The tamale place is awesome for lunch. I work around the corner and it's always an easy stop for a good rice bowl. Their ingredients are fresh, their chips are crispy and their service is friendly. Save room for a tamale from their daily list. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everything about the restaurant is nice and clean and bright.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I've only ever done carryout. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is located in a working class neighborhood on the west side of Indy. Doesn't look like much on the outside but the inside is nice and clean the entire well organized kitchen is visible.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Tamales are some of the best I've ever had. Good size, Just the right amount of Masa and a generous filling. May Please note, spicy means spicy. The pork, chicken verde and chipotle beef are all delicious and filling. Service is polite and efficient.

A storefront in a strip mall, the Tamale Place is an interesting location. Inside, order at the counter and it doesn't take long for them to pull your tamales, plate them and you're ready to eat. The current selection is on the board and I chose the "Hot & Spicy Pork" and a "Bean and Rice." A good mix as the hot and spicy was indeed both hot and spicy. It was very helpful to have a regular with some carbs to cut some of that heat. I am not a tamale expert and so I can't say that these were fantastic or that they exceeded expectations. But they were tasty, a big portion and I enjoyed them. [Round number review 1300 of 2024 - 177 in Indiana - 22323 overall]

Five years going strong with our Christmas Eve *Eve* tradition of tamales and other treats from Tamale Place. We ordered enough food for ten folks- tamales (including pineapple raisin dessert tamales), cheese, tortilla chips, black beans, salsa and loaded chicken nachos. If you leave here with nothing else, make sure you order their tortilla chips and salsa (it is the best around!). Both are homemade and exceptional. Calling ahead to order was a smooth process. I miss their downtown location but it's worth the drive to Rockville Road.

We saw this on Guy Feiri's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives the night before our Indy trip so knew we had to try it. It is a small spot in a strip mall by a liquor store so I think qualifies as a dive. You order at a counter and sit down and they deliver to your table. The food....omg I would be back weekly if we lived here. They had an amazing amount of flavors of tamales, even sweet ones. They had spicy or not spicy choices which was great. We had the spicy chipotle chicken tamale with a side of queso. Divine! Also beef tamales and a steak torta. My son hadn't had a torta before and he was won over! They had meal options too that came with beans and rice I believe. The tamales were big and flavorful and the queso was so good. The steak in the torta was tender and seasoned well and overflowing!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The Tamale Place offers a great mix of local charm and fast-casual convenience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The portions are generous, and the pricing is very reasonable--my wife and I spent just $20 and left with leftovers! One of the standout items was the large nachos. Despite being smothered in queso, the chips somehow stayed crisp, making for a delicious and satisfying meal. It's the kind of place that delivers on both quality and value.

Spicy chicken tamale, spicy chicken taco, and rice

I'd like to start off by saying I've been going to the Tamale place for over 9 years now! That should say quite a bit! My personal favorites would be the spicy chicken tamales, the spicy chicken nachos, and the chocolate tamales even though they usually don't have them because they're bought up so quickly. The service is always good and the food is usually ready pretty quickly as well. There definitely needs to be more than one location throughout Indy!!!

This is my new favorite lunch near my office in Speedway. It's kind of an interesting concept; you walk in and there's a little television screen High up, and to the right to tell you what types of tamales they have that day and how many are left. I've been trying something different every time I've visited. This time I tried the spicy pork and the green chicken enchiladas. I went with coworkers and we giggled because we got a little overboard on the queso and the chips. We ordered a large queso and a large bag of chips. We really love queso on everything so we should've just got a small bag of chips and a large container of queso... We had lots of leftover chips. The chips are cooked fresh, it is hard to settle for any chip out of a bag from the grocery store after you have these. You have been warned

Been wanting to try this place for a long time but rarely in the area when it's time to eat. Today, I said to heck with it, called the wife, and said "I'm getting us tamales for dinner" Quick service and friendly service. Got a elote, sweet corn tamale, hot & spicy pork tamales, and beef with red sauce tamale. Everything was delicious. Perfectly steamed and packed full of ingredients. Why did I wait so long to try it????

There is plenty of parking when you arrive. It's a casual atmosphere. When it comes to the tamales- they make a certain amount of each and when they are out they are out. I personally LOVE the chicken nachos! Don't get a full order unless you are hungry though! Huge! Place is pretty small inside but there is some seating. I've gone with small groups and we were able to stay and eat with no isMost of their customers get it to go.

12:30p in the middle of the lunch hour and out of everything but two vegan options. Poor menu planning, poor management, or both. No thanks.

Overall a chill environment and ith a nice front patio/ sidewalk seating area. We enjoyed the chips n salsa varieties, surprisingly the darker salsa wasn't spicier just a different flavor. Orde re d the chicken burrito which was gigantic easily enough for 2 to share. Very well made fresh ingredients, covered in sauces and cheesy. And we all tried different margaritas, mine was a strawberry fruity take on a margarita, good and garnished nicely. Rated fresh and flavorful, not very strong and a bit pricey. Especially with some being $100+ for a drink was wild. Overall nice place, nice environment, wasn't busy and tasted good but is priced higher than most Mexican restaurants in the city.

We were seated in their outdoor area where the heaters were not turned on and the day had been rainy and cold so most of the table was cold throughout our meal. The service was a bit slow but it being cinco de mayo, we understood that things may move a little slower than any other day. They had some specials for the day but I got my old faithful, Maria's Enchiladas with steak. It comes with rice and beans and it's just so so soooo good!!! I also got the Arroyo Margarita which was good but def could tell they were adding a bit more sour mix to the drink. Overall, it was a good experience but I will try to come back again on a day that is not as busy.

Driving through…read morehere, you see the blight and the abandonment of this area of Indianapolis since the decline of manufacturing. Then again, it's not an uncommon story unfortunately- large parts of the city forgotten in terms of economic development but then suddenly needed during times of campaigning. Had taken Keystone and then Rural Street to get here, and the potholes are not kind. But, we had this place on our list and were determined to make it here at least once. Tlaolli stood out for its vegan offerings. Plenty of vegan taco options, birria (an absolute rarity to see vegan birria), and torta. They offer soy chorizo, jackfruit, and king oyster mushrooms as protein options. The exterior is colorful, and inside there are seating options. We had gotten our food to go, so I cannot comment too much on the service. Had placed our order online, and the food was ready within the estimated time in the order. We ordered the vegan birria tacos ($17.99), the vegan torta ($10.99 base but added soy chorizo, which was $3.99), and the no-no-no taco ($5.99). Our total with fees was approximately $45. Tlaolli offers outdoor seating, so when the weather is nicer this would be a good place to come. Next to the East Washington IPL branch, Tlaolli has a colorful green exterior with neon signage. Food: The food was very good. The proteins were nicely seasoned and juicy. The highlight for me was the birria tacos and the consome. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. 10/10. This is a great local business in the area to support: offers a diverse menu of options with food that is comforting and tasty.
