Is it fancy? No... but if you like dive bars this is a great spot. I met a friend for breakfast and I had never been before. I got biscuits and gravy. Did it look fancy when it came out? Absolutely not. Did it taste delicious and warm my belly on a chilly March morning? Absolutely. The guy serving us was friendly enough and was serving every table that came in. Wow, I'm impressed. This is a local bar down accross the street from a nice park on the south side of the Narrows Bridge along the water. The location is nice and so was our waitress. It's my first visit here and our waitress gave excellent recommendations when I asked my usual questions on a first to a new restaurant. We sat in a nice booth next to the bar and our waitress's suggestions were spot on. The burger was great with Swiss cheese an bacon. I have to say, the bacon is some of the best I've ever had on a burger. The waffle fries were definitely the best I've ever had and he honey mustard was perfect on the fries. Came here on a Monday with a friend to check out these wings she was raving about. Wings are on special on Mondays--you can get a maximum of 5 (full wings) for $8.50. They came out piping hot. They were pretty crispy and served with Ranch or Bleu Cheese. In my opinion, they could have used a little seasoning, but other than that were good. I was told this was a best kept secret brunch spot & it was good. It was just amusing with the swarm of flies that were swarming in the middle of the bar area. Kinda gross, kinda not. This is a bare minimum kinda spot - so don't expect sugar & cream to automatically come with your coffee. The service was okay - I'm pretty sure the bartender is an original to the place. It's a bar! If you're coming here for "fancy food" then you're in the wrong place. The few times I've eaten here the food has been OK, nothing to write home about, but I didn't expect it to be, I enjoyed it though. The drinks are good! First time here our bartender didn't seem thrilled to be there, and wouldn't even crack a smile. She's gone...figured that would be the case eventually. All of the other bartenders have been great since. Being a bartender myself, a smile, and hello, with customers goes a long way! It's definitely a "locals" place. (We live just up the hill - maybe one day we'll be "locals". LOL) Everyone here seems to know each other, and that's pretty cool. Very interesting decor and atmosphere. They have a TouchTunes juke box, so you can play music you want to hear, while enjoying a drink. Service terrible, food edible, expensive. I sat at the bar waiting to order for 20 minutes. The 2 bartenders seemed to go out of their way NOT to take my order. I ordered the fish and chips to go. I sat there for another 20 minutes waiting for the food. No one even offered me a glass of water. I had to flag someone down to ask about my food. When I got it the fish was cold and greasy. It's been here for as long as I can remember - I remember being 11/12 years down at the beach with my best friend and seeing this spot, and now we're in a full circle moment when I'm 28 and writing a review for them on Yelp. My boyfriend and I came here after checking out Narrows Brewing fairly nearby. We were surprised at how busy this place was but, most dive bars sport their fair share of regulars and it was a Friday night. Service was great and quick. Beers were cold, shots came quick. What more can you ask for? Their menu is full of regular pub fare. I got the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with tots and highly recommend! It does come with a single slice of cheese on it which I can't say made a difference at all in taste. So if you're trying to be a *little* healthier when ordering this, maybe nix the cheese. Or just don't get it (jk, get it. It's worth it). It's super tasty and really filling - I wish there was an option to make it spicy, but still really great. Solid choice if you're in the area. We probably won't be here too often just because it is a little bit of a drive for us, but we'll return soon! read more

Now, the Beach Tavern is probably not everyone's cup of tea or beer or wine or tequila, but that's why this place is a gem. We wanted history, servers who literally know every locals name (and order), even with the slight charming surliness (an oximoron I know) but that's what old, local do I dare say "dive bars" are known for. What I do know, is that the wings were incredible, as well as the fries. Beer was cold, establishment clean (including bathroom) and the locals quickly accepted us. As a bar called the Beach that sits right near the Puget Sound, you'd think that they might serve clam chowder more often than just Fridays but that's what we were told. My wife opted for the chili instead which wasn't very good and my nachos were just so/so. We have a pretty good track record with bar food but I suppose we should just stick to drinks when we go here. I want to love this bar but after 3 attempts in 4 months, I can't do it anymore. The food is great, the clientele are old-timers that are eager to include you into there shenanigan's and being on the water gives a beautiful setting. It's the bar staff that kills the vibe! The 1st time I chalked it up to the bar staff having a bad day. I wasn't acknowledge until I asked for a menu and a drink, about a 10 minute sit at the bar. The bar wasn't busy and the 2 staff members were at the end of the bar talking to one another. The 2nd time, same thing. About a 10 minute sit ... at the bar. This time it took a local to have the bartender acknowledge me. I should also mention that the 2 bartenders were serving the folks at the bar while I sat and watched. I had 2 drinks and a fabulous burger but the struggle to get these items wasn't easy. Call me a glutton for punishment. I had to go one last time. Same thing but served with some snarky attitude when I asked for a lime for my vodka tonic. 1 drink in and I left. If your looking for quality service, I'd skip this place. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. Absolute horrible experience. The owner likes to yell at their customers and threaten to tow them if they don't come inside. Parked, walked 10 feet to the dock to take a picture of the ocean, only to have the owner come out and yell "I will tow your car if you aren't a customer." Keep in mind, we've been there for 1 minute. Immediately changed our mind about going inside to get a drink and went back to our car. I came to this bar for the first time ever yesterday with a friend whose been here once before many years ago. It wasn't our first choice, we like to go to Thirsty Hound for food and drinks but when we got there we found out they had closed for the evening so we had to pick another spot and she said this place was just down the road so I said "sure I'll give it a try" and neither of us plan to ever return. I've heard of dive bars but this place is a nosedive of a bar. There's really no redeeming qualities to it. First we sat down inside and ordered ciders .. we both love ciders and the bartender listed out the few they had and one of them was a pineapple flavored cider which is what my friend likes to order at Thirsty Hound and I decided to get the same one. I never had a pineapple flavored cider before this day but wasn't a fan of it after having a couple big sips. After a few sips my friend said "this is the same brand they have at Thirsty Hound but it tastes different... hard to describe but doesn't taste as fresh. These might be ones they've had for a while." They gave us food menus but we had a difficult time deciding on what to order so waited and really looked the menu over. My friend noticed they have a "snickers martini" on their menu and that sounds right up my alley as I love chocolate and when I went to Vegas, I sat at a bar and drank a variety of chocolate martinis so I ordered one and sadly this was nothing in comparison to the ones I had in Vegas. The presentation and actual taste were both very bland. It looked like they just threw a little chocolate milk in a martini glass. There was no chocolate drizzle or like a mini snickers garnish.. it barely even tasted like chocolate so it was not worth paying $7.50 for to say the least. We went to sit outside as there was a man inside the bar that was being loud and appeared to talking to someone on his phone. I asked for water and we ordered food. We both had a small cup of their chili and I ordered onion rings as well. Neither were anything to write home about. Chili was lukewarm and onion rings were bland even with ranch and tapatio... tasted like they weren't seasoned. I spent $25 here and the best part of my meal was the ice water! Service was just okay... they barely checked on us. View is nice when you sit outside but aside from that this place is a dump! read more

Been going there for over 40 years. the food is always great. Most of the staff are great people. I was there last night and sat down with an old friend. He was complaining to me about The waitress who was being rude to him. He was wanting to pay so he could leave. We were sitting at the bar right in front of the cash register, he had to hold his card up and wave it around to get her attention. She finally processed the card and threw the card and slip and pen on the bar and stormed away. He wrote no tip on the slip, paid, and put it on the bar. The waiter named Manny picked up the slip read it and bleated out NO TIP HUH so everyone could hear him. So very rude. Manny has been kind of nasty with me in the past,I just ignore him, But this was very out of line. I always tip well but they just expect a tip no matter how bad they treat any customer. They split tips with the other staff at the end of shift so it also affects their coworkers. I did not leave my usual TIP knowing she and Manny would take notice and wake up. Mixed feelings about this place. Location, drink selection, service, regional dessert and the fish was excellent. Sides and happy hour policy disappointing. I sat on the lovely patio on the pier with a flight of local ciders. The waitress was an excellent balance of attentive while letting my enjoy my afternoon. Beer battered cod was delicious and the local peach jar pie good enough to smack your grandma for. Ciders and desserts vary with what is in season. The fries were dried up husks and the side of coleslaw literally two bites. Cabbage is cheap, so no reason to skimp. Happy hour didn't extend to outdoor seating. Why not? Seems silly, but maybe there is a local law that I don't know about. read more

This is my 4th time coming to this restaurant. Nothing has seemed to have changed every time I've been there. The waitress (Kari) is horrible service wise. If you wish to make good money from Tips then I'd recommend you actually pay attention to what customers ask of you which is in reach for a bar/ restaurant of this stature. Kari I don't know who pissed in your Cheerios but you may be happier working at your local grocery store asking customers weather they would like (paper or plastic bags). I'd watch "Bar Rescue" on this Tavern just to see Kari handle the stress from the pros.
