FINALLY! A fantastic sushi place in my neighborhood! The Sushi Joint 2 hasn't even had their grand opening yet and it was already packed when I got there at 6PM on Friday night. Word of their serving delicious sushi at their first location in Washougal, WA must have already spread throughout Camas. I got my dinner "to go" for a lazy movie night at home. I ordered their "Beauty & the Beast" roll and fresh Tuna and Salmon Belly Nigiri. Huge, beautiful pieces of fish made with great attention to detail for presentation. And it was just a "to go" order! I'll admit the sushi was good but the service was a little short of sucking. The edamame we ordered hardly had any salt flakes on it, but it was a decent sized starter, shared among three people. We also shared potstickers, and an assortment of different rolls. I am an eel FIEND and loved my roll to death. It even had shrimp tempura and crab meat on the inside. I almost died. And it was a large roll so I was definitely satisfied. Great ratio of rice to actual sushi. Service on the other hand... We never had anyone check on us the entire time we were eating, and had to proactively ask for water. We were also given the bill, and a few minutes later were approached by another server and were asked if we were done and ready to go. My wife and I ate here after visiting the first location in Washougal several times. We had maguro and hamachi nigiri and a spicy tuna roll. Everything was good. The fish texture is a little off maybe the technique they use to thaw it. So we had 6 orders of nigiri, 1 spicy tuna roll, 1 gyoza appetizer, 2 house salads and a beer for $59. That seems pretty average for sushi. The sushi is generous too in terms of the amount of fish and overall size so the value is good. The service has always been great at both locations. I think the Camas location has the edge in seating and ambience over the Washougal location however, the Washougal location has a charm which is hard to describe but very endearing. Reminds of the movie "Blade Runner". So how does it compare to the sushi restaurants in PDX? Pretty good in my opinion. Yes BS kicks out some high quality sushi, slightly better than the Sushi Joint, but worth the drive to SE PDX?, not for me. Both Sushi Joints fill my sushi cravings just fine. Really nice owner and staff too. If I wanted something better I would go Los Angeles, San Francisco or Tokyo. For now, its the best sushi in Clark County and a needed addition to the Camas restaurant scene. read more

The fish is amazing, melt in your mouth good. I came in on a Monday night and found room at the bar. The sushi menu has a nice variety of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. When checking out a sushi place for the first time, I order the basics and as a point of reference. I ordered a rainbow roll, maguro(tuna) nigiri, and hamachi(yellowtail) nigiri. It was excellent. The fish was like butter, melt in my mouth good. The fish pieces were generous, and plated beautifully. I'm in the process of moving to Camas and so happy to find a fantastic local sushi shop. Second time I have been to this establishment! The sushi is sooooooo good. All of the ingredients taste so fresh. The rice for the sushi is very favorable. I have been to sushi places that the rice tastes like it was made the day before. The rice here tastes fresh and made to order. The wife and I heard of a sushi place in downtown Camas that served great sushi. I am not a fan of sushi but the wife is, so I researched the place and it had good reviews but when looking at the menu online it did not appear to have a kids menu. The wife called and verified they do not have a kids menu. So, families, if your kids do not like sushi, this will not work as a family dining spot. Luckily for us the stars aligned and when had a baby sitter, so we tried the sushi joint out. The restaurant is nicely decorated, very clean with a variety of seating options from tables to high chairs to counter top seating. The staff greeted us as soon as the wife and I walked in. Very nice staff. As soon as we seated the services were already in progress with our drinks on the way. The menu has so many options of sushi to choose from, it will be easy to get carried away with ordering. We ended up ordering more than we can eat lol. When ordering sushi unless you are certain you can finish what you ordered, I would start off with 1 to 2 roles at a time and order more as you finish those. The presentation of the food was amazing, of course a picture is provided . We had the Washougal Role, Jalapeno popper role, California role, and the Shrimp Tempura role. They all tasted good. As I mentioned I'm not a fan of sushi, but I was impressed. But something with the sushi did not feel right to me. When the wife and I left the restaurant, I asked her how the sushi was and my with is Asian and Lives on sushi lol and she mentioned the rice on the sushi was off. I had the same feeling. Don't get me wrong it tasted really good but felt slightly mushy. Rice being used for sushi the texture should be fluffy with a firm bite. And each rice grain should be sticky yet retain its shape. Mushy rice means it has too much water or it's overcooked. Other than that, I think it was a nice place to eat. Great service, yummy food, and a great atmosphere. I work above this restaurant and have been dying to try it because every time I walk past, the place is typically really busy. First impression, the restaurant is very clean and nice and bright. The waitress and cook were so friendly and welcoming when we walked in the door. Upon taking a seat, our waitress made some recommendations based on what we said we liked. She brought us a dragon roll and one that had jalapenos on top. Both were so delicious and very well prepared. The food came out quite quickly as well. My wife really likes the food here, and we live three blocks away, but despite that we haven't eaten here in several months. Why? Because they won't let us. Not us specifically. They don't seem to want anyone to eat here. Every single time we try to order from here, they refuse to answer their phone, they turn off the "Open" sign, put a handwritten "Sold Out" sign on the door, or (most bizarrely) gruffly shout at you that they aren't taking to-go orders. Every. Single. Time. The way they treat potential customers is the way I treat people who come knocking on my door unsolicited to ask who I'm voting for. I've never before encountered a business that so adamantly doesn't want customers, and I frankly wonder how they manage to stay in business, unless they're actually just a front for the mob or something. The sushi here, is honestly one of the best I've had. I love it, and want it all the time. That's where the problem with them comes in. 80% percent of the time, I do not get the sushi I want from them. Calling in orders, they usually either don't answer, or answer saying they are too busy for anymore orders. AMAZING! GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! We had to do some errands in Washington and we randomly stumbled upon this amazing sushi place. Seems like this place is owned by a husband and wife which is absolutely cool! The customer service was great the food was even better! I live in Portland so it's about a 30 to 45 minute ride. But I guarantee and you once a month I will be coming here getting sushi from these guys. Parking is great, the prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is really amazing and then on top of that anything you order there is absolutely fresh. For two people we got four different types of sushi with 20% tip it ended up costing us $70 which is absolutely reasonable for delicious sushi. If you haven't had sushi this is the right place to go! I can just see this place being absolutely busy on the weekend and during the summer. Luckily we caught it at a decent time which it wasn't too crazy. Who took about 20 minutes to make which is absolutely quick. And it looked like a masterpiece. Keep up the great work guys we will be definitely back! read more

This place has good sushi! We really enjoy it when we go.. BUT- 1. The seating isn't great. There are only a few high top tables, then there are small coffee tables with lounge chairs which is nice... for a coffee shop. Not the best for several dishes of food, plus drinks, silverware, napkins.. just not enough room and you are hunching over your food. The bar seats seem a little cheap and we didn't enjoy sitting there. 2. The place has no blinds on a single window. When we went back in the fall when it was still nice and sunny out, we were completely blinded while trying to enjoy our meal. 3. The one waitress that was there just kinda stood around watching the TV. She would come check on us then stand over by the counter and watch the tv. It just seemed really odd. I also ordered a diet Pepsi/Coke (whatever they had) and it was 2.50, brought to me in a can (no glass or ice or straw) and no refills. Best Sushi north of the river and best casual sushi bar in the Portland metro area. Hands down. We went back two days after our initial visit. We were craving it. Casual simple ambiance, this place isn't fancy. The servers are polite and courteous, very friendly, however they could check on you just a bit more. Both times we stopped by the place was nearly empty. The food.... This place ISN'T conveyor belt fast food. The Salmon Belly nigiri was ridiculously good....it melts in your mouth. Their Vegas roll is the best I've ever had from anywhere. Perfectly crispy and savory. Their Beauty and the Beast roll was a knock out. Fallen Leaf roll was meh :/ but the spicy tuna was fresh and flavorful. The plates were very attractive and arranged with detail and a sense of art. This is the best sushi I've had south of Seattle (both here and at the original Washougal location). It's obviously made with care using high-quality fish and other ingredients. My go-to is the chef's choice 8-piece nigiri, which is plenty of sushi for one person. (Standouts there are the eel and the hamachi, but it's all good.) I've tried several of their rolls -- the Fallen Leaf Roll and Beauty and the Beast are my favorites. The one caveat: Leave plenty of time. There were maybe 3 tables in front of us of just couples that appeared to order 2-3 items and it took close to 45 minutes for us to get our food. The staff apologized repeatedly for the wait and offered us a free appetizer without us even asking so they were aware of the delay and again were apologetic. I was ecstatic we found this Sushi Joint a bit more than a week ago. The food was fabulous so we decided to return one week later. Again, food was amazing! This is a mixed review because although the the food is a strong 5, service was a 1 at best. Unfortunately we had the same server during both visits. He seems miserable to be there and it is as though we are putting him out to serve us. The other night we got to the restaurant and placed our order rather quickly (within 5 minutes). The food was taking awhile so another server dropped off a small bowl of cucumbers for us to munch on. The problem is...she literally dropped them all over the table. She was very apologetic and cleaned them up, but never returned with a fresh bowl. Instead we were left with no drinks and no food until we called the server over for more water and to ask why our food was taking so long. It took 63 minutes for us to get our order. That is over an hour...FOR SUSHI!!! Apparently the server felt this was acceptable because there was no good explanation or apology. I have a feeling that he forgot to turn in our order. When I asked about the delay in getting our food he said that a bunch of orders were turned in at the same time and our ticket was at the back of the line. Obviously he thought that I was an idiot because 4 tables arrived and sat down AFTER we ordered. All of these tables were served before us. Two even finished and left prior to us getting our order. There was no apology and because we got our food so late they started cleaning up around us before we got our plates. Moving forward, I would recommend the server bring out the food as it is ready instead of bringing everything at once and letting a table full of hungry people wait an hour for a meal. UNACCEPTABLE!!! I also felt like we were holding them up and they had somewhere important to be besides work (they close at 8pm). I am bummed because I love their food. I am a picky sushi eater and it is hard to find places I would visit weekly. I would be here every Friday, but because of the service I am not sure if I will return. Good food, but I would recommend getting it as take-out and eating at home. The service will be much better! Pros: 1. The food is great!
