I love a local gift shop, but Bradley's is so much more than that! What started as a chocolate shop…read morein 1995 has expanded into a local hub for Knoxville gifts, as well as jewelry, home decor, stationary, candles, baby goods/gifts, and an in-house chocolatier. They even create beautiful gift baskets for any possible special occasion. This is the type of spot I could spend hours in with a smile on my face, although they do have a user-friendly website that allows you to shop and order online with the option of both shipping or store pickup, too. While I could have purchased the entire store and died happy, I opted for chocolate this time around. After watching chocolate being made next door (glass windows inside the store that look into the "chocolate factory" area), I knew I needed to try the dark chocolate STAT! The workers behind the counter were so darn sweet (pun intended) and helpful. They offered samples galore and recommendations when asked. I ended up ordering dark chocolate caramels, nonpareil dots, peanut butter melts, and turtles. Everything was incredible, but my husband and I have been dreaming about the dark chocolate caramels (the round, gooey version...we didn't try the chewy caramels yet). I grew up obsessed with Sno-Caps candy, and their Dark Chocolate Dots are heavenly. The chocolate is just such good quality, better than any other chocolate shop I've tried thus far. Can't wait to go back for both sweet and gifts for loved ones.

More importantly, it's totally worth it. We got a box of goodies and they were all fantastic. You can taste the quality of the products they use. You can taste the butter. It's just lovely. My husband also really liked his latte. We sat inside and ate some of our goodies. We took the rest home for my mum for Mother's Day. My family loved them, too. Nice space. We also bought some whole wheat flour as a gift while there. Will absolutely go back when I'm in the area.

If I'd had more time, I would have loved hanging out here for a while. I only managed to get here about 45 minutes to close, so their selection was understandably if somewhat disappointingly quite picked over. I wound up with a cranberry oat scone and a blueberry and raspberry hand tart. The employee was very pleasant and warm. I appreciated her eagerness to help and positive attitude despite my late arrival. The baked goods sadly didn't really live up to my expectations. The cranberry oat scone was the much better of the two; it was pleasantly sweet and had the proper scone texture and only a little dry. Unfortunately, the hand tart had several edges that I discovered later had been burnt. This impacted the flavor of the whole item and sadly diminished it greatly. The fruit filling was tasty at least, though I didn't get much raspberry from it -- mostly blueberry. I'd be down to try again in the future, just would come earlier in the day when the selection is a bit larger and the products available are a bit more "choice," let's say. I appreciated the kind service and lovely vibes!

The shop itself is small but mighty. Super kind staff who will give you any info you request. There are candles, plates, cards, and a few local gifts for sale, alongside all of the tasty treats. There are cookies, brownies, cupcakes, single cake and cheesecake slices and full size cheesecakes for sale. My favorites are the oatmeal sammie and the PB cheesecake. I normally avoid sugar cookies but their version with the sanding sugar is too notch! We definitely prefer the storefront, as the items are super fresh and I love that they carry the single servings. Whenever we are downtown for work, this is our stop. When you get something from the Kroger Magpie's selection, it will either be a full size cheesecake or a sampler box of cookies or bars/brownies. It is hit or miss as to how fresh the items are here. This location now refrigerates the sammies, too, which seems to dry them out quickly. Bummer. From either location, we definitely prefer the cheesecakes, pies, and cookies to the actual cake. Either way, support this local gem!

I've had king cake from places like Dong Phuong so my standards for king cake can be pretty high. Ordering online was easy, pickup went smooth (the inside of magpies is cute and everyone working was very nice), and the cake itself was delicious! I got the cream cheese and it wasn't dry at all and tasted just like a piece of Louisiana. My biggest complaint is that I have to wait another year to get it again! But that's okay just means I'll have to try some of the other treats that magpie offers now that I know how good they are at what they do.
