This is a tough review to write. I put a request for irrigation repair on Yelp. My irrigation system was not spraying water. Landscapes 101's owner, William Walker was the first to respond and said he could fix my issue within an hour or two. Yeah--a sense of urgency. The work performed was poorly done though. ...and it took at least 3 more trips to finally get to a solution. First William Walker replaced a blow out valve -- not sure that was a problem, and it did not solve the issue. Then he replaced the solenoid valve. I called again saying there still was no pressure in the irrigation system AND the solenoid was making a loud noise. He returned and replaced solenoid. Then sent me a text. It read "I can't fix it. I'm not sure what the issue is. I'm sorry. I changed the valve and the pop and bonnet. That cost me $125. I'm going to let you keep those and cut my losses since I couldn't help you. I can recommend a guy that will fix it if you'd like." When I got back home, I went out to check what was going on -- William had failed to turn the water back on. So I called him back and said it appeared to be working. Somewhere in this process, he cut into my main irrigation pipe -- I suppose - to check water pressure. I later learned he took a shortcut and just glued the PVC pipe back together. I went out a day later to check sprinkler system and found my main irrigation access was flooded with water. I recall pointing out water to him before. Anyway, I called and arranged for him to come back out. He agreed, but said he was working somewhere else the next day, but would be with me after that. He stated he was sure it was just a small leak. From looking at my water consumption over 3000 gallons of water leaked and the retaining wall was soaked and water had leaked across my driveway some feet away - I do not call that small. He returned as promised and explained he should have used an expandable PVC pipe repair. As I watched him dig out the pipe, he cut the wires to my exterior LED Lighting system. That had to be repaired. Now the leak appears to be fixed and the irrigation system appears to be working normally. What I liked about Landscapes 101 is their honesty, descriptions of what the issues might be and willingness to continue to fix a perplexing challenge. Also their willingness to admit errors and to return repeatedly to fix stuff along with reasonable prices. Throughout each visit, Landscapes 101 said he was not the most technically competent repairman. read more

That's alright, things happen. So I reached out to see if we could reschedule and no apology or explanation was given, only a very vague "we have availability next week". My backyard is transformed! For the past few years my backyard sod completely died. It was a complete mess. In large part due to the trampoline, Japanese Beetles, and that bad batch of Scott's fertilizer a few years back. But now it's all-new again thanks to Walker at Landscapes 101. These guys not only did an amazing job but also are the nicest bunch of guys you will ever meet. My husband and I are new to the Highlands Ranch area (just moved up from the Springs) and brand new homeowners. We were pretty stressed out about figuring out how to turn on the sprinkler system and get things up and running. We figured we could watch some videos online but really wanted a professional to check things out and just make sure everything looked okay since we couldn't test the system prior to purchasing the house. These guys were not only accommodating during a very busy time of year, but extremely honest. I reached out to about 5 other sprinkler repair companies and they were at least 1-2 weeks out from getting to us. Landscapes 101 was able to get out the very next day. Due to all the heavy spring rains, my yard was a swamp. William and his crew performed their magic. 18 tons, yes that is tons, of dirt was brought in to correct the problem. In addition his crew installed 5 french drains around the perimeter of my house. William's crew consists of 3 gentlemen who are incredibly hard workers and know exactly how to fix the issues. Another thing that impressed me is how William treats the men who work for him. He treats them with respect and dignity. He brought a small gas grill and made them lunch most days which he buys and prepares. They even invited me to join them. I couldn't be happier with the finished product. It turned out way better than I could have imagined. I am going to have William and his crew back next spring to remove a crumbling retaining wall. I highly recommend him. So I tried to turn on my sprinklers over the weekend and I noticed a part of my backflow valve was broken. Looked like there was some water left in it and it froze over the winter. Bummer. I called William from Landscapes 101 and send a picture of it. He stated he could just replace that specific valve instead of the whole backflow unit which saved me a bunch of money. He quoted me an extremely reasonable price and set up a time after his normal business hours to accommodate my work schedule. He offered to put a drain in at the bottom of the valve for just the cost of the part. Showed up at the exact time...did the work quickly and thoroughly. He was extremely friendly and answered all my questions patiently. I asked him to turn on the sprinklers just to make sure everything worked. He went above and beyond my expectations! There was a clogged sprinkler head and he fixed it there on the spot. Overall, William is the man! I definitely will call him for all my landscaping or irrigation needs. William was responsive when I really needed someone to be, agreeing to meet me at 6 AM on a Saturday at my rental house. However, when the time came to actually meet at the house, he was a no-show. He called me while I was heading there to let me know he wasn't going to be able to make it, because of something about his technician taking the keys he needed to get there, and I would have been OK if this had the morning gone reasonably afterwards (he told me the tech would be in at 8, so he'd figure out his new schedule and let me know). When, by 10:30, all I had heard from him were either delays or no responses, I no longer had the time to keep waiting and hoping, so I moved along my day. Maybe I would have gotten excellent landscaping service, but I will never know. read more

After a summer of moving into our new build it was time to attack, conquer and finish the landscaping. We heard about Landscaping 101 and William from a friend! We hired Landscaping 101 to finish our last project. Outstanding work and professionalism ! On the day the sod was going down, there was rain in the forecast and a chilly 40 degrees in the October air. The sod was liking this weather, perfect for a fall planting. There was 4 pallets of sod, 77 pieces / pallet in the street delivered the night before. William was on time early early morning and worked diligently all day by himself to place all 308 pieces. Asked why he didn't have a helper, his helper called in sick but that did not stop him from doing the work as promised on time and in one day. Clean up and suggestions for the caring and nurturing of the sod were spot on and much appreciated. My wife and I were very pleased with William and Landscaping 101 and would recommend them to anyone who needs landscaping or irrigation created from a blank slate to a re-design. My wife and I are Veterans and Retirees. William and crew arrived as scheduled and did the work in less than a day. When finished he fired off the system for us to watch and said to call him if there were any problems. Well we found problems and let him know a couple of hours after he left. He said he'd be out the next day between 4-5pm to fix, which he believed would not take long to swap out three defective heads he installed. Next day no show and didn't let us he wasn't coming until we contacted him at 5pm. We had postponed a trip to accommodate him but couldn't push off any further. He wanted to reschedule the quick fixes for Friday between 4-5pm 2 days later. We would be out of town so we couldn't accommodate the second rescheduling. I offered for him to simply drop off the replacement heads and I'd install them. He wouldn't do that. So we were left with the option of leaving the irrigation system off for a week or find an alternative solution to the problems he left us. Bottom line, He left the irrigation system with 3 defective heads and significant improper adjustments. Failed to respond as promised and became belligerent when we called him on it. He spent more time arguing with me on text messages than the follow up repairs would have taken. Typical flakey contractor who can't get the job done correctly and then blows you off. He will never work on or system again. read more

We had an overall good experience with Landscapes 101. Our issue was a leaking main shutoff valve about 5ft underground. William explained the work that would need to be done, unfortunately the work was a little more extensive since the ground around the valve was very wet. However, the team at Landscapes 101 was able to complete the valve replacement within the scope and budget. So far we have been very satisfied with the professionalism, price and response time of William and his team. They called ahead and showed up on time to complete the work.
