Well, it was ok. Nothing great. My husband and I had a late lunch on a Wednesday. The food was very hot, that was good. The drinks are cheap, $1.99. Chicken fried steak was very thin and bland. Chicken avocado bacon sandwich was ok, but the chicken had a bad texture, thin and gristly, pressed and formed. Not anything like real chicken. Service was good. Restaurant is dark, but nice enough as far as decor and cleanliness. Won't be going there again, but I can see how others might like it. It was just nothing special in our experience. read more

The newest best kept secret in Bellevue. I would have given 5 stars but they are closed Sunday evenings and Mondays. That said, everything is delicious. My favorite so far is the Savannah fried chicken salad which has been a special of the day. The chef has made it for me when it hasn't been the special of the day. Talk about great service! My husband loves the Rueben and my daughter has referenced the burgers as the best she has had in a long time. The desserts are specials of the day and delicious. I was very happy with my experience at the special restaurant today. I ordered the California chicken club, all the ingredients were fresh, chicken grilled perfectly and tasted awesome. Portion size was huge for the price as well. Most meals were around $8-12 - very fair pricing. My friends ordered the chicken fried chicken and the special chicken sandwich. The fried chicken sandwich was easily the best I've had in a long time. The breading and tenderness of the chicken was spot on. Should also mention the staff was very friendly and helpful. Only reason I'm giving 4 stars is for the "mood" of the place. Every wall had a mirror to make the space appear bigger, and the furnishings looked outdated to me for being a newer restaurant. We actually went here on St. Patrick's Day, but it took me a long time to get here. The place is cute with a diner feel. The staff is nice, and even when my daughter was throwing a fit briefly (she's 3) no one gave us dirty looks. I had a burger and my food was great. My hubby had a chicken fried steak that was huge, but he said it lacked seasoning. I didn't taste it, so I don't know. Not sure what happened here. When in on a Saturday for breakfast around 12:30p, not very busy, waited for food for 30 minutes, then food was not warm. Second visit and really disappointed with the service. We are both out of coffee and have been for quite a while. The pancakes were cold and tough. The waitress hasn't checked in with us since the food was served. I really needed more gravy but got tired of trying to get the waitresses attention as my already not hot food was getting colder. We had hope for this place as it's close to our house but now not so sure. The first time we came here the food was piping hot and the service was good. I guess a third try might be in order to average things out? We are usually very good tippers in the 25% range. The waitress is now in the $1.00 per plate range. She must have had some friends come into her section as she just paid attention to that table. The waitress gave us someone else's check and their credit card. Fortunately we were able to get her attention right away or who knows how long we would have sat there. We would have normally left a $5.00 tip on a $16.00 dollar check. We ended up not leaving a tip. Oh and we never did get a refill on our coffee. So 6-8 ounces of coffee was $1.98. More expensive than my keurig at home! read more

It has been a year since we were in there. Perhaps some issues have resolved. I called ahead and asked if they could handle gluten free. The answer was yes. Went in near closing time and the waiter assured me they could do anything gluten free. Being a sucker for chicken fried steak I asked about that. No, not that. Next item was an appetizer. No not that. Those come boxed pre-breaded. I ended up ordering a reuben on gluten free bread. The dressing that usually came with it was not gluten free of course. So I had him bring some Ranch. The Reuben came with two sandwiches and 4 pieces of bread. Yikes! I took half home. I also had fries which was a mistake. I reacted to something. Who knows. Thankfully not life or death but we haven't been back. I called a couple of months later and spoke with the owner. Very nice. I suggested more meat less bread perhaps. I also found out the brand of gluten free bread they were using for future reference. I believe it was Rotella which I am usually fine with. Who knows what did it? Hubby was okay with his meal for the most part but hasn't been anxious to go back either. read more

Decided to give The Special a try based on other reviews...glad I did! My wife ordered the chicken salad sandwich with fries and I had the turkey bacon swiss with sweet potato fries. We split the sandwiches to get a taste of each. The chicken salad sandwich was delicious, moist, and made with quality chicken. The turkey bacon swiss was great as well. The turkey was very tasty and there was plenty of it. Both the fries were good as well. Servers were friendly and efficient. Definitely will be back and if you are in Bellevue worth a try.
