I was in need of a gift card and this was my first time stopping into Rathskeller and it surely won't be my last. I was greeted several times with very friendly waitstaff while they were preparing my gift card. The restaurant was packed and all the food coming out looked delicious. They offer a large variety of entrees and several specials that all looked great. Terrible. Cuban sandwich not anything like what a Cuban sandwich should be, or is described on the menu. Served on a club roll, not pressed. Pulled pork so dry it was like shredded jerky. Barely there, translucent ham and pickles. I asked for hot sauce to see if I could salvage the meat. I received a filthy large bottle from the kitchen, containing brown liquid that had water added to it. My friend ordered a philly cheese steak, also served on a club roll not a bagette. also below average. Ladies room smelled like a men's room. Table was sticky. Used to enjoy going here. Not anymore. Not sure what's happened but the service is lousy now. Our silverware and all six of our water glasses were dirty, some with old lipstick stains. Im always hoping at some point half stars will be added to the review system. We started out with fried calamari with gorgonzola and peppers. I wish I would have taken a picture. Rathskellar's had some big rings! I prefer my calamari just to be a little crispier. However, the sauce with the calamari was good. My husband and I both had items for our personal taste that we did not like about our food. So Ill go there next and then end on the positives. My husband got a salad before his meal the lettuce was nice and fresh with homemade croutons. However, the cesear salad dressing tasted more like Miracle Whip then Cesar dressing. I did not like my potato salad as it also had a strong Miracle Whip like taste and for my personal taste I just dont like items that taste like Miracle Whip. Finally onto our dinners my husband had risotto with cajun shrimp. Risotto was cooked nicely and not overdone. The cajun shrimp gave the meal a nice kick. My dinner was the cuban sandwich the bread was a nice baguette with a good crisp. The swiss cheese was nice and melty. This sandwich had a nice amount of ham and pulled pork. The pickles and mustard brought the extra flavor. Even though our meal was not a total hit this particular time we like Rathskellar's and will be back. read more

We visited here tonight for dinner because we had never been and always wondered what it was like. As soon as we sat down, we noticed the odd decor and thought it was very dingy. I ordered the Mac and cheese, while my parents ordered a Philly cheesesteak and a corned beef Reuben. I knew as soon as I saw the Mac and cheese that it wasn't going to be great, and it proved to be pretty flavorless. As cheesy as the texture was, the flavor of it was barely there, and all I really tasted was butter. The sandwiches were fine, but we all agreed that everything was extremely average. Three of us went on a Tuesday evening for a low key birthday meal for my brother. Inside has a nice feel to it and while pretty busy at the bar not loud in anyway. As we were there the dinning room filled in as well - again not loud. My wife had the grilled Brie sandwich and my brother has the corned beef Reuben. I had the butternut squash ravioli. We all loved our meals. Service was fast, friendly and very accommodating. We will most certainly be back there was a lot on the meal that appealed to us. read more

But upon arrival beware the pictures we see at Riverview are well photoshopped compared to when you walk in to this place. The owner must be new to the restaurant business as she does not know how to speak with customers nor how to accommodate customers and their needs. Our first experience will be our last here. The owner should stay behind the bar and let the wait staff accommodate the customers if she wants to grow her clientele. The owner prefers to engage the customer, bring the staff into it and continue to argue and not resolve the issue. How unprofessional. Sorry I came to this place. They offer a large bar surrounded by several high-tops, a friendly local crowd, Nascar and football. This was our first visit to this restaurant. This is a great place to come for some drinks and a sandwich. A limited, but well chosen draught list is available. We had the pleasure of being served by "Kate" at the bar, who appeared to effortlessly serve a full bar and all diners in the restaurant, without missing a step. I had the Cuban sandwich with potato salad. They had no problem substituting a ciabotta roll for a baguette. The sandwich was prepared nicely, served hot, and the meats were fresh and tender, and was reasonably priced. The potato salad was German style. The wife had a garden salad, which consisted of high quality greens and your typical raw veggies, and was also very reasonably priced. I had two IPA's and the wife had two Pinots, and the bill was under $50. Unusual in today's market. I would certainly recommend this restaurant. read more

First time eating here! Upon walking in my first thought, could use a good cleaning. Old and dark! Sorry I'm picky like that. Then I'm thinking what is it like in the kitchen? Food was served, corn soup was gross, corn kernels were part yellow but mostly black like old spoiled corn. I ate some of it and stopped. Nachos okay, bean were pasty and plopped on top. Wife and I came here after a failed attempt at another local eatery. We've never been but wanted to try it out since local people said it's delicious. When we walked in we were surprised. From the reviews of friends, we expected a 'finer' establishment. It's more like a saloon/pub. We were sat right away. The hostess and servers were all lovely. To start my wife ordered a cosmo. I ordered a makers mark old fashioned from the cocktail menu. My drink was super strong as if it was just makers mark on the rocks. The cosmo was sweet but tasty To start I ordered the French onion soup. It was good. Nothing different than your average FOS. I also ordered a side salad with a Parmesan peppercorn dressing. My wife ordered a Caesar salad. The side salads were a little smaller than expected. For dinner my wife ordered a strip steak. It was cooked well and she enjoyed the flavor. She liked the mashed potatoes, I thought they were a little bland. The broccoli seemed like it was frozen and heated up to order. Not much flavor to it either. I ordered the Cajun chicken over Parmesan risotto. The chicken was spiced perfectly. It was a good portion for the price. The risotto was creamy and delicious. For dessert. Yes you guessed it. This is one of the best small town restaurants I have ever entered.. The staff is extremely friendly, the treat you with respect and kindness. The bar atmosphere is very Cheers like. Everyone I have meant has been extremely nice and full of local knowledge. Tons of laughter. I have gone on random days just to be sure it wasn't my lucky day. I've been living here for a year and have not been here up until about a week ago during the holidays while a friend was in town and boy was I surprised don't let the small size and the lack of glitz and glam dissuade you from trying this place. Their food is on point and their service equally good our waitress came up to us several times checking in. I ordered that fried chicken with mashed potatoes and I felt like I was having a homemade dinner at my grandmother's house as a child. It was pretty much comfort food not in the comfort of my home which was nice because it was home-cooked food that I didn't have to make myself for a change. It had been years since I last visited "The Rat", and it was a spur of the moment decision to stop here. Since social distancing rules were in effect (and they were very good at enforcing them), I sat outside on a sunny Sunday afternoon, with a few other tables, spaced far apart. The ownership has changed since I was last there, and the menu, which was hit-or-miss then, has expanded and has a bit of everything for anyone. My masked server was happy to explain the specials, and made it a point to avoid approaching my table unless it was to drop off my drinks or food, raising his voice a bit to make himself heard from a slight distance. All good, the kitchen is adequate, $100 for 2 people, with drinks. I wanted to tip 10%, but wife said they probably pool the tips, so we went with 20. Carrot man got his due. This was my first time here and boy it what a disappointment. The appetizers were very small. Calamari was over cooked and the artichoke dip was good but you only got about 7 chips to eat with it. The lemon chicken for $19 was Bland tiny small side salad and the Cajun chicken risotto was a very small serving and was also bland and salty. I ordered A burger which was ok.but then I thought I had avacado on it but it was just avacado Mayo ? Huh??? Any way after our apps it took forever to get our dinner. Sorry . We won't be going back.
