2 June 2026 - the bartender tried to steal from me. Went in for one beer while watching the dodgers game. Beer cost $6.97. That isn't the issue. ... the issue is the $4.00 charged manually TWO hours after I left that I didn't authorize. It was one beer... poured from the tap. If you expect a tip for a single beer, then you need to adjust your expectations. I know this is theft because her two friends at the bar immediately tried to recoup my expense while questioning why I "came all the way back here for $4". To which I responded, "it's not about the $4 it's about the principle and the trust. If you're encouraging her to steal from me, then how many other customers is she stealing from?" The general manager was kind enough to look through the receipts and discovered that the $4 WAS charged. He immediately reimbursed me and apologized. Went there other day.under new mgmt. Did not seem ready to take over 1. Had seafood combo for $39 . Worst than a cheap Swanson Dinner. Fish was dried out. Scallops tiny and oysters were rancid. Had to ask waitress twice for butter and sour cream for potato which was tiny. Waitress didn't remember who had what order in our party- ( hardly anyone in restaurant Gave me ranch for fish - meant for wife's salad. Had to ask for tartar sauce. Beside food being terrible except vegetable, waitress was not well trained and seemed very very inexperienced Crème Brûlée seermed pudding like and defrosted and sill cost $9. Not a good value. This review is based off of my last visit. We went on Friday 2/13 and arrive at approximately 6:30. When we got into the lobby we noticed the dinning area was closed down. The bar area was open so after waiting for 5 minutes with no greeting we walked into the bar area to see if we would at least get greeted or service. We walked in to see only 1 bartender & still were not greeted or even told we could sit there and eat etc we had no clue what was going on. It's a real treat to go to the Sportsman! We love the savory prime rib meal ( Friday and Saturday only) and when it's a really special occasion we get the lobster tail to make it surf and turf . Yummy! Our favorite servers are always working hard and are so nice . It's a rustic atmosphere and there's tvs in the bar area if we want to see the latest game. It's nice to grab weekend breakfast, they make their own syrup and it's delicious ! It takes the pancakes and French toast to another level. Things have changed since the last time I've been to this nostalgic bar apparently there is new ownership and the places changing dramatically. It's yet to be seen if it will be for the better. It also appears that they've gotten rid of a lot of their employees so the service has gotten worse. They also have decided to charge a service charge for using your credit card card. I'm almost positive. This is illegal in California under SB 478. Hopefully things will change for the better and I'll re-review in a month or so. read more

A nice quiet early evening here at Sportsman Great waitress Tasty food I got the honey battered fried chicken & that was so good!!! Even the leftovers where tasty! Not many choices of where to go especially if you happen to be staying at the Fairfield hotel next door. The ambience I would describe as tired with a tank full of orange fish who gawk at you as you walk by. The service was weird, we were originally helped by one server, then ignored as we moved tables, but helped by another server who actually had a vibrant personality. The food was good with nice portions sizes. Because of these positive points, I review with three stars but would have to be pretty desperate to return. read more

I was there and found out much to my disappointment that the owners sold this place to Syrian owners they are making renovations and making the place bigger!!! They raised the prices high on the food and I just couldn't believe it! They have changed the menu and I asked what would the menu be? They said it would be a surprise!!! The girl was absolutely beautiful and excited about the renovations and changes they were making... I loved and enjoyed the sportsman restaurant for years and their food was amazing!!! I am so sad to see it go my family and I had many exciting memories there and are saddened with the changes!!! I couldn't believe the prices on the menu and how high they are now! I most likely will not be coming by this new restaurant with the prices they have now!!! Old school baby!! Flash back to the 70's/80's! No idea if it's good for sports as the name indicates, only done take out 2 times as I was at the hotel next door. Pros: most food was good, no easy task for takeout. Prices were reasonable for good size portions. Stephanie was great, both nights included everything I needed plus. Had a chicken Caesar first night, it was great and they separated the hot chicken from my salad so it would travel well. Onion soup was good, really didn't expect it to travel well but it was good. Next night steak salad and calamari app. Calamari was great, hot and tender with variety of dice. Salad itself was good, plenty of dressing, steak....ehhh. Next door to hotel, so easy access. Cons: steak on my salad was very chewy, actually only ate a couple bites. Can't speak for other steaks but this one I wouldn't get again. Like I said, Old school complete with giant crab on the wall, leather chairs in the waiting area. If you don't want a flash back this prob isn't your place. I wouldn't go out of my way for it but when I stay at the Marriott again I'll be back. read more

SERVICE: I thought everything was nice. Literally EVERYONE appeared pleasant, respectful and engaging. Funny how rare to see this with humans as it is common for people to be self absorbed. HOWEVER, this is 55+ crowd so they have not been tainted with todays stupidity of disrespect. The waitress brought us a basket of bread - for free! I LOVE that they played live jazz music (be prepared to tip the musicians), and that there's a decent size dance floor - LOVE!!! This was the main reason for us to go because our neighbor plays in the band :) No cover charge, free ample parking, the venue is split into two (bar, live music, a few high top tables and booth seating) with one room straight in as you enter and to the right, additional both sitting for privacy, parties, etc. FOOD/DRINK: My partner in crime enjoyed his margarita. We didn't eat. Therefore, I'd have to return to edit my review. WELL: I would go back, but because of my age, it may be a bit too old for me. However, I love the idea and vibe of it. Wish I could find this with a yonder crowd :( Also, I think the prices were a hair too high for the appearance of the venue. Hmmmm I guess there was a reason I had never been to the Sportsman in the decade I've lived in the 805 and also as to why everyone I asked noted that they definitely knew what it was but had also never been based on the reviews. I was feeling brave and came here with a friend one night for a quick meal at the bar. I love a good dive and from the front of the restaurant & bar it was definitely giving that vibe. I was hoping for the nostalgia of an old school dive like steakhouse but was opened minded that if it was just a regular steakhouse bar like restaurant then cool. When I walked in though I thought I was at a community center. Large banquet style room with tables and fold up chairs. It totally threw me off. Once we got further in we did notice some standard booths and a couple of high tables. The bar looked the most inviting and "normal" so we opted to sit there as planned. On a Friday night this spot was absolutely dead. There were like two "regulars" at the bar and a couple sitting behind us. For a sport bars like atmosphere it was eerily quiet with just the slight sound of music playing somewhere off in the distance. The tunes were good though, lots of 80s throwbacks. Anyways the best thing about this spot was the waitress/bartender. She was super lovely and nice. Very attentive and welcoming. She's the reason for my two stars vs probably a one star experience. The menu is very very pricy for what was a banquet like aged restaurant with no customers on a Friday. Two appetizers and two sodas (no alcohol) ran us close to $50 after tip. It was nuts. Im a foodie and we all know I'll splurge and indulge when I go out, price is usually not an issue for me but I was genuinely floored that for no alcohol and some average appetizers the prices were so high. The menu was large so if you like variety I think you could appreciate all of the options but I just don't know if people are coming here for the more fine dining steak and seafood options. Basically I am trying to say the atmosphere doesn't fit the price point or menu. The food was fine, just above average but again, we're talking appetizers. The calamari was tasty and good portion. The ahi tuna slices was also a good portion but it didn't taste as fresh so I should have known better. I picked at it and took the majority of it to go as to not be rude. Because of how dead it was the waitress began cleaning up and closing out as the restaurant was closing at 8pm on a Friday. That says a lot to me. Again though, she was friendly and didn't make us feel rushed. I'm sure the regulars love coming here for a nice gal with good service. I'm just not sure I get the appeal and unfortunately I don't see myself coming back. read more

So in order to put a review in, I have to star it. Otherwise I would give a half star if any. Walking into restaurant was the beginning to a odd yet expensive dinner. We walked out paying a bill of $215. And some change, for 2 adults and 2 children. Our waitress came to check in on us twice if that. The second older waitress not sure if she's sportsbar/restaurant owner but her customer service is truly terrible. The food was semi decent. Dropped by this joint to meet my niece as we were going to attend a ceremony close by. This place was a double pleasure for me: first its convenient and secondly it is a chance to spend some solo time with Diane: who. because of a husband and 3 kiddoes is a busy, busy person. It was really nice and frankly quite special to spend several hours with her alone, having some appetizers and drinking some wine. This Sports Bar is in the rear of the Sportsmen Lodge. And we had to hunt for the entrance which, via signage was at the rear of the hotel. It is dark at 4-ish inside and jammed pack with all manner of IPA's and old fashioned liquor bottles plus 2 large video screens. The Bar also has a stage on which musicians perform and a large area i will assume is for dancing. Neither of these things was going on at 4 on a Wednesday of course but it gave the place a lot of ambience. Plus the 2 bartenders are nice and personable and convinced the kitchen to make us Sauteed Mushrooms and bake us off something similar to a Parker roll. The Mushrooms were made with white wine with lots of big juicy schrooms and finished with lots of parmesan. They should have been cooked a bit longer so as to soften the mushrooms more and to cook off all of the alcohol. But they were good and the juices from the wine sauce was savory with seasoning. The "Parker" rolls nicely soaked up the juices and the Hess Chardonnay washed both down very well. They have a pretty good Bar menu with fires and Potato skins and such. But the main pleasure of the late afternoon was spending time with Diane and doing it in a friendly Bar with friendly people. Lots of parking all over and around this place. Plus on the corner is a 7/11 gas station which pumps gas for 4.47 with or w/o a credit card. You can't beat that. All and all a good time, good food, better wine, great service. Cheers read more

Went here for dinner, with our grandchildren since it's next door to our hotel. The complimentary rolls were delicious. The rest of our food was also quite good. The ambience and decor feel outdated. It seemed like many of the customers were "Regulars" . The prices were reasonable. We had a "Good", but not "Great" experience.
