We do our ladies' tea here during our winter break (we're teachers!) and are always happy. The awesome bits: (I did high tea) Their tea selection is great. Their holiday special teas are delicious and i even bought some of dreidel, dreidel because it's insanely yummy. They recommend how much tea for the table and it's always spot on. The scones were delicious: buttery and just the right sweetness, with yummy Devonshire cream (i think!) and jam. The squash soup was amazing: warm spices, slightly spice-hot and VERY heat-hot, great consistency. The tea sandwiches were also great. The ham and jam on cinnamon bread was a bit too sweet for me, but the pesto cream and roasted red pepper spreads were insanely delicious. The traditional cucumber and dill was awesome, as was the egg salad and chicken salad. They easily accommodated a pregnant no-lunchmeat eater and a no-pork eater as well. Dessert was a chocolate cookie cup with an awesome strawberry creamy mousse thing and a chocolate mousse thing ( I forget exactly what it was, but it was great!), with a sugar cookie (perfectly crisp and thin!) The store at the entrance is adorable and sells wonderful tea accoutrements, as well as some cute kitchenware. Nothing cheap in price, but everything is high quality. No complaints, per say. Getting water did take a bit longer than my friend wanted, and another friend got the cheese plate with her selection that I wish was available to purchase separately (for example I'd have loved to have gotten the high tea AND the cheese plate, and paid for it, but that wasn't an option). The Talking Tea Cup is the ultimate girly adventure. What's funny is when I was in high school and still in my somewhat "mom this is so lame" stage, my mom used to drag me here and I always hated going. Tea and scones did not get me very excited. I always asked my mom why they didn't have a cheeseburger on the menu. Now that I'm older and not such a pain in the ass, I'm the one who begs my mom to take me here when I come home for a visit. They have so many different teas. The full breakfast doesn't sound like a lot of food, but it will fill you up for sure. And the food is GOOD. There is really not anywhere like this place anywhere else. The funny thing is you won't see many men in here, unless they are whipped and treat their wives of 50 years to an afternoon tea. So it's a good way to get some girlfriends together and go for a nice Sunday lunch. read more

Totally worth the 45 minutes drive to this place! My kids always played tea party at home so I figure I should let them experience it in life and I was so happy we did. I had 3 kids with me and our server was the best! She made sure everyone had their own share of sandwiches and also picked out the best tea for them as well. Overall, I was underwhelmed by this place. We made a reservation for 2:30, and weren't seated until 2:45. Obviously, no one goes to afternoon tea in a tearing hurry, but what is the point of making a reservation if they won't honor it on time? We ordered the luncheon tea, which comes with sandwiches, scones and dessert. The food was quite good, and they give you a very large personal pot of tea, though it is somewhat weak. But the dining room is cramped and service is spotty at best. The waitress was sweet, but we had to beg her for glasses of water several times. We were also served what were described as "chocolate chip scones," which turned out to be chocolate pecan, which was a bit of a problem as I have a nut allergy. Enjoyed a Luncheon Tea - not quite the traditional English tea I've had here stateside or in the UK. The food was tasty - we enjoyed the scones and the desserts. The finger sandwiches had some 'less than traditional' pairings, along with the traditional 'cucumber' sandwich. Vast tea selection. Felt sorry for the two waitresses - they had a number of tables. They were too busy to check to see if I needed additional tea in time for the desserts - or maybe they don't do that. They were friendly enough. Several of the cups, saucers and plates had chips. These should be weeded out...a bit unappealing when you go to take a sip and the cup is chipped. Don't let the location fool you - it may be next to a convenience store and on a major road - you'd never know it. I would visit again. read more

Talking Tea Cup is a pretty good place to get your English countryside on. We went for High Tea, which I thought at least did justice to what we'd experienced in London. Tea selection was pretty large, and the waitress was able to offer some advice on the options. Each person gets their own pot of tea, which they refilled when empty. First up were some very good scones. Pineapple and chocolate were the two varieties we were given. Preserves were really good, and the Devonshire cream was passable. Next was a cup of good soup, followed by several different types of tea sandwiches. All of them were good, the only complaint I had was that they serve an egg salad sandwich in place of real egg and cress. Hopefully that will change once they get the herb garden going. Despite being right off of a busy road and next to a 7-11, the orientation of the house and some hardy hedges really help preserve a rural atmosphere. The charming little cottage with mismatched plates and silverware that fit it perfectly is worth trying out. Finally something good and a little unique that's close to my house. read more

Piss poor service from Ren. Reservation booked 2 months prior for 3p and although we arrived a couple minutes late (yet called ahead to give them a head's up), members of our party arrived beforehand. Along with the reservations made, the order was placed beforehand for finger foods as was recommended, mind you, foods were sandwiches. Once we arrived, no one was at the front to seat us. We waited about a couple minutes to be seated and once seated waited upwards of 10 minutes for a server, Ren, to wait on us. Ren took our orders for tea and we did not see hear anything for another 15 minutes. Remember: our order for food (sandwiches) was placed way in advance of our arrival. Waited for sandwiches that were "being plated" while others seated around us, some who came in after, were fed before us. No one came out to extend apologies for the wait time or explain anything. Our last resort was to assume it was because of our race; we were the only black family amongst a white population. Extremely disappointed as we were celebrating my 5 year old's birthday and she expressed so much interest in having a tea party. The tea and goodies are lovely since we have been here many times. Had a very rude experience today though. I left a message early in the morning for a reservation. No one returned my call and when I followed up a half hour before we were to leave, the person I spoke to was very abrupt. Even though they were now open, I was told matter of factly that she hadn't listened to the messages and there were only two times left. One was impossible to make and one was at the end of the day. My girls and I have been going to the Talking Teacup for many years, but apparently they no longer need our business. This is the best Tea House with delicious tea, scones, soup, salads, homemade dressings, tea sandwiches, and desserts. The best part they have everything gluten free. This is the first restaurant that I leave full and completely satisfied. The GF scones are my favorite. Today they had cranberry and a blueberry scone. The scones are served with a scrumptious creme and a preserve. Together they taste like heaven! The soups are homemade, today was carrot ginger. On a previous visit the soup was Italian Wedding. The salad is fresh spinach with blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, and honeydew. It was served with a homemade balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Yum! When you walk in you are greeted by a darling little gift shop The dining room is quant and relaxing. Upstairs they have a dress up room and a birthday party room. I suggest you call ahead for a reservation especially if you require a gluten free plate. I highly recommend dining and celebrating any occasion. You walk in as a guest and leave like a friend. I went to the Talking Tea Cup on Wednesday, Dec.23, 2015 with my Mom and my daughter. It was without a doubt, the worst experience that I have ever had at a tea room. The only thing that was acceptable was the tea. From the biscuits that were masquerading as scones to the unedible tea sandwiches ending with horrible desserts - I may as well as ran by and thrown $60 in their door. Baking and cooking are all done on site, so everything is fresh, fresh, fresh. The sandwiches are perfect, and the scone equal to that at any bakery. If you are a tea lover the Talking Tea Cup has one of the largest selections of tea I've ever seen. If you've only had basic tea, ask the server for recommendations - it'll open up a whole new world of possibilities. We had cranberry and honey vanilla served nice and warm with devonshire cream and preserves. The soup was pureed asperagus which had a very nice flavor but probably should have been strained to remove the tough fibers. The tea sandwiches were disappointing. There could have been more that were savory and the presentation was boring with no garnishes at all. I also expected the deserts to be more elegant.
