The dosa here is good and there's a pot with the sambar in it for unlimited refills which is great because thier sambar is perfection. For a dosa spot, I would highly recommend. Their chole bhatture are super good too. Everything else is very overpriced for the portions and is not worth it. The biryani costs more than the Biryani from my fav join in downtown Baltimore and is a lot less in portion size. Keep in mind this location is not anywhere nice or close to being that busy. They recently renovated and its nice but their service is just awful. They forget to bring out stuff you ordered and in the end will make you wait for the things they forgot to make. Do not go here unless you have lots of time. It takes really long for the food to come out even when the restaurant isnt at all busy. They seem to prioritize take out orders. Given how hole in the wall south Indian places tend to be, nobody is expecting amazing service but the guy behind the counter couldn't be bothered to help and acted annoyed when I asked some questions. Maybe he just had a bad day, who knows. But what really drives my rating was the food. We ordered the idli, dosai, and uthapaam. Only the dosai had any flavor and is the only reason I gave 2 stars. In most restaurants, it's just a plate of rice with 4 jumbo shrimps on top, which is so disappointing. Sofor using small shrimps that get cooked into the Briyani. We stopped by this place through the recommendation of a friend. Although parking was hard on a Friday night, we did manage to find a spot after going around the block twice. It was a nice, small restaurant that easily sat about 11 tables. There were other patrons when we arrived. When you enter, you find your own table, and then head to the counter where you let the staff member know you are there, and then you take a menu and place your order. They will call your table number once the order is ready. They provide disposable plates, napkins and utensils, as well as a pitcher of water and cups to fill up on your own. The food we ordered was good, and the plates of basmati rice were larger than expected. Living in Hackensack, this is my go to palce if I want to have reasonably priced South Indian food. I mostly order in and the food pretty decent. Average restaurant for casual dining or to have quick bite. Gravies, Curries, and Tiffin items are usually good and consistent in taste but Biryani taste differs everytime. Also, the they really need to improve the quality and taste of the Chutneys they serve. Always disappointed. We were on our way back to VA when we had craving for some Indian food. Fascinated by the concept of getting dosas & biryanis all at the same place, we popped in. The person at the order counter gave us this look, like we were some kind of aliens. He didn't even ask if we need any help with the order. We picked up the menus from the counter top ourselves and ordered Paneer Rava Dosa and Lamb Biryani, which they took around half an hour to prepare. Finally they called our order number and we grabbed the food. I noticed they didn't give me Sambhar with Dosa. I had to get up again and ask for it. Nobody told us that it was right there on the counter for self-serve according to your need. I would say, their service was not that good but we liked the food. Entrees and sides are separate. In other words, they charge you separately for ur sides to your entree. The entre itself is pricey, the location isn't so great, parking very scarce and the ambiance could be better considering how expensive the dishes are here. Now, it might be worth it, but it turned me off that a sauce like Chicken Marsala is a sauce for ~$17 and I have to pay for ~$4 for rice to go with my food. Doesn't sound fair. I placed an order for pick up through Yelp and when I got there they told me they never received it, even though my credit card was charged. How does that happen? They ended up making the food when I got there and when I got home I realized they missed one item. I then had to go back to pick up the missed item. Wasted a whole hour. On top of that the food tasted horrible! The chicken tikka was extremely salty and paneer pasanda was extremely spicy. I've ordered from here previously but the food has always been decent. I've been eating here for about 3 years now, and Dosa and Biriyani house is a clear example of the the phrase "you get what you pay for". The prices are relatively cheap compared to other Indian restaurants, and that's because they're no frills. Unfortunately the quality of the food has declined significantly in the last 3 years. You're either going to have something missing, something not cooked properly or meat that's mostly bones. Tonight's chicken tandoori was mostly bone, and the chicken 65 was a mushy mess. It's supposed to be deep fried chicken chunks, kind of like a passed app. Samosas were crispy and had a decent filling. Every item is either covered or swimming in oil; it's disgusting. They always ask you if you want to pay in cash, and the staff really isn't friendly. I'm sorry to say, but I'm going to stop eating here. I recommend steering clear of this place and paying a little more for Indian food or an Indian lunch special. read more

So sad when one of your favorite restaurants is 3000 miles from your home. I discovered this place on a recent trip to Bergen County, and did takeout from there for the third time on a new visit. I have to say: this is really one of my very favorite Indian restaurants anywhere. Nothing worse than going back to an old favorite and being disappointed. But that's not the case here - each visit has brought new flavor adventures! Even though I love the palak paneer dosa and the pesarattu dosa, I decided this time to get the south Indian vegetarian thali. They told me on the phone it was aloo baingan (then it sounded like he was saying aloo gobi), plus bhindi masala. Well, it turned out to be aloo baingan and a red paneer curry (paneer pasanda)? Even though I'd gotten excited about okra, it was still fantastic. So... a. The chai here is DELICIOUS. No comparison to coffee house chais made from concentrate. Fresh grated herbs, tons of cardamom. YUM. b. The sambar here is delicious. Soft pieces of cauliflower, carrots and other veggies in a really delicious broth. YUM. c. In the thali, to be honest, I could take or leave the dal. It was ok. It's also not my kind of yogurt they serve here; it's not raita but a sourer thicker Indian yogurt. BUT the aloo baingan was delicious. The paneer curry was delicious. and I loved the rotis and the sambar (I ordered sambar separately and was happy to get more here). Huge portion of everything for $10. Dosa House remains one of my favorite finds of the year; who knows if I'll have an occasion to come here again, but others can enjoy some food here in my honor! (unfortunately, other Indian food I've been eating elsewhere has been paling in comparison to my happy memories of Dosa House...) We ordered 2 chicken dum biryanis yesterday for the first time to be delivered to our home. We are extremely extremely disappointed by the taste. It didn't at all taste like biryani. It was all garlicky and gingery in taste. Didn't taste fresh at all. Moreover, we got only one set of salad and raita instead of two. Our tummy also got upset coz of it. We didn't expect such bad food we are sure it was stale. I took to office as well to let other people taste it and they too said it's not worth $12. I don't love this place as the food here is oily and very inconsistent in terms of taste. We do order takeouts sometime from here but dining there is not a fun experience to have. The facility is not clean and the guests don't follow any social distancing protocols either. The delivery through door dash is free to us in our area so I sometimes order their dosas if I am craving for one, eggplant curry , upma and Chole bhature. Their Mysore masala dosa is a hit or miss depending on the day, upma is consistently good, sambhar and chutney are a hit or miss as well , eggplant curry is another thing which is consistently good so far and Chole bhature are ok too. Overall the food is ok too oily sometimes not consistent that's why we stopped ordering from this place. We have ordered their other curries too but those are ok and not the greatest. I ordered cheese mysore masala dosa for takeout. The dish comes with coconut chutney, sambar, and some other type of hot sauce. All were very good, if not a bit spicy. Cool yourself with the coconut chutney. It cost $7 for all this, which I thought was fairly priced. From entering my order to walking out the door, it took a total of 10 min - not bad if you're looking for a quick meal. I'm looking forward to trying other Indian dishes. read more
