I have been coming to this spice & tea exchange shop for years and it's one of my absolute favorites. Today it was super busy because they're having an event down in Mystic, so I made it a quick trip, but I was able to find some awesome Harry Potter inspired tea bundles. They have them for all houses so if you're looking for a great stocking stuffer, check out my pic on what you can get the HP lover in your life. I always find the best teas here like creme brûlée or bread pudding. They're out of the box and delish. The staff at this location are the best too which is why I love stopping into this location in particular. read more

This is a great specialty store to stop in when strolling down the streets of Mystic. There is a huge variety of teas, spices, salts--so many different kinds! My friend was able to find a spice she just cannot get at the grocery store. They also have some packaged dried ingredients to make soups, dips, sauces and more. It is worth a stop! read more

Really cool. I'm disappointed I forgot to take pictures inside the store. But, they have teas, spices, salts, mixes, in a TON of flavors -- more than you knew existed. With fairs being closed this year (my favorite!), I figured I could try to make some other cool stuff at home and decided on these two mixes. Really cool staff and prices weren't outrageous. $15 total for both of the mixes. read more

This is a lovely store and they had so many choices for tea and spices. I walked in and was pretty much overwhelmed by the variety that they had. The store is really lovely with all of the products displayed. Someone came up to me immediately and asked if they could help me which was really nice. I explained that I was looking for something for my daughter for Christmas and that had a little variety. She showed me around the store and the different choices for sizes and multi packs and gift packs. I told her that I was interested in a fall seasoning and tea and she directed me right to the area where they were located. I chose a few different teas for my daughter and I know that she will love them. read more

I'm happy we stumbles upon this loose tea shop while sightseeing in town. I was searching for a gift for my mother and found a very nice tea infuser and some interesting teas for her. My mother loves tea and they offer a very large variety of teas. We bought some turmeric tea for ourselves as well and they also have all of the accoutrements necessary to make your tea time as fact as you wanna. This is a cure shop and the staff is very informative and available to answer any questions you may have. read more

The place has a lot to offer but the prices are ridiculous. I love the shop and would shop here all the time if it weren't so expensive. Be reasonable you buy your stuff in bulk and don't hide it I know the stuff they have here is not all high quality spices and the owner is trying to pass it off as just that. Most of the containers come from a wholesale market or food supplier. Good job on keeping the place in order and having an inviting shop but step up the quality or lower your prices. I'm not saying everything sucks here I'm just saying don't get duped and the inflated prices are ridiculous.... I purchased some things from here but I think I will stick with my spice stores in ny and Philly read more

Noticed their sign and decided to go in. Walked in to an amazing scent and the warmest staff welcoming us and encouraging us to sample and smell any and all items that they have on display. We spent the next hour going through their selection of seasoning, spices, teas and herbs. Since I love to cook and experiment in the kitchen, ended up purchasing quite a few of their different seasonings and spices to use. And being huge tea drinkers, my girlfriend and I bought quite a few different kinds of teas they had. Needless to say, they saw us coming a mile away. I can't believe I have never seen this place in all of my Mystic visits, but it is permanently on my radar now. I wandered in, forgetting that the latest PBS cooking show I watched put Sumac spice in mind. The salesperson helped me identify the Middle Eastern spice I was after, and cheerfully packaged a small pouch of the tangy stuff for me. Then I saw their cute little wood and cork topped bottles, and got the wood top for a mere $3.99 to store my sumac. Then a Palestinian-Egyptian customer from Texas approached to educate me on using the delicious spice, and now I am armed with sumac, ideas for cooking it so it doesn't age without enjoying, and a little jar to keep it fresher. And, Julie Tabouli's schwarma recipe is my first target. I shall return--often--and next time will look at teas--of which there is an abudance here. read more

Super impressed! Went Sunday at 10am ish, they haven't opened yet, went to another store (unimpressive), came back Sunday at 5:30 and they had closed, came back Monday am and they were finally open. I was very dedicated to go inside as from the window it looked great! And I'm so happy we did. It's more than just tea (my sole purpose of going). The clerk was so helpful, friendly and able to answer my many questions. She also bagged me up some spices I wanted (by the oz vs a whole bottle). I got many tea leafs, and my husband spices (when he didn't even want to go in at first). I can not wait to try the teas (May update the review then). read more

The Spice & Tea exchange is magical. Dozens of specialty teas, flavored salts, sugars, and spices galore. I picked up a small container of applewood smoked salt which is SO INTENSE. Even though it was kinda pricey for what it is, I'm sure that this will last for a really long time. I also snagged a bag of blood orange looseleaf tea and some kind of chamomile medley. Overall, the store is set up beautifully and literally wall to wall with fragrant, high quality flavorings. So glad I wandered in here! read more

Ah-ma-zing. The gah-lic dip was an explosion of taste inside the mouth. The olive oil spice dip is to-die-for. Mix it up with the bread to surface the spice blend, then dip -- wow. Sooo good. While a little pricier than the usual spices and dips we find in most supermarkets, the Spice & Tea Exchange does quality best. They make their spices in-store, in a corner set up that all customers can see. Pity I did not buy that day as I was simply window shopping while in Mystic but I will definitely be back to take advantage of those scrumptious items. Everyone was also helpful and friendly. I did not feel judged when I was sampling the goods. If you are a serious cook like me (not a Chef, just an enthusiast), and find one of those days where you are running out of time and/or ideas, having spices at the ready from this shop should see you through. Teas, pure ground and whole spice, blends, peppers, mixes and sea salts. Pricey prices are by the ounce-point-five, and the premium comes from sheer selection. Wall after shelved wall chock full o' the stuff. Pay special attention to the salt selection, which infuses mostly Himalayan sea salt with anything from bacon to Naga Jolokia, the infamous ghost chili. Named for what it creates. Also, if there's a serving board or vessel, mortar or pestle on the market, you'll probably find it or a knock-off in the shop. Kids will stand transfixed in front of the cocoa mix assortment, so if they behave, buy 'em an ounce. It's the Dealer Code. Staff are almost plastic with all their smiling, and the foot traffic to tiny Mystic's center is constant. Check the bridge, snort some Ceylon cinnamon and bear witness to the largest collection of baggies this side of the law. read more

First off, I rate this place 5 stars for the wonderful bearded guy who was not only friendly, but clearly had knowledge on the products. I love when an employee will know everything about the product sold in their store. That makes me feel more comfortable buying from them....and yes, I will order from them on-line. Second, I love the freshness of the spices and teas. I wish I lived closer to this store! But I feel comfortable ordering from them on-line. I ended up buying one of their teas...the chocolate covered strawberry. I love pu'er tea and this one did not let me down! The flavor is wonderful and the tea is perfect. I will make a return trip here at some point.....but until my return I will order more on-line. Definitely a great place to patron! Big love to the wonderful staff. read more

Before taking a trip to Mystic for the afternoon, I scoped out Yelp to see if there were any business I did not want to miss. Since I enjoy cooking and using sometimes hard-to-find spices, I was eager to check out The Spice and Tea Exchange. Upon actually visiting the business, I was a bit disappointed with the overall selection and prices, and left empty handed. A significant portion of their offerings are pre-blended spice mixes. I can understand why some are tempted to use these, and will buy pre-mixed spice blends or pastes on rare occasions myself. But, typically, if going to a shop like The Spice and Tea Exchange, I would rather have a wider selection of hard to find herbs and spices so that I can create my own seasonings. read more

Places that sell quality teas and spices are subject to each customer's personal ideas of what the place "should be", so this is in my view.... The place wasn't too large or small. Well lit shop and helpful clerks. We were told to use the spoon to freely sample the specialty sugars they offered. They had enough toys to make any tourist happy. Awesome unique place to get your hard to find spices. Buy 6 get 7th free. If I lived a little closer I would be a regular. Pleasant and helpful staff. Little samples set up for you to taste. They also have great teas and accessories. If you enjoy cooking and love to use different spices this place is a must try if in the area. The store is filled with interesting tea combinations, flavored salts, and other spices. Everything is very nicely packaged and displayed, and there are samples and recipe cards throughout the store. The staff was very informative and helpful. We bought a few small items (we were looking for salt for a specific purpose and bought a few samples) and the store had a small tool on display. At the register, we asked about it. It was the last one and the owner gave it to us. We are customers for life. read more

Love this place!! So much to look at and choose from! I love that everything is in jars so you can either buy bulk or in pre measured packaging. Everything also seems very fresh. I bought 3 different kinds of tea plus an ice tea mix that included one do their sugars. My family members purchased dipping oil spices and some salts. I love to cook and am always looking for new rubs for my meats. This place has it all. Spices, tea, sugar, salts. Way better selection that your run of the mill grocery store. The staff is super helpful and can give you tips on how to use the spices for cooking certain meats ect. You can actually open the jars up to smell the spices. I got a couple of packets for home. This was a neat and unusual store. It is right next to the bridge in Mystic, so it was easy to reach while walking around window shopping. The store was very clean and wasn't so overfilled with stuff that you couldn't get around like a lot of other stores that I have been in recently. The workers there seemed friendly and helpful. I had been in here a few times to purchase loose teas & honey for myself & also to make little gift baskets during Christmas time. Then I won a huge wooden box filled with products from The Spice & Tea Exchange that they had given our school for the annual Basket Raffle. It was filled with spice grinders, flavored salts and sugars, loose teas, pre mixed seasoning packets for pizza, popcorn, dips, olive oil- oh it was all so mazing I can't live without any of it now LOL I love everything in this store! It has made our food more delicious and flavorful (: My favorite spice grinder that I use the most is the Kahuna Garlic Salt Spice Blend. The loose teas are very fresh & bursting with flavor, I made iced tea all summer with them as well. I can't recall the woman's name that has helped me on multiple occasions- ahg I'm awful with names :/ but she is very nice, helpful and knowledgable of all of the products as well. read more

Fun place with interesting items. I've bought things here as gifts for friends and they have asked me for repeats! The people here are uber friendly and the only problem I had once was with a spice grinder top not living up to the life span I thought it should. They very cheerfully handed me another no questions asked. Can't get better service than that. read more
