This place is simple--no frills, straight to the point. I walked in and was seated within seconds. Just as quickly, I had a menu in front of me. Probably the longest time anything took was deciding what to eat (with some help from the lovely staff). After ordering, my food was out almost immediately! The food was good. Gravy for biscuits tasted exactly how it smelled like the sausage was rotten. So my breakfast partner she had gotten a patty melt n fry's and so we split each entree up and she too had the same look on her when she tasted my 1/2 of food so when the waitress came over we both told her something was not rite that it smelled n tasted bad so she said what would u like to replace it I told her a patty melt since that's what my friend ordered n we shared the first one but the 2nd one we asked for a to go box n they brought us one! So that is false info from your waitress! So now I know I won't be coming bk cuz they r lieing on there part! Placed was packed about 8:45am. Found one table in the back. Despite being packed, food came out fast. My husband thought the Salted caramel French toast was fantastic! I had the build a breakfast with eggs over medium (cooked perfect), Turkey sausage (good), and biscuits and gravy. Biscuits and gravy looked spectacular, but the gravy was tasteless. It looks like they grill the biscuit, but imo that step is not needed if you have a good tasting gravy. We will be back. Great, fast,service, hot food, all hard to find these days. read more

Very good breakfast food. Eggs and hash browns were cooked perfectly! And the blueberry pancakes were also delicious! The meal I ordered came with meat and I asked if I could substitute it for a cup of fruit which they did no problem! Service was pretty good considering they were swamped for a Sunday morning. It did take awhile to be acknowledged when we sat a "we'll be with you shortly" would have been nice just because we felt out of place -- we weren't sure if we were supposed to seat ourselves (you are). Although we've only been there for breakfast, we've tried the sea salt caramel and pecan french toast, the 2 egg and bacon meal, and the breakfast burrito with avacado and jalapeno cream cheese. We've been here many more times, but we've always ordered the same 3 things because they are so wonderfully great! This place has great service, never had to look for a coffee refill and has the ambience of an oldtime diner! Love it and will certainly return many more times in the future!! You've gotta like a little place (actually not so little) tucked into a strip mall that knows who it is and creates good food delivered with a smile. We tried Keystone Kafe out on a weekend morning, and clearly others thought about coming as well. It was PACKED. Their menu wasn't messy and showy but a straightforward and thorough presentation of what you might be hungering for at breakfast or lunch. Nothing foo-foo, basic American breakfast and several choices from burgers to burritos for lunch. You know what really made us smile? The old-fashioned coffee mugs! LOVED THEM. Thick mugs that warm your hands and keep your coffee/tea hot. It said, "home," to us. Old School, indeed! Eggs were perfect, bacon was meaty and crispy yet tender, hash browns had a nice crunch, no complaints whatsoever (except that there was no orange marmalade) from our table. We've already made plans to return and prices were reasonable to boot. :-) read more

We have been to the Keystone Kafe three times on the Fox42 Breakfast Tour, with our first visit being in July and our last visit today. The restaurant is located in a small non-descript strip mall in the Keystone area of Omaha off Military Ave. The mall has a large parking lot and there is no signage on Military Ave., so it is relatively easy to miss if you didn't know that it was in a strip mall. Making things more interesting is the fact that if you are westbound on Military, there is a divider that requires you to enter the shopping center from Templeton Dr. on the east side of the strip mall. There is no way that you can see any indication of the Keystone Kafe before you have to turn on to Templeton Dr. We have found it to be a small and very friendly restaurant, where many customers are repeat customers and know the staff. When you walk in, you choose your own seating, no formal "Wait To Be Seated" here, the waitress will find you very quickly with a welcoming "Good Morning, would you like some coffee?" The Fox42 Breakfast Tour has a Prix Fixe Menu, in the case of the Keystone Kafe, it was either their Potato Casseroles or Omelets: Ham/Broccoli/Onion, 3 meat-Ham/Bacon/Sausage, Mexican-Chorizo/Chili/Cheese. During our visits we had the 3 meat-Ham/Bacon/Sausage, Mexican-Chorizo/Chili/Cheese Omelets. During all visits the food was prepared consistently, as shown by the associated pictures. Come hungry, because you get your money's worth in food and it tastes good too. I think this is a restaurant that we will be returning to, even without the tour card. read more

My wife and like to try new places, found this place on Yelp. This place is bad. We went there on a Saturday morning, got the menu our drinks, then sat there for over 10 minutes without any service. The table behind us got coffee twice. We got up and left. They were not very friendly at all. I would not recommend the place to anyone. We'll never try it again. Great breakfast for reasonable cost. When I went on a Saturday morning at about 7:30, there was a table of 10 in progress and a few other patrons dining. I took the only booth available that had been cleared of dishes but unfortunately, the table wasn't very clean (no food pictures this time around). The waitress immediately announced that she was the only one working, but she was quick to get my order in (delivered by the cook) and got my cup of coffee poured. Another waitress didn't come in until shortly before I left about 1 hour later. All in all, the food was as expected, and while I wished I could've gotten a refill on my coffee, I cannot blame this as a service deficit given the fact only one person was working to take the orders, serve, and process checks on a busy Saturday. read more

I don't really know how to describe this place. It seems awkwardly located in a strip mall so unless you know about the place you wouldn't expect it to be where it is. I just had pancakes, hash browns bacon and coffee. It wasn't really anything i couldn't do at home. If you're in he mood to get out and let someone else cook breakfast, this is a good place to go. Amazing bacon, perfectly cooked golden brown, perfectly to my taste and generous slices to boot! My friend and I could not stop marveling at our servings of bacon. Honestly, I've never had better bacon anywhere! They either overcook tiny wimpy pieces or partly cooked them at other restaurants. The hash browns were cooked crispy on the outside and buttery soft on the inside, I crave them as I speak. Next time I go back I want to try their omelettes. While I understand and respect that Shayne Fili and Mark Beacom are really trying to breathe life into the Keystone area, this café just fell short for us. My husband and I also wondered if they are owners/co-owners of this café, as they run the auctions and flea market venue. The interior is everything that you would expect in a small café. The problem for us, essentially, was the price and the portions. I got some hash brown concoction that was not sized proportionally for it being over $8.00. I don't think that the cinnamon rolls are made on-site, as they looked pre-made. My husband was disappointed that the potato casserole was not listed as being sliced potato's, not that it is a big deal, as I pointed out: there really was no description at all. Our bill was around $30 for breakfast, which seemed unreasonable for a breakfast joint. After we got done eating, our server was sitting at a table by the kitchen and, while she was sweet and nice, didn't pre-bus until I was already up at the register paying. I kind of hoped that she would've pre-bussed earlier than that. That is kind of the standard server procedure, but I also have to remember that she may have gotten there early that morning and was simply tired. This is what gives the low start rating. After we left, just getting into the car, I notice a real funky taste left in my mouth. Like a cleaning chemical taste. I wondered if there was some residue left in my coffee cup. It was definitely the deal breaker. I have continued to wonder all week what the hell was in the cup. I love small businesses, and I love a good breakfast joint, but this one is more for the Keystone area people. I will not be back. read more

Walked in and were immediately greeted by Mary and felt like I was walking into the kitchen at home. Clean place, comfortable, and good crowd. Food: We had the veggie omelet special, and a breakfast burrito. Both were served hot, not too large of a portion, just right. Presentation was excellent, and the omelet was homemade. Veggies were tasty and still had a bit of raw left in them, which I like. Burrito was great, and the salsa seemed homemade as well. We sat here for 10-15 min and no one acknowledged our presence. A waitress who finally saw us was helping another table when she finally made eye contact me with as I looked at her. Then and only then our waitress came over to apologize for the wait. One we were never acknowledged, period. Two we watched you for 10 min walk around us and chit chat with your fellow waitresses and drop off orders at other tables. Did I mention a to go order was taken by a walkin customer and 4 phone calls? I totally understand retail/ restaurant, I've worked it before. A small town cafe feel. Great little place for breakfast and lunch! Large variety on the menu and prices are excellent! I must admit I didn't even get to look at the lunch menu for future reference, I was stuck on deciding on just one item for brunch, before I decided I just need to come back once a week to try everything! Homestyle cooking, classic breakfast items and special items like chorizo sausage and gravy or an Italian omelet. A few items have meal size options also.
