Food and service are wonderful! The dosas are made quickly to order and flavorful! Prices are also very reasonable, and it's a great equivalent to JC. The interior is very calm and soothing. The sambar and coconut chutney were the perfect accompaniments to the masala dosa. I also want to point out that some dosa places skimp on the filling, but Woodlands cafe does not! I also tried their pani puri and found it to be excellent. Street parking does not deter me from returning to this hidden gem! read more

Guys this is THE spot to go to! Especially for dosas- I got the masala dosa and it was amazing. My mom ordered the onion chilli rava dosa and loved it as well. The food tastes really fresh and the staff are really friendly and inviting! Definitely reccomend this place! read more

Stopped in one evening for a late dinner. We were so appreciative because we were new to the area and were just trying to find somewhere that would have pretty good vegetarian food nearby. They were about to close as we rushed to the restaurant to get some last minute south-indian and chaat food for the day, and they welcomed us in. For that alone I would say they have amazing customer service and were SO nice. The only reason I'm docking a star is because the bhel puri that I ordered was a bit stale - but she did tell me that the chaat food might not be the best to order that late. I think their south indian food is the best - their portion size was great for the price and the uttapam was so good. The sambar was my favorite - it wasn't too spicy, salty, or oily, which are usually one of the three that always make me leave the sambar behind. This one I finished! They catered to my Jain parents dietary restrictions also which I thoroughly appreciated. I would definitely support this local joint and think their strength is in south indian food! read more

What a pleasant surprise. We were craving dosas while in North Jersey and this place seemed to be on the way home to Staten Island. When you walk in, the owner is super helpful and attentive. He helped guide us to just the right recommendations that fit our needs and our tastes. The dosas and curries are something I crave again as I write this. Home sweet Dosa. This place has some really delicious food whether you are vegetarian or not (I'm not). But I find myself craving this place at times after a while of not coming here. My favorites include the butter masala dosa, spring dosa, medu vada, and the vermicelli dessert! Lately, I feel like there has been less masala in the dosa than the full amount, but it has still been delish I only wish that they would use real plates/utensil/cups. When dining in, the styrofoam and plastic cutlery really takes away from the full dining experience and enjoying the food to the fullest as its not as easy to eat/share using plastic/styrofoam, not to mention it creates a lot of waste. I don't know if it was always like that, but I feel like that simple upgrade would make this restaurant feel as homey the way it is decorated. read more

There's a Woodlands in FL that's phenomenal so I thought this was another location that had the same food. They had pretty much the same food and overall, everything was really good. The pani puri was okay, the water tasted like they used the packet instead of with fresh ingredients. The chole puri was amazing. I could eat that everyday for the rest of my life and without complaint. The sambar that came with the dosa and the coconut chutney thing was really, really good. The dosa itself was crispy in some places, soggy in others. I've never had a soggy dosa before. Hopefully I just got a bad dosa and it's usually crispy, but I wont order that if I go there again. Their mango lassi was deff made from those huge cans of mystery "mango" pulp, so maybe dont order that if you arent into it. Deff recommend this joint (but not their dosas). read more

This is one of those underappreciated somewhat unknown place in a resendential neighborhood that only people living there would be aware of. It is a small family owned restaurant and has been affected by Covid-19. I've been here only twice but the food has never disappointed. They have crispy dosas and fresh upma. They also have other franchises in Florida which I have tried and the food is really good there. read more

Service 4.5/5: staff was very attentive and took and additional items we wanted to order in a very expeditious manner Ambience 3.5/5: the front portion of the shop is well kept but there is a back side that seems to be an overflow room with lot of random inventory and unorganized things. My family and I come here often for our dosa fix. I'm glad that there's a good dosa place close enough and we don't have to drive all the way to JC or Edison. This place has a wide variety of South Indian menu options and each of them tasty. They make their dosas crispy and cater to your variety of requests. The only thing that was lacking was customer service but that was only cause there was only one man manning orders, the phone, and new customers coming into the restaurant. I felt bad for him because more and more people and calls kept coming as the night wore on. The complimentary rasam they give in the beginning is spicy so watch out! The dosas are really tasty. I think the pav bhaji dosa is one of my faves. Definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

We had a takeout of pav bhaji. Because there are no good indian restaurants nearby who serve pav bhaji and we were craving for it. And it was highly disappointing.. we had to discard it. It had only mashed potatoes in tomato gravy.. i doubt they even added pav bhaji masala to it. Was happy to see an indian restaurant with good reviews but no use.. maybe they only specialize in South Indian cuisine but then it's better not to serve other dishes which you don't know how to prepare. It ruined our dinner, our moods and overall experience. Definitely not going back. read more

We came here with a big appetite for south indian food but instead had to leave without finishing any of our food. The main problem was all the dishes we ordered were dripping with oil. Started with Medu wada which seemed like it was double fried and hence was very very oily. The chutneys were no good. Next came the Mysore Dosa and Masala dosa. Again both were full of oil and all sides were almost burnt. Lacked taste. Non of the accompaniments- Sambhar, chutneys had any flavor. They use styrofoam plates/bowls and plastic cutleries which in my opinion should be done away with. I don't think I would come back or recommend this place to anyone. read more

I was not a happy camper going to this restaurant! The food wasn't all that great, the presentation of the food killed me and the portions was very small. My family and I go in. The waiter brings plastic untensils didn't think anything of it. Later on brings a plastic cup and then I started to think "WTF?!". We place our order for food and I lost it! Everything was brought out in styrofoam plates and dishes. I wasn't at a BBQ to eat in that. I was at "restaurant". You live, you learn but I know I won't be going there for vegan food. Happy Cow failed me big time on this one. Just giving everyone that goes a heads up so you won't be shocked like I was. read more

This is a small restaurant that serves delicious food and services are very quick. All the tables were filled up on a Sunday noon. We got medu vada, idli, onion chili uttapam, sev puri and samosa chat, mysore coffee and paan. We were not disappointed with anything. Everything here was very authentic south indian, served fresh and hot. I wish they served in plastic, acrylic, steel or ceramic dishes instead of styrofoam dishes. I highly recommend this restaurant for it's delicious south indian food. read more

Went there last night for dinner. For an Indian restaurant the place was really good. I had the pav bhaji Dosa and my boyfriend had the butter masala dosa. We also tried the samosa chaat. The chaat could have definitely been better, and I felt the dosa lacked salt. I live in Jersey City, so I've had some good dosa, however, I enjoyed the spice level at woodlands. It was perfect. Will definitely go back ! read more

This place is a terrible representation of Indian food. I decided to give this place because of the good reviews. We ordered couple of masala dosa, idli, medu vada and puri. Every dish was terrible. The idli was obviously allowed to sour to much. The sambar and chutneys had no flavor. The puri was a fried chapati- not a puri. The masala dosa had a dry coating inside and no flavor. The medu vada could not meet the criteria for medu vada. It was a strange flat greasy donut. The dishes were not edible. We left after a few bites. None of us had anything good to say about the food. Even the water tasted off- definitely tap/ filter needs to be changed. The food was all served on the cheapest plastic dishes, along with plastic cups and forks. Honestly, I would not have even cared except the food sucked so bad. If I could give a negative star I would. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Woodlands is a barebones restaurant, but I knew that coming to the place. We were greeted by friendly faces. We got a few dishes to share: - Papdi chaat - it was a good mix of textures and flavours of spice and sourness, but the dish lacked vegetables (eg. onions) and more chickpeas - Mysore Sada Dosai - it wasn't that crispy, the only crisp parts were on the edges. As you work your way towards the center of the dosai, it was rather soggy even though there was no filling. However, the coconut chutney that came with the dosai was delicious! It went well with the spice of the dosai (even though it wasn't spicy). - Vegetable Uthappam - taste-wise, it was a solid uthappam, but it did look a little sad. Its taste that matters right? The sambar that came with both dishes was rather mediocre, it lacked filling and flavour. read more

I've eaten here once with my Indian friend who is vegetarian, which is why I chose it at first. But, now I have ordered the dosa from here multiple times. Let me tell you, I am in love with this place. Woodlands Cafe has South Indian vegetarian cuisines. It is situated in Garfield with street parking in a residential area. The place is small but has adequate seating. The inside appears average. The staff is very friendly even if you aren't Indian, which I loved. The food is what really got me though. I always order the Onion Rava Masala Dosa. I love the coconut sauce that comes with it because it pairs beautifully. The portion is large and I cannot finish it each time I've ordered it. However, I am happy to save it for later to enjoy the full deliciousness. There are definitely other food choices, but I honestly love the onion rava masala dosa so much that I keep getting it. I also get the gulab jamoon which tastes great but it's a shame to pay $4 for only two pieces when you know how addicting they are and should honestly get at least one or two more for the price. However, the dosa here is great and highly recommend this place. read more

When their previous location closed I was truly devastated. When I found out they relocated it made a rather mediocre day terrifically fantastic. Soon as I was able to, a colleague and I went excitingly went for lunch and it was just as good as I remembered. While I went during their opening there was no buffet so we over ordered and took the rest for take away. My fatter isn't that savvy with Indian cuisine, and never had southern yet but he really enjoyed it. The Rasam is so flavourful--full of spice, herbs, and heat. The dosa was definitely larger than it was but it was so fantastic. The spinach paneer was excellent and so full of flavour. I'm getting goose pimples thinking about it and really can't wait to return again (and again and again and again). read more

Their pizzas come out on planks and look like flatbreads. I had trouble deciding between the Jamaican and Birria but I ended up with the Birria. It was good but I kinda wish I went with Jamaican. Birria had a ton of cheese covering the beef and I wanted more beef on it. But the other pizza the other 3 got were pretty good, especially the Bangkok. I would return for their beef selection and to try the Jamaican pizza.

I split the Egg Curry with Coconut Rice and also the Bait Noodles with a friend and both were excellent. The egg curry was exactly what we had wanted and was so flavorful. The noodles were also good, and was a very generous portion. The owner was super nice and walked us through the menu since none of us had really had Burmese food before. I would definitely come back here the next time we're going to Gundam Planet.

Located on busy Broadway in Elmwood Park, we decided on our Christmas Eve dinner at this family-owned establishment. The reservation was easily made via OpenTable. Upon arrival as first-timers, my partner and I were greeted by the owner at Taverna Mykonos and got a table for two right away in the corner where the tables are close to each other inside their cozy, very dim-lit, and elegant dining room with Christmas music playing throughout. There's a full bar with an extensive selection of Greek wines, with approximately 80% sourced from regions across Greece, as well as other excellent choices from California and Spain. The menu featured both authentic traditional Greek dishes along with many other options. The restaurant bakes all of its bread as well as its desserts. Traditionally, the meat of choice served during a Greek Christmas meal is lamb and pork. For starters, we decided to share Keftedes (Greek-style seasoned meatballs served with tzatziki dipping sauce). For our main meal, we opted for Baby Roasted Lamb with roasted potatoes and Lamb Shank with tomato orzo. Complimentary bread started our meal, and we washed it down with a sparkling spring water product of Greece. Complimentary cookies were given to each table at the end of the meal. The food was fresh, using quality ingredients, tasty, and well-presented. We enjoyed the keftedes very much, as they were moist and complemented well with the tzatziki dipping sauce. The portion was reasonable. However, we were disappointed with the Baby Roasted Lamb, as it was mostly bones with only some pieces of edible meat. Service is professional, friendly, and fast. The cost is comparable to the area. Exchanged a few words with the owner, George, about the old neighborhood in Astoria. Opa!
