Such a delicious and fun experience. Morgan was our waitress and was PHENOMENAL! She helped get our party of 8 in quickly and kept our drinks full and had great recommendations. The miso soup was really good; probably the best I've ever had. A friend of ours recommended the Roulette Roll where one slice has a drop of capsaicin oil on it, but you didn't know which piece.. Morgan said 120% DON'T DO IT. Capsaicin oil is 16,000,000 scoville units and is categorized as toxic, so we're glad we took her advice. The chef was able to recreate the experience for us using a less hot (but still made my face turn red when I got the spicy piece) pepper. So much fun!!! The only downside is it is a pretty small restaurant, so it's a little hard to accommodate larger groups. read more

Our friends recommended that we come here when we went to McCall for a little getaway. And we are so glad we did! We got a reservation for the shaded balcony and beautiful view of the lake. We had some amazing sake, crazy good rolls and the best yellowtail sashimi we've had in a long time! We liked it so much that we came back the next night for happy hour! If I could give zero stars, I would! We were sat 45 minutes late for our res and when we said we had a diabetic with us they just gave us a menu so we could order when we sat. Some juice or protein would have been easy to get. We were charged an extra $200 after leaving the restaurant and were harassed with phone calls and texts until 11 pm by the manager. When we came into show our itemized receipt, the manager told us we 'must've forgotten' the extra $200 dollars we spent (like that's normal?) and that we could email the owner but he wouldn't do anything. Not only is this fraud but the manger was a misogynist who needs to be out of the service industry with all the inappropriate actions he took! Best sushi we've had since we moved out of the Las Vegas Valley a year ago! When we went Saturday they were booked solid from Winter Carnival so we showed up at 4 to sit at the bar. The service, the food quality everything was spot on in spite of the crowd. We just ordered a bunch of rolls and each one was delicious. We will be back in the summertime for sure! read more

Overall just a bad vibe from this place. A simple drink order such as water should not take more than a few minutes. We waited about 30 minutes and still no waters but our server did come back to take our food order in the meantime. With one my friends getting married, a group of us decided to rent a cabin in McCall to celebrate her bachelorette party. Seeing as how we all LOVE sushi, we knew we wanted to check out The Sushi Bar for dinner. Our party of 6 arrived at 7pm, and we were immediately seated at a table overlooking Payette Lake. The server was friendly, and even congratulated our bride to be! All of us chose to sip on their various flavors of Sake, including apple, pear, and cranberry. The pear was personally my favorite! We then decided to order a variety of sushi rolls, that way we could all taste the different creations! I absolutely loved the Salmon River Roll, which featured fresh salmon, scallions, cream cheese and avocado. Yummy! I only remember one of the rolls being a little bland for my taste (sorry I can't remember which one!) They also offer Pho on Saturday and Sundays. Seeing as McCall is a small town, where there may not be a place to get Pho, I thought it was such a cool idea to offer this speciality menu item! Check your bill at the end of the night... that's all I can say after this horrendous experience. After closing out our tab, we were charged an extra 200 after leaving the restaurant without our consent. I went in with a group of 8 for a friend's bachelorette party. They were 30+ late on our reservation to start with and then proceeded to call us after we left until 11pm saying our server made a critical error and that we needed to finalize the balance. I spoke to the manager on the phone where I was under the impression that we had cleared the air. I texted a copy of my itemized receipt and informed him that we had paid in full for our bill (on one tab) and he thanked us and told us to have a good night. Two days later I saw on my credit card statement that he went ahead and charged us the extra 200. I was given a phone number to reach out to (never heard a response and then later once I connected with the owner, realized I wasn't given the right phone number). I went into the restaurant the following weekend where I was once again harassed by the manager and he told me, "You guys were pretty toasty," after I explained to him the extra money wasn't apart of our bill. So he was essentially saying I must have forgotten what we ordered. *Three of us weren't drinking. Finally, I was provided with the manager's email and he apologized, refunded the money and issued a 100 gift card. Wish it ended here... I went to pick up the gift card and tried to only speak with a server so I wouldn't have to speak with the manager again. Manager approached me and said, "You really want to come back here?" Where I responded that I was extremely uncomfortable in the vicinity and would be gifting the card in which he responded, "I don't like you here either, have a great life." Absolutely long winded but overall, check your bills, esp big parties because they're going to say you were too "toasty" to remember what you ordered, overcharge you, and pocket some extra cash. I've never felt so disrespected at an establishment. It's super unfortunate because I used to love this restaurant. My recommendation would be to find a new manager that doesn't harass, accost and gaslight their customers. The manager did take care of everything to the best of his abilities and was extremely kind and understanding, however, I do still feel the review is necessary to inform others of the management style and what they can possibly be subject to prior to dining here. read more

We always go to The Sushi Bar every time we're in McCall. Fantastic food - as good as any sushi we've had in Southern California. Great friendly staff. Chris is amazing. Love every interaction we have with him. Friendly tip - make your a reservation ahead of time if you know you'll be in town & have a sizable party. We were waiting to be seated a few nights ago and two gals came in 90 minutes before closing hoping to get their party of 9 in. Chris very politely explained he couldn't accommodate them & suggested other places to try. One said, "you've disappointed me so much." Listen, McCall is a fantastic, small, mountain resort town. This was our worst dining experience ever. The servers began slow and rude. Food showed up with hair in meals, and other food items very sub- standard from their usual. When voicing concerns over quality and service the only thing served up immediately and hot was hostility. Brittany is the worst server I've ever experienced - totally out of control. We have frequented the Sushi Bar for years as their food has been good. They have taken a steep dive service and quality of food. They need to fire a handful of their employees and start over. The food was outstanding! Super fresh and clean flavors. The server was so nice but definitely spread thin! Busy Saturday night so waiting time on food was pretty long. But the server voluntarily offered a discount on the bill without us making any comment on the time at all. The salad dressing was so good, loaded with fresh veggies and avocado. My 7 friends and I dined here last Saturday for our friend's bachelorette/wellness weekend. We had a reservation for 7pm and arrived on time. When we arrived we were told the table ahead of us wasn't quite done yet. We checked back 20 minutes later and they informed us that the table had been done dining for a while and had closed out but they were just talking and told us to wait. On a busy Saturday summer night- I feel they should have politely told that table they had other reservations after them once they closed out. We had a diabetic in our party so a few minutes later we went back up to see if we could possibly order her something to eat since they weren't going to move the table along. They gave us a menu and said they could serve us when we were sat and it shouldn't be longer than 10 minutes. Ten minutes later (35 minutes after our reservation) we walked up and were yelled at in front of everyone dining by a clearly irate manager "You guys can't be here. Get out of here- I said we will call you when we are ready" at this point it's past our reservation and you've just talked to us like we are children. We go downstairs and contemplate just leaving- but our diabetic friend isn't looking so good so we agreed that if we weren't sat in 5 minutes we'd leave. We were luckily brought up within the 5 minutes, and the evening went seemingly well. Our food was good. A few of us had a few beers, but many in our party were sober. One of our friends who doesn't drink handled the bill and we were on our way. This is where it gets super unprofessional- the manager called later that night saying we still owed $200 on the bill. Which my friend did pay. However. After looking at the itemized receipt we realized that we did not in fact owe them $200 more. In an attempt to rectify this we reached out to the manager and he simply said we must have been too drunk to notice and we can email the owner but he won't believe us either. What a bummer that the food, view, and our server were great but the eight of us will likely never return because of the manager and his unprofessionalism. I feel like he heard bachelorette and stereotyped us as drunk woo girls, when we were all pretty sober and just there to have a nice adult dinner and celebrate our friend. read more

Man, I just don't get the negative reviews of this place. I've been here twice in the last two weeks (June 2023) and the service and sushi have been great. Happy hour can be busy, but at the bar I've never waited more than 5min for a sake and beer. Sushi and sashimi are excellent. It's not cheap but is reasonably priced compared to comparable places in Boise. I've probably eaten here 10 times in the last 2 years and never had a bad experience. Don't listen to the nay-sayers. My go-to/recommended dishes include the beef pho (there's a delicate savory sweet flavor in the broth that gets me every time, and the beef is tender, not chewy); Island tuna roll (nice spicy kick without the long-term burn); the honey toast for dessert (talk to your server about timing at after your meal, but it's worth the wait); and the tuna poke bowl (I prefer it without rice so I can enjoy the tuna goodness). However tonight I called several times to place a to go order and never got through to a live person. I got busy signals over and over and then when it would actually ring, it was never picked up and went to voicemail. So I went to the restaurant where the sign said not to enter for pick up orders. Ok??? Well I entered and was told THEY WILL ONLY PLACE ONE TO GO ORDER EVERY 10 MIN. With that horrible to go policy it would be an hour until they could place my order and another hour until it was ready. Why didn't they place this order on their website or their voicemail? Thank god we went during Happy Hour. The sushi rolls are TINY compared to normal sushi restaurants. We paid $7 a roll during Happy Hour when they are normally $9. VERY OVERPRICED FOR WHAT YOU GET. 2 stars because the sushi did taste good. Then we asked about baked mussels that are on the menu and that was a 45 minute wait, we opted to check in towards the end of our meal. The waiter then said, "yeah I don't think they are going to be ready anytime soon." This was after over 45 minutes. The service also wasn't the greatest. The waiter was friendly but you had to ask for more water. We have a 3 year old and he never offered any kid friendly drinks aside from giving him a water when we got there. After growing up in Idaho for 18 years I was very, very pleasantly surprised to find a sushi place this good. Especially in McCall. The sushi here is amazing. In fact, if you are a local of Boise, I don't think there is a sushi place that tops it in the Treasure Valley. The fish is always fresh. I love the nigiri and sashimi options. I recently ordered an amazing Hamachi dish with jalepeno's and some kind of spicy oil. Amazing. The rolls here are all really good and if you don't find one that you like, they will usually make a custom roll for you. I have never been disappointed with a roll here. Besides the food, the service can be a little iffy. We have had waiters who always seem new, no matter when we go. Also, go early because if not you will be stuck waiting and the place isn't very good so you end up standing around the tables where people are eating. I absolutely recommend this place if you are in the McCall area. read more

Pretty much the worst dining experience I've ever had. After a reservation that was made one week in advance I expected better seating but as a party of 6 we were sat at a table that would be considerably small for a party of 4. There wasn't even an extra chair pulled up to the end of the table and we had to snatch it from another table. So basically no effort was made to make sure there were enough seats for our party. Then, the extremely lackluster and horrible service ensued. We sat around for what felt like an eternity before our server came to take a drink order. Never once between being served drinks and our food were we offered refills. The drinks came and then we waited another eternity for food orders. I can't remember our servers name but it is not like she was slammed busy trying to tend to her tables. Most of her time while we were there was spent with her standing along the back wall doing nothing. We all got the "Sushi for Two" as there was 3 couples in the party... this comes with miso, edamame, and two rolls. I also got a bowl of rice. Sounds like an excellent deal until you realize how much table space an order like this takes. I am not joking you could not have set another water glass on that table if you wanted to. Long after our soup and edamame was clearly finished our server never offered to clear our table and I mean it was PILED. Not the classic "can I get anything out of your way?" Not a single word spoke to us. Her and another server cleaned the table next to us for another party without even batting an eye at us. Remember this restaurant is small so they were right there. While we were miserable at our table her and the other server were literally standing behind the bar and doing nothing. We realized eventually the only way our table would be cleared was if we did it ourselves, so we started stacking the edamame bowls and miso bowls on the table that was just cleaned next to us. After some dirty looks a server finally grabbed all of the stuff from the other table and never apologized or said "Here let me get this for you"... not even a single word or gesture. It was honesty very uncomfortable and just left everyone in the party with a really unfriendly taste in their mouth. So finally the rolls came which took a very long time and that is not an exaggeration. I must say they were mediocre at best. The rice was not fresh and had a very musky taste to it. I took one bite of the bowl of rice I ordered and knew something was off. It just didn't taste right at all. The pressed polluck (imitation crab) in the rolls was warm and firm. Tasted horrible. All of the rolls were rolled from the same batch of rice and just tasted for lack of better words, wrong. We were all miserable and wanted to get out of there. We weren't enjoying the food we waited so long for so we just kind of picked at it waiting for our check... and you guessed it. It took forever for our server to present herself to us and ask us if we were ready for checks. She just sat back there doing nothing. Completely inattentive. I have to reiterate that 90% of the time we were there she was standing against the back wall doing nothing. Here comes the worst part... We got the checks and there was included gratuity on each of our checks for A PARTY OF SIX. So not only was the service horrible, the food undesirable, the table constantly piled with dishes, the tip was also INCLUDED at 18% percent. We were all so distraught and miserable and wanted to leave so badly we payed the check and left without any backlash at the horrible service. Leaving there was like removing a thorn from your side. Instant relief. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for any sort of a dining experience worth having. I understand some people have a bad day but the service we received was part of a much deeper issue which is unprofessional management. Simply put, our server was not trained correctly.
