Just what Libertyville needed. What a stunning and delicious restaurant! We came in with a party of 8 people (6 adults, 2 kids) for a birthday celebration. Our reservations were at 5:30, which was just before the big rush. It was so helpful to have made a list of what we wanted beforehand, it really helped narrow down our order. The kitchen was so kind to help us find something GF that the kids could eat and made them meatballs and potatoes. We put our food orders in in stages so that we didn't get too much at once. We ordered 12 things from the menu and a number of charcuterie options for the rest of us. They offer a "double portion" of the tapas for larger parties, which is cheaper than ordering two plates. We did that for about 5 of the tapas. We went home with some leftovers but not an exorbitant amount. And everyone left with very happy, full bellies. The best bites were the Alitas, Bresaola, Arroz con Pollo, and the empanadas. Having so much food, it would have been helpful to have staff clearing plates more frequently. We often were flagging someone down to take a stack of empty plates. Overall, a great experience. Would definitely visit again. read more

Our first visit was a perfect evening. That was months ago. We came back with some friends to enjoy dinner. Some differences: First, they are only open on Friday and Saturday. That may have something to do with the quality of the dishes. The Brussels sprouts were burnt (way over done and doused with balsamic). The empanadas that we raved about to our friends were also overdone, and actually hard. The squash salad was greens and olives and cucumbers. I ordered an Orange Old Fashioned that tasted as if no bourbon was in it (totally sweet and syrupy) and the glass was sticky. If we weren't were friends we would have raised these issues, but we didn't want to create an awkward evening. UPDATE: In response to the establishment's reply to my review, I've included a picture of the charge to my card for my portion of the meal, and a picture of the water glasses we were given while dining there. They were comically small, but I didn't want to include that in the original review as it seemed petty. The cost of the shrimp may have been lower, so that's my error, but it certainly wasn't worth what we paid. Additionally, the pictures I saw were on yelp and Google, not the menu. The fact that the restaurant accuses reviews of being fake indicates they don't take feedback seriously, nor wish to consider they have anything to work on. While we were there we saw the bartender have to remake someone's drink, as well, because an patron wasn't happy or. I've never had an establishment accuse a review of mine of being fake. This is wild. Service was great and the atmosphere is lovely. Very chill vibe. Unfortunately, the food wasn't great and for what we were paying, we should expect better than 'ok'. I was planning on getting some paella but the picture threw me off. The ingredients didn't look authentic at all. Instead, we ordered baked goat cheese, meatballs, patatas fritas, and the gambas Al ajillo. The goat cheese was the best out of the four, but the tomato sauce was very one dimensional. The meatballs were similar. Bland and just ok. The tomato sauce was again, one dimensional. The patatas bravas were undercooked and under-seasoned. The gambas was the lowest on the list. The sauce was not flavorful at all and it was pure liquid, like a soup broth. The shrimp looked boiled; pale white with no char on them and there were 5 shrimp for like $18. I was really looking forward to some tapas and this was really disappointing. I'm honestly not sure how they're getting 4+ stars from patrons. I'm stumped. read more

There is a lot of potential here. The space is open with plenty of seating and cozy booths. The patio will be perfect when warmer weather finally comes. The menu worked well for our group of four of carnivores and vegetarians. Our favorites were the meatballs and also the goat cheese in tomato sauce. The latter was so tasty that we ordered another one. This is where we shift to service. Tapas should arrive at the table at a good pace, and the last order of goat cheese had not arrived at the table by the time we were asked about dessert. At that point the dish could've been comped. Tapas should also come with some serving utensils, which we had to ask for or provide ourselves by taking utensils from empty tables. Servers need to visit the tables a little more frequently. Most of the other dishes were good to fine. The Brussels had too much glaze while the papasas bravas didn't have enough flavor. Some of the tapas were a little too stingy - the marinated olives could've come with more pickled onions. The goat cheese should be served with bread or arrive with another dish that includes bread. We will be back because there is room for improvement in a solid base. read more

We came here the night before our daughter's navy graduation since the hotel we were staying at was super close by and I am so glad we did. We had the best time! Brant was so attentive and friendly, the food was awesome, and it had an overall fun ambiance. Every single dish we tried was very tasty and the paella was absolutely worth the wait. We didn't try the alcohol but the mocktails we tried were refreshing and really hit the spot after a 4+ hour flight. We finished almost everything since it was so good, except for the paella which really is a huge dish lol. Don't know when we'll ever be back in the area, but if we are, would definitely not hesitate to go again! read more

The bread and the baked goat may be the only thing that would bring me back to this restaurant. They were amazing and perfect. Our server was also amazing and seemed to be the only one working the dining room as it seemed there were two parties happening. Since there were events happening it 100% believe they were being favored in the quickness of the food coming out. We waited quite a bit and I could see tables sat before us only had drinks as well. Even a couple that came to look at the space for a future event sat after us and still got their food before we did. It was annoying to be sure but I get pulling out the stops to unsure they book the party... just wish it wasn't at the expense of the other guests. On to the drinks and food: I ordered the cucumber martini and I didn't taste cucumber at all... tasted like a glass of midori. My husband needed to finish it for me. We ordered several dishes and it went from great to terrible in order of coming out. The baked goat cheese was the best thing we ate all night. And that bread.... So delicious. That's were unfortunately the went down hill. The chimichurri steak was almost inedible bc it was insanely spicy. Even for my spice loving husband couldn't handle it. We heard comments from the table next to us too. The potatoes we got were fine I suppose but there was zero seasoning to the potato itself and the sauce on top left much to be desired. Dinner itself was not very good and I was already ready to leave when our last dish came to the table (after a long wait bc I think they forgot we ordered it) croquettes came to the table almost completely frozen. The waitress offered to get us a new dish but it was the last straw we needed to leave. At least they took it off the bill, but we still managed to spend a good amount on a lackluster meal. Restaurant was such a pretty and stylish environment, it made me a little sad that it wasn't all that crowded. It seems like the perfect place for larger groups of people. Our server was fantastic, attentive and accommodating. The shrimp was the only really memorable dish of the three we ordered, the flatbread and salad were mediocre & not half as flavorful. I want to love this place because the location has had a series of fails. I fear this place will be no different. The service was slow and they had one person doing too much (host, bar tender, server). The food was not that exciting, bland and I tried a few dishes. We visited on a Friday for dinner . Seated pretty quickly. Waited at least 10 mins for initial wait staff visit. We did have a questions, ordered drinks. The drinks were pretty full glasses. Almost too full- sloshed over on table. We ordered pan tomat, flatbread, shrimp, sirloin, potato Bravas, tortilla espanole , meatball , ceviche . It was all good however nothing exceptional. Pan con tomato-more of bruschetta than from Spain style. Standouts were ceviche, sirloin and meatballs. The other items were just ok. Ambiance is pleasant , not jammed packed. We went to Tapastry to celebrate few of my friends's birthday. It was our first time. The food, ambiance, snd service were all great! My Libertyville friends have long endured me complaining -- with good reason -- about a lack of a tapas offering here. Well, problem solved! Tapastry has opened. While a little off the beaten Libertyville path, it's worth seeking out for the good food, the gorgeous atmosphere, and the lovely service team. While currently only in soft opening stage and not all items available, both the Spanish tapas staples and clever additions were delicious. An abundance of vegetarian and vegan options. My 2nd visit to taste more food!.. even got my same booth which feels so intimate to me. All items were available, the waiter let us know which items weren't available or sold out in the past. I loved the spiciness in the food items that said they would be a spicy (meatballs and meatloaf- I know they have a special title but I can't remember.) The gambas (shrimp) are so juicy and the sauce is tangy and fits perfect with the house made bread. Cilantro risotto melts in your mouth. The alitas (drumsticks) were a big portion perhaps because I was expecting a chicken wing drumette so that was a pleasant surprise. What a great treat! If you like authentic Mediterranean / Middle Eastern flavors, this place delivers. And I love that it's tapas - so you can try a little of everything. But there's also paella to share. Service is cheerful. And the owners, who live in Libertyville, are ever present to ensure a smooth service. Not impressed at all, we really wanted to like this place but it was very disappointing. Came here on a Friday night with no one else in the restaurant except us. For the good, the server was nice and the drinks were great. The atmosphere is nice too. But that's where the good ends. There were servers on their phones, eating out at the bar, and when we had dirty plates that sat multiple people walked by without doing anything. The food was severely underseasoned - we had the seafood paella, croquettes, and the steak with chimichurri. Nothing had salt, the seafood was overcooked in the paella, and the steak was grey and overcooked as well. The TVs weren't on at the bar either. Timing of food was off - we got both small plates at the same time and then waited 25-30 more minutes for the paella. We were sitting in the drive through line at Walgreens a couple of months ago and saw this new place going into the former Cafe Pyrenees and Beach location in Libertyville. The name caught our attention immediately, being fans of Spanish Tapas restaurants for many years. We drove by on a Tuesday and discovered that they were closed and then spent several weeks in Florida so we didn't go back until tonight. Very glad we went. They have a great menu of tapas, a good selection of wines and cocktails. Everything we had was delicious and the service, while sitting at the bar, was great. We went for big family dinner. We tried everything. It was all so good. I could have made a meal out of that charcuterie board alone, but the shrimp was divine! The chicken paella was delicious. My daughter made us order an extra meatloaf just for her. The rosé sangria was crisp and refreshing. Would be a great date night spot too. We will definitely be back! We arrived and seated and told that they were out of menus so we waited didn't see a sever for a bit! they don't carry Crown Royal and we were told they were also out of the wine we chose. Finally got a food menu and ordered. We ordered three empanadas and received one we ordered the steak chichi which was overcooked and dry. We placed our paella order first thing when we sat down due to it takes a 40 minute time. We ordered the seafood paella. It arrived unseasoned and so bland!! the bottom of the pan in an effort to make a socarrat was burnt black which left a burnt flavor throughout the whole dish. The seafood was good but very scant. The Spanish omelette was fluffy and had no potatoes - and it should have been heavy and layered with potatoes. The patatas bravas were burned and cold and the sauce was not tomato-ey at all. They are new...so I am sure it's a learning curve...but the menu lacks many of the items one would expect at a tapas restaurant (no queso de cabra, no mushrooms, no tenderloin). We tried the shrimp which had 5 tiny shrimp swimming in a garlicky broth...the taste was ok, but the presentation was very weak. The best dish was a steak with chimichurri. Potatoes felt as though they came out of an air fryer. All dishes were served within 4 minutes. Just lacking on so many fronts. The service tried but were hampered by systems failures and short- staffing. The ambiance was fine. I hope they get a lot better and survive. We just can't try again- but wish them well. read more
