The local health food market is a quite majestic building; it's not far from the old downtown area…read more These characteristics are atypical of such stores (of which I have patronized many), which are usually in the sticks. I did find the prices high, if not unexpectedly so in most cases. I did find strange variation in sale items; some were substantial discounts, while in another case I saw a roughly $8 item "on sale" for twenty cents off, which seems bordering on a sort of unethical deception. The selection of produce was not huge but looked nice; this being Knoxville they had more meat than plants it seemed. Various natural and organic brands popped up. I always try to support the local businesses and I got a few things. This does seem to have a co-op structure so locals who really want to be in regularly might consider buying in.

Huge fan of this Happy Holler staple. Has such a wide variety of vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free,…read moredairy-free, and straight from the local farm/vendor goods. The best part, the price is pretty competitive with grocery stores in the area. There is a hot/cold bar to grab lunch and sit in the indoor dining area or outside on their shaded patio. They also have a huge variety of grab-and-go pastas, wraps, salads, and sandwiches and a coffee bar with all the fixin's. The above is all awesome, but I head in here for the bulk items. Have a small amount of a rarely-used spice needed for a recipe? CHECK. Want to grind some fresh almond butter or coffee? GOTCHA COVERED. Dried fruits? YUP! (dried papaya are my family fave). Variety of healthy granolas, grains, and baking items in bulk, too. There is easy parking with their own little lot, friendly service, a discount membership program ($25 per year), and a punch card discount when you use reusable bags. Can't wait to come back.

Shoutout to the wonderful, kind, and knowledgeable Holly, who assisted us for our visit. Their tea is high-quality, and you can taste the care that goes into crafting each cup. The atmosphere of the shop is welcoming, homey, and the people here are so nice and knowledgeable about the products they carry and offer. Loved seeing the different items for sale that are created by various local artisans, too. There is plenty of cozy seating inside as well as a few dog friendly patio tables outside. The visit was relaxed and enjoyable - really a perfect place to unwind with your favorite cuppa. We thoroughly enjoyed the "Knox Fog" (a delicious take on a London Fog) and the "Butter Pecan Latte" (which was SO GOOD with nutty tones). If you're a fan of tea or looking to try something new, I highly recommend stopping by Tonya Rea's Herbal Tea Shop. You won't be disappointed!

It really is little things like this that keep me happy. This Farmers' Market is located in the UT…read moreGardens on Neyland drive and is literally just a stone throw from where I work. It operates every Wednesday (closed in the winter months) from 4PM- 7 PM. I've walked across the street a handful of times to indulge in the pleasure of getting local products from the hardworking farmers/craftsmen in the area. It is not as big as the Market Square Farmers' market but it has a good representation of produce, food, plants, crafts and a handful of other random things. The Tootsie food truck actually also shows up here sometimes, although they are not consistently there. Quite a few of the vendors are actually not represented at the market downtown so it is nice to get some variety. What inspired this review was the heavenly sandwich I got yesterday. I had been stuck at work all day, didn't bring lunch and I had no idea when I was going to be able to go home. I realized it was 5 PM on a Wednesday and decided to grab a late lunch/early dinner. The Tootsie truck was not there but this wonderful Vietnamese stand had warm food. I had actually not noticed their stand before yesterday. I got a vegetarian banh mi sandwich that totally knocked my socks off. I don't actually remember a sandwich that was that good and only cost $5.00. I went back to work and tried to get everybody I could find to go buy one. They also had egg rolls (which were a little on the oily side), fish tacos and pork banh mi sandwiches. That meal was definitely a lifesaver and it was delicious. I really like the convenience of this Farmers' market and I encourage anyone close to campus to consider visiting. It is in a well shaded area and provides an opportunity to walk around and appreciate the beauty that is the UT gardens. It is also a wonderful opportunity to buy and support local!
