This place is so interesting. We've been a couple of times while looking for some local karaoke. There's plenty to do besides sing - one pool table, some darts and games, and tons of people for great people watching. They obviously have a solid crowd of regulars. It's pretty cozy. As in... it's best to use the further back stall in the ladies room because I'm pretty sure you could see the other one from the pool table if anyone opened the bathroom door, kind of cozy. But the staff have always been nice, and the parking lot is good-sized. One night I really wanted a chocolate martini, but they don't have those, so the bartender made me a BJ as a martini with some whipped cream on top to keep it classy. read more

Giving a 4 star rating because the food was AMAZING, but please know the experience and atmosphere was no more than a 3....The TAV is a typical dive bar with pool tables, a fishing arcade game, darts, and a large selection of alcohol. The service is okay, but it seems that's a product of having one bartender and one server for the entire bar. There were some long periods of waiting to put in a drink order as our server would come and go so quick we could barely ask for anything. This seemed pretty on par with most other reviews I've seen on here. The TouchTunes jukebox was more of an annoyance. It lets people choose the songs they want which is fine when it's normal songs....but to go from "What's new pussycat" to Slipknot to ridiculously explicit rap music just kills the vibe. I wish they'd just have a normal playlist on instead of the TouchTunes. Now for the food - spectacular! My husband had the fish & chips which was a huge portion for the price! One friend had the green chile pork nachos and another had the wings. Both were massive portions and full of flavor. I had the chicken Philly which was the least flavorful, and unfortunately the chef did not remove mushrooms or add bell peppers as I requested. My friends and I are regulars at this bar. We come for karaoke nights. Last night as we were having fun just talking and watching other people sing karaoke and goof off, we were aggressively approached by the owner of the bar who I had seen storming up to other tables as well. She told us that she does not pay to have an air conditioned building for our friends who were not having anything to drink, so they needed to leave right now. We were obviously very surprised and taken aback. The friends in question were our designated drivers, however everyone at the table had been ordering food and they had also put quarters in the pool table. Everyone at our table was a patron of the bar, which we tried to explain to her. Our server even told her our tab was $130. She would not have any of it. I then asked her what her problem was to which she called me a "little wh * re" and said I needed to leave too. Needless to say, our party left and we will never be returning. I've been coming here for months and have always loved the atmosphere and the other bartenders, which makes this even more disappointing. The new bartender was incredibly rude, ignored most of the women coming up to the bar while only acknowledging the guys, and didn't seem to know how to make very basic drinks a bartender should already know. Instead of trying to figure it out professionally, she made me explain how to make my own drink. It completely changed the experience and honestly ruined what used to be one of my favorite spots. I hate to leave this review as this has been my regular bar for over 2 years. We've met amazing bartenders and servers here that we know by name, and look forward to seeing them every weekend. We came in for food and drinks this Saturday night with our usual group of people and one of our friends mentioned while ordering food that she's "drunk" and needs food to feel better. After saying that as a joke we were immediately told to leave. After over 2 years of going to the tav we've never been treated that way, as we're courteous to other people and how we act after a few drinks. The fact the staff hesitates to ask the actual drunk pervs that make women uncomfortable and make a scene to leave but does it on sight after a subtle joke to kind regulars tells us a lot. Went out for a few drinks with coworkers, after about 45 minutes into our visit I went to use the men's room. While in the stall someone reached over and took my hat off my head and ran out with it, after I finished I went to go find out who it might be only to later come back to find my hat urinated and stepped on then stuffed into the urinal. I left it there obviously it's now destroyed, I sat back at my table with my wife and coworkers about what just happened to me. While I am explaining this to them an employee (short, larger built fella with glasses) comes up to us and accuses me of doing drugs in the bathroom. Which was NOT the case AT ALL. Come to find out this bar and its employees have a history of doing this according to our uber driver that has picked up many other people from there with the SAME STORY. WILL NOT RETURN. Went in for a drink with fellow coworkers for a holiday party- We were in 1/17/26 and ordered fries as the other half of our party was toward the dining area and participating in karaoke. (We sat by the pool tables). Our server was great, burnette with short hair. She got our drinks and food out in a timely manner and was very nice. It caught us by surprise though when we were approached by another employee (clear glasses shorter guy) telling us we were using drugs in the bathroom and needed to leave immediately. When we asked "who said that?" They told us they cannot disclose who was accusing us of doing something like this, and we needed to leave without closing our tab. We obviously left, and had to order an uber since our party was still inside. Safe to say this is NOT a place to ever put your money, time, or attention in to. Not sure if they mistakenly thought it was a different person, however check your sources before accusing paying customers for doing something they DID NOT DO. Something to also mention- When we were in our uber and told the driver what had happened, he disclosed to us that it's not the first time he's picked people up from this location, also being accused of doing drugs. Actually devastated to leave this review. This has always been my bar, I've been coming consistently for almost 7 years. This Friday night, my coworkers/friends and I all met up at about 8PM for karaoke night. Two of them don't drink and had waters since they were our designated drivers, the other four of us all had several drinks and food with an open tab. The woman who says she is the owner of the bar comes up to our table. She said, "If you're not buying anything you need to leave. I do not pay to have an air conditioned building for you to not drink." We were extremely taken aback. We had only been at the bar for about an hour and a half, doing karaoke, putting down quarters for pool, and having our food and drinks. We tried to explain we, very obviously, had been buying food and drinks, and she lost her mind. She even called my friend a "little wh*re." Even the server, Dalton (shout out to him, he is always amazing) tried to explain we had our open tabs, but she proceeded to start taking our filled food plates and half-full drinks off the table saying "I don't f***ing care, you're all done." To say it was the worst service and interaction I have had at this bar, have had EVER, is an understatement. The owner is incredibly unprofessional, unnecessarily nasty, and needs to be reported for the way she treats customers. I have been to this hole in the wall, dive bar several times, but have always had a female server/waitress who was always adequate. I was running errands today and decided to get a meal and drink. I sat at the bar, and was eventually greeted by a short, pudgy scrub with glasses, who, I believed was named Edward. His service was adequate, but when I went to pay the bill with cash, his whole attitude changed. Perhaps he did not know how to deal with cash, but I left several dollars in change for an average tip, and he said, "What is this?" I replied that it was his tip. He pushed the money back at me, and I said that it was legal tender. He sneered at me and told me to keep it and walked away. Wow!!!! This incident makes me uncomfortable to think about returning in the future!!! I can't believe the rudeness! Perhaps he was angry that his basketball team lost in the playoffs. read more

Can I say zero? Went into this place with the highest hopes. Was greeted by an eccentric but over worked server who wanted nothing but to kick out groups of people. The hole is the wall is a hidden gem up in north phx. It's small-ish vibes, but has bar, tables high tops and pool table and darts. Pretty decent happy hour and I was very impressed with the food! My favorite is the wings, they have great flavors. But we always end up getting a cheese crisp, too. Their salsas and sauces in general, seem to be homeade and fresh. We like to go for a HH and play some music on jukebox, maybe some darts and stay for karaoke or trivia. Bartenders are cool, locals are friendly. On a recent visit I tried the Korean Nachos and OMG, they are damn good (only for the spice lovers!). My eyes were watering and I started sneezing. Found a new favorite appetizer! I once stupidly ordered a salad here and it wasn't great. Not a shock. They just really minced up the lettuce, so it was almost like eating cole slaw. If dining at The Tav, stick with your regular bar grub like burgers and wings. You can't go wrong! Obviously, a huge drink selection. They are proactive with pours and refills which I always appreciate! Decor is simple and cute. The "F@!k" neon sign in the bar area is a gem. We were seated in a booth. Several minutes later, a woman who identified herself as the owner approached our table in an aggressive manner and stated, "I was told you have a dog." I responded, "Yes, I have a service dog." She then asked, "Where is it?" I informed her that the dog was under the table. She replied, "Service dogs don't sit under tables." As she turned to leave, I asked, "Are you asking us to leave?" She responded, "Yes." I then clarified, "Are you asking us to leave because I have a service dog?" She again stated, "Yes," and walked away. I attempted to provide her with a business card explaining the applicable federal civil rights law regarding service animals, but she refused to face me. I then gave the card to the bartender, who stated she would place it in the office. I informed her, "It is against federal law to violate our civil rights because we have a ser vice dog." She replied, "Okay." Believing the issue resolved, I returned to the table. After waiting approximately 10 minutes without being provided menus, I approached the bartender to re quest them. At that time, the owner reappeared and stated to her staff, "Ignore them." When I asked what the problem was, she replied, "I called the police." We prepared to leave. As we exited, I asked the owner, "Did you really call the police?" and began recording video. The owner then engaged in a verbal tirade, stating, "You're assholes, and I don't want you as customers." She further attempted to involve other patrons by loudly asking, "Does anyone want them here?" We left the restaurant and waited outside. I contacted the Phoenix Police Department non-emergency line to inquire whether a call had been placed. The dispatcher confirmed a call had been made and a notice sent out, but no officer had yet been dispatched. When I asked if I should wait, I was told that was my decision. I re quested to leave a call-back number so that the responding officer could contact me upon arrival, but was in formed that was not permitted. I also inquired about a log number for either the phone call or the dispatch and was told none was available. I was advised that I could request information through the Public Records Department if an officer ultimately responded and filed a report. The Tav was a genuinely unpleasant experience. The space felt dusty and unclean, and the bartenders were doing handstands and taking shots behind the bar, more chaotic than fun. The atmosphere came off as openly bigoted and misogynistic, and it did not feel safe or welcoming. I would not recommend this place for women going alone, or for anyone who is PoC, nonbinary, or queer. The crowd felt hostile and prejudiced, with plenty of creepy behavior that made the environment uncomfortable. The parking lot was an alcohol-fueled mess. I personally saw multiple people walk away after drinking, which made the whole area feel dangerous. Honestly, law enforcement should be monitoring this place, it's a risk to anyone driving nearby. understand this is meant to be a dive bar, but the negativity, disorder, and hostility far outweigh any appeal.
