The pub was a cool place. Dimly lit with the nice old school vibe. Came with a friend at his recommendation. He got the nachos and I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Take my advice, order the nachos. I tried some of his and they were good. Only reason I'm giving this place three stars. The sandwich was terrible. It tasted like one of those pulled pork meats that you get from a tub at the supermarket. Google Lloyds BBQ pulled pork if you're not sure what I'm talking about. I'm confident my meal wasn't made from scratch and was reheated store bought food. Needless to say it wasn't good but at least it wasn't terrible. Had a bit of time to kill after we checked out of our hotel & before our flight, so popped down into this unassuming & cozy little pub. This was the only place we went to in NYC that had a sour craft beer on tap, so I was happy. The brisket sliders were very good, with soft buns & slender pickled onions on top. They were served with a tiny bit of slaw that I thought really complimented the slider. MR T was in the mood for wings & made the unfortunate decision to order the "scorching" hot level. He drank several beers, two waters & helped himself to my water too. Next time, perhaps the "hot" would be a better idea, although he declared them very flavorful. I think he was only able to eat 4 before he surrendered. The fries were perfection, crispy on the outside & seasoned ideally. We are these until we literally couldn't eat anymore. We visited around 2ish on a Monday and there were only about 4 other patrons that came & went, and one lady came & placed a to-go order. Our bartender seemed to be the only front of house present & he was friendly & helpful. He was quick on our refills & the food came quickly too. We are out of towners and visited Stag Head last week. We went arrived Friday evening and went to dinner at Stag Head. They were playing the Knicks and Celtic game and the environment was fun! Dennie was our server and made sure we had a great dinner. She kept us updated around when our food would arrive and made sure she refilled our drinks. We came back Saturday morning for the bottomless mimosa and Dennie was our server again. She remembered us and made sure our bottomless mimosas were never empty. I am appalled by the reviews of this place. We stopped by due to the advertised bottomless brunch. We ordered 2 orders of bottomless mimosas, light OJ. The mimosas were all OJ. I didn't even finish one. I asked for a carafe of just champagne, couldn't do it unless I bought a bottle. So this far we are $40 deep in awful drinks that I can't even swallow bc it's all OJ. We got nachos and chicken fingers. Nachos were not good. Stopped by here for happy hour on a quiet Wednesday afternoon. Small basement location with no one else inside, so was able to take a seat at any table and go through the scannable menu. Both the draft beers and small bites are $6 each during happy hour. Decided on the "Idyll Days" Pilsener ($6) to go along with the BBQ Meatballs ($6). The meatballs are six to an order - miniature in size, but dense and smothered in BBQ sauce. Very tangy and the grilled onions didn't really add much, though overall fine to pair with the beer. As I scroll back through my oodles of pictures, I almost skipped right over the ones from The Stag's Head. I can't be entirely blamed for practically forgetting to review this place. It wasn't because of a nasty experience. On the contrary, we had a pretty 3.5ish star (rounded down) time. One big reason was probably due to an open bar (and now you understand). You see it was back in February when my buddy had a birthday to celebrate and with work chums from the city and childhood friends on the isle, we decided to travel to the urban jungle as that's where he chose to throw his shindig. Most specifically, at The Stag's Head. More specifically, because of a package deal that included (some) drinks and (a little) food for two hours. It was relatively worth it. I say relatively because our "space" was not too spacious. Things got cramped pretty quickly with people not from our party sitting ever-so-close to our designated area. For a deal like the one we paid for, you would've thought Stag's should have had something a little more...private. The other downer was the beer selection (actually, this was also a positive so hear me out). What was shown on the menu (and part of our package) faired nicely for the craft beer scene...until you were told what they were out of. It was a tad of a "wind out of your sails" kind of moment a few times. Maybe erase those options from the board? Beyond those negatories, the good stuff made for a pretty fun evening. This included a few tasty finger food selections (sliders and such) and beer that actually was available (Grimm and Sloop being two quality breweries with something on tap). I'll also give it to the staff who were on top of their game for our slotted party time. They kept the drinks comin' quick and the grub rolling out at a pleasant pace. Overall, why three stars? I guess because Stag's is small and honestly, maybe it is kind of forgettable (open bar or not). The place has decent style, service, food, and drinks, but I can't say I'd gravitate to them when in the city again (definitely not for a party). Perhaps you'll enjoy things more fully if you go, but for me, I'll just reiterate a 3.5 for Stag's Head, in case you forgot (har har). read more

I work around the corner, and I often pass by the entrance on 51st Street. Last night, I met up with my girlfriend, who had arrived early and negotiated to get us a table. The place was packed, every room bodies deep, but somehow we got seated at a table in the bar near the 2nd Avenue door. It was the tail end of happy hour, and I ordered a $6 well gin and tonic, while my girlfriend opted for a $6 Bell's draft. Took a little while for the waiter to wade through the crowd back to the bar, put in our drink order, get the drinks, and serve them to us, but he made it happen. The food menu was fairly predictable: appetizers, salads, burgers, sandwiches, sides. We ordered cautiously, settling on scorching buffalo wings (8 pcs for $12.95ish) and a side of french fries ($8). Sipping our drinks, we waited. When the food came out, we dug right in. First off, the wings are awesome. Loved the way they're cooked, and the scorching sauce was delicious, plenty of flavor and a great heat level, hot without being unpleasant. We also adored the French fries, which tasted home made, skins attached and everything. For such a busy business, everything went well. I'd love to see it on a quiet night, perhaps give the upstairs bar a chance. This seems like a popular spot for locals, visitors, and everyone else. read more

I like my condiments, ok? Cajun fries were so orgasmic there's not much else I can say. When I start saying these kinds of things you can tell I'm running out of creative energy. I wonder if Cajun seasoning would be good on ice cream. Waitress was really nice, service was great. Talking about service unless it's obnoxiously bad is boring, isn't it? The decor was very nice and they even have an elfin "beer garden" They had a decent variety of beers on tap but I didn't think it was as broad as other places. They offer flights, which I love because you get a chance to sample a variety of beers and try new things. The other issue I had was that three of the first three beers I ordered-directly off the chalkboard- they didn't have any more. It was kind of funny because as people in my group came in and started ordering drafts she had to keep repeating "Oh, we don't have that. Now we have the XYZ". Here's my suggestion....get an eraser and just erase the beers from the chalkboard that aren't on tap! That way you don't have to repeat it 25 times per night and you don't have disappointed patrons! Ooooof Stag's Head. I'm never coming here hungry again...the food situation is abominable. In all fairness, Stag's Head certainly has some redeeming qualities. The interior is rustic and charming with wood paneled walls and if you couldn't have already guessed, there is a stag's head mounted on the wall. I've come here many times for drinks and have not had the same beer twice, there is so much to choose from. Last night I came in to watch the rangers game, and everything was off to a solid start. The sound was on the for game and they had UFO Gingerland on tap for 3 dollars. Nothing like a good old out of season sale- I'll still drink it! Then, we ordered food. That's when the night took a turn for the worse. We started off with potato skins. The potatoes were starchy and had zero flavor. The cheese wasn't gooey and melty, and instead was burnt and dry. Broccoli was promised but unfortunately, was nowhere to be found. Still starved, we decided to share a crispy chicken wrap and fries. Right now my boyfriend is in a full arm cast, and a handheld wrap is a good dining alternative since he cant use both hands to cut food. The tortilla was SO stale that the second we both picked up the wrap it tore in half. The contents of the wrap spilled all over the plate and made it near impossible to eat. Great sports bar in midtown. I've gone a few times now for dinner and happy hour and they never disappoint. Recently they've had an amazing cherry sour on tap (crooked stave mama bears sour cherry pie) that is definitely a must try if you're into sour beers. As for the food, I've tried the fried pickles, amazing and perfectly crispy and delicious, and the spinach and artichoke dip for appetizers. The dip is great, very cheesy and I love that it comes with thinly sliced toasted bread instead of chips. It's a great sharing appetizer for the table. I've also had the kale cob salad which comes with kale, grilled chicken, bacon, gorgonzola, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, egg, and avacado with a lemon vinaigrette. Found this dive bar by accident (again looking for food late at night). Their late night menu is soft - one person ordered chicken wings (the blue cheese they brought out was horrible - worst thing I've ever tried and I love blue cheese). Wings themselves were overcooked. Here's the sad thing - whatever I ordered, was so unmemorable that I can't remember! It was a Saturday night when we stopped by and there was very loud dance music playing in a room connected to the bar portion. It was horribly loud, the dj was doing an ill job of mixing songs together and it completely took away what we hopes would be a great dive bar experience. Yesterday I wrote another review update where I said something along the lines of "I hate busting down any place in stars" and now I find myself doing it again. If Yelp gave half stars, I'd have this rating at 3.5 stars. Up front let me say that I do still like Stag's Head a lot. Everything I said previously still applies. They do have knowledgeable staff, good food and good drink. The environment is comfortable (in the seating areas) and you generally get good service. Last night however, I went for a tasting that a brewery was going to be running at the bar. Now, this is a section of Stag's Head I had not hung out in before, so treat this review update more as a look at the bar section than the rest of the restaurant/bar. The event was supposed to begin at 6pm, with sampling of the beer from the brewer and some small bites. I didn't expect a meal of course, I decided to treat this a bit like a Yelp event, just enough to give me a taste of something and come back for more. I arrived at 6pm on the dot and asked where the event was and I was waved over to the bar area, where the gents who run the brewery were sitting. The problem was, the entire bar was full so I had no idea which of the guys at the bar were "the guys". I didn't see any signage or food out so I had no clue where I was supposed to go. The hostess told me again the event organizers were there and waved me over to the bar where she said I could order a brew. I wandered over to the bar and saw both bartenders making drinks. I found the one unoccupied corner and took out my cash, which at every bar I've ever gone to is the general sign for "I have money and wish to purchase alcohol". The bartenders looked my way twice and went back to their conversation. No "One moment please." or "I'll be right with you." Just totally ignored. With cash in my hand. So I wandered around for another fifteen minutes, circling to the other side of the bar hoping to get someone's attention to no avail, sticking my head into the restaurant next door in case I was in the wrong place etc. Whoever these mysterious guys were running the event, they still had not set anything up (I saw two guys on laptops who might have been them, but they seemed much more engaged with whatever they were looking at on the computer than getting their event ready). Once the clock hit 6:20, I decided to leave. I saw a post later that the event began to kick off after I left, but if you're going to tell people to be there at 6, be ready at that time or at the very least, if I had been directed to the guys who were running the event I wouldn't have minded shooting the breeze with them while things were set up. Instead I was left to fend for myself, and even that led me nowhere. Very disappointing experience. Will it scare me away forever? No, but it will make me rethink hanging out in the bar area again. read more

Came here with my cousins for brunch. We were a bit confused because it's connected to the place next door and has the same menu but a different name, but it worked out. We came during brunch, so only the brunch menu was available, but there were plenty of options. We decided to do the bottomless drinks deal for $18 and it was definitely worth it. There is the typical mimosa, Bloody Mary, Bellini option but then there were some other options and our waitress let us switch it up. Also she brought pitchers of mimosa so we can drink faster and she was very friendly overall! I ordered the breakfast burrito with a side of home fries and it was a lot of food! More towards the east side and away from the hustle and bustle, this place is a quiet under ground that offers plenty of TVs with even better food to unwind after a long work day! This place has your normal bar food, but at the same time offers them in unique ways that sets them apart. But what really sealed the deal for me was the truffle popcorn! Oh man, the picture looks like oily delectable goodness, and that is the best way to describe this savor snack! Each morsel of the popcorn is lathered a savory truffle taste (think truffle fries) and it's at such a great price for the amount that you get! Split the nachos, which were a meal all in themselves! A plate full of chips topped with melted cheddar, taco meat, jalapenoes, beans, and guacamole is always a winning combination. I got some diced tomatoes and lettuce to get a little balance with the meal, but it was probably negligible! Each chip was overrun with a cheesy entanglement of meat, bean, and guac that rolled together into the best kind of nachos you can ask for. Really liked this place and how quiet it was on the inside. I'm not for a place that kills my hearing, and I enjoyed that there were plenty of regulars there, really added to the atmosphere. I came here for lunch based on a suggestion from fellow Yelper, Chuck C from NYC. This is a tiny garden level bar in Midtown Manhattan. I showed up for lunch around 12:30 and the place was pretty empty, aside from a few guys hanging out at the bar. The server promptly came to my table and got me water within like 2 minutes. She was friendly and did a great job of managing the crowd as the pace packed up around 1pm. I ordered the Blue Burger with Cajun Fries. This was one fantastic burger! The meat was well seasoned and cooked to a delicious medium rare. The patty was topped with some thick cut bacon, tangy caramelized onions and a ton of blue cheese. The toppings appear to be in equal quantity to the meat - a big plus in my book! The bun was a solid fresh roll that held up to the bulk of this tasty sandwich. The Cajun fries were awesome - spicy, salty and crispy. This place is no nonsense - so you can choose the side of your choice without upcharges. I understand, beer is important; but, if your going to have beer with "food", then that food should, at the very least, be semi decent. This was bad even for bar food. Came here on a Thursday night for drinks and dinner after a work event. We were hungry and this was nearby. We missed Happy Hour, but they have some good strong cocktails. Their food is typical bar food but so crave-worthy when you're in the right mood. We got the mozzarella sticks, which are a MUST. They are more like mozzarella triangles, and are so cheesy and crispy. We also got the nacho beef dip that was decently tasty and the Mac and cheese. Mac was fantasticly cheesy. Finally, we got the potato chips, which were my least favorite of the night- not crispy enough for me. Overall, fattening and yummy - just what I wanted. We had the second floor reserved to ourselves, stocked with tvs (sorry, March Madness...) and hors d'oeuvres (chips and veggie/dip/hummus plater at first, more substantial food later on like sliders and whatnot). There isn't actually a bar up there, but servers would periodically come back and take orders - only slight knock would be that as the party picked up, there was still only 1 servers (maybe 2?) coming by which led to a bit of a slow down. I really liked this place , once you are in you can choose to take a table or sit next to the bar area. It is 2 floor bar with simple bar food. We ordered some truffle fries, popcorn and a pretzel. With all respect , cannot judge the pretzel cause I know the place where it much better. But this one was pretty dissent one. Loved popcorn and fries. This bar have a good variety of beer on a draft, the bartenders are pretty nice and attentive , made some suggestions and helped us to choose something for every each of us. I was drawn in by the lunch deal - meal + drink for about $15, including tip. The burger was slightly burned, standard but not that tasty. Same with the fries. I got a juice for the drink, definitely wish I got a beer. Seems like the beer options for the lunch deals are limited though. read more
