This is a beautiful spot on the lake to grab brunch or dinner. The restaurant is inside The Edgewater Hotel and the service was wonderful! Highly recommend reservations! We were there for brunch and enjoyed. Will be back!

If you need one reason to visit the Statehouse, let it be the absolutely striking view of Lake Mendota. The spacious dining room boasts floor-to-ceiling windows, a genius decision by whomever made it. The elegance of the Edgewater's rich history -- having been built in 1948 -- spills over into the restaurant, with modern elevated decor sprinkled throughout. The Statehouse's menu features trendy favorites as well as fine dining staples. I highly recommend the Fried Cheese Curds and the Beef Wellington. My only critiques come down to cook time on a couple of dishes -- the potatoes in the pork belly appetizer were undercooked and the salmon was slightly overcooked, just a tad dry. Small things to complain about, I know. But everything counts for a restaurant of this caliber... and this price tag. (You will pay a very large, pretty penny.) The servers were attentive and knowledgeable, helping with wine pairings and recommendations on the menu. Overall, I was treated to a decidedly pleasurable experience at the Statehouse and I will return when back in Madison.

Great ambiance. Wait staff was excellent and timely. The food was delicious. My salmon was perfectly cooked and the beet salad was very unique with multitude of flavors. Their cocktails were delicious as well.

Stopped in for brunch. The service was great, our orders were accurate, and the view was fantastic. The broccoli and swiss cheese omelette was really good, light and flavorful. The fresh vegetable scramble was great too! It had a great mix of fresh veggies. The only thing that would have made it better is if their latte machine was working.

Enjoyed brunch and a beautiful view! I know they do a brunch buffet on certain holidays, ie, mother day. However I do wish it was a once a month Sunday buffet brunch :) Service was excellent and food was delicious!

The Statehouse is likely one of the best hotel restaurants I've ever been to. You absolutely cannot beat the views, especially at Sunset. You will get a great view wherever you sit and sometimes in the summer the Edgewater has live music. We started with the charcuterie board and brussels sprouts and cauliflower. The brussels sprouts and cauliflower were amazing, perfectly crispy, and the lemon aioli sauce was an amazing contrast. However, the charcuterie board was really disappointing, especially for a contemporary American restaurant in Wisconsin. The combination of cheese and one meat selection selection along with random fruits were not balanced whatsoever. The entrées, however were amazing, the burger was classic and perfectly done. The roasted chicken was my favorite, perfectly seasoned and simple. Drinks were great too, especially the Bloody Mary.

This is the nicest restaurant in Madison and it's where we go for graduations and special occasions. Celebrating my graduation, we came here on a Friday night and it was a lovely experience! We had cocktails and wine, the bourbon squash soups, beef Wellington and salmon. The salmon was absolutely incredible, absolutely recommend! I wasn't blown away by the cocktails, the pear one or the raspberry daiquiri. The chocolate cake is $13 for about the size of a brownie bite. Be aware that the portions do not match the prices, but the quality is very good for everything, from what I could tell! The ambiance is nicer, fancier, and it drives me nuts that people sometimes dress so slouchy for a nice dinner spot, so I would definitely dress up for The Statehouse! The tables and chairs are lovely, the lighting is great. If they need to change a table to round for 4-5 people, they bang the wood on the bottom and it's pretty loud and interrupts the dining room, but I get it. Our server was a nice guy, but he did lose our credit card in the dishes and was not attentive for the most part. I saw the manager more often than I saw our server.

I had dinner plans, so I just wanted to stop in for a drink and snack. They have some really good offers for HH and their cheese curds are half off. I had never had one, so it sounded like the perfect time to try. I got a glass of wine and the curds. They came out quickly, hot and fresh. It was a big bowl of fried cheese. They come with ranch and hot honey, and apparently they recently won best cheese curd at the cheese curd crawl. They were super tasty. Well seasoned, perfectly fried, and kind of chewy. I am not on the hot honey frenzy train, but I tried it and thought it paired well, just wasn't for me. The ranch was tasty though. Even the happy hour portion was hefty and I couldn't put down half. A little wine and cheese on a beautiful day, just makes for a good experience. They were making some pretty interesting cocktails behind the bar, and it is definitely worth coming back to try out their other options.

The fries were over cooked. My son had the Mac n cheese with chicken that he enjoyed. We also ordered a salad which was fresh and tasty. I ordered Friday night fish fry, which was deep fried haddock, a popover, coleslaw and french fries. All of the food was cooked perfectly. Every single employee was so friendly and the service was exceptional. The hostess, the wait staff, the bartenders, etc. We also had drinks at the bar and they were amazing! The area is very moody lighting and even has small lamps on each table. Our server and staff were great and everything came out timely. We got an old fashioned and a sangria. The sangria is strong but you won't know it until you stand up. We started with the cheese puppies and they had a fantastic pull to them. Some of the best version of cheese curds I've had in a while. My husband and I both had salads and the bowl was too small for the salad but it was a decent salad I do wish the cheese was sprinkled on top as it ended up going to the bottom of the bowl. For an entree I had steak frites. Fries were solid and the cooking of the steak was good with the charcoal but it didn't have much flavor. The chard on the side was also good considering I've never had it. For dessert we had the valentine special chocolate cake and again it was good but nothing super special. We didn't stick around the bar too long but enough to get a winning pull tab. I would come back for the bar tenders they seemed chill.

We made a 12:00 PM reservation, which was definitely necessary because the place was full. Right off the bat, our server asked if anyone had food allergies or dietary restrictions. When I mentioned I have celiac disease, he confidently assured me they could absolutely accommodate it, which immediately gave me peace of mind. I ordered a strawberry spritz and we shared the gluten-free donuts to start. A huge win for the celiac community is that they have a dedicated fryer, so we also safely shared the truffle fries. For our main entrees, I had the fried rice which was excellent. My husband ordered the skirt steak hash with gluten-free toast and loved it, though it is worth noting for others that it packs quite a lot of spice. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive regarding the allergy protocols. The overall service ran a little slow, but it was understandable given how slammed they were for the Sunday rush. As an added bonus, the restaurant has its own parking lot, making the logistics seamless. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this spot, especially fellow celiacs looking for a safe and delicious meal!

The bartenders were personable and competent (I watched them deftly make multiple drinks at once). The space is large and well lit, and the outdoor seating looked nice. I'm sure it's a vibe when the temps are a little warmer. I ordered 2 drinks. Haley's Comet - tasty, albeit a little sweet for me. Call Her Daddy - def my favorite, better balanced imo. I ordered the brunch fried rice and it was a letdown. It was advertised as having bacon and there was none to be found. The food was not hot, leaning towards cold. Like it had been sitting out. Oddly the poached egg was perfect. The rice itself was clumped, as if they didn't use dried out rice (what I'm used to for fried rice) As a rule, I tend not to send food back, so I ate the shrimp and let it be what it was. I was sorely disappointed though. I saw people ordering the brunch burger and honestly that looked way better than what I ordered. I'd be willing to give it another go, as the service and drinks were lovely

My husband and I shared the marinated white beans on toast, cauliflower, oyster mushroom and pesto spaghetti. All were great and delicious! Least fav (although still tasty) may have been the cauliflower cuz it's fried and gets a little heavy but the raisins in the dish are a nice surprise and treat! They clearly take risks in the best way, and it often pays off. The only reason I can't give five stars is an ongoing issue with salt levels. On a few occasions, dishes haven't just been slightly over-seasoned, they've been overwhelmingly salty to the point of overpowering the flavor and, at times, bordering on inedible. And that's coming from someone who genuinely enjoys salty food. When they get the balance right, the food is exceptional. I just wish the seasoning were more consistent.
