Had them come to fix a valve that was buried in the soil. Told them the approximate location and he dug up a 6'x6' section continually checking for noise of the valve or water running. He couldn't find it. Put the soil and turf back haphazardly. It looks terrible. The email quote said $100 an hour but he said it should be $200 an hour. I told him to leave. So I'm out $135 and no closer to fixing the problem... and my lawn looks awful. Called another company. They found it in 5 mins, a foot from the original dig, fixed it in another 5 mins and put the turf back so well I can't tell where the hole wa... and charged just $65. I would NEVER use The Sprinkler Guy again. Just a total joke. No idea what he was doing. I'd give zero stars if I could. Update: Dan got back to me but was argumentative, angry and rude. Never addressed the mess his people left of the lawn and has the attitude of "Well sometimes it doesn't work out". Never apologized just ended up hanging up on me. Wow. Should be called the "The Scammer Guy". I'm an out of state Landlord and needed someone to evaluate my sprinkler issues. When I booked the appointment I was told that they would call me before any work is to be done to confirm. I even sent them pictures of the known issues prior to the appointment. All I got was a call from Dan that the work was done, had to charge me extra and pay him immediately. He charged me $365 for a $80 Amazon part (which I know they get cheaper) and charged me $65/sprinkler head replacement that was done after the initial visit in which he confirmed that all zones and sprinkler heads where checked. Clearly, Dan took advantage of the situation and overcharged and under performed. Yes, I paid in full. Do yourself a big favor and look elsewhere. If you do go with him then make sure you double/triple check the work as they clearly do not. read more

Hi Dan, Yep, I complained about you to the BBB and the police after you screamed at me and threatened my family with violence. You told the BBB to "f" off. Of course I also contacted the police who told me they had other similar complaints about you. But because you had not physically attacked anyone that they were aware of (*at that point in time) they suggested we complain about your company and you online and that they would keep our complaint to them on file. I didn't think that was a resolution but when I saw these complaints on Yelp basically almost all of them stating something similar about your rage, threats, and unprofessionalism and attacks, I thought why not add our voice as you are obviously continuing to rage your way through life. You are the worst to date we have ever come across in dealing with a business and I'm almost 70. I can't imagine anyone wanting to be around you and I can't imagine you seeking any help. The one or two reviewers who have not seen your rage are fortunate. I do not recommend anyone "test" Dan as he will rage to the point of threatening violence for something as minor as a complaint about his billing or his unfinished or poor work. If anyone feels threatened by Dan to the point of violence, do not think that he won't act. He turns red, screams, and positions himself towards you like he is pointing a gun at you. Please stay safe and contact police if he comes to your property and begins to break things or threaten you and watch out for how he drives vehicles as he will drive recklessly when angry. I can't believe he doesn't have more reviews. I googled sprinkler winterization and called a bunch of numbers. This guy was the only one to return my call however it was October which I guess is peak season? Anyways one of his helpers came out at the stated time, blew out my sprinkler lines, showed me where he turned off the valves and gave me a $5 discount for paying cash. So final cost was $60 not too shabby for like 15 mins work :O) See you in the spring! read more

This guy does not respond to phone calls, we left numerous messages and not once did he return any of the calls. The office staff is extremely rude. Then when the appointment is confirmed, he doesn't show up. This was so disappointing as we have use him in the past without a problem. We will be using someone else from now on, since it appears that he doesn't care about repeat business. Some of his responses to customers reviews just goes to show how he is not a people oriented person. So many better options exist than this place. For starters, I was told that their trucks are fully stocked and the technicians can do the work at your first appointment. I even confirmed that I thought I had a complex repair (sent a picture as well). Well, they showed up and said that they didn't have the parts. They left without doing any work, gave me a quote for $1200 and wrapped it up by charging me a $90 site fee. He did offer to waive the future site fee of $90 if I went forward with the $1200 work within 48 hours (insert sarcasm). I ended up going with the next company on the list who charged me $800 and did a great job. As a home owner for 15 years who values my time, I couldn't have been more disappointed. Not only did they waste my time but they wanted to grossly overcharge for the work. This place is in business because Denver is growing and they are taking advantage of people. I had written a 2 star review for the sprinkler guy in error. The carbon copy in the check book looked like the first visit was over $700 but it was not. They did a sprinkler blow out and then did repair the back flow preventer. They came back to fix some leaks and had to do some serious digging and trouble shooting to get one leak fixed that was under a concrete slab. Had a guy out last month who was not able to replicate the issue I had reported, so Dan graciously sent two other techs out yesterday with no service charge, to reassess my system completely. They were not only super nice and very detail oriented, but they were great at explaining the issues and why they had been intermittent. My home is only a year and a half old, but the builder installed sprinkler has been a nightmare. I also had a very shady character show up and pretend to fix things after the great eruption occurred. I've hired this business in the past for sprinkler repair, and recently called for service. However, I was told that they no longer service my area and the person said they couldn't help us or even refer someone else. When I double-checked their website, my area was still listed so I told them that they should update their website. It turns out, as admitted by the owner in an email, that I was flagged as a no-show and no-calls-returned, but this is simply not true. There are a couple of reasons to avoid this business: 1 - You don't want to hire someone who is not honest. The person on the phone lied to me rather than courteously confronting me about the alleged no-show in their computer. 2 - You don't want to hire someone who keeps bad records. The reception person claimed that they called several times, yet my phone company keeps meticulous records of my inbound/outbound calls. No calls were ever made, no messages ever left... No honesty = no business. I hope this helps someone in deciding who they will reward with their next sprinkler needs. read more

I had an appointment with them for service between 12 and 2. No one ever showed up and I never even received a phone call. Now for the update (thus the change in rating from 1 star to 5). There was a scheduling mistake, which I honestly believe was exactly that, a mistake. Although it was a bummer, they were VERY apologetic and Dan came out the very next day. He was friendly, knowledgable and, best of all, FIXED THE PROBLEM for a very reasonable price. Yay!!! I need some additional work done on my system and will definitely have them do the work. Called and scheduled an appointment. Stan showed up and gave me an estimate for over $500. I said I needed to get a few more bids due to the cost. Stan said I owed $80.00 for the estimate. When I called to make the appointment, no one ever mentioned a minimum charge of $80.00 just to show up. Needless to say, I feel they should disclose this when making the appointment. The Sprinkler Guy really is awesome. We couldn't even get other companies to call/email us back, but Dan was able to come out within a couple days. He didn't just fix the valve the appointment was for, he tested the whole system and spent 3 hours fixing some serious problems we didn't even know about. Then he took the time to adjust the sprinkler heads for better coverage and re-program the timer so our water usage is budgeted better throughout the year. Very happy with the work that was done and the cost was totally reasonable. We'll definitely be calling these guys again and referring them to our friends as well. read more

When my yardwork company suddenly dropped sprinkler service, I didn't know what to do as the previous owners of the house installed the sprinkler system not very deep and the lawn aeration punctured a few holes in the pipe. After yelping and struggling to find someone overwhelming, I took a chance on The Sprinkler Guy because the reviews here were solid at least. I wasn't able to be home for the service, but my wife was and she said Brandt was incredible. Not only did he fix the issue, but he informed her that to help with ground saturation we should break our waterings up (instead of one 20 minutes session, do two 10 minute ones). We just had further sprinkler issues and called The Sprinkler Guy again, and luckily we got Brandt and Justin this time. They came out and not only fixed the issue, but leveled out a few of the heads (have I mentioned how bad the installation on these was yet?) and did it without any complaint. They also spent time answering my incredibly dumb questions. I can't recommend them enough, and am hoping my review bumps them up into the 4* range at least. read more

I spent $720 between 5/12/17 and 7/25/17 with this company for various sprinkler repairs and maintenance. Despite this work my water bill during this period of time indicated a persistent leak in the system. This company stated they would like to "get things taken care of" and scheduled an appointment at my home for 9/22/17 with the owner Dan Stifflear between 1.30 and 3.30pm. Dan did not show up to this appointment and did not call. I received a call later that evening from Dan at 5.55pm and the following day at 12.23pm expressing apologies and asking to reschedule this appointment, promising "to make this right....give the best service....and give 100% customer satisfaction on the work we've done". So I responded. I put it in writing on 9/25/17 asking to reschedule and again reached out on 10/2/17 and received absolutely no response. read more

I called and said "I have a canceled check and this needs to show as Paid in Full". She put her hand over the phone and screams to Dan in the background, they cussed at each other and she said "FINE! Don't bother calling this company. A few weeks ago, I scheduled an appointment with the sprinkler guy. The morning of the appointment, I received a call that they had to cancel my appointment. I called back and explained that I took the day off of work so I could meet with them. They assured me that they would come over. One hour, two hours, three hours past from the appointment time, they did not show. Each hour, I called and left a message inquiring if they were coming over. Dan performed service on my irrigation system the night before a freeze--he should have known it was going to freeze but surprise, he didn't. It cost a couple of hundred dollars on top of what I already paid him. He made me pay for it--he knew I was disabled because I had to tell him so I could have him write things down for me. He should have paid because it was his stupid mistake. But I'm disabled so why not stick me with the bill? How's that for business ethics? Now my vegetation is dying because he set the water to run only twice a week instead of three times like usual. I tried to contact his business by phone and email five times. Nothing. But after my review, I got a twelve-hour-later response: "Saw your review online. You'll need to get someone else to help you going forward." Yeah, he owed me that service, and he's that kind of man. Scheduled a service with this company for a Thursday. The initial setup of appointment was easy (also friendly). Come Thursday, my appt was cancelled at the very last minute; they informed they would be back Monday morning. Though I was highly annoyed by the short notice (as I had to arrange someone to be at my home), I understood. Sunday evening, the night before, I received an email they would only be able to do the evening, and not the morning after all. I emailed back this wouldn't work, and expressed my irritation about the short notice and lack of consideration for my schedule. Pam was unapologetic, rude, and was overall annoyed by my correspondence. She even denied the fact the service had been rescheduled for Monday morning. This company seems to be stretched thin, and clearly does not care about their clients. This fall we book a blowout/winterize service with a "will get back within 48 hours" automated voice message and email. No call, no email. When I call the technician over two weeks later (still no call, no confirmation, no show), he asks how soon we want it done and tries starting to explain how I can do it myself. So I realize that fall is an extremely busy time for them. Their new system requires you to request service online. That would be fine except for sprinkler blow out service in the fall. My request was made on a Tuesday. I requested that Friday. In the details I noted that I was willing to schedule when someone would be in my neighborhood. The website states that someone would get back to me within 2 days. That didn't happen. Friday came and went so I went back to the website and requested again saying that I realize fall is extremely busy and perhaps they would like to hire me temporarily to handle all the extra scheduling only half joking. I was serious! Would have loved to be able to help. That was before they didn't live up to what they said on the website and basically blew me off. Dan replied that they were taking 100 calls a day and it was extremely busy. What! how could they be taking calls when all scheduling is done thru the website? Anyhow, I guess Dan didn't like my suggestion and I've never heard back from him or anyone in their office. How hard could it be to edit the info on the website to reflect that fall is extremely busy, be patient, it could be a week or more and someone will get back to you. The two day thing.....not working. Geeze, get a better office system (hire a consultant), prep for the busy fall season, and grow a thicker skin. It's business. Well, I am new to owning a sprinkler system and I don't know what is necessarily average charges, but as mentioned in an older review they did start work before notifying me that they were there, which is fine until I get another $20.00 tacked on in the end because the technician had to go in our crawl space for a few minutes. I get that crawl spaces can be a pain to go into, but I have maybe four sprinkler heads in the one line that we have and it would have been nice to be notified of extra charges given that our service call did not take much time. Additionally, I will agree that he got the work done quick and it appeared efficient and I don't expect overly friendly individuals as a customer, but it was kind of an awkward experience trying to talk to the technician who arrived. He told me how hard it was to get to the equipment in the crawl space and recommended that I get a drain for our system. I then asked if he knew about how much that would cost and he simply said, "no way I can do that today". I wasn't asking for him to do it today, but it may have been extra business to give them in the spring when I am ready to start the system again and it is a good way for me to budget for an upgrade like that. Maybe it was a miscommunication, but it is still how you handle a customer's questions that matter. I will say, the gal that I spoke to on the telephone to set up the appointment was very friendly and professional, she is a keeper! I will probably shop around next year as there are plenty of competitors out there or maybe just not use the system and water it myself as I don't have a big yard. read more

As a new potential customer, I booked an on-line appointment to try and obtain the early blow-out special offered. The day prior to my unconfirmed appointment, I left a voice message to confirm if the appointment and price was still available. "My" scheduled appointment did not occur. However, I did receive an apologetic email with an explanation of the untimely response. The company still provided the special pricing and scheduled an appointment to fit my schedule. I received an email verification confirming time frame and the early bird pricing. The day of the appointment, the technician assigned to my zip code, Ruebal, not sure of the spelling, called to notify me he was enroute. The technician arrived early, completed the job and took additional time to discuss future maintenance if requested. He was very polite, professional and knowledgeable. I understand during this time in Colorado we are anxious to care for our systems to prevent freezing and busted sprinkler pipes. However, I kept the faith that this company would take care of our needs. I am a new customer! I am canceling an already scheduled high priced blow out appointment with my old sprinkler company because of the service I received with "The Sprinkler Guy". Thank you read more

The one star is because the job got done, and got done well. The remaining four stars will never be checked because Dan fired me. Yep. A business person told a customer he won't do business with them. This seems like a case of a very defensive and burnt business owner. Here's the situation: I had a leak in my sprinkler system, where it connects to the water main. I called and made an appointment with The Sprinkler Guy. I also took a picture of the leak to make sure they could fix it (and it wasn't a plumber job). I emailed the picture and asked for the owner/most experienced person to come out if they would be able to fix it. I work in Boulder, so I had to work from home on they day they were coming (a two hour window). They were an hour late. The kids that showed up were super nice, but spent about an hour looking at it and scratching their heads. I told them that I wanted the owner to be here, and that I had emailed a picture and requested it since it's difficult to coordinate being home on a weekday (and they don't work Saturday's). I had to reschedule and I had to wait three weeks for an opening and Dan came out (on a Saturday). He did a great job fixing it, and then turning on my sprinkler system, although he was practically running through my 10 zones and I was running behind him trying to keep up with him. There were 3 heads that needed to be replaced and Dan told me that he would have his office call me to schedule an appointment to leave my garage door open (and I wanted to be here for it) and how slammed he was, it could be as much as 10 days. I got a bill in the mail two days ago from them. Apparently, someone came to my property and fixed the heads without a phone call, or appointment, and I wasn't here. I called to let them know that I wanted to be here when they came to fix it, and see the replaced heads in action. Dan had to walk me through testing the system on my own (no problem doing that). Tow of the heads were stuck, and I was perturbed that they just accessed my property without a phone call or an appointment. Dan unapologetically told me that if I don't have any trust in a company I shouldn't be doing business with them. How can I trust a company that says they will call me to make an appointment and then just show up without me being here and the only way I know they were here is because of a bill I get in the mail. That's not the way I do business. I would have been more than flexible and happy with working from home on whatever day they called to schedule their appointment. Dan insisted that he should be able to do his job whenever he wants and whenever he has time. I don't recommend doing business with The Sprinkler Guy. The only time I want to work with a cocky, stubborn, know-it-all is if I am having brain surgery (and I am anaesthetised). This is a sprinkler system, and good sprinkler guys who don't berate customers are plentiful. Just Yelp it. read more
