buy a NEW inverter, after I just bought one last year, I was fine with everything. I do not have energy to go into the entire detail right now of how your salesman failed me, and how you and I agreed to $2500 to have 3 panels added on 10-19, and three days later you raised that to $4150. I am very distressed at not only your behavior on the phone, I am very upset that you have changed the price on me. From the start I told you that I wanted nothing for free. But I wanted you to be fair and I felt $2500 for 3 panels was fair, especially since you would already be out here fixing the broken inverter on warranty. I told you that I would probably do that deal because I did not think I could afford a new inverter and 6 panels, and my current inverter could handle 3 more panels. Not the ideal system, but since I am currently unemployed, I would have to take the smaller deal. Then you changed the price. Not right. You yourself said to me on the phone on 10-19 that if you had been my salesman, you would have done things differently than Pete did. Your service manager, Jose, told me that it is standard practice to size systems for an upcoming EV if the customer tells the salesman that they are getting an EV in the near future. The standard advice on solar power websites say to do this in advance (I did not know this last year and trusted Pete when he said it was not possible to estimate this - he was obviously wrong). So please stop lying now. I will post on Yelp, as well as every website possible, exactly what happened with Pete, as well as how you told me that it was my job to research and determine how many panels I would need for an EV (not Pete's job or your engineer's job) and then we can let other solar customers decide whether they want to risk dealing with Barnes Solar - I do not think they will risk it. BUYER BEWARE!! Re "replacing the inverter at a discount" let's clear that up. Last month when I inquired about adding panels and found out that I would need to purchase a new inverter at full price, my current inverter failed. It would have to be replaced under warranty. When we talked on the phone on 10-19, I asked you if you could keep the brand new replacement inverter and I could pay the difference between the old incorrect inverter and the new inverter I would need if I decided to add more than 3 panels. You agreed. This was not a "discount" - I NEVER asked for a discount, I asked for fairness! Lastly, when you emailed me the price of $4150 for the panels, you said it was non-negotiable. I tried to reason with you about how you had changed the price. And I have the emails to prove it. So I am shocked when you say "We remain open to pursuing all available options with the customer and look forward to rebuilding a working relationship with this customer if she is willing." This is so disingenuous!!! Your words to me on the phone were that panels were $1000 a piece, but you could give them to me for $900 a piece since there would be less work, then you said - "I could put in 3 panels for $2500." Do that Mike, honor your words, and I will be satisfied. Oh and Mike, do it because honoring your words is right thing to do, not because I told the truth about my awful experience with Barnes Solar on yelp. read more

Well he came back with a fantastic offer and also that he had a fantastic team that worked with him from engineering to installation. We contacted a few Solar installers, gave them a spreadsheet of the last few years of our electrical consumption by month and had them come over to give us their thoughts and cost proposal. Prices were close and most everyone was nice and knowledgeable, but Jake from Barnes was especially clear, patient and even offered to take a quick look at the roof (1 story flat roof and I have a tall ladder). Jake's pricing was good and he came prepared with 2 proposals, 1 based on our recent use that included a new electric car and 1 that would be enough for a future 2nd electric car. We agreed to move forward with Barnes, including a new 125A subpanel. The Barnes crew was friendly and clean. Jake was very interactive with e-mail and a couple phone calls. The only negative was the time it took for our city to issue the permit, and as a city employee I know that was true. We had our solar panels installed in 2015. Everything was working great... until it stopped generating power. Unfortunately, the company that installed our system had gone out of business so there wasn't anyone we could turn to for a fix that was under contract warrantee. I called Barnes Solar and they were able to fix our system using the manufacturer's warrantee. A huge relief! We weren't an important big installation for them, just a small job, but they still did a professional and timely job getting us back up and running again. Hopefully this review makes sense, as I didnt necessarily end up giving my business to Pete and Barnes Solar. But I did appreciate his approach, professionalism and transparency. He came onsite, was very friendly, spent quality time explaining everything and gave his best price upfront. Unfortunately, his price was a bit higher then a competing vendor, and I couldnt justify spending more for same/similar install/products. I have no doubt in my mind that he would have done an outstanding job and he was very helpful even after not getting my business, answered questions after hours about OTHER contracts, a testament to his amazing customer service.
