Great food, service and price and the bread they make is to die for- I love to take it home to make it into French Toast.

Ambiance? No. Price? Defiantly no. Charm? Sure it has all the charm of a run down slum. We got as far as a glass of bitter ice tea and called it quits there. To be a true BBQ house the first thing you need to know is how to make tea. They handed this bitter brew out and showed no sign of embarrassment. I hear good things about this place, drive over a hundred miles and when I get there I find a dusty, unkempt down in the heels building with all the charm of a ghetto. This place is like a vampire, not too bad when the lights are turned down low but can't stand the light of the day. Do yourself a favor, go to a Burger King or a Wendy's the floors are cleaner and the price is cheaper. Not to mention you won't be sitting on chairs with rock hard seats. The whole meal was such a disappointment. I have been looking forward to visiting this place based on the reviews. I especially wanted to try the beef ribs. I ordered three meat platter with brisket, chicken, and beef rib. The portion is decent. Definitely not Texas size but not small either. It came with some side items, four small slices of brisket, quarter of a chicken and one strip of beef rib. My entire plate was cold. I really wanted to have falling off the bone moment with the beef rib. It was tough, under cooked, and bland. It had no smoke flavor at all. Chicken tasted like any chicken. Nothing worth mentioning. Brisket had a strange after taste. I am from Nashville so I know about BBQ. This place is not a BBQ destination. Went there Saturday with a group of 5 around 5:30pm. Got say quickly. Food was amazing!! But before I get to that our server was awful. As soon as we say and he asked us for our drinks he wanted our food order, we hadn't even opened the menu. Then came back 2 more times with in 3-5 mins asking again. It was very annoying. Then once our food came we never saw him again until it was time to pay out bill. I never got another drink and sat there with a empty glass while I ate dinner. We got the deviled eggs as an app, get them!! Another couple got the sliders, they were also a hit. We got the pick 3 combo with the brisket, sausage and pulled pork, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. So juicy and tender. The bbq sauce is perfectly seasoned. The potatoes salad and coleslaw is some of the best I ever had. If we ever boat El Paso again we want to get the ribs, I have never seen some that big in my life. I'm sorry, but this is some of the worst bbq I have ever eaten. The brisket was tough as leather and the sausage was inedible. The sides were just after thoughts. I really wanted to like this place because it was highly recommended by a local, but the food was really third rate. They gave us both lunch and dinner menu (for dinner). We asked our waitress as we're trying to compare, she said the one that doesnt have prime rib is the lunch menu, you prob got it by mistake and walked off (no Im sorry let me get you another dinner menu instead of both of you sharing 1 menu). this waitress had absolutely no personality, did not once smile at us (and she's a waitess?? Why?) Our food came but we still didnt get our bread (which should have been the starter of our meal). I asked the waitress, held up the butter tray "what are these for?" She said it's for the appetizer bread which you guys didnt order. I said, on the menu it said the meal came with bread. She gave me a look and said ok. Turned around and walked off (had no idea what just happened..?). She came moments later with our bread. No apology or anything and still with that grumpy face. Throughout our dinner she didnt come to check on us whatsoever. Thank goodness grumpy's shift was over and someone else took over. The new person checked on us more than 5 times in a matter of 5 min. My appetite came back and I decided I was leaving this one a tip (which I actually wasnt if grumpy was there with us the whole night). My prime rib was great and the bread pudding was soooooo effing good, I had actually forgotten about grumpy. Went there for my birthday two years ago while visiting from out of town. Two friends went with me. The service was indifferent and inattentive at best. Beans were terrible, and we all ended up sick. Definitely would not recommend this place, and I'm not a difficult person to please. Going back to El Paso for another birthday weekend next week, but won't be coming here. read more

Well let's start with the host in her short shorts,no good for a steak house,or the dark dirty booth we were seated at....I was waiting for the wall paper to move yuck.my husband and I had the beef ribs ,and unless you have steel teeth go somewhere else.the staff was very nice so that's good but the food smh.for 60.00 you would expect more flavor and fall off the bone goodness.anytime your food comes before you can butter your 3.50 half loaf of bread run for the door.....came home and put them in the pressure cooker so much for moms nite out.hope this helps. read more

I was very disappointed. I has heard great things about The State Line and have lived here for 14 years. My boyfriend recently moved here so we went out for date night. The brisket and pork ribs were dry, beans bland, coleslaw bitter, not much meat on the ribs, small portions, over-priced for the quality and portion sizes, and the food was served luke-warm at best. When you have five meats in front of you how do you choose. You may go alphabetically beef ribs, brisket, pork ribs, sausage & turkey, You can go by size largest to smallest but what you can't do is go by deliciousness because they are all equals and that leaves you in a paradoxical state of uneasiness. So I just covered everything with a sweet & tangy BBQ and let mouth figure it all out. Pork ribs fell off the bone and the brisket was moist and tender. An huge beef rib that I could of used as a weapon had the Juarez cartel attacked. Peppery turkey that was sliced thinly and finally a tasty, peppery, snappy sausage. Go ahead And loosen your belt when you eat you will need the extra room and your stomach will thank you. I enjoyed every minute and the waitress was pleasant and even let me off the hook for not having dessert. First off I have say the two star rating is due to the quality of the bbq it's not fresh from the smoker and being from cali I was expecting Texas to have better bbq. Well the bbq is reheated and smoothered​ in sauce. The restaurant and the service is a four star the waitress was friendly and brought everything she should have. Maybe if you didn't have to cross over into New Mexico to eat the bbq would have been better. Was disappointed I traveled all the way from San Diego CA to El Paso to get some Texas bbq. First time visit. Easy access, right off the freeway in West El Paso. Parking was easy and our timing must have been right because we got seated for dinner right away. Smelled great as soon as you walk in and large menu to select from. Party of four and we decided to share the 3 and 4 item sampler, with an extra side order. Even as a server myself I tried to be compassionate like maybe she's having a bad day but after every [brief] approach she made towards our table, I was done. I couldn't even finish asking for a box before she was halfway through the restaurant. After ordering our food we weren't asked how we wanted our meats so we had to wave her down to tell her. Didn't like it. The table was too small and the place was overcrowded. My tea went empty and didn't get refilled. The food I ordered was carelessly thrown on a plate, like feeding a pig it's slop in a trough. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they started doing that if they saw this comment. There's an old pie shelf in there, I sat directly in front of it. It was dirty, and aside from two or three condiment packets it was empty. The food and atmosphere look nothing like the photos. If you get a booth instead of a table, they are hard wood and not comfortable. The service was a little slow. Other than that, it was a great experience. I had the prime rib which was great. My mom had the beef medallions which she liked. The homemade bread is a must even though it costs extra if you get it instead of the complimentary bread. read more

We went for lunch, and I was a little bit concerned because the parking lot was empty. There was nothing to fear! We had the pulled pork sandwich with chips; the brisket and sausage combo with beans, cole slaw, and potato salad; and a kid's cheeseburger with nothing but bun, cheese, and meat. Everything was delicious. The portions were sized really well, our waitress was attentive and brought out plenty of bread--isn't it awesome when you have plenty of bread at the end of your meal, having never had to ask for extra?? I loved the gigantic cups, because I didn't need to ask for refills on my diet coke, and I always have to ask for refills. We will definitely go again! read more

I went to State Line for dinner and the Whiskey Myers concert last night. The food and music were stellar as ALWAYS but what really stood out for me was the exceptional service of the staff members at State Line. About four songs into the concert i had a very severe fainting episode. Everyone from the police they have monitoring safety to the gentlemen who made sure I had water and was ok while waiting for EMS to show up were so helpful and caring. You don't expect strangers to really take that extra step and help you out and it was so refreshing. I would recommend State Line on any day for their amazing food, but my experience last night put it on another level, I wish there was a super awesome excellent button, because that is how i would rate my experience. read more

Tried it twice. First time I ordered the brisket plate. Three thin slices of dried out beef. Decided to give it another chance. Ordered the "extra juicy" brisket plate. Three slices of mostly fat. I gave them 2 stars only because of their Texas Music Series shows on Wednesday night in summer. They get some great bands. Went for lunch on my way out of town, quick and easy. Had the brisket & sausage combo. Can't beat that Texas Sausage. I am was a little disappointed by the brisket though, it was tough, chewy and a little dry. All and all a good place, if not a little touristy. read more

So, this will be kind of long. My fiancé and I ate lunch here a few days ago. He grew up in El Paso and used to come here all the time as a kid. After moving away he hasn't been back in 10ish years, but he highly recommended it and I was craving bbq. We walked in, and a server was on the phone at the host counter. She holds up a finger at us, as in "just a minute," but didn't say anything. She was talking to someone who ordered on grub hub, but she couldn't understand them and then said to the customer on the phone, "I didn't understand a word you just said." After another minute or two she told a hostess to seat us, then grabbed her manager and told him to deal with the "grub hub thing" because she didn't know what to do next. We shrugged it off as maybe she was slammed, though it wasn't very busy. The hostess sat us at a table, but we asked to move to a booth, which ended being the same server's section that was on the phone. Oh well. We try not to fault servers, it's a tough job. Anyway they're famous for their bread so we ordered a loaf ($6!) that they claim is baked fresh in house. It was okay, it did taste homemade but I kind of think they reheat day old loaves. It wasn't sliced all the way through. Still, maybe the food was good. Couldn't tell you about the margarita, New Mexico doesn't accept vertical ID so I couldn't get a drink. We ordered a two meat combo plate, I got marbled brisket and pulled pork, my fiancé got the same but baby back pork ribs instead of pulled pork. Both come with baked beans, coleslaw and potato salad, and both were supposed to come with rolls that our server told us are bought from a bakery, but they never showed, which was fine, we already had the $6 bread. The brisket was tough and chewy, feels like they didn't cook it long and low enough. The coleslaw was a bit tangy rather than sweet, but it wasn't that big a deal. The potato salad was good, the beans were okay, maybe they needed a sauce. But now we come to the pork... oh the pork. It was smothered in a sauce that they describe in their menu as "legendary." Right away we knew something was very wrong. It tasted uncannily like Sprite. When the server eventually came back to check on us, we asked what was in the pork sauce. She said, get this, she wasn't allowed to know the ingredients of the food. What? I feel like we stumbled into an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. Why wasn't she allowed to know? We said that it wasn't great, but that we would take a box to go and fix it at home. Not too long after the manager arrived. We kind of repeated the exchange, and he replied that they put orange juice in the sauce, and that's probably what we tasted. Orange juice? In pork bbq sauce? My fiancé was appalled, I just thought it was weird. Tasting it again, you maybe could taste orange juice, but more like Sunny D. Maybe orange crush. It was almost fizzy. I really wouldn't be surprised if that was the secret ingredient. The manager offered us free dessert, but we declined. So the grand total for two smaller entrees, iced tea, a bud for my fiancé, and a loaf of bread came out to a little over $40. Lucky we had a gift visa card so we couldn't really be mad, just really disappointed. I felt bad for my fiancé, and that it really wasn't the same place he remembered. So, tips for the State Line to be a better steakhouse and bbq: 1. Use real butter with your "fresh" bread instead of margarine spread. It might make it taste more fresh. 2. Use sweet coleslaw to offset the tangy bbq sauce. 3. Cook your brisket longer and lower, and make sure it falls apart when you serve it. 4. Don't overload servers that can't handle too many multiple tasks. 5. And most important: don't do that to the pork sauce. There has to be a better way. 1 out of 5 stars for the atmosphere. read more

It's WAY overrated!!! I'm surprised that there is no choice between "wet" ribs and "dry" (rub) ribs, since its a BBQ joint. It kinda looks like an A**plebees on steroids on the inside with all the cliche' wagon wheels, western decor and themes. I just hoped that they had put that much more detail into the flavors of the food. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and the service was the best. The lite bbq platters are not so light and very tasty. You can't stop eating because the food is so good. If you like homemade baked bread, get the loaf, you can alway take the leftovers home and use it for sandwiches. They serve it warm and with butter. Yum! read more

My most recent and LAST visit was monday 6/15/2015. This place have good food ONLY on weekends, always slow service and is overprice. Terrible customer service in regards to customers satisfaction, not to compare but everywhere I've eaten through the US, waitresses takes care of how the food is and if any customer have a slight complain, the waitress would try to fix it or offer you a different entree, they make you feel welcome and try to please you. But at this specific location they let me down three times and those times happened to be during the week. Terrible food, BAD and slow service, and no care whatsoever. read more
