This place was so cutie and yum! We went for drinks and the bread & butter service and everything was so cute from the service to the display to our drinks. The rest of the menu looked great too, just didn't want to eat too much since we had dinner soon. Would def recommend.

This is definitely a busy restaurant during the lunch hour. Every seat was full. Exceptional service. The wait staff are all polite and helpful. Our server was very accommodating and made great recommendations. There was a bit of a hiccup with my meal. Plastic (I think) was left in my salad so it was sent back. Prior to noticing, I did taste the salmon which was well seasoned. Bread service is a must. Don't skip it

The food is soooo good. Would recommend coming here in a heart beat and I for sure would visit again. Quality bistro has a French style menu. The ambience and decor is very inviting. The food is also incredibly fresh and flavorful. The Caesar salad was perfect. The French onion soup was cooked spectacularly as the cheese to bread to onion ratio was perfect. The broth of the soup was very flavorful as well

Average bistro. Came here with friends to get their famous butter service. It was good, but the staff kept trying to take away the encoutrements. They ended up taking away a full plate of ham when we weren't paying attention. Steaks were good but nothing life changing. Our biggest complaint is that we ordered a bottle of wine. Instead of keeping it by our table, they took it away. At one point our wine tasted different from our original glass. We had to ask if it was the correct wine and when they came back they told us yes and that the bottle was finished. It didn't seem right. I understand space is an issue here since they jam pack any available space with a table. But there was enough room on our table to keep the wine. Our favorite part of the meal was dessert. Don't sleep on their sorbet. It was really refreshing.

Came here for a company holiday dinner and overall the food was pretty decent. We were constraint to a prix fixe menu that was chosen ahead of time due to our large party, so the options were unfortunately slim for us. But can't really complain since it's on the company. After we all placed our orders, the server then came over with a cart for the Butter Service Garni. Definitely never had butter service like this before and it was probably the freshest butter I'll ever have in my life. For sides, the Jumbo Asparagus and Bistro Frites were ordered. Asparagus was essentially our greens dish, which was decent. The fries were very addicting. For appetizer, I started off with their French Onion Soup, which was delicious. I felt like I could have been satisfied with just this alone. For entree, I ordered the Pork Porterhouse, which had a roasted pineapple sauce on it for enhanced flavor. I found the pork to be dry, so the sauce was necessary. For dessert, I ordered the Espresso Creme Brulee, which was also great. They serve it in a cup as if you ordered an espresso shot after your meal, but in a dessert form. I also got to try the Green Apple Tart Tatin Sundae, which I have to say I enjoyed a lot more, especially if you'e able to get a spoon with both the french vanilla ice cream and the green apple sorbet. Overall a pretty good experience. Some of the courses had a wow factor while other did not meet expectation. Would not mind coming back again if the opportunity presented itself. Hopefully I can order from the full menu then.

Celebrated new year eve here this year. It was my 2nd time here. Extremely cute decor of each room, except the room closed to the back they took us initially. Crowds were elegant and cute, but the back room was full of tourists/ loud families( maybe because it was a new year eve in midtown) Our server was able to get us to other room, because it was Too cold and loud. - Raw dishes were OK, not amazing. But their scallops and branzino were so good! Must order - Dessert trios fromagos was always the best ! Instagrammable - Not a fan of their cocktails. - Free champagnes for count down. Good for date night and celebration, good service but not your fine dinning service.

We had THE BEST time here! Highly recommend! We had arrived a little on the earlier side for our reservation and the table wasn't ready yet so we went to the bar and a had a few drinks. They were very refreshing. There is a lot to look at with all the color and decorations and I really loved it. Now, unfortunately our our table continued to not be ready however, they apologized profusely and comped us some champagne! I understand when there is a table that is taking their time and it's not reeeeally their fault as they do not want to be rude. It was my birthday so when we finally were lead to our table, they gave me a card which I thought was such a nice touch. We were treated VERY well and the food, drinks and dessert were absolutely delicious. The service was incredible. The butter service was AWESOME! Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this place because we really just had the best time and dining experience.

Dined at Quality Bistro on Thanksgiving. My wife went with non-traditional French fare, while I enjoyed a traditional turkey dinner. My wife boasted the French Onion Soup was the best she'd ever had, and the scallops, served in a rich creamy sauce, were delicious. My turkey dinner was very tasty, as was the stuffing and potatoes purée. Only complaint was that there was too little potatoes and that they were buried below both the meat and stuffing. The restaurant itself is magnificent, but it would have been nice to see some Christmas decorations during the holiday. Service was polite and attentive. Only issue was we waited more than 20 minutes to be seated even though we had reservations. I wonder if they would hold my table had I been so late. This is the seventh Quality Branded restaurant we've dined at and we continue to be impressed. Others include Smith & Wolinskey, Bad Roman, Twin Tails, Quality Meats, Quality Italian, Quality Eats. Recommend them all.

I came here with a business partner for an after work dinner on Thursday. We were promptly seated at the smallest most tiny crunched table between two parties when we asked for a larger table. The wait staff kept bugging us to order every 5 minutes and rushed us. It felt very transactional. We ordered still water, four cocktails, a kale salad, french onion soup, and for the mains papardelle and cacio e Pepe pasta. The pasta came out cold and wasn't seasoned enough. The truffles didn't have any taste or flavor. Bland. Honestly for the price and ambience I feel like there are so many other cute places in NYC to frequent. The dessert was fabulous though!

I loved the energy of this place and the indoor bar area which offers delicious cocktails. While the bar can get very crowded (biz people, locals, tourists), it's good people watching but you need to be patient bc the space can get testy. The food is pretty good as is the service. It's a good vibe yet a bit rushed. Worthwhile the visit to the bar and wouldn't necessarily come with a family.

We came here on a whim looking for a dinner spot! We made reservations for 7pm but then upon arrival, we were told it would be another 30+ minutes before we got seated. We ended up just sitting at the bar and ordering instead. It was packed for a Tuesday! We got a couple of appetizers to share - steak tartare and miso eggplant. The eggplant was a highlight. The steak frites were ok - fries were good and meat was cooked to a perfect medium rare but it was bigger than I usually prefer! The highlight of the dinner was definitely the dessert - the salted caramel gateau was delicious!

    Strip Steak Frites
    Cici M.

Went here on a whim and sat at the bar (would highly recommend a reservation bc it was packed in there) Nonetheless, then menu have a variety of options from drinks to meal choices. A little something for everyone. Drink (not pictured) EL DIABLO was delicious! Not like something I've had before 10/10 recommend. The caviar sliders 7/10 - it was underwhelming merely bc there wasn't enough caviar to taste but the "mayo" was delicious. Strip Steak Frites 9/10 - The fries delicious, I'm dreaming about them today lol The steak I asked for medium and it was a TRUE medium so be mindful. The cut of steak was thicker than I expected and a little fatter than I would've liked. Overall it was good and would recommend despite those things. Overall 10/10 experience and would totally recommend!!

For men, would very nice denim jeans with a very nice top be acceptable here?

    100% yes.

Do they offer alcohol- free beverages? Mocktails?

    I think so

Can you do only butter service with no entrees?

    Yes!

Are there menu variations available for kids? I see there is a chicken paillard...do they allow modifications for children?

This is NOT a restaurant that I would bring kids to - not at all. Look for a more kid-friendly restaurant further west towards 9th Avenue because this is not the place.

    Can we dress casual?

Smart casual for sure. I wouldn't do errand-running casual.

Are you able to make vegan food options?

There's a MaiTake mushroom & truffled leeks entree available for vegans!

Can I bring my own bottle of wine w a corkage fee? How much is the corkage fee if allowed?

    $50 per 750nl bottle!

The broccoli was really good for some reason to me. Also tried the truffle mac and cheese which was incredibly rich and tasted great. I've heard "Lunch at The Modern" so many times, one thing I was absolutely going to do during this…read moretrip to NYC was lunch at The Modern, and I'm so glad I did. Located at MoMA, The Modern is a 2 Michelin star restaurant hosting both fine dining, showcasing Chef Thomas Allan's cuisine, and a more casual dining experience in The Bar Room. The restaurant is gorgeous and has a giant glass wall overlooking MoMA's Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, a lovely view. There is an abridged tasting menu of 3 courses, but we opted for the full chef's menu cause we didn't want to miss their signature "eggs on eggs on eggs" and after the supplemental charge, the price was close enough. - Hiramasa and sugar snap peas/crispy ham and cheese--simple and delicious, with the hiramasa being light and fresh and the ham and cheese providing a deeply savory contrast - Chilled lobster, shiso, and green radish--the lobster was cold and sweet but as a personal preference, I don't really enjoy bitter flavors and the slice of lemon under the radish threw it off a bit - Eggs on eggs on eggs--words cannot adequately describe the unctuousness of this dish, it's like eating rich, buttery velvet on a crispy, fluffy log of brioche. As a bonus, they bring you an extra toast to mop up all the tasty bits - Pumpkin seed sourdough and cultured butter--okay I totally didn't know this was meant to be eaten with the next dish so given total lack of self control in the face of pillowy fresh bread and perhaps the smoothest butter on the planet, I may or may not have eaten it all before the trout showed up... they were nice enough to give us more :') - Sea trout with clams and saffron shellfish broth--the fish was cooked to literal perfection and the clam and saffron sauce enhanced everything even more. This fights with the chicken dish for spot #2 in my favorites of this meal - Heritage chicken, provençal asparagus, vin jaune--this reminds me of the stuffed chicken from Per Se and was cooked just as well. The vin jaune sauce was slightly nutty with an incredibly rich flavor and also went well with the bread - Lamb saddle, romanesco, and lemon poached dates--for some reason I thought the chicken was the final savory course and I did not pace myself at all and was so full by this point. The lamb was tender and the date was a wonderful bite though - Wild strawberries and cacao--I can't remember what was all in this but I loved the little wild strawberries as they were like delicious strawberry gummies - Dark chocolate cremeux, meyer lemon, and espresso--delicious with interesting flavors, I haven't had many lemon, chocolate, and coffee combinations - Mignardises of raspberry, lemon coconut, cherry cheesecake--only one I tried was the cherry cheesecake bonbon but my husband ate 'em all so they must've been good lol The MVP of this meal was the melon lemonade mocktail, made with honeydew, jasmine, and pandan. Might be the most perfect drink for me ever made because it was melony with a subtle floral note from the pandan and jasmine, and only lightly sweet and tart, everything I love. Sooooo good! Service was pretty good up until we wanted to pay, and for some reason it became really difficult to find someone to close us out. We waited almost 20 minutes between the mignardises and finally being able to pay, even actively looking around trying to flag someone down. Despite The Modern not being the most innovative of meals, it's easily one of my all time favorites. I definitely prefer food that's executed well over food that's pushing boundaries, and may be back any time I'm in town.

Hands down the best restaurant experience my wife and I have ever had…read more We wanted to treat ourselves for our anniversary, and I had recently watched their Bon Appétit behind-the-scenes video. Their entire operation seemed so incredibly focused, meticulous, and inspiring that we knew we had to try it. We started with the Iberico ham and the hiramasa tart, both incredible. Then came the chilled lobster, which was super fresh and refreshing, served with an amazing sauce that made me want to lick the plate clean. Every dish felt refined without being overly complicated. The service was extraordinary. You can immediately tell the front-of-house team is operating at an extremely high level and is aware of everything happening in the room at all times. At one point, my wife stepped away to use the restroom just as they were about to serve the first course. Without saying a word or making anything awkward, the staff simply looped around a couple of times until she returned. The moment she sat down, they resumed service seamlessly without missing a beat. That level of awareness and professionalism really stood out to us. Next came the rye bread, which was fresh and crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, paired with delicious butter. Then we had the sea bass with crab, which was phenomenal and one of my favorite dishes of the night. But the true star of the show for me was the lamb. My wife and I grill lamb racks often, and I genuinely had no idea this level of perfection existed. It was cooked flawlessly, and the sauce was absolutely incredible. If I was not in public, I probably would have been scraping the bone clean :) Big shoutout to one of the staff members, Stephanie, who completely made our night. We were telling her how excited we were to finally visit after watching the Bon Appétit video, and she casually asked if we wanted a tour of the kitchen after dinner. Honestly, I thought she was joking at first. Then she came back after dessert and reminded us. Even after paying the bill, I still thought maybe she was kidding, but then she walked over smiling and said, "Let's go." My wife and I were completely geeked out. Seeing the kitchen in person was surreal. It was exactly like the video: super meticulous, orders being called out and repeated in unison, everyone moving with total precision and purpose. You could see the Omega clock, the Michelin stars on the wall, and just the overall culture of excellence behind everything they do. We were honestly in awe. Thank you again, Stephanie. That experience meant so much to us. Every time we visit a fine dining restaurant for a special occasion, I always wonder whether it will truly live up to the hype. Some completely miss the mark. Some are very good. But none have delivered on every aspect the way The Modern did. This is officially our favorite restaurant in the world.

Starters: - French onion soup, au gratin, was perfect. Great onion profile and lots of it. Not overly salty so that was good. - Beef tartare, classic French bistro staple, must order this. The portion was quite generous and it was delicious. We couldn't stop eating it. The petite toasts were a nice accompaniment as well as the raddiccio salad - cheese board, IYKYK, I never met a cheese I didn't like. This board was matched with nice pairings. Think grapes, fig jam, and marcona almonds. The cheese were a classic French variety - bleu, comte and brie. For our entrees, my son opted for a sandwich and I got the steak. His croque Madame was really delicious. The bread, the ham, the baked cheese and the fried egg was so savory. Yummy. My steak was a sizeable portion but I purposely ordered the bigger ounces since I know we'd share. Fries are nice and skinny, perfectly seasoned. Our waiter was attentive and I asked for the table next to us given all the food I know we were getting. He was not sure if he could accommodate but I insisted he check with management. They came over and put it together for me. I appreciated that given a table for two, for how much we ordered, it'd never fit. Totally would return. If you like French food, this is a solid spot to try.
