The his place was pretty good but my experience was a little off. My wife thought it was good. I'll probably go back and see if I can get it upgraded to a five. My wife and I were visiting and hungry for a late lunch. The atmosphere is awesome. Multiple levels of awesome bar. Comfortable, clean, inviting dining area. Great location. Good price for happy hour. The dry rub rib appetizer was great, the nacho appetizer was good. My wife and I split their fish and chips. Her piece was perfect. Mine was overcooked. Amazing pub! They have a nice old British pub decor that is perfect for the British heritage of the city, amazing beer, staff, food, and great prices. I sat at the bar and the bartender was amazing and gave me samples of various beers on tap and I had two of them on draft. My mother got tired walking around Butchart Gardens so I got pierogies, cauliflower wings, and fish and chips which we both loved. A bar that was connected to the Strathcona Hotel where we were staying for a night. We came in for some drinks. They have pool, darts, and other games going on for your entertainment. It was a big space but service was pretty slow. We were at the bar and the employee seemed more preoccupied with talking to another employee than serving us. Drinks were great though! Came here for dinner on a week night around 7. The restaurant was fairly empty but also very quiet. While the restaurant is clean and large, the vibe was very somber. The staff was attentive and somewhat friendly but not very lively. I ordered a steak and while it was well seasoned, the cook on the steak was under. I asked for medium well and it was very pink. The food was hot temperature wise. I'm not one to send food back so I ate it. I got the apple crumble for dessert and the apples were not tender. Probably wouldn't go back. read more

Interesting pub split up over various levels. Started at this location for a late afternoon visit with friends. I grabbed a hot coco, my friends a beer & a margarita. We ended up visiting so long that we decided to order supper. I tried their fish tacos (2 for an appie) & ordered sweet potato fries. My friends had ordered fish & chips, wings & onion rings. Food itself was decent helpings. We all enjoyed our food & both my friends took their leftovers home as it was that enjoyable. I was a bit confused about the 3 sauces I was given (different cup sizes & all the same sauce), as my fish tacos already arrived with the same sauce on it & there was no way that amount would be used for the modest amount of sweet potato fries. I tried pawning it off on my friends as I didn't want it to all just be waste but that still barely made a dent in the amount served. Shortly after our supper was ordered, the lower area (where we were sitting as it didn't involve a bunch of stairs like there is to reach the other sections) started filling up for supper. We were already struggling to hear each other over the increase of volume for the games playing & increased noise in the higher up areas associated with the games. However, when the TV was turned up for football (above our heads) for the massive group seated behind & beside us, it was very difficult to hear anything over the all the noise in the place. The level of noise got so bad, that I almost didn't want my forgotten sweet potato fries nor my friend's onion rings to arrive. They did find our table eventually, which honestly we both enjoyed. However, by the time we paid our bills & left, my head was aching like I had listened to a band all night. Actually, I think it would of hurt less. I do expect some level of noise in pubs, especially if one is there later at night or special events, but for it being only a regular Saturday supper time (from a late afternoon to early evening) it was definitely the loudest I've experienced in a long time. We did appreciate both waitresses taking good care of our table (there was a shift change while we were there) & rectifying the missing ordered food issues. There was a pricing error between till charge & menu but the waitress kindly that straightened out too. There is some paid street parking but I didn't see any options for handicap. There's a library nearby, so I would assume one could also park in that area too if needed. Granted, if the first area within the Sticky Wicket is full, it would be a challenge for anyone using a walker or wheelchair to be seated for drinks or a meal. As this is a old building, the bathrooms are down a huge flight of stairs or you can access by an elevator. but warning, the waitress mentioned that there's still stairs to contend with in order to reach the bathroom. Or you go up about 8 steps & through another large area of a pub (stairs are very challenging for me, even with a cane). I found it hilarious there's a handicap bathroom (of course, it was locked up) beside the mens & womens washrooms. Bathrooms needed attendance but honestly, they were still in better state than I expected. Thankfully the entrance as a ramp down to the hostess desk. So no stairs to enter/exit the main doors. I do have to wonder if a wheel chair or walker would fit through the doorways (it's an old building). Overall, the food & drinks were good, with decent food proportions. Definitely keep an eye on the menu prices vs what is printed on the bill. I also wouldn't recommend staying a long time at this pub if you have any mobility challenges. As the bathrooms are difficult to reach & only the first seating area (from what we could tell, is the smaller of seating areas) would be possible for accessible seating. Service itself was good & I would try to go back maybe on a week day that hopefully doesn't have several games playing (so I can actually hear the conversation when visiting with friends). read more

Everything about this place was solid. We stayed at the Strathcona hotel during a weekend stay in Victoria and subsequently had a $5 off coupon here (which we forgot to use). We ordered one of everything on the menu except for the perogies. Overall, the food was just ok. For $8 each we had: - Individual nachos. Solid, nothing spectacular - but good stuff. - Dry Ribs. These were good - savoury and salty. Worth getting. - Sweet Chili Cauliflower Wings. The portion was a little small but these were tasty. - Chicken Quesadillas. Pretty below average and forgettable. I'd pass. We also tired the pizza and fries on the kids menu (my youngest loved it, but I thought it look pretty average), and a pint of the Granville Island Raspberry Ale (which my non-beer drinking wife tried and liked). Seemed to be plenty of seating in this place. We were seated in the sports bar area. They had several different sporting events on various monitors. We ordered one of each flavor chicken wing, the chicken thai wraps, and the seafood pesto pasta. The wing flavors werent that great, nor were the wings "jumbo" as stated on the menu, but they were nicely crisped. The pasta was a little bland and could have used a little bit more seafood. The cocktails were reasonably priced. My friend enjoyed their mimosas. The Pineapple Upside Down Cake shot was tasty. Our waitress was friendly, a little slow at times. Had an early dinner at this place on our first night in Victoria while checked in Strathcona Hotel and our experienced was very good. The pub is a bit busy but we got seated right away and the staff was friendly and always asked for our needs. The place was old but very nice and with pool tables and a projector screen. The food was very good and I loved my Paloma drink and burger tastes very good. The beef patty was thick and juicy and enjoying every bite of it. We had literally just arrived in Victoria on the bus from the Schwartz Bay ferry terminal right across the street from The Sticky Wicket! We had been up and traveling for almost 18 hours and here was a place where we could have supper before we crashed into bed at our hotel nearby. The interior is beautiful with a lot of polished wood and comfortable seating with enough room to stash our suitcases beside our table. A Somersby cider was on tap and Hubby chose the root beer. There were several food items we thought sounded tasty, but Hubby chose the fish and chips and I went with the shepherds pie and a side of poutine, which I had never eaten before. All of the food was delicious and fortifying after a long day of traveling. I even had some leftover shepherds pie to take with us, but we just HAD to top it off with a white chocolate brownie which was fabulous! read more

Open late? Count me in. Not much is open for a Sunday so they're winning by just staying open. Drinks are cheap! Food was basic but it does the job, and they were smart to keep the menu short for a drinking crowd. Lots of space inside from bar tables, tables upstairs by the darts, high chairs for the billards area, and some booths. I didn't realize they had a live DJ until I left. I was afraid to come here after I read some of the reviews. Really glad that I did not get scared off. Kyle was our server and he did an amazing job. All four of us ordered something completely different and every dish was cooked exactly the way we asked. If I lived in Victoria, this is where I'd be hanging out and meeting up with friends. 16 of us plopped off a cruise ship into Victoria and went straight here. Our diverse group (in age and taste) - dressed in all levels of casual to dressier were totally welcome! While we walked with our jaws open through the pool hall, the darts room, and the various other amazing fun rooms in so many directions from the front door, we ultimately decided upon the roof with the sand volleyball courts! We had a variety of drinks - mixed, bottled and on tap, appetizers and desserts and everything was as hoped! The nachos went around the table through the whole group and barely looked like a dent had been made. The avocado fries were pretty good, but I loved the BBQ sampler! It's kinda tough to share, so it unofficially became my dinner! This place had a roaming magician and a resident (so he claims) rainbow zebra! We had a great time and I'd definitely return! Went here last night with friends and the service was slow: they all were chatting behind the bar while our drinks went empty. When they brought the food. The waitress decided it was smart to pass a plate over two of my friends to my third friend in the booth seats. The tzakiki sauce got all over two of my friends' clothing! They had to wash it off in the bathroom. The food was also mediocre and over cooked. They offered half off for the bill for the two friends but the bill showed 20% off instead! They decided to just take $7 off everyone's bill instead! Won't be back! read more

WORST. SERVICE. EVER. We got seated in "Abbey's" (not sure if her name is real - YES, she was THAT BAD) section. She ignores her tables. When she finally approached us, she was rude and very condescending. She got our orders wrong, and NEVER even offered to fix them. Incredulous! We asked for mayonnaise; she ignored. We went to the bar to ask again. "Abbey" came over to set a table in our section. I asked her about the mayonnnaise, and she shut me down quick: "IT'S COMING!". We were mortified at the horrible treatment. Is Abbey the daughter of the owner? Why would they employ a person who is so very rude and dismissive? Only ONE other couple was in her section, and they were seated four tables away. We were so taken aback at her rude comments and her lack of service, that we struck up a conversation in the "abandoned section of Abbey" to see if they also experienced the same. They also said her service was non-existent; that they were also ignored, and they were just (literally) sitting around WAITING for their bill at that point. They commented it has been 15 minutes since they asked. Wow. We asked for 3 boxes to take our food to go, and Abbey walked over with ONE, and announced "Here is one box". WHAT in the world is wrong with this place? And with this "server"? We would recommend that people try another restaurant/pub. ANY other one in Victoria. Irish Times was fantastic. Many other restaurants were fantastic. We tried to speak to the Manager, but the two ladies at the front desk said "The Manager is not available". Bizarre, bad, and horrible service. I LOVE The Sticky Wicket! We checked out this restaurant while we were on our honeymoon as it was one of the many connected to our hotel. I'm SO glad that we did because I think this was one of the best meals we had on our trip! Our server was fantastic and was so helpful with recommendations or to answer any questions we had about the menu. She even introduced M to one of his new favourite beers (which seems to find its way into our fridge at home a lot!), and she even had some good paring options for the food we were looking at on the menu. We started our meal with some perogies and fried pickles and both were delicious! I find that fried pickles can be hit or miss, but they hit the nail on the head with these ones! You weren't losing the breading with every bite, and they still packed a good crunch. The perogies were topped with cheese and bacon, and the combination is always a win in my books. After our appetizers, we ordered main entrees (not sure how we had room for them since there was a LOT of food with our appies). I opted for my go-to choice, mac and cheese, and M ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. We both really enjoyed our entrees, and would definitely recommend them! We walked over from the Marriot for dinner, we enjoyed the food and the service. We enjoyed the subdued music and overall ambience. The happy hour drinks are really just mini versions of regular drinks in my opinion, but as i said overall it was great. Was very impressed with the nachos, and i'm not easy to please. I think it was a very gentlemanly sort of atmosphere and quite warm and comfortable. Definitely worth a visit if your in the area. I can't comment on things like parking or the like, but if walking from a local hotel, you may find some rougher folks walking about We had no trouble though. read more

Where to begin. Well, first off the place lives up to its name being "sticky", as that's what my feet did to the floor walking through. Next, the little Napoleonic complex "manager" at the main doors as you walk in. First thing you see is a pissy faced scowling (perhaps not scowling as the mask conceals the actual frame of the face) sitting at the reception area, not greeting anyone - just barking at her minimum wage door staff. We had a group of 8, very successful business oil & gas executives in town for a golf retreat and came to this place as our last stop before our hotel. We were hungry, and very thirsty ready to spend some money. It wasn't all that busy for a Thursday night - so no line up, we basically were able to walk right in. After showing our covid credentials we waiting to be seated. Another waitress (or hostess) came from the area above and said "follow me guys", to which we were excited to be seated so quickly. That's when it allll started with little miss "I am women hear me roar". As we proceeded to follow the hostess - the "manager" YELLED at us...."hey just wait until we're ready to seat you!".....of which one of our party, who also was already taken back by this persons lack of hospitality and professionalism pointed and said, "she told us to come with her, geeez settle down". BOOM . We got to our seats, and began to look at our menus to decide upon a drink selection which was to include multiple shots, followed by a large array of appetizers and drinks. Then out of nowhere, the "manager" appears at the end of our table asking....no wait, YELLING...."who told me to settle down?!?!" Of which we were all then looking at each other thinking this was some kind of prank or practical joke. But no, she reiterated it - this tome only louder so that now she's attracted the attention of every other table around us. I told her, "look, we don't know....we all did I guess. We were asked to follow the hostess and you started screaming at us to wait....no big, it's done." "Do you know who I am?!? I'm the manager and you will not talk to me like that, and I will be respected....." Now I'm fired up. "Listen, I'm not sure what manager school you went to miss, but I can assure you my level of management far exceeds yours - and I can confidently tell you that you're approaching this the wrong way. You don't need to yell at us in front of the whole bar and make a scene. Let it go, we just want to spend a few hundred dollars here and enjoy ourselves. And from the tome we walked in, and were greeted by your pissy/pouty face - we already felt an unwelcoming presence from you. So please, let it go" "I'm the manager and you will respect me. Do you know how much I make." - manager "No, but again I assure you it's probably less than what most of us in this group pay into rrsp contributions a year" "I'm not being pissy or pouty and you will not disrespect me!!" - manager "No?!? Just listen to yourself. Making a scene in front of everyone else here. Embarrassing us like this. You need to calm down and take a breather" "That's it, but I'm sorry , you can all stay but he needs to go (meaning me), I won't be disrespected" - manager. "Listen, I leave, we all leave.....no need again to try to belittle me or call me out in front of the whole place so everyone can hear." So we left. All while she kept barking at another person in our party who then too tried to advise her of her lack of professionalism and class. So, we will not ever be back - and we will be sure to advise anyone who's thinking of visiting to watch for little miss black bobby-hair who thinks it's a good idea to lash out at customers in front of the whole place. The sheer disgust we all felt leaving, and level of hospitality (especially when the service industry is in the state it is/was) is a complete joke. She can run her "multi-million dollar a year establishment"....yes, she did blurb that to us all as well. Of which we were sure to mention that our companies do multi-million dollar transactions before 10am daily...... I always liked the wicket. I have family here so we used to go frequently - although now, and as mentioned before - the name lives up to its reproach. This gal needs an upgrade on her "manager" skills, and perhaps some professionalism help to get over her complex issues. I had the absolutely scrumptious Black Angus brisket sandwich and my wife loved the jalapeno burger (not too spicy). And they had a really good kid's menu.
