I got the #1 sub, which had pepperoni, dry salami, and cappicola, which is very similar to my favorite sub over at Butch's Grinders, unfortunately this was nowhere near as good. I think the main problem I had with it was that they went overboard with the oil and vinegar, which seemed to be the only thing I could taste. This being my first time there, I'm not gonna say that this place sucks (like a lot of people do after one visit somewhere). They have a large selection of hot and cold subs, so I'm sure there's something on the menu that I'll like. And it seems to be quite a popular place, so I would definitely give it a shot, you'll more than likely find something on the menu to enjoy. Have eaten here several times, and the food is consistent and good. Service can be a little slow when they are busy. The Big Dude is good, and I order it almost every time I go there. I add avocado, and sometimes there isn't very much in the sandwich. I love the bread and get it toasted, so it has a little crunch while still being soft inside. Mmm...I sure do love the Big Dudes here! That's pretty much their signature cold sandwich with a bunch of Italian meats, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and their special sauce. SO GOOD. I get cravings for it all the time and I have to resist getting them on the way back to my apartment. This place is super close to campus. If you're in the mood for subs but don't like Stacked at the HUB (don't go there, it sucks) and Subway is too far, just walk across the street here! Unfortunately like many other restaurants close to campus, this place is a bit pricey. I think it's worth it, though, the sandwiches are delicious! The workers here are really friendly and they prepare everything pretty fast. The restaurant itself is totally old school with its wooden walls, wooden tables, wooden chairs. I've come here twice. Once because I was curious about the restaurant and the other because I had a certificate for a free meal. I think the place is great when you're hungry because it's convenient and it's close to school. And the restaurant does have a nice ambiance to it! But this place is pretty overpriced. I can get a way better deal at Subway or the Baguette place (you get your sandwich, fries, and drink-free refills for $7-$8). My review is based on the pricing and the fact that my roast beef sandwich wasn't memorable. It wasn't bland but it did taste like something I would have been able to make myself. And the sandwiches aren't filling. They're not worth the price, I can get a footlong at Subway for less $$ I also had to wait a while for my order but the workers were kind and gave me a complimentary bag of chips as an apology. So although the sandwiches aren't really my cup of tea, they do have good service and the place is near school. read more

one thing i've come to learn about riverside is that there is a lot of sandwich shops and boba. Its conveniently located by bannockburn, which is right across from campus specifically across the softball field. to describe it the best way i can, its a gourmet subway. They have a whole lot of sandwiches and unfortunately they do not have $5 foot longs. i got the bbq chicken and it was really good, the chicken was nice soft and moist, bbq sauce was really good and the bread was fresh and crunchy but still soft in the inside. i would definitely come back and get more sandwiches, i do wish that it was a dollar or two cheaper. read more

I have been coming here since I was in college- 30 Years. So disappointing today. The girl at the register was new and had no idea what she was doing- which is not a problem because she was new. But the other girl who was her mentor was rude. Didn't really support he new girl then Asked me- have you ever been here because .......... then proceeded to tell me the proper way to order. I did order properly- the new girl didn't take the order correctly. Then went back to make our food after she was outside cleaning up- she never washed her hands or put on gloves. Don't know if I can come back. I can almost deal with the rude behavior but unsanitary conditions are a deal breaker. read more

This place is so hit or miss. I've had 5 sandwiches here..the biggest problem is the confusion going on when you customize a sandwich..not everyone wants raw onions or oil and vinegar in their sandwich. Unfortunately the guys that work there don't comprehend this fact. For some odd reason this only applies to the males working there. Maybe too much weed being smoked before their shift. I am trying the best that I can to keep small food businesses afloat during the pandemic because they are to good to loose. The sandwiches were delicious! My boyfriend hates mustard or mayo, so the fact that they don't just automatically put it on is definitely a plus. The salt, pepper, and oil combo is tasty enough that you don't even need mayo or mustard anyway. I got the salami sandwich, and that was perfect. My boyfriend got the hot steak and cheese and the steak was DELICIOUS. Not chewy or tough like other steak sandwiches. Our only complaint (minus one star) is that the sandwiches are small and expensive. I was full from a 7-inch, but he was not. It depends on how hungry you are. read more

Debated between three and four, I'd settle with a 3.5, so I guess I'll round up. As a student at UCR, I'm always trying to find places to ear that aren't produced by the school itself. School food, quite frankly, sucks. My friend took me here one time freshman year and I seriously thought it was the best sandwich place ever, however, I realize now, two years later, that it's pretty much just "good". There are other places out of town which are way better. I always get the melted cheese and avocado but $6.47 including tax for a 7" sandwich...? Pricey as hell. I do like the carrots and peppers they give you. The oil and vinegar in the lettuce is also fantastic. I don't come super often anymore, but I definitely have been here a lot and will keep coming. As a vegetarian there are times when you go to restaurants and there is only one choice on the menu for you. In sub shops it is usually just a cheese sub and then you get the toppings. At The Sub Station there are several ways to satisfy your veggie needs. My favorite is the melted cheese and avocado and I have never had a bad sub here. There is always a generous amount of cheese and avocado. They have shredded lettuce and it reminds me of the lettuce that we use the shred when I worked at a sub shop in high school. The Sub place I worked at shredded their own lettuce on a slice and it was always thin and fell in circles that was great to put on sandwiches. The lettuce, when done this way, keeps the spices, vinegar, and other toppings on the sandwich rather than falling off. The Sub Station is worth the time and energy to go, it is truly one of the best sub places I have been! read more

Once you try Sub Station you will never go back to subway . The staff is super friendly and quick and the food is always really good. Let me start by saying Myself as well as my family have been going to this place for over 20 years. subs are pretty good but mostly it's nice to support a local business. On 4/22 I visited substation to get subs for myself and the rest of the family. The girl with the glasses and died red hair was standing at the counter. Did not greet me or say hello or anything. I walked up and said hello. She did not even respond. I asked are you ready she just looked at me like a idiot. So I gave her my order and she asked my name. I gave her my name and she started to ring me up then the phone rang. So she walked away and answered the phone. Instead of asking the person on the phone to please hold she took 5 minutes to take their order and then came back. I told her why would you not take my payment so my food could have been being prepared while you took another order after mine? She said "because that's what we do." I said to make the person standing in front of you to wait while you help someone else that is calling after I have already been waiting? She said "yup" and I asked do you have a manager? She looked at me and said "yes I do" and sat there again like an idiot. I said how about you go get her. She walked over and said "this guy wants to talk to you because I answered the phone and took someone else's order after his" completely unprofessional to sit and try and tell your side of the story in front of the entire restaurant. The manager Angelica came over and I asked her why she would do this and the manager gave just as much attitude as the idiot taking orders. She said "ya well the majority of our business is phone orders so the people inside can wait" I said you don't think my food should have been being prepared since I placed it first rather then have me wait for her to get off the phone ? She said "nope" I said I will not be ordering any food now. We will never go back to substation until the staff is properly trained on customer service and how to speak to adults. I strongly advise these girls to stay in school because retail and customer service is clearly not for you. I am sure Richard has not had a lot of business through out COVID and like many small businesses are really hoping to make a strong come back but this is not how to do it. read more

Been here multiple times before and never had an issue until today. At about 5pm I placed an online order on their website. Prior to doing this I checked out their hours to make sure they were open and saw that they close at 7:45pm practically everyday. I place my order and I get a confirmation email stating my order will be ready in 15 minutes. I arrive to sub station and the doors are locked and a "closed" sign is hanging on the door. Not really sure what was going on today, but I ended up having to contact Menufy, which is their third party online ordering vendor, to get a refund. I was highly irritated that my order even processed if they were closed. read more
