We used to go to Tommy's a lot when they were in Vancouver. Today I ordered the local Moco and it was the worst I've ever had anywhere. The meat was well well done and had a going bad taste to it. Had dinner there a few nights ago. Service was a bit slow... however the guy who seated us, Cole, was very efficient, friendly and great! The halibut dinner was delicious and the fish n chips were pretty good (but not over- the-top. Only complaint was the wine pours. $15 for a glass that was like 1/4 full didn't seem appropriate at all. When we asked about it, we were told that's just how the bartender pours them. Will probably give them another chance but perhaps have a cocktail instead of wine. read more

We used to go here a handful of times and enjoyed some of the options. Then we happened to have a couple poor entree decisions, which wouldn't have been grounds for not coming back, but the chef (or manager) were the least accommodating of any restaurant I've been to. They acknowledged the kalua pork can be very salty, and the chicken on the Asian chicken salad could have been the refrigerated chicken out of a gas station pre made salad kit. But it was their response to the complaint that was off putting. No comp, no offer to make it right, no offer to make something else. But they did offer to charge us full price for food we hardly touched. The clam chowder was mediocre, but at least we finished it. read more

Tommy O's just became our favorite restaurant in Camas. If you've never visited downtown Camas, please do yourself a favor and add it to your bucket list! It's the most charming cute main street feel, and everyone in the greater Portland metro area should make the trip. Once you do, head straight over to Tommy O's below the Camas Hotel and enjoy flavorful cocktails, sushi, and Hawaiian mains that will make you feel like you're on island time. I've been to over 500 restaurants in Portland, and if this place were in the city, it would be on every Eater list. It's a small place, so make a reso or expect a short wait, and then order everything you can fit on the table. You could make a meal of just sushi, or try a Hawaiian classic. I loved the butterfish but hope to try the mac crusted halibut next time. They also have veg friendly options like the buddha bowl with tofu. It's a charming, homey feel, not a scene. But the food is equally good or better than most of the trendy Portland top spots I've eaten at, and it's so rare to find a Hawaiian cuisine that's not fast casual. read more

Tommy O's was recommended to us. So my friend and I decided to it out. We are both particularly fussy about Hawaiian food (having Island roots). I am on high alert for "touristy" food so often served at restaurants. We were NOT disappointed. Our server was friendly and attentive. Everything was delicious. The fish was fresh and the halibut was cooked to perfection. Poke bowl was fresh (but it was served in greens so we ordered a side of rice). The kahlua pork nachos were yummy. We're visiting Camas for our 50th Valentine's Day celeb, and while I was checking out more info on Camas, we didn't know what to expect, and lunch we planned to do while there, Tommy O's popped up as one of the best. We went in the Camas Hotel, and inquire about them, and the reception desk told me, it's right next door (outside). It was very cold, and we were warmed up fast, as we entered and seated on an empty table, by a window. (I would rather sit on a corner round table, but sadly, it was reserved! They showed up, when we're about to leave). The dining area was bright and offered street views. The restroom was clean. The clam chowder was some of the best that we've had (shared together). Delicious! There was a generous number of butterflied coconut prawns on hubby's order, along with a mound of white rice and a salad zucchini and tomatoes. Mine was stir fried with (shrimp), and rice. It was so generous a portion, that I was able to eat only half (like many of my restaurant meals). After eating the 7 shrimp, I decided to have for another meal and add egg for my lunch). It tasted better, the 2nd time around. If we weren't so full, we would have stayed around for some appealing desserts! It was an excellent meal served by our friendly and helpful hosts! UPDATE: I ate the stir fried with shrimp twice. I got sick TWICE. It must have been, I'm pretty sure, it was from the shrimp! Minus 2 stars! read more

I was a habitué of Tommy Owens' various enterprises in/around Vancouver for almost 20 years. At the breakfast nook downtown, at the lounge when it opened next door, and at the 192nd restaurant, Tommy strived for a high level of service, quality, and hospitality. Some people confuse service with hospitality. Tommy never did, you were always, first of all, welcome. The rest was always a sort of relaxed efficiency. Since he left the area I've been to Tommy O's in Camas twice for lunch, and once for dinner. Nestled in a cozy cute corner of downtown Camas, Tommy O's lived up to its reputation! The chef here fuses a Hawaiian vibe with the primarily sushi and seafood selection. I ordered the Big Kahuna Roll first, which came out attractively plated & drizzled in jalapeno-cilantro sauce. The tempura shrimp, crab meat, and avocado was perfect with some wasabi and soy! As for the entree, I ordered the Miso Sake Butterfish after reading its' convincing description: "pan seared and oven finished with a savory beurre blanc AND a soy reduction drizzle". Yes, please! It turned out to be very fitting as the fish was buttery, crispy-yet-tender, and lightly coated in a divine drizzle that you didn't want to spare. Served aside the fish was a unique black forbidden rice, and some of the best asparagus I've ever tasted (crunchy and sprinkled with charred sea salt). The service was as great as the food. I walked in not knowing their hours, and it happened to be near closing time. I offered to come back another time, but the manager insisted that I stay and settle in for a while. I heard patient training going on as the new server received training on how to make my alcoholic drink, a Bahama Mama. It had a sufficient run pour, to say the least :) Throughout the meal, service was timely but not overbearing. Lastly, the interior has great window seating and there's an outside area too for a romantic nightcap. If you visit the cute downtown of Camas, and especially if you're staying at the hotel next door, then I highly recommend dinner at Tommy O's! read more

I wasn't sure what to expect at Tommy O's, but was super happy we popped in! We didn't have a reservation but were able to grab a seat outside. I think we had a great table, I don't think they have AC, and on a rare 90+ day, it was pretty warm in there. The service was outstanding, super friendly, and gave lots of great recommendations. The drink menu had specialty cocktails that span the gamut from sweet to rich. I had to limit myself to just one but would love to come down for a few drinks early in the evening and then stroll the streets. We both had the coconut shrimp bowl with the cucumber tomato salad. IT was SO good. I love coconut shrimp; this was the best I've had in quite a while. They were tender and crispy, with no chewiness or oil taste. I can't remember how many were on each plate, but it was a HUGE serving. We weren't too full for dessert though! We split the chocolate tart, and it was so rich and creamy. I can't wait to go back for the key lime pie. read more

We didn't know Tommy O's did breakfast on Fridays and Saturdays so having a brunch type meal hit the spot. The chilaquiles with kalua pork is fantastic. As well as the Loco Moco. The waitstaff was super friendly and super helpful and guided us to and order of malassadas. It's kind of an islanders take on bengeits. This restaurant has wonderful food and good service, but a bit on the pricey side. I was a sous chef at the Boston Marriott and know proper Clam Chowder. Over the last 10 years, I've tried clam chowder up and down the west coast only to find a very distorted interpretation that is loaded with flour. Real New England Clam Chowder does NOT contain flour. It is thickened by the potatoes, butter and the cream. This screwed up West Coast (California, Oregon and Washington) version that seems to be everywhere here needs to go and people need to wake up. However, I'm very happy to say that the Clam Chowder at Tommy O's does Clam Chowder proper justice -- THANK YOU TOMMY O'S!!! :D :) I hope Tommy O's stays for a long time. Thank you! read more

We decided to preview this cute Camas place before our family visited us. It was hot in the fall on the inside (no AC??) so we sat outside on the side of the hotel which was not as charming as you might expect. Kind of crowded and cars and people walking inches from your table. Ordered sushi and pork (supposedly their specialties) and a cocktail and mock tail and won't go back and didn't take our family there. It just wasn't good or special in any way. We loved the food at their little food truck/outpost by the Chevron and will definitely go back there when we want good pork and ahi tuna nachos etc. but will pass on their main restaurant. read more

We were in town for a granddaughter's dance recital and wanted to have a special dinner the evening before. It was First Friday so the place was packed. We had reservations so were seated right away. We started our meal with the steak bites appetizer. They were very flavorful but more tough than I expected. Really had to work to chew it. That was followed by some clam chowder that was tasty but quite thin in consistency and, if there were any clams in it, they were well hidden. I then had the coconut shrimp. Really, nothing special. My husband had the halibut and it was quite good. The specialty drinks were delicious and the service very good. Very, very noisy. Certainly not worth $120.00.
