We've dined at The Terrace every trip since their opening. Sadly our dinner tonight was such a disappointment. Our waiter was rushed all evening and never had time for us so the service was nothing to remember. My husband had the tuna entree which was excellent. I had the lobster with mushroom risotto. The lobster was excellent but the risotto was luke warm at best. Unfortunately, not a single person asked how we enjoyed our food because I would have been honest. The Terrace seems to be slipping and not the same quality food and service we have enjoyed for so many years. read more

it's very sad sad for me, And eventually, probably sad for them, the owners i've been coming to this restaurant probably since they opened, certainly I've been coming there for over 15 years The food is still as good, the waiters and waitresses are still as helpful & charming, but it is the attitude from the management has changed. Dollars yet no appreciation to loyalty. First of all, unlike all of the other expensive restaurants in St. John, The Teressa doesn't use Resy or OpenTable. When you call, the machine tell you to NOT leave a message for a reservation. The record tell you, you can email or call.(assuming you can get in touch with them) but when you do make a reservation with an email, it's not quick to get a reply over the email. Apparently they only reply ONCE a day. They don't allow American Express, and if I remember correctly, even if you use a Visa or a Mastercard, I believe they charge you for using a credit card! I could be mistaken about that, but my memory is they do charge now for paying with a credit card The restaurant is my opinion is now gotten very pennywise pound foolish. What I mean by that is when I order escargot, let's face it people who eat escargot, love it for the butter and garlic. At this restaurant they give you ONE roll with the escargot, if you want another if I remember last year, it was a DOLLAR, maybe more. Keep in mind there's nothing cheap about eating at this restaurant. but the worst problem is, they just don't seem to CARE. They believe they know business much better than every other restaurants in St. John. Restaurants like Extra-virgin, Zozo's, Morgan's Mango, and La Tapa, because all of those restaurants put the customers ahead of the dollars. I won't say that I was treated RUDELY , but be certain if you check the most recent YELP reviews in the last two years you will notice that many of the people that were unhappy, felt that they were VERY rude. all that I will say is over a decade of being a loyal customer they make me feel like I'm nothing special to them I'm coming back to St. John for the next six weeks, and yes, I will be going to the terrace, but a lot of the charm from dealing with the management makes me less excited for going there. Sad, because this has up to recently, one of my favorite restaurants. The owner, the woman in my case, is killing her gem. Almost all restaurants I go to tell us they consider my wife and I, a very low maintenance easy going customer. Many have told me they wish all their customers were as easy as my wife and I. I hope things will change, but after patiently tried to explain my problems with getting a reservation I have a feeling their ego is much bigger then my relatively small needs. A FOLLOW UP when I made the most recent reservation, I explained to this woman, likely an owner, how difficult it's been for me to make a reservation. I also told her that I only have problems making reservation at The Terrace now, and that I go to all of the best restaurants every year. I thought I was giving her useful information, as if it's hard for me, chances are it's also hard for others. If you check recent reviews, you will see I must be right about a lot of what I felt. I wasn't yelling. I would never yell at any restaurant let alone a restaurant I'm planning on going to eat at, a restaurant I used to adore. I was just explaining why it's difficult for myself, and very, possibly many other people. I then said Ok, I guess I'll keep the reservation I had, even though it was not what I was trying to accomplish. I said OK. Have a nice day. That's It! 10 minutes later I got an email saying she'll PASS ON MY RESERVATION ALTOGETHER! I immediately called and ask, was my reservation canceled?! The girl said YES you were yelling at me, she said. I said I wasn't yelling, I would never yell at a restaurant, in fact as a kidI used to work at top level places. you learn as a kid, especially in this business you need to be charming. I said I never yelled, I was just trying to EXPLAIN how I'm having problems with ONLY your restaurant. I said am I not allowed to tell you what I consider a problem? Am I only allowed to give you compliments? I said what do you think I said that was yelling, I asked? To that she said, i'm too busy, and hung up! Not a large menu so choices are very limited. Ambiance / beautiful view, but our chairs were very rickety and I wasn't sure if it was going to collapse while sitting in it. Also, they put pillows on some of the chairs and it's because they were so old they no longer had a cushion. The toilet seat however had a better cushion than the dining seats! Ha! Ordered mocktails that weren't anything great. Tasted like sparkling lime juice. Had to ask for cherry grenadine to add to it, but that didn't make a difference. We ordered mussels, cobb salad, truffle fries and scallops. My friend enjoyed the mussels! She said the scallops lacked flavor. Was missing something. Truffle fries were ok. Hard to taste the truffle. The cobb salad was not your typical cobb salad. Was basically mixed greens. I asked for a different dressing that was listed on the menu and they didn't have it so the dressing provided wasn't good / lacked flavor. Wouldn't go back. Based on the prices vs. the quality of food, suggest dining elsewhere. read more

Very rude staff! Do not bring your own bottle of wine as they do not allow it! Instead of charging a corking fee and us dropping $400 or more there on dinner they asked us to leave!!!!! We were disappointed with several restaurants on St John that used to be among our favorites, but The Terrace was excellent. We liked our first meal there so much we made a special effort to go back a second time, even though it was completely booked for the times we prefer. While on the island we wanted to go somewhere nice to celebrate a birthday and The Terrace was highly recommended and did not disappoint. I was able to make reservations and we were seated on the outside patio overlooking the water. The restaurant is quaint with several tables around the perimeter and a few inside. Servers were following all Covid restrictions and were so attentive to our party of six. After looking over the menu we started with a variety of salads and small plates. The soup of the day was a green gazpacho topped with crab meat, which was amazing! I enjoyed The Greens salad, served with local greens, celery, asparagus and crispy shallots. Others enjoyed the scallops, fritto (fried) mushrooms and Cobb salad. All the perfect start to the meal. For entrees we enjoyed the Caribbean Lobster, Crab stuffed Shrimp, Macaroni and Cheese with Pork Belly and the Grouper special. The Lobster was some of the best I've ever had with garlic mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts, fried to perfection. Desserts topped off the night! Amazing ambiance and great service but such mediocre food. I've given it a few tries now and I'm just over it until further notice. The shellfish app is basically lemon bath water with unseasoned shellfish in it. Zero flavor or seasoning. The tuna dish is also incredibly boring and bland. It's a piece of (again terribly seasoned) tuna over a bed of gnocchi (if you can even call them gnocchi) and then lame boring zucchini which was also not even seasoned. The gnocchi were basically crispy tater tots. Not gnocchi. The chef seems to have an ego about her too. Id maybe make food taste at least flavorful before we get upset about guests asking for modifications to specials lol read more

My food was good, my son's was cold. Was seated at a high top at the bar and the chairs are not the right height for the tables. They had old cushions on the chairs to help make everyone higher in their chair but they need to be replaced because they are not much help. My son is 5"10 and said with the cushion he still was too low for the table. My advice is don't sit at a high top in the bar. I had requested a table in the dining area and was told I could have 1 and responded back an hour after the e-mail and was told it was no longer available the next afternoon! Don't send me an e-mail after hours and then tell me I didn't respond till the next day. The e-mails should be checked in the morning before they give tables to other people. We had a lovely bar side meal here. I kept it loose this trip and didn't make reservations since our group has differing opinions on restaurants... everyone wanted to go to The Terrace though! And who can blame them with that view? The bar opens 1 hour before the restaurant and features a happy hour. Views are more restricted but it's still fabulous. Shrimp cocktail was a little disappointing. Mussels more than made up for it. I love mussels! Everything else, including the bartender, was on point. Stunning views. Hubs devoured his chocolate cake. We had another fantastic meal at The Terrace. We had a lovely table where we watched the sunset. Our server was really knowledgeable and helpful. I had the cold soup to start (avocado, cucumber and fennel base with a spicy red pepper coulis) which was delicious. The bread rolls with a shallot butter were also delicious. For our entrees, my husband had the Cobb salad with grilled shrimp and I had the greens salad with 6 ounces of butter poached lobster tail. Wow, the butter poached lobster was absolutely incredible! With 2 glasses of wine to cap off our meal, we really enjoyed it. As mentioned in my previous review, there is a service charge for using a credit card. We will definitely be back again. read more

This is one of favorite restaurants on STJ. The food is reliably fresh and the the views from the outside terrace immediately set the mood for your dinner. We started with steamed shellfish appetizer which was great. We tried the filet tips special as well. Also a winner. Wife and kids had the half chicken which they all loved. I went with Mahi which was the best on the island that week. My only gripe was the lemon aioli. The chef put way too much on...to the point of overkill. It almost ruined the dish completely. I blame myself for not asking for it on the side when ordering, but they can definitely dial it back. We'll be back next year regardless. read more

Just dined there for my husband's birthday. Bill $350. At the end of the meal after I paid a gentleman in T shirt and jeans with a cup came over. My husband was on the phone with his son who just called to wish him happy birthday. I thought the gentleman was a person asking for $. The mixed reviews here aren't surprising! The food was mediocre but pricey. And when you compare it to other fine dining restaurants in St. John (Lime Inn, Morgan's Mango, etc.), you'd find better value elsewhere. They also close earlier (at 9 vs 10) than other places on St. John! Here's what we had, starting with the best: [Appetizer] Seared Sea Scallops ($16) - By far the best dish we had here. The sear was excellent and the scallops were so delicious! So unfortunate that our entrees didn't match up with this appetizer. [Main] Seared Yellow Fin Tuna ($35) - It's supposed to be a lightly seared tuna on a bed of gnocchi and vegetable medley. If you're expecting more pasta than vegetable, you'll be disappointed! [Main] Classic Mac & Cheese with Half Lobster Tail ($52) - Very overpriced. The mac & chesse itself was good, and when priced at $22, it sounds reasonable. But $30 for the added half lobster tail was too much. The lobster was bland and the butter-poach flavor didn't come through. Wouldn't recommend this dish. [Drink] Ramble on Rose ($12) - Not exciting. When you're surrounded by great bars with affordable prices, you'd be better off getting drinks elsewhere. [Drink] Tea for One ($12) - Doesn't come off very "specialty cocktail" when it's just a spiked sweet tea. read more

Sunset, gentle summer breeze, and great food. What a way to end a day. The Terrace provided all of this and more. Service as good, the location perfect, and the food amazing. Menu is balanced with a nice selection of surf or turf options, vegetarian choices, and of course amazing deserts. The wine selection is fairly broad both in choices and price points. We started with the beet salad and soup of the day; a very nice cucumber soup. The bread and New Zealand butter was delicous. For our mains my wife had the Mac and Cheese and I had the Filet Mignon. The Mac and Cheese is excellent and a good size portion, easily could be shared by 2. The kitchen knows how to prepare steak and this filet was a perfect medium rare with a lovely crust. As you can tell by the pictures - I did not go home hungry. Highly recommend this place for either a date night or with a group of friends; but make reservations. read more

The food was ok. Too many better places to choose from on the island though. Based on the food alone I'd rather we'd gone back to some of our favs than go here. I had reservations for 1/1/22 a full 30 days in advance. We were seated at the worst table inside with no view under a full blast nonstop a/c unit blowing directly down on us and our food the entire time that ruined the meal for all 8 of us. We asked the manager to do something about it. He pushed a few buttons on a remote and said see I'm changing it (like he was familiar with this issue) but there was no improvement. Even the most burly young gym-rat guys in the group were miserable. In fact the burliest was even sick from it later that night. The wait staff acted like we were an imposition. I think they actually just felt guilty/bad for us that we were stuck in that spot so they didn't want to make eye contact and wanted to get rid of us as soon as possible. This is the worst restaurant we tried on St John in past 6 days. Server was so rude. She just insulted us. Food absolutely not worth against the prices they are charging. It is just ridiculous. This is a fine dining restaurant and they charged us for extra piece of bread.. this was too much.. Now I am well aware the overall prices across the island. I am comparing this restaurant with Ocean 362 which was way way better in terms of food quality and service offered. (Ocean 362 gave us complementary wine for delay in entrees that too we without asking them to do so). I would never come back here neither recommend to anyone. read more

All that can be said is management is rude, staff follows the managements lead. The owner Robin is a little tyrant. Pushing back with any complaint from any table. And there were more than a few.
