This tiny restaurant has plenty of comfy seating and a warm, inviting ambiance. We stopped in for a late lunch since we needed to be at church by five for my sister's memorial service. Although we were the only diners at the time, the phone rang nonstop with takeout orders--a clear sign of how popular this place is. The food was absolutely magnificent, and I'm so glad we chose this spot. I started with the butternut squash soup, which was divine. They give you a full bowl, and it was so satisfying I almost didn't need a main course. My sister had the lentil soup, which was equally delicious, with a bright, lemony flavor that really stood out. My aunt ordered the chicken samosas and loved them. Watching my Aunt Daisy enjoy Indian food was honestly hilarious--this is a woman who usually sticks to rice, beans, and steak, yet she couldn't stop talking about how much she loved it. For my entrée, I had the butter chicken: incredibly tender, with a creamy yet light sauce--absolutely delicious. My aunt and sister both had the shrimp tikka, which was a total triumph. My cousin Mercy ordered the chicken tikka and loved hers just as much. Our waiter was incredibly sweet, helpful, and patient, explaining the dishes and even taking a photo for us. I've been here a couple of times and have had great experiences each visit. The last time I came, I ordered the Tandoori Chicken Tikka ($17.99), which comes with rice. The chicken was really juicy and flavorful, and they give a generous portion, which is always appreciated. Ordered takeout via DoorDash. The staff was very accommodating of my Cilantro intolerance, calling several times to ensure that I was OK to consume dishes with Coriander powder. The Samosa Chaat appetizer was very flavorful and the perfect amount for two. The Garlic Naan also had good flavor, but could've been packaged differently so as to prevent it from getting soggy. The 2 lamb curry dishes were both excellent. We ordered Rogan Josh and the Lamb Korma. As with the lamb which was very tender, both curries were perfectly cooked and had the perfect balance of flavor, spice, and texture. I recently ordered from Gulab again after a long hiatus. I think the biggest reason we don't order more often is because the entrees are very saucey and don't come with as much meat as I'd expect. The prices aren't too bad though and if you have extra meat at home, you can definitely use the extra sauce to make a second day of leftovers. Both my husband and I ordered something new this time. Usually my husband orders the saag paneer but this time he tried the lamb saag. He said it was also very good (though he prefers the paneer). I tried the butter chicken this time around and it was rich but not too spicy. The other times I've ordered I've had the mutar paneer and chicken korma. In this order they also included complimentary papadum which is w crispy cracker made from chickpea flour. They gave us a whole bag full. They haven't done this with previous orders. This is something I might expect to get at the table when dining in but it was a nice touch to get with the takeout order. I hope they keep doing it and it wasn't a one time thing! First of all, let me just say this is the one of the best restaurants I've ever been to in terms of food. Absolutely delicious (especially whatever sort of kebabs you get) and to be honest it actually is quite affordable these days, especially considering the quality of the food. Well, the waiter is polite, friendly, and overall personable so you feel like you're eating at your own home, which brings me to the restaurant itself: it's kind of small but it kind of seems like everything in NYC is these days, and it reminds me of a more homey version of the average city flat. Overall you get your money's worth and this place is really underrated, I mean NYC is supposed to have great food but only a handful of places (this included) live up to the expectations. I would also add that the quantity of food you get is great, so don't feel like you should be ordering 2 chicken tikka masalas to get a livable meal, 1 of any main course meal is more than enough per person. read more

All three were amazing and flavorful. My partner got the butter chicken, which had such a warm and comforting flavor. He is also gluten free and really enjoyed the pakora. WOW! everything was just WOW. the service was on poiny - very attentive staff from water refills to wanting to make sure our little one had what he needed. The food was DELICIOUS! we got their special which includes an appetizer, meal, drink or dessert and it was all so filling that we had extra to take home for dinner. My squash soup was so tasty, I could order a huge pot of it if I could. Maybe I could? (Gotta review the menu again). I got the lamb Tikka masala , husband got the chicken Tikka masala (the winner!) and kiddo got the chicken saag. The kheer was so delicious, refreshing and well, YUMMY! Food here is on the pricier side. Portions are good, except maybe there is more rice than meat ratio, and plenty of sauce to make that less evident. Although I am not Indian by any means, I've had very delicious Indian food made by fellow friends and neighbors in the past. Gulab is no exception, but I feel once they took care of the portion versus price ratio, things would be better. Also, it was a bit brisk in there with radiators behind us to salvage the winter cold. Not bad but not great either. Came here for a lunch special. The meal was close to $20 and portion size was ok, not the biggest I had. I got a chicken dish with rice. While the flavors were good, I thought there was a lot of sauce but not enough rice or chicken to enjoy it. The place used to have southern Indian food and serve dosas but it has new ownership and no dosas on the menu anymore. I wish they did. First time ordering from this restaurant vía UberEats and we are glad we did! Turns out the restaurant opened up recently, a few weeks ago. Food is prepared freshly, and higher quality than other Indian take out deliveries that are on UberEats. Nan bread are soft and chewy. The garlic naan is flavor. However, the cheese naan could use some salt or something for more flavors. Lamb biryani dish was filled to the top, and boneless!!! Some restaurant prepares it with bones which isn't correct, and also not enjoyable when you have to fish out hard bones while enjoying the flavorful meal. Saag paneer has a good amount of cheese, and the spinach seems fresh, not puréed from frozen spinach- which I prefer!! Again, food was packed to the top, generous. The complimentary rice portion could be increased so I have enough rice to pair with the main entree. Or I'll order extra rice next time. Aloo Gobi mattar came with lots of cauliflower, sauce, and peas. My owner complaint is that I only had three small pieces of potatoes !!! Sad! I love potatoes so was hoping to find more potatoes in a dish name consisting of "potatoes". Hopefully they include more than three pieces next time, 50/50 potato/cauliflower would be ideal. This entree also came with a small portion of rice. Our vegetable and chicken samosa orders each came with two large pieces. Shells are crispy, flaky and crumbly-like. Delicious! And he's there are complimentary sauces. Kheer rice pudding was thick and creamy. I am happy to know it's not runny. Not sure if it's the recipe due to regional cuisine style... but this pudding has cashews, as opposed to raisins and cinnamon. Was craving some Indian food and happened upon this store on ubereats and oh my god it is the BEST Indian food I've ever had. The lamb biryani was my favorite the lamb is tender and not dry and the rice was perfect, typically any other place I order this they just always make it so dry, that is so not the case here. The chicken Tika masala was tasty and the samosas are ginormous. Bookmarked them on Uber they are my new go to for Indian food. Also idk if they make the sauce in house but the green sauce was so incredible and tasted so fresh and just gave that nice touch to all my dishes. For welcome food, the owner gave us papadum(crispy lentil chip) and cilantro and tamarin chutney. Wow, welcome food was amazing and made me to trust the quality of food instantly. As I expected chicken tikka masala and naan were excellent. You can choose a level of spiciness and I recommend medium spiciness for you stomach. They served the papad at the first which was simply chips with sauce on the side but when you try it the sauce it was so flavorful just wow never tried something as good as that. What a wonderful find. Superlative Indian food . The small intimate restaurant has a lovely welcoming vibe, starting with the friendly greeting you receive as you enter. The menu lists all the items ,with explanations of what they consist of and of the spiciness of certain items are. We decided to try their 3 course special, each of which consisted of an appetizer, main course, and dessert. We had the Vegetable Samosa and Pakora. With their two choices of dipping sauces, this was a magnificent start to the meal. Flavorful and quite tasty. Next we tried the Vegetable Curry and the Chicken Korma. Both are served with plentiful basmati rice. The aromas and presentation were top notch. We ordered a side of Garlic Naam bread (just an additional $4.95) which was so buttery and a perfect companion to the main meal. Once again, everything was cooked to perfection ,and each bite tasted better than the previous. So plentiful was the meal that we decided to take the remainder home , leaving us room for our delectable dessert. We both decided to have the Gulab jamun, a sweet confectionery dessert served warm in a luscious honey sauce. The final cost for our meal was quite reasonable , and we look forward to trying other items in the future as we go back again and again. They also offer a take out food, should you so desire.
