Planning a large group breakfast for a room full of Porsche Club auto enthusiasts is no small ask, yet Urban Elk delivered. We'd organized a club event here, and from the moment we arrived it was clear the venue was ready for us. The dining room is expansive, set against a gorgeous golf course backdrop, and it handled our group comfortably without feeling chaotic or cramped. Breakfast was solid across the board, and the kitchen kept pace well given the volume they were managing--no small thing when you're coordinating that many plates at once. One low point was the bacon--it simply wasn't great. Watching the sausage make its way around the other end of the table, I knew I'd made the wrong call. A special mention goes to Becca, who put in real work coordinating this event on the front end and running the show when we arrived. Her diligence made it all work and sets the tone for everything that follows...and it showed. Service throughout was attentive and the feedback from the group was genuinely positive, and if you know Porsche Club people, is a meaningful endorsement. There's also a large patio we'll try and experience the next time when it's warmer. It looked like a fantastic space for the right weather. We're already planning a return visit, and I'd absolutely recommend Urban Elk if you're looking for a venue that can handle a larger group with care and without the usual friction. It's karaoke ugly sweater contest night. I think more people need to know about this place. We let the GM Brian who is trying new fun events at this location. Not a lot of people showed up, but let me tell you it was a blast. We had the regulars come up and sing, even staff came up and sang. When no one was singing we had dancers on the dance floor. Place was clean, and organized. Staff were amazing. All so kind we had so Much fun with them. Seth and another young lady took care of our orders. Loved the mango Italian soda, and beef quesadilla. Very helpful since we haven't had dinner yet. If I wasn't going to sing I would've tried other items in the menu. I heard they have an all you can eat Sunday brunch!!! One day I hope to drive from Kent Sunday morning to experience that breakfast brunch. Brian thanks for having us. We have been golfing with our son at Allenmore Golf Course and have loved grabbing a bite to eat or drink at the Urban Elk! I had the best Turkey Club I've ever had today! Seemed a little pricey at first but the portion was so giant it was enough to share. Loved the fresh iceberg lettuce, lots of fresh avocado, hot turkey and thick bacon YUM!!! It's very long but also very worthy of a read. Saturday evening, we celebrated a close friends' birthday at Urban Elk at Allenmore golf course, as a party of 9. The place was busy and had a live band. Follow this journey of extremely horrible service and some bad steaks... The waitress took our table's orders randomly, think Duck-Duck-Goose style. She forgot to bring beverage menus. Forgot to bring beverages. Well, maybe not forgot, because she passed the table with said beverages not once, but three times for others in our party. Forgot to come back and take my husband and my order multiple times. People in our party who ordered after us, received and finished their food before my husband said something to a different waitress, who apologized and said she's check on it. After about 10 minutes, He then went to talk to Manager who was standing near us, admiring the band. The manager said he'd check on it. In the meantime, someone else in our party seated next to us, had her steak salad taken away by the manager because the steak was purple and could not be cut with a steak knife. Still no food for us, and I'm out of water at this point. And, it's been 1 hour since we ordered our food. During this 1.5 hours, someone from the kitchen who seemed to be a chef, is bringing out food and asking all around the entire restaurant, who ordered this, only to take said food back to the kitchen. Some of our party members leave. We still don't have our food. When our food finally arrives, the different waitress mentioned above, apologizes again and informs us that our meals are completely on the house. Husband's steak was purple and had zero seasoning, except for the sauce drizzled on top. I ordered a club sandwich with tots that took over an hour to arrive from the kitchen that we are seated directly next too. After a few bites of my tots and sandwich, I sample his steak and it sure is flavorless and chewy, like old gum. Both waitresses appear magically together and ask if we want to box up food. I declined because his is covered with his napkin and our original waitress asks if I want more sauces. I respond "No thank you. It took over an hour, 1/2 of our party is gone now and I'm not going to eat while my husband starves." She is trying to force me to eat it, says the kitchen is backed up and says the manager will come talk to me. All of our table's bills were incorrect, well those that received them. We asked for our bill numerous times and never got one, so I loudly state, "since our meals were complimentary, I'd like to pay for our 2 drinks. Still no bill ever came. We've now been here almost 3 hours, and believe our food and drinks are both complimentary because the manager never came to talk to us and still no bill. The different waitress is heard apologizing to other nearby tables that she's sorry for a horrible experience. The band is leaving while we're saying goodbyes and walking out. The original waitress screams across the restaurant "did you want to pay for your drinks?" Embarrassing is the best way to describe that interaction. Especially because the manager was still standing there near the bar, the same manager that never came to talk to me. Husband pays while stating how horrible the service was, and our original waitress who is now at the bar apologizes but reiterates that "I'm sorry you feel this way and that the kitchen was backed up. It's out of our control". Our remaining party members loudly state how horrible the service and some of the food was, within earshot of the manager who is standing there, smiling but not looking at any of us. We hope this is a one-off because the view overlooking the golf course is amazing. But I'll be damned if we wait over an hour for food, 1/2 of which was inedible and the other was simply a club sandwich, while later members in our party eat and finish; and how we tried to talk to a manager who seems to either not care or is completely oblivious to what happens in the restaurant, except for the admiration of the live band. read more

We were among the first seating on Easter Sunday so I was ready for a long line instead the doors opened on time and we were almost by ourselves in the dining room. What a pleasant surprise! The splendid view of the golf course gives a very Zen vibe and the service was attentive but not hovering. The food was excellent although the crab avocado Benedict could've been a little warmer in the middle, but if that's the only suggestion then that's not so bad. I was really tempted to steal a bite of the house made chicken fried steak I bought for my brother to go, it looked and smelled amazing. I feel like this is a best kept secret of a restaurant and bar so I'm a little hesitant to leave such a glowing review for fear there might be a bigger crowd next time but I also assume many people probably still think membership needed to dine, which of course is no longer true.( I worked for and was a member at the old Elk's across the street many moons ago.) read more

This place is a disgrace for a restaurant. Paid $120.00 ahead of time for a St Patrick's day dinner of corned beef and cabbage and had reservations for 6:00pm. Get there and no service for 30 minutes. Guess what , no corned beef and cabbage left. Get served Irish stew (that's what they call it anyway) and "Irish Nachos ". Both inedible swill!! I had high hopes for a new breakfast place, alas it's just the same as when the place was Smoke and Cedar which wasn't all that great. Service was fine and the server very pleasant but it doesn't have anything that would make us want to come back as a must go place. Both of us had omelets, one a garden and the other a Denver. Best part were the potatoes which if I'm being fair is how I judge a place. It's not an extensive menu but even if we had our grand kids with us, there would have been choices they could live with. The place has been through a lot of changes over the past decade. This review is for the Urban Elk 2021 and in a nutshell - it's awesome! I've never understood why more people don't come here. It's a great location, plenty of parking, a beautiful and clean facility, with wonderful views. I came here before, and after, Covid hit and I couldn't be more impressed with the professionalism the staff has shown regarding cleanliness, masking, etc. When outside on their spacious heated deck, you can breathe fresh air, enjoy the views, music, TV's and great food. I've had the spicy chicken sandwich more than once and it beats all the local competition. Their tots are to die for. Husband had the stroganoff which was enough to feed a family and absolutely on point. We've been for Happy Hour and the sliders are a bargain, the onion rings kill - $9 onion rings you say?!? My husband and his friends golf at Allenmore 2-4 times a month. He always offers to bring me back something. Ive been so disappointed with the food from here he doesnt even ask anymore. Ive tried a cheeseburger. The meat was bone dry, and the condiments looked awful. I tried a bite and had to throw it out. I tried prime rib dip and the au jus was watery and tasteless. The prime rib had greenish color to it with very small amount of meat. Very frustrated, but let my husband puck something for a last try. He picked fettuccine, because thats pretty simple to make. Unfortunately the alfredo sauce was super bland and tasteless. Pretty frustrating to waste that money and disappoint husband who was trying to show off a place he likes. read more

We had read that this space had reopened as Urban Elk so decided to give their Happy Hour menu a try. I'd say it was "just OK" - 2.5 stars, which Yelp doesn't allow. I know they're new, but service was kind of awkward. We sat up at the bar - the place was empty except a single table, also in the bar. Our bar tender was pleasant but when we asked for a Mint Julep and a Moscow Mule - very common drinks - we found he really didn't know what either one was and actually asked us what each of them was! - this despite having copper "Mint Julep" mugs right there on the counter. So I ordered a Coors Light bottle with a So-Co shot.... I got a Bud Light bottle instead - no mention of not having Coors light so not sure what that was about, and had to ask for the Southern Comfort again - only to find that they don't have Southern Comfort. Oh well.... growing pains. For food we ordered Happy Hour stuff - blackened cod tacos (VERY good!) and the calamari - the tacos were very good - but the calamari was like sushi - almost raw. We left almost all of it behind, but were never offered to have it deducted or recooked... it was really not good at all - it needed much more time in the fryer. Vibe was pretty nice - music was blaring - especially in the restrooms - crazy loud. Considering there were no other people except one other bar table - it was kind of early at 4:00 PM for the "party vibe" in the music.... they could do well to adopt a mellower vibe when the place is empty and it's still early. No need for 95 dB rock playing at 4:00 PM in an empty restaurant. All in all, 2.5-stars.... they have some work to do but I think they'll figure it out Dave read more

First time here, and it was a perfect atmosphere for a informal interview. The food was great, our server was very nice and met all of our needs. They have a full stocked bar, plenty of screens for sports events, and it's nicely backdropped on the golf course. It has a very rustic, back country vibe to it. It allowed a complete stranger to, at the very least make two new friends, feel at ease and comfort to talk about job prospects. I had the Chef Salad, with blue cheese, and it was a perfect portioned plate. I've been trying to stay true to my Keto options, and it was accommodating. Which also means I did not get to explore the menu options too much, but will definitely return when in the area again. I would say this is a little gem tucked away in the outskirts of Tacoma. This was one of the most underwhelming brunch experiences I've ever had. Hoping for their sake it was just an isolated bad morning when we were there. First hint something was off with this place, they didn't have our reservation (for 11 people) when we arrived. Ok fine. It was pretty much empty at 11am on a Sunday anyway so not a huge deal - the emptiness should've been the 2nd hint. The service: took about 25 min to get someone to come take our order once we were seated. Staff was nice enough but seemed poorly trained or distracted or something. I asked for cream w/ my coffee, when I ordered it, and 2 more times after that. The cream never came. Food came out for everyone (11 people) over the course of 15 min rather than all at once and a few orders weren't right (wrong sides etc). Never came around to refill water etc unless we flagged someone down. The bill took forever to come - we had to go find someone to cash out. And it wasn't even busy in there which was the weirdest part. The food: Be warned...the menu is not the same as the menu online (as of Feb 16 2020). Food was mediocre at best. Rueben was fine but not great. The fries tasted like a freezer burned version of freezer fries you cook in your oven at home. How does a restaurant not have good fries?? That is like the one thing you cant mess up eating out lol, but they did. They brought out pancakes with no butter or syrup and then we had to wait like 10 min to get syrup. Over medium eggs order was like solid eggs. Greasy soggy hash browns. Ordered medium steak on a salad that came out super rare. Sausage links that come with breakfast are spicy - fine - but maybe mention that when people are ordering sausage links for younger kids or better yet, put it on the menu. Everyone in our party agreed we wont be back. Lots of potential with the large space and views and all but food and service definitely not worth it. read more

Went here at 9:30 AM on Father's Day. The food was delicious! Nicely seasoned and decent portions. Prices are reasonable. I'm giving it a 3 for the food. I would rate this a 1 for service. Hardly anyone was there. The service was horribly slow. It took almost 2 hours for breakfast. Coffee was refilled once in a small cup. Had to ask for salt and pepper for the table. They were severely understaffed. This is such a lovely location and cute restaruant. Hope that they can get the service figured out. Until that happens, we won't be going back. read more

We went for Mother's Day brunch, the waitress wasn't super friendly. I had eggs, hash browns, bacon and English muffin. The egg and hash browns had zero salt on them and they give you half of an English muffin. The bacon was not cooked all the way. The blackberry lemon mimosa tasted like pure lemon. Urban Elk is the restaurant that moved into the space at the Allenmore Golf Course's main clubhouse building where Smoke + Cedar once was. Not too much as changed as far as the space during this transitional period....some new decor but that is about it. The night we went here was when a storm was going on so we had the whole place to ourselves...which I actually really liked. No conceited conversations about girlfriends and boyfriends and a most welcome absence was the screaming of children! So despite the rainy evening we defied staying in! The service here was good...our waiter was congenial! As far as the food....overall I liked it! Steven and I split two menu items. We split a very fine plate of nachos and the other plate was fish and chips. I have no complaints about the food other than one thing. There were two fish fillets with the fish and chips in which we split up evenly. My fillet seem to be tough in texture and kind of stuck together...unlike most fish and chip dishes. The fillet wasn't necessarily warm by the time we finished the nachos so this may have contributed to the condition of the fish. Anyway that particular thing I didn't really care for. Other than that I like chips (fries) and those nachos! I would come back! read more

I was very sad when I heard Smoke & Cedar was closing. My husband and I were golfing at Allenmore and noticed that the Urban Elk had opened in its place. So, we decided to give it a try. The food was super yummy. The only compliant I had was I wanted Sunday brunch. We got here at 1205, and I guess breakfast ended at 12, so I wasn't able to get breakfast. Smoke and Cedar had the best Sunday crowd because they did endless mimosas and bloody Mary's and brunch till 3pm. I think the place would be way more crowded on Sunday if Urban Elk did some kind of boozy brunch. The food we had was really good and the staff was very nice. Overall, my experience was pleasant. I'm glad a restaurant opened up here to replace Smoke and Cedar. The food and service was better than the previous establishment. More people need to try this place. More advertisement.
