We really enjoyed our brunch/lunch at Tavern! We have been loving the deals on the McNellie's Passport app and decided to try Tavern for lunch, and I'm glad we did. I got the fish and chips, and my husband got the special - French dip bagel with breakfast potatoes (both available on the brunch menu). My fish and chips were delicious! While I still think the other McNellie's restaurant Bishop Quigley makes the best Fish and Chips in Tulsa, these were really good! My husband enjoyed his bagel and breakfast potatoes. We have been here before, and I remember their Brussel sprouts were some of the best I've ever had (I'll be back for those next time). Our server was very sweet and attentive, which always helps the experience. The restaurant started to get busy towards the end of our meal, but she stayed consistent and cared for us well throughout the entire meal. While it did get busy, it did not feel crowded, and the layout/design of this restaurant is a really great pub feel while being clean and organized. Went to Tulsa for the weekend to visit my friend that I have not seen in a long time due to the pandemic. She picked me up earlier that morning and we made our way through town and ended up at a thrift store where we purchased a few items. After I dropped my bags at my her place we started talking food since we were getting hungry. Going through the restaurants in the area there were a couple of different spots we selected but it was The Taverns Instagram account that swayed us. They had a picture of their Angry Mac & Cheese that made us want to try it out. The Tavern wasn't too far away from my friends apartment and after a brief walk we made it. The restaurant itself is sleek and clean, the money that goes into its upkeep is apparent. Fresh coat of paint, good decor, quality tables and chairs all created an atmosphere of a good dining experience. However, unfortunately that was as far it went. The hostess greeting us was slouching and not paying attention when we first walked in. The place was busy so it surprised me that she was doing this in front of other customers. We took seats at the bar since we did not want to wait for a table. My friend told me that it seems like she does not want to be working and I agreed. The bartender greeted us and asked if we wanted anything to drink. My friend choose the NERF Raspberry Pride which she enjoyed and I got a water. When it came time to order we told him that what sold us to come to the restaurant was a picture of their Angry Mac & Cheese on their Instagram account but it seemed like he wasn't too interested to talk to us. The bar seemed busy though so we sort of let him be since he was working. The Angry Mac & Cheese came out in a reasonable amount of time and it looked just like the pictures, we were truly excited. This excitement did not last long, the dish became the biggest disappointment on my trip. It was very evident that the macaroni was undercooked, they were hard and crunchy. The dish itself was not as creamy as I expected it to be based off the pictures. The texture was just off for us, it did not complement each other well. What made it unbearable was the jalapeño in the dish that just overwhelmed all the other flavors. We ended up taken a few bites and stopped eating all together. Throughout this time the bartender never checked on us once even though he was close by. Feeling like we made a mistake selecting this restaurant we decided to leave. We called on the bartender as he was just drying some cups and he did not respond. I know he heard us as well. Feeling frustrated we ended up trying to hail another bartender and he too also seemed to not hear us. Eventually I said "excuse me" loud enough where other customers noticed and one of the bartender, not ours that served us, came our way. We asked for the check and he tapped the bartender that served us and told him to close us out. That bartender then printed out our total and instead of handing us the tab he literally dropped it at our table and walked away without saying a word. I looked at my friend and told her that it seemed like no one wants to work here. We paid and left. The reason I gave this place 2 stars is for the following: The experience we had with the hostess but mainly our interactions with the bartender gave us the feeling that we were not welcomed. I asked my friend maybe I unintentionally said or did something to him and she said that I was cordial the whole time. Which brings me to my last point, the restaurant seemed like everybody had an attitude and did not want to be there. I do want to add one last thought I had as a sort of footnote. I am ethnically Palestinian and I am not familiar with Tulsa in terms of its racial misconceptions, it was my first time visiting. My experience was so off that it made me think that maybe it had to do with the fact that I'm an Arab. I tend not to believe that this was the case because the rest of the night I had a great time meeting people around town. For some reason though it feels like I can not shake the idea off fully. Overall I would not recommend this establishment. read more

The 4 stars are for the food! Been here several times and it's consistent delicious! Tonight we split an order of fish and chips and the fish is so crisp, perfectly cooked and the chips are those skinny fries that are just what you want and generous portion. The tarter sauce is so good, obviously homemade. The service is good but not great. we ate in the bar and it's those little things that separate good from great. A welcoming smile would be a start but I think our bartender was just too cool for that (until he took our CC).. My husband asked about one of the beers on tap. A great waiter would offer a sample...Etc etc BUT, I'd recommend this place for amazing food and good enough service read more

Wow....yes...just, wow! My wife and I took a quick get away weekend and stayed downtown in Tulsa's arts district. Tavern was only a block away, we were hungry, and didn't want to get back in the car. My expectation was we'd have a decent pub-style meal but the really short walk would be the high point. Tavern far exceeded my expectations. The Shoshito peppers with creamed feta and balsamic vinegar glaze were amazing! Weird but true...my mouth is watering right now remembering.... :). read more

Located downtown so no parking lot but they have complimentary valet. Very nice on the inside and spacious. And everything tried here was delicious! Start with two apps, the tot poutine dish and the olive spread with focaccia bread. Omg both were delicious. The poutine gravy had great flavor. Comes with three hash brown like cakes and pulled tenderloin meat on top. The olive spread is like tempanade olives on top of whipped feta to spread on the bread and it was amazing. For my entree had the scallops and pumpkin risotto, both were cooked perfect. The risotto was sweet but had pieces of very salty lardons in it so the two worked together. One friend had fish and chips based on waiter recommendation and they were prob the best fish and chips any of us had. Very lightly breaded yet crunchy on outside and flaky and juicy on the inside. My other friend order the mushroom pasta which was very chewy but a nice lady came by and offered to switch it for her so she traded it for fish and chips. Sunday evening dinner in Tulsa. We were surprised as to how busy the Tavern actually was. We had made a reservation, so no problem being seated. Chloe was our sever and she was excellent. I had a house salad to start. Really good. Then the rigatoni dish which was quite large and spicy. My wife had the salmon. She thought it was a bit fishy and the broccolini a bit tough. You will be hard-pressed to find a restaurant worse for the price than The Tavern. I waited overnight to post the review just so it wouldn't be a knee-jerk reaction review. Our server came to our table a total of 5 times through the evening, and it took us 20 minutes to get the order in. Both our sides we ordered with our meal were about what we were expecting, but our medium strip steak for 2 (their #1 item on the menu) was well done on the outside and legitimately rare in the middle. I've been happier ordering steaks from Texas Roadhouse. I'm sure there are better items on the menu. I'd also eventually like to try it for a brunch downtown. It was a cute spot for date night and we like the location downtown. The staff was nice. read more

We went after the FC Tulsa game and I wasn't anticipating a $90 meal. But the food was good. A friend in the group and I split the strip steak which was $75-ish bucks and with one drink and a $13 appetizer it was about $78 bucks plus tip. Our waitress was a little slammed. It was also first Friday and first soccer game and a Friday night so we got seated quickly but my friends ordered another round that didn't show up. Which was fine, it was super late at that point so they didn't raise a fuss. All in all I'd definitely recommend eating there, just be prepared to shell out a bit more dough. This place was really good!! I enjoyed the deviled eggs, the siracha flavor was my favorite but they were all good!! Half off these yummy eggs during happy hour. The arugula salad was really good, the fresh mozzarella was delicious, I would add bacon next time. We added grilled chicken to our salad and it was seasoned perfectly. We shared the scallops with pumpkin risotto and it was also very good. We just moved here from California and I've been searching for the good restaurants in the Tulsa area and I discovered a treasure trove in downtown Tulsa. The Tavern is one of my favorite restaurants in Tulsa. Even though I recently moved back home, I've been frequenting this place for over ten years. The ambiance is sophisticated, but the team is always open to casual guests. Speaking of staff, we had a group meeting of close to ten and they were incredibly attentive to early arrivals and latecomers alike, making sure everyone felt welcomed with superior service. Most recently, I enjoyed the tomato soup and grilled cheese for lunch on a cold day and it did not disappoint. My favorite pastime is enjoying half priced burgers after 9 PM. The nashville hot sauce is some weird spicy sauce but is super sweet. Could not eat it the meal at all. we also got the brownie with blackberry ice cream. The brownie was not cooked and the ice cream was bland. The only thing that was edible and good was the tomato bisque and grilled cheese. Sadly, this was $100 with 3 waters a s ice tea. Beautiful restaurant and cool vibe, but unfortunately the meal was not edible due containing enough salt that should likely be consumed in a month rather than a single meal. I ordered the pork chop and after a single bite knew something was off. I took a few more bites to verify my thought that it was grossly over salted and it was very obvious. I thought maybe the collared greens below the pork chop may have been the cause for sodium overload, but after taking bites from different locations of the huge pork chop, it was obvious the cook just completely drenched the pork chop in salt and it was not edible. We had somewhere to be and the service was very slow so that was the reason I did not take the issue up with the manager. We paid for our meal and left and consider it a one and done experience. read more

Great environment at the tavern. The tan furniture paired with the deep teal walls and gold accents gave an elevated feel to the space. The drinks were delicious and the food as well. Our waiter was good with keeping waters filled and not checking in tooo much. I asked a few people how their food tasted and the overall consensus, regardless of the meal, was that it was very salty. Unfortunately, one of our orders came out wrong and we had to wait about 20 minutes for the correct meal. These mistakes happen, and I appreciate that they still made it fresh and tried their best to not make us wait too much longer. I half expected it to be comped due to the inconvenience, but that's ok! Still a good experience here! read more

Food ordered: Deviled Egg Trifecta: bacon was the best Tavern Burger: got without mushroom sauce, nothing special but was good. Shoestring fries also good. Ambiance was fine, we sat in a nice large booth. Front bar seemed to have a good comfortable feel. Service was pretty bad. We stood at the host stand probably 4 minutes waiting to be helped. Once sat, another 5 or so minutes before being greeted by our server. Unsure if the bad service was due to unexpected volume of guests due to the Route 66 marathon, but it's an annual event and you'd think staffing would be adjusted. Three stars simply based on service, would only give 4 is service would have been better. read more

Bad service. Cold food. Went for lunch, the service took over an hour for two people. I do not think a single thing was made fresh or prepared that day. Everything was cold. After my flight from Seattle to Dallas of no sleep, then a four hour drive from Dallas to Tulsa, we finally took an Uber to dine. We noticed this dining establishment was rated number 1 on yelp, so my roommate and I wanted to try this place. First of all our server Steven was very knowledgeable, and informative with everything on the menu. I ordered the trout with bok choy, my roomie the cauliflower bolognese, and we shared the angry Mac & cheese. Everything was delicious. One thing I was disappointed with, was we found out later that they had a chefs table, and he could make anything we wanted, and the speakeasy bowling alley!!! This was a very cute old school vibe restaurant that we went to for dinner. We made reservations but to be honest we didn't need to for the night we came... it was almost empty! We were seated and serviced very quickly. We started off with drinks. I got the summer babe with gin and my husband got the Bengali gimlet. Both very interesting drinks. Next time I'd probably opt for Titos instead of the gin in my drink! The Bengali gimlet was lovely. Had a taste of tamarind in it that my husband liked a lot. For apps we got the shrimp dip. It was great! Soft small shrimp in a creamy cheese sauce, very flavorful! For our main course I had the smothered pork chops. I loved it! The meat was very tender and flavorful. The green beans could have used a little more salt but I loved the thinness, and the mashed potatoes were great. My husband got the tavern burger.... we both have to agree that the cheese made it difficult to eat. It tastes like blue cheese, and we don't like blue cheese... it had that putrid like flavor and aroma. But if that's your thing, then go for it! The burger meat itself was cooked very well! For dessert we had the banana and toffee and it was INCREDIBLE!!! Such a great warm banana bread cake with ice cream and the perfect amount of crunch! MUST TRY! read more

A direct reflection of the quality of the restaurant's management. Excellent Lunch on cold winter day in Tulsa. Very comfortable, relaxing restaurant with excellent food and service. In an old building, with a classy decor inside that makes for a great dining atmosphere. We were there right after the lunch crowd had cleared. Food and service were excellent. The turkey sandwich and the fish and chips were delicious. The turkey sandwich was enormous. The shoestring fries (their signature side) were perfect. When I walked out I was full, happy and relaxed. I was really surprised; I didn't expect such great food and service from a place called "The Tavern." As good as it was I won't be back until they clean up their health score.
