Sunday is jazz night which draws a good sized crowd. Music was great, service was friendly. We had the Sintra sandwich which was just ok. I had the Bollywood curry chicken salad (mixed greens, apples, pickled onions, and almonds with your choice of dressing). I ordered the cilantro vinaigrette and it was so sour I asked for the ginger sesame dressing also. They were both so sour, had no discernable oil component, and zero sweetness. The apples added a touch of sweet, but the salad needed more to balance the pickled onions. They had more dressing choices, but after 2 pretty bad strikeouts I think it's probably a consistent issue. Such a cute and eclectic little spot! All the food is great and servers are attentive and nice. They have many tvs to watch games (they usually have soccer on). Surprisingly enough, this is one of the very few places my boyfriend can get fried fish (he has a shellfish allergy and usually feels symptoms due to cross contamination of fryers). This is one of the more imaginative sandwich shops in St. Pete. You have you classic sandwiches with a few English/Indian inspired ones and even more original takes. The curry nachos were surprisingly good and I didn't think walking in that I was going to enjoy those. The darker curry almost had an American chili flavor but stopped short of that. I've been to Studio Public two or three times. The service has always been good, but the food is just ok. This last visit, the owner came by to check to see if everything was OK. A couple of people at the table said yes, but a friend tried to say something, but he was gone. He stopped but for just a second. Everyone felt their food was ok, but nothing great. The chicken salad was a bit dry, and it needed something else, maybe fruit or something to give it a pop, maybe even just salt. My friend did say he enjoyed his smoked fish spread, but his said was just ok. I should have tried something else because the last time I was there, I had the chicken salad and had the same opinion . (Sorry for my rambling in advance) Very friendly staff. I had just brought my dog from the vet and we were having a day out, to which they certainly accommodated. The drink specials are not limited to a short time period, so you definitely feel as though you're capturing the deal. What caught us off guard was how extensive and all-encompassing the food menu is. I went thinking about fish and chips, but immediately wanted everything else...twice. We started with the Charred Shishito Peppers, which were full of flavor, and quite the welcomed alternative to typical pub fare. They weren't overly spicy at all, and the char wasn't a burnt taste either. The Samosas were tasty and obviously made in house. Don't skip on the dipping sauces for these! The potato pancakes really caught my attention because of how perfect and delicious the curry sauce was that accompanied. I love Indian food, and I have a spot I frequent, but Studio Public House may be the new spot for simple Indian options. That curry really stands out in my memory. It was a Thursday, so they had a fish and chip special, which was cooked perfectly as well. The only downside I saw to the fish is that it was a touch on the oily side. No points deducted for that though! Will be back. It will be sooner than later. What a gem, and it happens to be super close to my house. We found ourselves here for dinner on a recent Saturday night after a long day of cleaning around the house, and it turned out to be the perfect way to unwind. It was my first time there, but Mel had been in the space before in one of its previous incarnations, Pom Pom's. She told me going in that a few of the savory sandwiches on the current menu were holdovers or variations of recipes going back to the previous business, and she was looking forward to finding out if they were just as tasty as they had been before. I'll say right up front that she was not disappointed, and neither was I. So, a few logistical notes: The Studio Public House is on a quiet part of Central Ave in St. Pete, just off 29th Street. They have their own parking lot, so street parking isn't necessary unless you're going when it's busy. This particular Saturday we popped in around 8:30 p.m. and didn't have any trouble finding a spot. They have both indoor and outdoor dining, and we probably could have enjoyed the cute patio area that night, but it was just a little too humid for my taste, so we ate in. I'm glad we did, so we had a chance to check out all the music industry-themed artwork on the walls and the eclectic fixtures in the dining and bar areas. Lots of personality here, and if you have a spot in your heart for music from the British Invasion or New Wave eras, you'll find lots to smile on your face. Now I can get to the good stuff: beer and food! As far as the former goes, they've got plenty of standard British Pub standards in bottles and cans -- Guinness, Smithwick's, Boddington's, and the like, as well as some craft selections. On draft, they had some local favorites like Green Bench as well as a few national brands. It's not the most expansive selection, but there's plenty to choose from if you're a fan of the standards. Where Studio Public House truly shines, though, is the food. We started with the Guinness Cheddar Dip, which is served with crostinis. This was so good that I ended up posting a pic of it with a caption reading something along the lines of "I don't know what I've been doing with my life before this." Just try it and you'll see what I mean. I could try to describe it, but I'd run out of characters. For mains, Mel and I went with sandwiches. She chose one that was familiar from the Pom Pom's days, "Thank You For the Music": Turkey, Gouda cheese, Corn, Cream Cheese, Cranberry-Ginger Chutney, and Mashed Potatoes & Gravy on sourdough bread - yeah, basically Thanksgiving dinner in a sandwich. Yes, it's been done before in other places, but I dare say theirs is one of the best you'll find, and yet, I really liked my sandwich -- the Big Teddy -- even more. The menu describes it as Crunchy BBQ Chicken, Cheddar, Mac & Cheese, and KC BBQ Sauce on sourdough. While I admit I didn't get much of a crunch in the sandwich, the flavors and textures I did get were heavenly. This one tastes so good you might feel guilty indulging in all the gooey deliciousness. If that happens, just take another bite and ignore it - I did. Oh, and I have to add that our server that night, Lexi, was a pure joy to hang out with. Bubbly, knowledgeable about the menu, attentive, and full of good suggestions, she's a big part of why we had such a good time. We asked for her thoughts on some of their beer selections, and she was honest, even when the assessments weren't flattering, and that meant a lot. I am so incredibly impressed with this place! I came in here because I read good reviews and saw that there had potential gluten free options. I have celiac and am allergic to nightshades as well. Walking in I was nervous bc it has a very pub like vibe. Usually I cannot eat from places like that. They have interesting fun art on the walls. The waitress greeted us immediately and when I told her of my issues, she had a few recommendations and then went to get the cook (possibly owner?). He came out and discussed options. He even went to the back and brought out an item to show me the ingredients. There was a variety of things I could choose from. My partner and I got the pastrami sandwich and a tuna salad to split. The taste is spectacular! The bread was a little soggy but that's bc they had to do mine in foil.
