Ended up at the tavern for lunch with friends on a Sunday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised that they offered brunch. They have several savory selections but since I avoid meat, I tried the three cheese quiche. It was decently good and includes a side of the tavern greens - which I already knew I love. Also tried their mimosa but wasn't my favorite that I've had in town. The others in my party tried, and raved!, about the sausage egg and cheese biscuit that was smothered in gravy and, the pork belly hash looked amazing as well! The Tavern on Brady makes classic dishes creatively and deliciously. It is a gem in downtown Tulsa. Transplanted Californians newly relocated to Tulsa, we scoped this place out in advance and expected great food -- and we were not disappointed. The food reminds us of one of our favorite restaurants in the Bay Area, so we will certainly be back for more. We started with the French onion soup, which is rich and deeply flavored--and enough for two as an appetizer. Since we were there on a Sunday, we tried the family-style comfort food, which that night was fried chicken with all the fixins. It included mac n' cheese, a root vegetable hash, and biscuits; we also added Brussels sprouts (we are addicts....). The portions were large, so the extra side made us positively gluttonous -- but we wanted to try as many things on the menu as possible! We completed our meal with the apple cobbler and the flourless chocolate cake; these were also quite yummy but a bit large for desserts. (Of course, we are now in middle America--"a bit large" is probably par for the course here!) When we ate here, the relief I felt at experiencing such high-quality, tasty food in Tulsa made me want to give it five stars... But the service did not match the quality. Perhaps it was just our server, or the fact that it was Sunday night, but the service seemed listless and unfriendly... Our server simply took our order -- did not advise us on specials, did not comment on or help us with our choices, and seemed generally absent. She did fill our water quite assiduously, which was quite a feat considering my rate of consumption (I am always dehydrated in the Midwest!), but she never warmed to us at all... My sense in observing the other servers was that that was the m.o. here, but again, it could have just been the night we were there. The food was so fantastic that we will certainly be back, so we will also see whether the service issue persists. The other curious thing about the Tavern is that the ambiance is classy and quiet and somewhat upscale, but the food is this creative, almost boisterous, re-imagination of comfort food and classics... I feel the atmosphere should reflect a more casual aesthetic--its dark wood walls and candlelit tables remind one of something more precious and fussy that does not align well with the food. In short, the tone is off. But again, the food is so incredibly tasty that we will be back for (much) more! read more

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday on Friday. I made a reservation through Open Table. We were seated as soon as we arrived! Our waiter was great! He gave us great suggestions on what to order and was very nice about it. We ordered the Bacon Popcorn to start with. It was delicious! Basically what it sounds like bacon and popcorn, but it was drizzled with something sweet so it had a hint of sweet flavor with the salty. Then we shared the burger and the angry Mac and cheese! Both of those were delicious!!! Best burger I've had ever! The meat had such a great flavor! And the Angry Mac and Cheese was delicious with a nice spicy kick to it! Then for his birthday they brought us a chocolate cake (looked like a piece of cheesecake but chocolate) with a raspberry sauce. We are not usually fans of chocolate desserts but this one was pretty good. Very rich. Overall we both loved our meal here and we will hopefully be back soon!! read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I have had some of the best food around from this little spot! Excellent Wine selection, so start off with a nice glass or bottle. Then do the bacon popcorn, along with other fun starters, the bacon popcorn is awesome! On my birthday I had steak and it was melt in your mouth make you fall in love with life kind of good. Perfect birthday present to my tastebuds. But by far....THE BURGER....Yes a hamburger, it the greatest thing I have had there. I know they probably have so many things I should try, but once I had the burger it has been so hard to sway away from it. One of my favorite places in town. The Tavern is consistently very good with an exceptional bunch menu, good lunch menu, and a fantastic dinner menu. I eat here weekly, I bring my family here, I host work events here - the right mix of food, drinks, and ambiance for almost any occasion. The staff always seem to find the right balance of attentiveness, friendliness, and professionalism and seem to generally enjoy what they do - hands down one of the best crews in Tulsa. Thank you. I don't drink much, but the speciality drinks are nice (if slightly overpriced) - I'm partial to the Bengali gimlet and the negroni. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Brunch highlights include pastries, swine sandwich, quiche, and Caprese (also on lunch menu if I recall). Lunch is all about the grilled cheese, mushroom burger on brioche, and Italian sandwich. For dinner the pork chop can't be beat. I'm running out of descriptive words.. all the pastries are delicious ( even though they can verge on being too sweet). It's hard to come up with negatives... occasionally will send food back (maybe 1/50 meals) for overcooked eggs or something easy to fix. read more

The Tavern is becoming one of my favorite Tulsa restaurants. We were finally able to make the brunch on Sunday and it was the best I've ever had. A friend and I couldn't decide between the french toast or the country benedict, so we split both! It was more delicious than I could have imagined, I still couldn't tell you which to choose between! The wait staff was incredibly friendly, probably some of the best in Tulsa. The dinner here is delicious as well, make sure to try the bacon popcorn! We came for a late night dinner, ordered the famous Tavern Burger (it was my first time there). I was so excited to try it since everyone always speaks so highly of it. We asked for it to be cooked medium rare, (got well done), with a side order of fries. We were a little upset that we didn't get the burger cooked as we could have liked, but it was a good meal thanks to the save of the Mac-n- cheese, the corn, and the most wonderful company. Fantastic food, great service,quick and good vibes. My fiancé and I were in town for a weekend event. We live in OC California and are spoiled with lots of really good restaurants. This place is second to none! We got seated right away and the staff was quick to bring water and take drink orders. We got a margarita which was good not stellar but I wouldn't expect this kind of restaurant to stand out there. We got the shishito peppers and deviled a eggs for appetizer. Both were delicious. The shishito was a major stand out best I've had anywhere. We split the burger and Fries and both were delicious. Food came out fast and was well prepared. My ONLY complaint is that the servers can be a little rude-- they don't like it when you ask for things. Came here for dinner Thurs . Service was a bit slow. I ordered the burger, and it was very, very bland. The bun was stale and the sauce on the burger missed. The fries were cold and again were bland. I had a bite of the mac and cheese it had a decent kick to it. The filet looked more like a pork tenderloin. The chairs are uncomfortable as well. People go here! Everything is good, start with bacon popcorn and if you go after 9 pm, you get a half price burger! The desert is also good here--honestly everything is amazing. Enjoyed great service from our waiter Brett. I thought the bacon popcorn was a great snack -- delicious and a good price. I also sampled the cheese plate, the French onion soup, and had the filet. I liked the selection of cheeses on the cheese plate and I thought the French onion soup was perfect for a cold day! The filet was a perfect medium rare and the presentation was high quality. I thought the sauce was good but unnecessary -- the steak could have stood on its own. I also stole a bite of angry mac and cheese -- loved how spicy it was! and the burger -- which definitely lived up to its billing. We brought our own dessert to celebrate a birthday and Brett was kind enough to store it for us during our meal and to provide everything we needed to serve it. Wonderful experience all around. I'll admit my husband and I were disappointed when we saw the extremely limited menu (there were 4 entree options).. On their Yelp menu, it said that they served a steak plate and my husband was planning on that. He instead ordered the double pork chop with apple/pistachio chutney and mashed potatoes - he really loved it and it was cooked perfectly (btw the chop is as big as your face). I got the wild mushroom risotto with crispy brussel sprouts - it was excellent. Great texture and flavor and a good size portion! We ended the meal with the bread pudding (only dessert available) with Apple Jack sauce; we couldn't eat it fast enough.. It was DELICIOUS. I was bummed that they didn't have ANY vodka based cocktails.. They were mainly gin, brandy, and bourbon based drinks - ok, ok, I get it, this is a "man's place". We came to Tavern from a recommendation from a friend, and it's perfect for a casual but delicious dinner. My husband had the Tavern Burger and I had the fish and chips from the small plates menu, plus a side of the angry mac to share after reading such good reviews about it. Even though it was from the "small plates" menu, the fish and chips were a perfect portion for me for dinner. The angry mac was my favorite of the night though. It was spicy and full of flavor and I would highly recommend it. I could have ordered just that for my meal and been totally happy! While I am sure their staff are instructed to behave towards customers with condescension, their lunch is divine, their drinks are oasis, and their dinner is nirvana! I know most people are turned off by the price, but I can without reservation say that is worth every single penny. Like most people, I find myself ordering the Tavern Burger. When you're new and first order the burger (which you will), you feel like you are the penny pincher of the group--trying to find the cheapest thing on the menu. As you become a patron of the place, you begin to realize that the burger is not only the best possible option on the menu, but a staple of the community. Have no shame, proceed zealously!
