So, it's great to still have Sweet Oasis around. There is a huge variety of ice creams, Italian ice, soft serve which comes in different flavors! Traditional treats such as a root beer ice cream soda, malt's, sundaes & more. Different cones & mix in's too. It is hard for me to decide what to get? Anytime we come here it is always delicious! Nice neighborhood ice cream shop with very friendly service. Came here on a whim on a Sunday afternoon after church. It was pretty busy but the line went by quick. Ordered a scoop of chocolate ice cream for the little one and shared a Turtle Sunday with the hubby. Their portions here are VERY generous and the price very reasonable compared to other ice cream shops out there. When you walk in it's like you're reliving a scene from Charlie and the Chocolate factory except with ice cream and instead of Oompa Loompa's it's normal people. The set up is similar to most reputable ice cream joints. It was an extremely hot day when we decided to partake in these dairy delights. Walking into the air conditioned shop was so refreshing. The ice cream options were super extensive and very difficult to decide from. I ended up with a milkshake that had cookies and cream ice cream with m&ms. That milkshake was one of the best things I've ever sucked down in my life. It was just the right amount of creaminess and it was the highlight of my year honestly. So here's my scoop on Sweet Oasis... it's good but not outstanding. Their concept is akin to the mom and pop tastee-freeze soft serve type places that are seldom seen anymore. But their product is primarily ice cream, not custard type soft serve. And they do have a multitude of offerings - which I found to be a big plus as ice cream shops go - I'm guessing about 60 different varieties. That said, I was hoping to see a "Homers" type offering - homemade type stuff, but they don't do that. Looks like they carry two or three different commercislly available brands - Schoep's was one that I noticed. When I was there it was the middle of the afternoon and by no means peak service hours. There were a dozen or so customers in the place and it was pretty noisy - the Covid proofing, while necessary adds to the bouncing around of the sound waves. Ordering can look a little like Garrett Morris doing SNL's version of TV for the hard of hearing. I'll stop in again if in the neighborhood, but it's not a destination ice cream place for me such as Margie's on the north side. read more

The Sweet Oasis is located on Montrose Avenue, in a strip mall with a handful of parking. Outside, there are rows of patio furniture lined up so you can have your delicious sweet treat outside on a warm Chicago summer. When we went, the line was up to the door, but it went really fast. Inside, there's gallon buckets of ice cream that you normally see at other ice cream stores. Lots of combinations including sea salt caramel, your normal vanilla, chocolate, and many many others. I went with the strawberry shortcake sundae, which included a couple slices of Pound cake, strawberries, vanilla ice cream, and strawberry syrup. It was massive, and consisted of at least three scoops of ice cream I couldn't finish it all and had to take it home. They also offered something called "The trashcan" which included two scoops of ice cream, sprinkles, caramel, chocolate and vanilla ice cream. That too was massive.The people behind the counter were super nice and as mentioned earlier, got the line moving along pretty quickly and efficiently. If you're looking for more traditional ice cream, they also have that too, offering soft serve, and single scoop cones. Also, they have a great option of having ice cream trucks as well. So, for that birthday party, office celebration, or you just want to be the most amazing person in your neighborhood, reach out to them and look into renting one of their trucks for a few hours. Don't just settle for the giant regular scoops of ice cream. Look at some of the favorites too like the banana split. If you take it to go, your container will probably not even be able to close it's so full. I have had strawberry cheesecake before but this particular flavor was a little off. It tasted more like raspberry cheesecake, not strawberry. Wow, it was a huge scoop -- about a pint worth of ice cream! Cost: $4 and change. I arrived at 2:15 p.m. I was the 2nd customer in the ice cream shop Wednesday afternoon. After 15 minutes of being there 2 high school boys from Ridgewood High School came into the ice cream shop. The H.S. is located across the street. One of the boys ordered strawberry cheesecake ice cream. The exact same one I ordered. The 2 boys, who appeared to be about 15 years old, were speaking low to each other. I got the impression they may not have had enough $$ for their ice cream. At that point, I offered to pay for their ice cream cones. They said "thank you, but we are ok." I would have gladly treated them to their ice cream cones. Seriously! I used a plastic spoon to get started on my massive ice cream scoop. This time around I got to meet the owner. He was cleaning equipment when I arrived at the ice cream parlor. He was very courteous. Kind. Friendly. Hospitable. Down-to-earth. I was impressed with his professionalism and kind mannerisms. I am giving a 4-star rating only because parking is a pain! The parking lot on the side of the street was full. The parking lot in front of the ice cream parlor was also full. The parking lot across the street (on Oriole Ave.) was full. I circled the block twice. Damit, I was determined to try a new flavor. By the time I came around the block someone was pulling out of a parking space. I snatched it up quickly. Sweet! The ice cream parlor is located on the corner of Montrose and Oriole Ave. There is a red flashing light. This is a four-way stop. The shop is small, but there are plenty of tables. There are also plenty of chairs in front of the ice cream parlor. When I left "The Sweet Oasis" the powder blue chairs were occupied with 2 boys under age 5, a young mother, grandmother and an adorable tiny black puppy enjoying ice cream treats. The next time I visit my friend again I will definitely stop in again. The Sweet Oasis is a mom & pop operation. If you are ever in the area, hit up this joint. It's a seasonal ice cream shop so get here before Halloween! P.S. On Aug. 30th, I tried their white chocolate raspberry flavor. My husband sticks to the usual flavor -- Oreo cookie dough.
