You're not finding a better bang for your buck in at least 15 miles. No one gets in your face. The service is great, and there's no judgement being passed around. I have Eaton here several times. I always have enjoyed it. I saw they have Ramen now which looked great. I was considering coming back to try that. I got a quick takeout yesterday. An order of salmon, and an order of California rolls. As soon as I open the container when I got home, I was hit with fish smell. Strong. I ate the salmon which was good, but maybe a bit mushy. We've been here quite a few times, my problem isn't with the food, the foo has been good every time. The problem is with the service, and it's this way with every Asian restaurant, they need to learn coordinating the orders. Don't bring out one order at a time, as usual the first person got their meal and then 8 minutes later came the second persons order, 8 minutes later came the third and another 10 minutes later came the fourth, so the last person waited 26 minutes before being served, this is just bad.. why are all Asian restaurants like this ? My husband and I decided to go on a "Lunch Date" and try out Wagyu Sushi & Grill. I had ordered a couple of items for takeout from their Sushi menu and liked it. However, today was a different story. We ordered the Coconut Shrimp Bento box, Beef Yakisoba and a Tokyo Roll from the Sushi Bar. All were disappointing! The Tokyo Roll had Inside: Spicy Tuna,Avocado;Top: Tempura Red Snapper w. Spicy Mayo & Eel Sauce. The Tempura Red Snapper was not even warm. Almost like they already had it sitting out to top this roll with. They hardly put any Eel Sauce on top. The rolls were very small (I had written about this issue on my previous review). Now, moving on to the Coconut Shrimp Bento. I was expecting a few large pieces of Coconut Shrimp. But what I got was fried pieces of shrimp with a very bland sauce on it! It looked and tasted more like Honey Walnut Shrimp from a Chinese restaurant. It was barely warm and tasted like it came from a freezer and cooked very quickly. While slathered with a very bland white sauce. Very disappointing! My husband ordered the Beef Yakisoba. He tends to love this dish. However, he described it as lacking taste and the beef being bland. Also, the way they piled it on the a bowl, by the time he took a few bites, it was mostly big pieces of broccoli and hardly any noodles in proportion to the size. We also asked originally to sub the rice in the Bento Box for noodles and offer to pay more. In the other chains, similar to this restaurant, they charge us a $2 upcharge fee to do so. They originally came back and told us they couldn't do it. Then we told them we would be happy to pay the $2 upcharge fee. They came back and told us they would have to charge us $5 more! Just to swap the rice for a little bit of noodles! Ridiculous! The Bento Box was already over $15 with the upcharge! Anyhow, there were only one other customer there when we arrived (during what should be a busy lunch hour). It cost us Now I can see why no one goes here. The food is mediocre at best! read more

This place is fantastic. It is a strip mall sushi spot, but don't let that deter you. The fish was fresh, the staff incredibly friendly and the restaurant was impeccably clean. The prices were fair and our party of four enjoyed everything we ate. Chef's choice sashimi and a couple of their signature rolls along with a couple appetizers made for a great meal. We moved to the area recently and had been in search of our regular sushi spot-- until we found Wagaya. Upsides: The prices are really reasonable (even if you eat a large amount of fish, you'll be out for under $25pp), and the quality of the fish is good (we sat in front of where it was being prepared last time and it all looked very fresh). They have an extensive menu with tasty rolls, nigiri, sashimi. They also have many options for non-sushi eaters, so it's a place we can bring friends to even if they aren't sushi lovers like us. Also, their green tea is excellent with nice toasted notes! Downsides: We've been a few times and generally it's just 1 server managing the to go orders and all the tables. The service is just meh, and you might have to wave them down to get a refill or your check. The decor/ambiance is a little hole-in-the-wall with random toys on what clearly is a conversion from a former conveyor belt sushi spot. Overall, I'd give this place a 4.5, but I rounded up to 5 because I think their low rating is uncalled for and they deserve to be above 4 stars. read more

Wagaya is good if you like cooked fish and terrible if you like raw fish. The service is extremely quick and I often get takeout here that is ready super fast. I personally don't like raw fish and they have lots of yummy options for cooked rolls, however anything with salmon is typically not so great as it comes as a strange brown paste of fish. Some food that was ordered here is: Cucumber Roll - classic cucumber roll. Nothing too special but good. Fried Calamari - The seasoning on the calamari was good. However, it felt like the calamari was pre-cooked already and refried. The calamari was very chewy and hard to eat. I wasn't a fan of their spicy dipping sauce either. Chicken Katsu - Juicy and fried nicely. The katsu is thin. Unagi Hand Roll - good amount of unagi stuffed in the handroll with some avocado and cucumbers. Shrimp Tempura Bento - I find this one the most worth. Or the bentos they offer. It came with a salad, 4 piece california roll, miso soup, rice, 4 pieces of shrimp tempura, 3 pieces of yam (sweet potato) and 3 pieces of broccoli. With regards to the miso soup, it came with lots of seaweed and tofu. Not too salty. The shrimp tempura looks pre-made but the shrimp is very big. Honestly was surprised that 4 pieces of such big shrimp was provided. The broccoli tempura had very over cooked broccoli, it looks like the broccoli was pre-boiled then tempura batter was added. The yam was nice and delicious. Really enjoyed dipping the tempura in their dipping sauce. The rice they had was a little dry. First time to Wagaya Sushi & Grill. Nicely decorated. Welcomed when we walked in and quickly seated. We looked at their menu for descriptions and visuals of good food we wanted to order. We shared the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura, delicious! My grand daughter ordered a Sushi Roll of her choice and also shared Endame. I decided to be adventurous and order Nigiri's. I selected Salmon and Spicy Scallops. In ordering Nigiri's you get 2 per order. The tempura and Nigiri were plentiful. Both Nigiri's were delicious. My favorite was the Spicy Scallops, I would definitely order this again. As for a drink my granddaughter always orders Mango Lemonade. So I decided to try it. A little sweet, but very refreshing. I ordered miso soup, chicken teriyaki bento, a house roll & seared salmon nigiri - everything exceeded my expectations and was absolutely delightful. The portions and prices were in perfect alignment and I was really happy with my meal. Also, my server was pleasant and attentive and I'm 6000% coming back here ASAP. There wasn't a lot of reviews for this place and I had no idea what I was getting myself into but I'm happy that I gave it a chance. It's not a conveyor belt spot nor is it a steakhouse/fancy sushi bar - instead it's a totally normal and unassuming spot with delicious ass food. Honestly this might be the best bento I've had in Vancouver (but to be fair - I don't get out much). My only piece of negative feedback was the horrible house/techno/dance music playing. It didn't match the restaurant at all and it was super distracting during my meal. The service is pretty bad, they're nice and all but verrrryyy slow and MIA most of the time. The 4 times I've been here each time is was barley cutting mediocre, but I don't come here for service - I come here to fill that random sushi craving when I don't want to break or dent the bank $. The prices are actually quite low for the quality of the food we used to go up the street to another great place that cost at least twice as much, why pay double if you don't have to and you can get the same quality we are always impressed with the service and the quality of the food. Placed an online order here today (a Sunday) because I work down the road and the other sushi spot down the street is closed. This place is marginally better and has become my new favorite, and I will be a regular here from this point forward. My coworker got a bento box (it is HUGE) and i got a couple hand rolls and some miso soup. The spicy tuna hand rolls were stuffed with plenty of tuna and avocado and were so tasty and fresh. Before I entered an employee was smoking next to the entrance. I went in and he was behind the food counter with another employee. He never washed his hands but blew his nose and dug his fingers around and then started making food. I watched him for awhile stunned! We enjoyed the smaller portion sizes as it allowed us to try many different items from a new restaurant. The online ordering system was easy and convenient. They used to be a conveyer belt sushi restaurant with sushi plates being small so you can get more that one kind. I am happy to say that now you order what you want and it is still small plates only it is made fresh. The Dragon Roll with the still warm crunchy shrimp tempura was amazing. I don't remember ever having one that tasted so perfect. Then as my dessert I ordered sesame balls and they were still warm . I no longer have to choose between made to order sushi or small plates so I can have more than one kind, And they are open till 9:00 on a weekday. I will be back.
