This was a very good diner. I got the veggie omelette with home fries and whole wheat toast and it was delicious. The home fries needed a little salt but overall the meal was good and I highly suggest it for a no meat option. The server checked up on us many times and always refilled our waters. There were a lot of great choices on the menu, however not as many as other diners, and had a few specials for lunch if you're trying to save some money. Not sure if I had higher expectations but I think the food should at least taste good or something but it wasn't good at all. Everything good, except this was the very first time I ordered the English/Irish dish Fish and Chips, and didn't get the chips! In England, "chips" are actually French fries. In every other eatery, this is known, and the dish is always completed with French fries. I know diners aren't the typical place to get buffalo wings but I like to judge any location by the drinks or a basic staple food.. In this case the buffalo wings were.. The most okayest wings I've ever had, nothing special. And I only got 9 wings. The margarita, was a martini at first. Then the actual margarita was loaded with tequila which is cool, but I wasn't trying to walk out drunk. But it was okay too. Overall, my experience for a Friday night diner visit was moreso positive just because of the company around me. The food and drinks were very bland. My pancake roll up barely had any eggs that could be found and I felt like I was eating a plain rolled up pancake. It was dismal when compared the pancake roll up at the Brownstones restaurant. Agreed our party of almost 20+ for a late night visit can be a bit intimidating but when most are vegetarians, shouldn't be that difficult. The place resembles a geriatric nursing home as 80% of the staff seem to be well into their 70s. We've been there a bunch of times but since we've been staying home, we've ordered a lot from here using a delivery app. We mostly get omelettes and they are as substantial as in the diner with lots of potatoes. Everything that should be hot arrives hot and very well-packaged with a lot condiments and napkins, etc. and they prepare everything insanely quickly (and good). It's no longer possible to make special requests through the app we use but when it was, they always followed the instructions perfectly (cheese amounts, sides, etc.) You can order pickup through their website which would of course would be less $$ bec no fees and it also seems to have more and different choices than the delivery apps and the ability to specify and select different options for the order. Came here specifically for desserts after a full meal at another restaurant. Walked in to be greeted by a large glass display of desserts, tarts, cookies and cakes. I was immediately ready to try anyone of them. The funny thing is that all the desserts look proportional to each other in the case... and then you notice that the cookies are the size of a dinner plate, which is when you realize how large each piece is. This only makes it more amazing..... One of the servers noticed our group trying to settle on something, so helped us by introducing us to the different items. Our party ended up with the baklava cheesecake, blueberry tart, apple strudel and an eclair. They were individually packaged for us in boxes and we took it home to share. Dinned here on a very busy Saturday night before Thanksgiving. Although our original plans were to seek out a chain restaurant I'm glad we didn't. The place was packed but we were immediately seated. Our service was spot on. We didn't have to wait for menus, more water, or for our food. I must say they are running a well oiled machine. The menu was large, too large actually but had everything you could possibly crave. Our waitress knew each dish well and was able to answer every question we had regarding ingredients. I ordered a fall salad which consisted of cranberries, mixed greens, chicken, walnuts, and roasted sweet potatoes. My spouse ordered a specialty burger with a fried egg and ham and a side of disco fries. All I can say is the food was fantastic and the portion size much larger then expected. My only complaint would be the price of the salad - at $13.95 but then again this is Jersey and prices are higher. Went on a brunch double-date today, and let me tell you: this is NOT the Suburban Diner I remember from my youth. Completely renovated and unrecognizable from what it looked like 10 years ago. The menu was also much improved: still a huge menu as typical with diner menus, but refined and modernized. I had the ABC omelet (Avocado, Bacon, Cheddar: $8.95) and it was enormous and amazing, and came with an ungodly amount of home fries. My husband had a panini with egg, tomato, and cheddar with a side of curly fries. He was pretty pleased. Maybe we've just been out of the 'burbs for too long, but we found the prices amazing too. I walk in on a weekday morning and I am told that they can't cook b/c they are cleaning. I say I will wait. They say it's gonna be 20 minutes. I say OK. Typical diner. We were in the area and stayed overnight and went there for breakfast in the morning. It was busy with regulars, whom seemed familiar with the staff/owner... food was fine. Nothing outstanding. I got a bacon egg and cheese on a roll. It was tasty, hit the spot. My son got the French toast. It was enjoyable enough, however, I believe French toast should be either made from challah or brioche bread. You lose a point for that. My husband got the eggs, toast and potatoes. I have been a regular customer at Suburban Diner for several years, since about 2014/2015 --before the neighboring LA Fitness opened up. I have always ordered the same thing and left happy, with the staff always being friendly and accommodating. While I generally dine at Suburban at night, I decided to come in for lunch today on my day off. What was a bit unusual today is that the meat tasted old, and I immediately spit it out. While I am not one to make a big deal, I simply did not want to eat something that tasted foul. Afterwards, I had the severe misfortune of encountering Jimmy, the day-time manager at Suburban who had a very aggressive approach and demeanor towards me. Jimmy made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Jimmy interacted with a complete lack of manners or politeness, and his approach was unacceptable. Among other things, Jimmy challenged me by saying that they sold about 34 of the same dish to other customers today. Then, he tried to over-charge me for a side that came with the wrap that I did not eat, and grew very agitated when I brought it to his attention. As he stormed into the kitchen afterwards, I heard him saying offensive things very loudly which were obviously directed at our encounter. This is absolutely no way to treat a loyal customer, particularly one who is as non-confrontational as me. His approach was unnecessarily aggressive and unprofessional, which is particularly concerning in such an interpersonal business environment. I am very disappointed and I will not be coming back for a long time, if ever. I am taking the time to write this, as it is a shame for one individual to ruin the atmosphere of an otherwise wonderful establishment. read more

I give the diner 4 stars for service. For our party of 8, we were seated right away and the food and drinks came out reasonably in about 20 minutes for St Pattys day. We were attended to by multiple people which is great. There was always a person around if we needed something. The place was packed and had a wait as well around 11:45am. We ordered multiple breakfast items like omelettes. They were huge! The home fries were also a huge portion. The baked ziti wasn't as described. It looked like pasta with melted mozzarella on it. My husband didn't like it. The pancakes were the size of a dinner plate! That by itself would be a filling meal. The food quality was ok at best but more towards not good. I would give it 3.5 stars but can't give a half star unfortunately. read more
