After my last review, Carrie (the owner) wrote a long thoughtful message apologizing for my past experience. Not only did she take the time to listen to an experience that happened several years ago, but she apologized and invited me and my new puppy back in for a complimentary grooming. We also figured out that the staff member that caused my negative experience no longer works there. After coming back to The Spaw I can say that the staff here takes the time to know all of the dogs that come in, as well as the owners. I loooooove The Spaw! My sister and I take our bichon frise, Pooka there every time she needs a good groomin', and they ALWAYS do an amazing job. We've tried several groomers before, but The Spaw always makes our little seal pup look perfect. I don't know how they get her so soft, neat, and poofy :) They also adorn each pup with a seasonal bandana when they are finished -- so cute! We drive about a half an hour to get to The Spaw, but it's always worth it! Even though Pooka gets a little carsick :( The staff is friendly and very accommodating. You can tell that all of the employees really love animals, and you can feel comfortable leaving your beloved pooch with them. There was even an incident where my sister came a half hour after they were closed to pick up Pooka after she got groomed (due to getting off work late and driving in traffic). But when she finally got there, one of the employees was just playing with Pooka and didn't seem upset at all that we made her wait! (sorry about that... and thank you so much!) Brought my yorkie puppy to to the Spaw this morning and it was a great experience! My yorkie is 4 months old and this was his first grooming appointment. As soon as we walked in the staff was really helpful. They educated me on a variety of services I could receive that would benefit my puppy. Being that he is my first dog, I was unsure exactly how I wanted him cut. The staff was able to give me suggestions as well as really work with me to get everything sorted. Once I went to pick up my puppy they informed me that he didn't play as much, (Which I expected he is afraid of most dogs) but that he did amazing with their groomer. Honestly...finding The Spaw has been a blessing! Previously we would take Maxx at different places trying to find one that we really like and my husband and I would find something wrong with every place we took him, but at The Spaw everything is perfect! We recently took Maxx and our new baby Thor to get groomed and they came out perfect! Soft coat, great smell, short nails, and of course they were both really happy! I've boarded Maxx before when my husband and I went out of town for a couple days and I remember getting a phone call letting me know how Maxx is doing...seriously who does that? It's hard to find a business who cares and loves what they do and treat customers as great as The Spaw does. My husband and I are going out of town for our 1 year anniversary and even though a lot of our friends and family offered to take care of our dogs we decided to board them at The Spaw because we know how great and attentive the staff will be to our pups. We requested the room that's separated (the one you can see when you enter The Spaw), but we were told that it cannot be held. I explained the reason why (Maxx has horrible anxiety and cannot eat/sleep when he hears/sees other dogs) and the staff said she would do everything in her power to make sure Maxx and Thor get that room. Also if you board your pups for 2+ nights they give you a free exit bath...downside if you want a clean up you have to pay for the whole thing...they won't let you pay for the difference :( Overall I would highly recommend The Spaw to all my fellow pup lovers and kitty lovers (yes! I heard they also board cats from time to time) for many reasons. The staff is amazing, the dogs are happy, they have a senior dog area (for all the grumpy old pups like Maxx!), they now use periscope which is an app where they will send you a live feed of what is going on and if you want to check up on your pet the owner will walk on over and show you how they're doing, and the owner is AMAZING! She definitely loves and cares for what she does and it makes me feel great knowing that I can leave my dogs there and not worry about them because they're in great hands :) read more

After one bad experience after another with Petsmart Grooming, I decided to spend a little more and do this haircut right -- and the Spaw had the such great reviews so I called and made my appointment. Lambo and I just came back from the Spaw and I AM SO HAPPY WITH HIS EXPERIENCE! The groomer did a great job despite the fact that I didn't even know what kind of cut I wanted (cuz all our past experiences have turned out ugly) -- He not only came back looking ADORABLE but you can definitely tell he was well groomed and loved. Kendra gave me great feedback and exhibited genuine care for Lambo! If you think about it, the $60 ($55 for cut and $5 for matting) is practically what the "cheap" quality places (like petsmart) will charge you anyway. I was in need of a new groomer. I wasn't too pleased with my last groomer, as they were too corporate and kept dogs in a compact kennel. I wanted something more hands on, something more personal that would make my dog feel welcome. Thanks to Yelp I was able to find The Spaw in Tustin! My pupperoni enjoyed a lovely doggy daycation with a bath, haircut, nail cut, and anal gland cleaning. She was able to play around with other pupperoos before and after her bath. Just a honest 3.5 star review, for the grooming service only. I've been taking my 2 dogs here for almost 5 years and I think it's time for me to write a honest review of the business based on my overall experience. I'm not gonna name my pets because I don't want the owner to look up the history and trying to justify every single mistake Im going to mention in this review. In summary, this is one of the better grooming salons I've tried during my last 10 years of searching for groomers in the OC area. Hence, I stayed with them for 5+ years thus far. The Goods: - Good groomers with lots of experience - Caring owner that tries her best to do the best for pets, which I appreciate Why I don't think it's a 5 star place: - Always busy, too busy for the space and staff level in my opinion. Thus, this is not the best place if your pets need more individual attention. Appointments are hard to book unless you call at least min. 1+ weeks ahead (before Covid-19). Front receptionists are always dealing with so many tasks and forgot who needs what at times. Pets stay there for a really really long time, before they call you that they are ready for pickup. My 2 pets are both at senior age now, so it's been increasingly difficult for them to stay calm and stress-free during these grooming visits because they are there for a long time. If you have an appointment after 10:30am, expect to pick up your dogs around 4-6pm. I complained about this issue once and I was told the long wait was because I have 2 pets to be groomed at the same time. So I said I was okay picking up each dog separately whenever one is ready, because I live close by. However, that only happened once out of many many times. Again, I think they are just too busy all the time to offer such individual attention most of the times. During the past 5 years, one of my pets got eye infections twice after grooming. Called them both times to try to address the issue, no resolutions or refunds. This is one of those things that is hard to pinpoint who and what's at fault. But she has not had any eye infection besides those two incidents, so I'm 100% sure she got it from the grooming sessions. Both times were not serious, just need an ointment from the vet and took about 1 week for it to go away. Again, not happy but stuck with them because other grooming salons would probably be worse. Overall, my suggestion for The Spaw would be to decide whether you are a premium place or a more mid-tier place where you need the current customer volume. Right now, it is a place with premium pricing but customer service is lacking because of how busy you are... I hope this makes sense. After all of these years, I think I'm going to transition to a mobile salon instead of staying with them. Although mobile salon is going to be a bit more pricey, my dogs are at the age where they need more individualized attention because of their old age, that only mobile groomers can provide. I wish them the best of luck, especially after the hardship of COVID-19 closure. read more

They take such good care of my pup and I appreciate the patience they have with him; he comes out looking fresh and smelling clean and doesn't seem as stressed as he usually is when he goes in for grooming in general haha. Both past times I took him in I asked for the puppy cut, and when I picked him up (usually approx 3hrs later) and asked for adjustments to length of ears, tail, etc, they were happy to do it with no trouble! We got our little poodle puppy over the holidays and I was very weary of where to take her to get groomed because I've seen some terrible poodle haircuts over the years! However, the Spaw exceeded my expectations! My favorite part is they have a free play room for the dogs where they can run around and play without being held in cages. My dog loves this and loves the workers at this place! We will definitely continue to come back. This review is long overdue. I can't say enough great things about The Spaw! The entire staff is knowledgeable, loving towards fur babies, and courteous to every person that walks through the door. I began bringing in my poodle a couple years back, and we now continue to bring in our dachshund puppy for overnight stay. You can view you pet on periscope and see how they interact with the rest and have a peace of mind. We were recently evacuated from our home in Anaheim hills due to the fire, and we couldn't think of a better place for our pup than The Spaw. I was in the area for work and had the fortunate to have my adorable dog with me. As any dog owner knows getting a dog groomed is a whole ordeal and many times life gets in the way. I had some free time and began calling various pet groomers in desperate hope that one of them would have an open spot. The Spaw was so accommodating! They found a spot for him and I brought him right over. The place is a little hard to find since it's located in a business park. However once you are inside it's great! They have a large selection of toys and food (healthy raw options, etc.) that you can check out while you pick up/drop off your dog. They also board dogs which you can see via monitors. I absolutely got mesmerized watching the small dog area. It was adorable. They did a great job with the nails and giving my dog a bath. He was happy when he got out! Still loving this place. Took my newest addition here during the craziness of covid and didn't have any problems. I tried following the at home grooming tips that the owner, Carrie posted on Facebook but my girl was not having it AT ALL. She was extremely difficult with me and I was scared she may be the same with the groomers here. I warned the girls in the front to give them a heads up but they assured to me that she wasn't (she had been there once before covid as well) but I'm convinced the groomers here are EXTREMELY patient. Yes, they can be incredibly busy and sometimes take a bit long before calling to tell you that your pup is ready. Do I see that as being a bad thing? Not at all. I'd rather they take all the time they need instead of rushing. I love my dog but I'm fully aware that she can be an old grouch and difficult when it comes to grooming. The groomers and everyone who works here need to be given more credit. I recommend you all to take that extra second to ask how your dog behaved during their time there.
