I believe this is the oldest tavern in Tacoma, but it is not dusty and stodgy. Instead it is lively and friendly. Good food, great selection of cold beer and we love to catch to regular live music!

I would always recommended this spot to anybody. Beautiful views of the water front in the back bar area, great music selection, and an even better draft selection. From ciders to ipas they have it all. I've never tried the food here but it looks good so maybe next time. It's in a really neat spot to walk around as well, not far is some other great restaurants and places to grab a quick drink.

This place has good food but the service is really slow, as there was just one person tending to the restaurant. The ambiance is okay in the restaurant side, but if you're 21 and over I'd go by the bar towards the back; you'll get some BEAUTIFUL views of the sound.

After spending my morning working at the coffee shop next door, I thought I'd give The Spar a try for lunch. The Spar is located right in the heart of Old Town. The server was alone and really busy. I sat down and it took quite awhile for her to come over. Being busy is a great thing! I ordered a mushroom burger and a side salad. The burger was great- hot and good quality. The salad was also good. Overall, a good lunch spot. Looking forward to coming back and trying some of their fish and chips.

If you're looking for great pub fare, friendly service, and a welcoming vibe, then head over to The Spar in Tacoma's Old Town. They have some of the best halibut & chips in town. The panko crusted halibut is hand coated in house, and I recommend pairing it with their Spar Chips, sliced in house and lightly seasoned. It just elevates the experience. And definitely check out some of their great local IPAs on tap. Cheers!

It was my first time here and the food was great! Poor bartender was alone and swamped but she did great under the circumstances. The cheese curds were SO good! I loved the French dip too and my boyfriend liked his chicken as well. We'll be back for sure!

Nice bar over in Tacoma with 22 on tap and a plethora of other drinks. Pool tables are available. It's not too busy and that can be both a pro and con. Ordered a green tea (the drink not actual tea) and was pleasantly surprised when the bartender asked if I'd like the cocktail or just a shot. I usually don't get that question and just go with whatever they make. It was also pretty cheap for a green tea (wells whiskey). Most bars do it one way and so I loved that effort. Alongside drinks, the fish and chips were pretty solid. Nothing surprising but very fair and something to order again in the future. Unfortunately, they do close fairly early (8 PM). I understand it's Tacoma and it might not be busy, but for a bar that's pretty early and disappointing. Busy days may end in late night drinks but there are no late nights here.

The best Patty Melt!! Love the chips too!

The food is my favorite part. I can have a beer anywhere, but the food is actually pretty on point minus the nachos, sad to say. The sandwiches are amazing, the quesadillas are amazing, have yet to make it there before breakfast ends but I'm betting it's probably pretty good. Staff are friendly, efficient, and do well on checking to make sure you're not waiting too long for service without being too bothersome. It gets a little loud, busy and crowded on nights especially on the weekends, but that's typical bar atmosphere. They have so many games that create this neon color hue and you can help but want to stare at the games...possibly even play them. I also like that they were playing horror movies on the screen that really went with the late night vibe. There is even a photobooth that guests can use, too. These activations made the location such a great hangout spot and I was having such a good time, especially with the alcoholic freeze drinks. They were like sour lemonade & grape vodka flavors. Strong, yes! Also got a rando mixed drink for us that I do not know the name of. Just told the bartender that I wanted something sweet and strong, which is what I got! Took some time because only one bartender making drinks, but still able to enjoy my time with the company that I had with Chookerica. About $8 per drink, too. Not sure if they sell food here, but there are ample amount of seating arrangements that can cater to a big party of people. We could have sat a total of like 6 to 8 people at the booth table that we were at! Plenty of side street parking at this spot, too, but maybe because we came here on a Sunday night / Monday morning. I wish that the host staff made it clear that you had to order upfront at the bar table instead of them taking your order :( would rate higher if they did otherwise. Next time! Maybe...

The menu says they typically come out in about 25 minutes. We ordered them anyway. Luckily for us they came out first. They were delicious!!! Nice and hot. The breading was nice and flaky. We will ordering these again! The shrimp cocktail and the salads came out. They were all good. However, my wife noted that her Avocado and Bacon Salad needed more Avocado and Bacon. Salted Rim Bar and Kitchen was really busy. Especially for a Sunday night. They had a trivia contest going on so it was a little loud. However, with the business of the night they had enough staff to go around. With the staff being plentiful we were not ignored. As for the staff themselves they were all extremely nice and friendly. Some downsides is that they don't have glencairn glasses and the place has your typical tavern smells, so you won't get the full isolated whiskey tasting experience. This place is after all a tavern, so most of the focus is on beers and a communal experience.
