Meh. Short story: so so customer service, large menu, both of my drinks tasted like sugar. This shop has all the window dressing of a good boba spot, but did not deliver for the two drinks I tried. Firstly, look up the menu ahead of time. There are a lot of choices. Some, not usual for most boba places. (Oreo, as a topping option for all drinks) Knew I wanted a Thai tea. Asked the counter person to recommend some other popular drinks. Should have specified something different from the milk based Thai tea. Oreo shake was the one suggestion. My interaction wasn't the best. Counter person looked slightly upset I asked for recommendations, even after hearing it was my first time there. Went with a honey dew option. My Thai tea had almost no flavor. At least not the flavor I was looking for. It was creamy and sweet. My Honeydew smoothie/slushy. Creamy and sweet. Boba was fresh. Didn't finish either. We then proceeded to order some appetizers: Taiyaki- red bean fish-shaped cake and something savory and Takoyaki- Octopus Balls. We we're in the Knoxville Tennessee area and Kung Fu Tea came highly recommended to us for Boba tea. Kung Fu Tea is supposed to be the bubble tea specialist in the area, who specialize in hot and cold drinks, coffees and slushy's. This is a franchise establishment but this particular location off of I40 is extremely crowded and they are slow with making the drinks. Knox has Kung Fu Tea?! What. How has this not come up on search? I kid you not, my husband and I were driving out of Lowe's (in the area) and I saw the "Kung Fu Tea" sign and I screamed.. haha. So my husband has mentioned bubble tea for several months. We enjoy drinking tea, but I didn't understand the concept of bubble tea. It just didn't make sense in my head. I was picturing tea with some kind of carbonated liquid. So we tried it out for the first time and it was pretty good. It is not what I expected at all. The bubbles are actually little chewy balls at the bottom of your tea. I would recommend you to stir your drink before you drink it so you can have bubbles throughout and not just at the end. Here at Kung Fu yea, they have the option of choosing 30% sugar, so I happily went with it. What really surprised me was how sweet my drink still was. Definitely one of the best if not THE best boba milk tea you can get in Knoxville. Store is small but cute. Boba pearls cooked just to the right texture. I pretty much only drink black milk tea aka their Kungfu Milk Tea so I can really only vouch for that. But from experience, usually if the original milk tea is delicious, the rest don't fall too far from it. Needless to say, the flavor is right on the dot. Definitely my go to spot for boba drinks when I'm in town. As for their food items, I don't really care too much for them. Not a fan of red bean desserts so taiyaki is out of the equation. Takoyaki is okay but WAYYY too salty. Don't know if I just got unlucky and ended up getting the bottom bit of the batter stock, but they definitely don't need to add salt, especially with the salty dashi stock mixture and the copious amount of bonito flakes. read more
